When dealing with transportation problems Operational Research (OR), and related areas as Artificial Intelligence (AI), have focused mostly on uni-modal transport problems. Due to the current existence of bigger international logistics companies, transportation problems are becoming increasingly more complex. One of the complexities arises from the use of intermodal transportation. Intermodal transportation reflects the combination of at least two modes of transport in a single transport chain, without a change of container for the goods. In this paper, a new hybrid approach is described which addresses complex intermodal transport problems. It combines OR techniques with AI search methods in order to obtain good quality solutions, by exploiting the benefits of both kinds of techniques. The solution has been applied to a real world problem from one of the largest spanish companies using intermodal transportation, Acciona Transmediterránea Cargo.  相似文献

The Ship Stowage Planning Problem is the problem of determining the optimal position of containers to be stowed in a containership. In this paper we address the problem considering the objectives of the terminal management that are mainly related to the yard and transport operations. We propose a Binary Integer Program and a two-step heuristic algorithm. An extensive computational experience shows the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach. A classification scheme for stowage planning problems is also provided.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new formulation of the logistics network design problem encountered in deterministic, single-country, single-period contexts. Our formulation is flexible and integrates location and capacity choices for plants and warehouses with supplier and transportation mode selection, product range assignment and product flows. We next describe two approaches for solving the problem---a simplex-based branch-and-bound and a Benders decomposition approach. We then propose valid inequalities to strengthen the LP relaxation of the model and improve both algorithms. The computational experiments we conducted on realistic randomly generated data sets show that Benders decomposition is somewhat more advantageous on the more difficult problems. They also highlight the considerable performance improvement that the valid inequalities produce in both solution methods. Furthermore, when these constraints are incorporated in the Benders decomposition algorithm, this offers outstanding reoptimization capabilities.  相似文献

Order picking has long been identified as the most labour-intensive and costly activity for almost every warehouse; the cost of order picking is estimated to be as much as 55% of the total warehouse operating expense. Any underperformance in order picking can lead to unsatisfactory service and high operational cost for the warehouse, and consequently for the whole supply chain. In order to operate efficiently, the order-picking process needs to be robustly designed and optimally controlled. This paper gives a literature overview on typical decision problems in design and control of manual order-picking processes. We focus on optimal (internal) layout design, storage assignment methods, routing methods, order batching and zoning. The research in this area has grown rapidly recently. Still, combinations of the above areas have hardly been explored. Order-picking system developments in practice lead to promising new research directions.  相似文献

This paper studies a two-machine cross-docking flow shop scheduling problem in which a job at the second machine can be processed only after the processing of some jobs at the first machine has been completed. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We first show that the problem is strongly NP-hard. Some polynomially solvable special cases are provided. We then develop a polynomial approximation algorithm with an error-bound analysis. A branch-and-bound algorithm is also constructed. Computational results show that the branch-and-bound algorithm can optimally solve problems with up to 60 jobs within a reasonable amount of time.  相似文献

The worldwide economic growth of the last century has given rise to a vast consumption of goods while globalization has led to large streams of goods all over the world. The production, transportation, storage and consumption of all these goods, however, have created large environmental problems. Today, global warming, created by large scale emissions of greenhouse gasses, is a top environmental concern. Governments, action groups and companies are asking for measures to counter this threat. Operations Research has a long tradition in improving operations and especially in reducing costs. In this paper, we present a review that highlights the contribution of Operations Research to green logistics, which involves the integration of environmental aspects in logistics. We give a sketch of the present and possible developments, focussing on design, planning and control in a supply chain for transportation, inventory of products and facility decisions. While doing this, we also indicate several areas where environmental aspects could be included in OR models for logistics.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel three-phase heuristic/algorithmic approach for the multi-depot routing problem with time windows and heterogeneous vehicles. It has been derived from embedding a heuristic-based clustering algorithm within a VRPTW optimization framework. To this purpose, a rigorous MILP mathematical model for the VRPTW problem is first introduced. Likewise other optimization approaches, the new formulation can efficiently solve case studies involving at most 25 nodes to optimality. To overcome this limitation, a preprocessing stage clustering nodes together is initially performed to yield a more compact cluster-based MILP problem formulation. In this way, a hierarchical hybrid procedure involving one heuristic and two algorithmic phases was developed. Phase I aims to identifying a set of cost-effective feasible clusters while Phase II assigns clusters to vehicles and sequences them on each tour by using the cluster-based MILP formulation. Ordering nodes within clusters and scheduling vehicle arrival times at customer locations for each tour through solving a small MILP model is finally performed at Phase III. Numerous benchmark problems featuring different sizes, clustered/random customer locations and time window distributions have been solved at acceptable CPU times.  相似文献

