LetG be a connected complex semisimple Lie group. Let Γ be a cocompact lattice inG. In this paper, we show that whenG isSL 2(C), nontrivial deformations of the canonical complex structure onX exist if and only if the first Betti number of the lattice Γ is non-zero. It may be remarked that for a wide class of arithmetic groups Γ, one can find a subgroup Γ′ of finite index in Γ, such that Γ′/[Γ′,Γ′] is finite (it is a conjecture of Thurston that this is true for all cocompact lattices inSL(2, C)). We also show thatG acts trivially on the coherent cohomology groupsH i(Γ/G, O) for anyi≥0.  相似文献

A finitely presented group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0=(1) 2(G, ℝ), where H (1) * (resp. (1) *) denotes the ℓ1-homology (resp. reduced ℓ1-homology). If Γ is a graph, then every ℓ1 1-cycle in Γ with real coefficients can be approximated by 1-cycles of compact support. A 1-relator group G is hyperbolic iff H (1) 1(G,ℝ)=0. LetG andHG be two real semisimple groups defined overQ. Assume thatH is the group of points fixed by an involution ofG. LetπL 2(H\G) be an irreducible representation ofG and letf επ be aK-finite function. Let Γ be an arithmetic subgroup ofG. The Poincaré seriesP f(g)=ΣH∩ΓΓ f(γ{}itg) is an automorphic form on Γ\G. We show thatP f is cuspidal in some cases, whenH ∩Γ\H is compact. Partially supported by NSF Grant # DMS 9103608.  相似文献

Let (G, I, N, S) be an affine topological Tits system, and let Γ be a torsion-free cocompact lattice in G. This article studies the coinvariants H 0(Γ; C(Ω,Z)), where Ω is the Furstenberg boundary of G. It is shown that the class [1] of the identity function in H 0(Γ; C(Ω, Z)) has finite order, with explicit bounds for the order. A similar statement applies to the K 0 group of the boundary crossed product C *-algebra C(Ω)Γ. If the Tits system has type ? 2, exact computations are given, both for the crossed product algebra and for the reduced group C *-algebra.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. The prime graph Γ(G) of G is defined as follows. The vertices of Γ(G) are the primes dividing the order of G and two distinct vertices p and p′ are joined by an edge if there is an element in G of order pp′. We denote by k(Γ(G)) the number of isomorphism classes of finite groups H satisfying Γ(G) = Γ(H). Given a natural number r, a finite group G is called r-recognizable by prime graph if k(Γ(G)) =  r. In Shen et al. (Sib. Math. J. 51(2):244–254, 2010), it is proved that if p is an odd prime, then B p (3) is recognizable by element orders. In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(B p (3)), where p > 3 is an odd prime, then G @ Bp(3){G\cong B_p(3)} or C p (3). Also if Γ(G) = Γ(B 3(3)), then G @ B3(3), C3(3), D4(3){G\cong B_3(3), C_3(3), D_4(3)}, or G/O2(G) @ Aut(2B2(8)){G/O_2(G)\cong {\rm Aut}(^2B_2(8))}. As a corollary, the main result of the above paper is obtained.  相似文献

J. Lindenstrauss proves in [L] thatc 0(Γ) is not quasicomplemented inl (Γ) while H. P. Rosenthal in [R] proves that subspaces, whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact and weak* separable, are quasicomplemented inl (Γ). In this note it is proved that weak* separability of the dual is the precise condition determining whether a subspace, without isomorphic copies ofl 1 and whose dual balls are weak* sequentially compact, is quasicomplemented or not inl (Γ). Especially spaces isomorphic tol p(Γ), for 1<p<∞, have no quasicomplements inl (Γ) if Γ is uncountable.  相似文献

Let E Aff(Γ,G, m) be the set of affine equivalence classes of m-dimensional complete flat manifolds with a fixed fundamental group Γ and a fixed holonomy group G. Let n be the dimension of a closed flat manifold whose fundamental group is isomorphic to Γ. We describe E Aff(Γ,G, m) in terms of equivalence classes of pairs (ε, ρ), consisting of epimorphisms of Γ onto G and representations of G in ℝ m-n . As an application we give some estimates of card E Aff(Γ,G, m).  相似文献

LetG be a unimodular Lie group, Γ a co-compact discrete subgroup ofG and ‘a’ a semisimple element ofG. LetT a be the mapgΓ →ag Γ:G/Γ →G/Γ. The following statements are pairwise equivalent: (1) (T a, G/Γ,θ) is weak-mixing. (2) (T a, G/Γ) is topologically weak-mixing. (3) (G u, G/Γ) is uniquely ergodic. (4) (G u, G/Γ,θ) is ergodic. (5) (G u, G/Γ) is point transitive. (6) (G u, G/Γ) is minimal. If in additionG is semisimple with finite center and no compact factors, then the statement “(T a, G/Γ,θ) is ergodic” may be added to the above list. Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

Let R be a ring, which is either a ring of integers or a field of zero characteristic. For every finite graph Γ, we construct an R-arithmetic linear group H(Γ). The group H(Γ) is realized as the factor automorphism group of a partially commutative class two nilpotent R-group G Γ. Also we describe the structure of the entire automorphism group of a partially commutative nilpotent R-group of class two.  相似文献

The prime graph of a finite group G is denoted by Γ(G). In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| = |F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G @ F4(q){G \cong F_4(q)}. As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of Shi and Bi for F 4(q) where q = 2 n  > 2.  相似文献

As the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(2 F 4(q)), where q = 22m+1 for some m ≧ 1, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to 2 F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| =|2 F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(2 F 4(q)), then G2 F 4(q). As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of W. Shi and J. Bi for 2 F 4(q). The third author was supported in part by a grant from IPM (No. 87200022).  相似文献