为提高集装箱码头堆场系统的运作效率,本文针对集装箱码头进出口堆场的空间分配问题,建立了在“作业面”作业模式下以集卡水平运输距离最短为目标,考虑各箱位作业量均衡的集装箱箱位分配模型,对计划时段内的进出口箱箱位分配进行全局优化.采用矩阵式的实数编码方式的遗传算法对模型进行了求解,使用最优解保存策略保证了最终的优化结果.最后通过仿真算例,验证了本文所建立的箱位分配模型对优化堆场空间资源分配,提高进出口箱流转速度的适用性.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new variant of the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), namely the Two-Stage Vehicle Routing Problem with Arc Time Windows (TS_VRP_ATWs) which generally emerges from both military and civilian transportation. The TS_VRP_ATW is defined as finding the vehicle routes in such a way that each arc of the routes is available only during a predefined time interval with the objective of overall cost minimization. We propose a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) formulation and a heuristic approach based on Memetic Algorithm (MA) to solve the TS_VRP_ATW. The qualities of both solution approaches are measured by using the test problems in the literature. Experimental results show that the proposed MIP formulation provides the optimal solutions for the test problems with 25 and 50 nodes, and some test problems with 100 nodes. Results also show that the proposed MA is promising quality solutions in a short computation time.  相似文献

The attribute based hill climber (ABHC) is a variant of the general tabu-search principle which has shown to be competitive with respect to quality as well as efficiency to other local search heuristics for the two corner stone problems in combinatorial optimization: the travelling salesman problem and the quadratic assignment problem. ABHC is completely parameter-free, and its generic logic depends on the concept of partitioning the solution space based on solution “attributes”, which is the problem-specific choice. In this paper we analyze the effectiveness of this concept and the efficiency of the ABHC heuristic for the general vehicle routing problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider an inventory–routing problem (IRP) in a large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group. Compared to many other IRPs, the problem in this paper includes some special aspects due to the operational constraints, such as hours-of-service regulations of the company and the industry. Also, in some cases, it is more important to avoid stock out for any station, rather than purely focusing on transportation cost minimization. The objective is to minimize the maximum of the route travel time, which is not addressed in the literature so far. We present a tabu search algorithm to tackle the problem, which builds in an efficient and effective procedure to improve the search quality in each iteration. Moreover, lower bounds of reasonable sized problems, which are intractable in the formulated mathematical model by existing optimization software, are obtained via Lagrangian relaxation technique. Computational results indicate that the lower bounds are tight and the tabu search is capable of providing near optimal, close-to-lower-bound solutions in a computational time effective manner.  相似文献

The configuration of the reverse logistics network is a complex problem comprising the determination of the optimal sites and capacities of collection centers, inspection centers, remanufacturing facilities, and/or recycling plants. In this paper, we propose a profit maximization modeling framework for reverse logistics network design problems. We present a mixed-integer linear programming formulation that is flexible to incorporate most of the reverse network structures plausible in practice. In order to consider the possibility of making future adjustments in the network configuration to allow gradual changes in the network structure and in the capacities of the facilities, we consider a multi-period setting. We propose a multi-commodity formulation and use a reverse bill of materials in order to capture component commonality among different products and to have the flexibility to incorporate all plausible means in tackling product returns. The proposed general framework is justified by a case study in the context of reverse logistics network design for washing machines and tumble dryers in Germany. We conduct extensive parametric and scenario analysis to illustrate the potential benefits of using a dynamic model as opposed to its static counterpart, and also to derive a number of managerial insights.  相似文献