Let Γ be a tropical curve (or metric graph), and fix a base point pΓ. We define the Jacobian group J(G) of a finite weighted graph G, and show that the Jacobian J(Γ) is canonically isomorphic to the direct limit of J(G) over all weighted graph models G for Γ. This result is useful for reducing certain questions about the Abel–Jacobi map Φ p :ΓJ(Γ), defined by Mikhalkin and Zharkov, to purely combinatorial questions about weighted graphs. We prove that J(G) is finite if and only if the edges in each 2-connected component of G are commensurable over ℚ. As an application of our direct limit theorem, we derive some local comparison formulas between ρ and \varPhip*(r){\varPhi}_{p}^{*}(\rho) for three different natural “metrics” ρ on J(Γ). One of these formulas implies that Φ p is a tropical isometry when Γ is 2-edge-connected. Another shows that the canonical measure μ Zh  on a metric graph Γ, defined by S. Zhang, measures lengths on Φ p (Γ) with respect to the “sup-norm” on J(Γ).  相似文献

Let X be one of the Banach spaces c 0 , ℓ p , 1≤p<∞; Ω⊂X pseudoconvex open, a holomorphic Banach vector bundle with a Banach Lie group G * for structure group. We show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G * (which we also prove for G * a solvable Lie group) implies the vanishing of the sheaf cohomology groups H q (Ω, 𝒪 E ), q≥1, with coefficients in the sheaf of germs of holomorphic sections of E. Further, letting 𝒪Γ (𝒞Γ) be the sheaf of germs of holomorphic (continuous) sections of a Banach Lie group bundle Γ→Ω with Banach Lie groups G, G * for fiber group and structure group, we show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G, G * (which we prove again for G, G * solvable Lie groups) implies the injectivity (and for X=ℓ1 also the surjectivity) of the Grauert–Oka map H 1 (Ω, 𝒪Γ)→H 1 (Ω, 𝒞Γ) of multiplicative cohomology sets. We prove a “unique crossed product decomposition” result for group measure space II1 factors L (X)⋊Γ arising from arbitrary free ergodic probability measure preserving (p.m.p.) actions of groups Γ in a fairly large family G\mathcal{G}, which contains all free products of a Kazhdan group and a non-trivial group, as well as certain amalgamated free products over an amenable subgroup. We deduce that if T n denotes the group of upper triangular matrices in PSL (n,ℤ), then any free, mixing p.m.p. action of G = \operatornamePSL(n,\mathbbZ)*Tn\operatornamePSL(n,\mathbbZ)\Gamma=\operatorname{PSL}(n,\mathbb{Z})*_{T_{n}}\operatorname{PSL}(n,\mathbb{Z}) is W-superrigid, i.e. any isomorphism between L (X)⋊Γ and an arbitrary group measure space factor L (Y)⋊Λ, comes from a conjugacy of the actions. We also prove that for many groups Γ in the family G\mathcal{G}, the Bernoulli actions of Γ are W-superrigid.  相似文献

If P is a pleated plane in 3-dimensional hyperbolic space H 3 and α a geodesic in its intrinsic metric we define B(P,α), the average bending of P in the direction α. We show that if P is a convex pleated plane embedded in H 3 then B(P,α)≤K for some universal K. Furthermore if PΓ is a boundary component of the convex hull of a quasi-Fuchsian group Γ then B(PΓ,α)=B(Γ) almost everywhere, where B(Γ) is a constant times the length of the bending lamination βΓ of the pleated surface X Γ=PΓ/Γ. We use these to prove a number of results about quasi-Fuchsian groups including a universal bound on the Lipschitz constant for the map to infinity and a bound on the length of βΓ by a constant times the Euler characteristic of X Γ. We prove that the natural map Hb 2(Γ)?H2(Γ) from bounded to usual cohomology is injective if Γ is an irreducible cocompact lattice in a higher rank Lie group. This result holds also for nontrivial unitary coefficients, and implies finiteness results for Γ: the stable commutator length vanishes and any C1–action on the circle is almost trivial. We introduce the continuous bounded cohomology of a locally compact group and prove our statements by relating Hb (Γ) to the continuous bounded cohomology of the ambient group with coefficients in some induction module. Suppose Γ is a group acting on a set X, written as (Γ,X). An r-labeling f: X→{1,2, ..., r} of X is called distinguishing for (Γ,X) if for all σ∈Γ,σ≠1, there exists an element xX such that f(x)≠f(x σ ). The distinguishing number d(Γ,X) of (Γ,X) is the minimum r for which there is a distinguishing r-labeling for (Γ,X). If Γ is the automorphism group of a graph G, then d(Γ,V (G)) is denoted by d(G), and is called the distinguishing number of the graph G. The distinguishing set of Γ-actions is defined to be D*(Γ)={d(Γ,X): Γ acts on X}, and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs is defined to be D(Γ)={d(G): Aut(G)≅Γ}. This paper determines the distinguishing set of Γ-actions and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs for almost simple groups Γ.  相似文献

We show that ifG is a semisimple algebraic group defined overQ and Γ is an arithmetic lattice inG:=G R with respect to theQ-structure, then there exists a compact subsetC ofG/Γ such that, for any unipotent one-parameter subgroup {u t} ofG and anyg∈G, the time spent inC by the {u t}-trajectory ofgΓ, during the time interval [0,T], is asymptotic toT, unless {g −1utg} is contained in aQ-parabolic subgroup ofG. Some quantitative versions of this are also proved. The results strengthen similar assertions forSL(n,Z),n≥2, proved earlier in [5] and also enable verification of a technical condition introduced in [7] for lattices inSL(3,R), which was used in our proof of Raghunathan’s conjecture for a class of unipotent flows, in [8].  相似文献