The opinions of logistics educators in Taiwan on OR practices in the domestic logistics industry are explored in this research. In this study, questionnaires were given to 42 pre-screened educators at 10 logistics departments and graduate institutes. According to the 37 valid returned questionnaires, 70% of the responding educators believe the major source of OR techniques in Taiwan’s logistics industry originates from individual employee training, while 92% believe OR is not widely used primarily because companies are unfamiliar with OR techniques. OR techniques were considered helpful in solving problems by 73%. Generally speaking, familiarity with OR techniques is not associated with implementation of OR techniques by educators. Additionally, logistics educators express concern about insufficient training for logistics students in Taiwan. However, they are optimistic about the logistics industry’s willingness to more actively adopt OR techniques in Taiwan in the next two years.  相似文献

This paper presents a solution methodology for the heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem with time windows. The objective is to minimize the total distribution costs, or similarly to determine the optimal fleet size and mix that minimizes both the total distance travelled by vehicles and the fixed vehicle costs, such that all problem’s constraints are satisfied. The problem is solved using a two-phase solution framework based upon a hybridized Tabu Search, within a new Reactive Variable Neighborhood Search metaheuristic algorithm. Computational experiments on benchmark data sets yield high quality solutions, illustrating the effectiveness of the approach and its applicability to realistic routing problems. In this study, mathematical models to select the optimal place and size of connections are studied considering the time-value of money. A connection is defined as a part that links different sets of departments through which some interdepartmental material flows must go [S. Huang, R. Batta, R. Nagi, Variable capacity sizing and selection of connections in a facility layout, IIE Transactions 35 (2003) 49–59]. The goal of this paper is to select the location and capacity of the connections so as to minimize the sum of material movement, connection installation and connection maintenance costs minus the salvage value considering the time-value of money. Mixed integer nonlinear programming models are developed for discrete and continuous capacity options. The mixed integer nonlinear programming models of the continuous cases are reduced to mixed integer linear programming models, using proved properties of these problems. For the discrete capacity cases, a computational example and sensitivity analysis of the solutions with respect to possible future changes in the values of parameters are developed and presented.  相似文献

In supply chain management research, transportation costs, if explicitly considered at all, are frequently assumed to be linear. These costs often have a more complex form, such as an all-unit discount structure – this piecewise cost function adds significant complexity when included in supply chain management problems and is therefore often ignored due to solution time or tractability concerns. We present and evaluate a new heuristic procedure which provides good solutions to problems involving all-unit discount cost functions while significantly reducing solution times. The general nature of this procedure does not require assumptions about the supply chain structure or policies, and is therefore applicable in a wide range of settings.  相似文献

The fleet size and mix vehicle routing problem consists of defining the type, the number of vehicles of each type, as well as the order in which to serve the customers with each vehicle when a company has to distribute goods to a set of customers geographically spread, with the objective of minimizing the total costs. In this paper, a heuristic algorithm based on tabu search is proposed and tested on several benchmark instances. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm produces high quality results within a reasonable computing time. Some new best solutions are reported for a set of test problems used in the literature.  相似文献

This paper treats the product location problem in warehouses, i.e., stock keeping units (SKUs) are to be assigned to storage positions in order to minimize the resulting picking effort when retrieving SKUs in a pick-by-order environment. We restrict our view on warehouses having a single cross aisle and show that already very simple layouts consisting of only a single rack lead to NP-hard optimization problems. In addition to a complexity analysis for different layouts, elementary solution procedures are introduced and tested. Finally, we investigate the robustness of our deterministic problem when facing erroneous input data.  相似文献

This paper presents modeling and solution method improvements for the Multi-Resource Routing Problem (MRRP) with flexible tasks. The MRRP with flexible tasks is used to model routing and scheduling problems for intermodal drayage operations in which two resources (tractors and trailers) perform tasks to transport loaded and empty equipment. Tasks may be either well defined, in which both the origin and the destination of a movement are given, or flexible, in which the origin or the destination is chosen by the model. This paper proposes methods to effectively manage the number of options considered for flexible tasks (either feasible origins for a known destination or feasible destinations for a known origin). This modeling change generates sufficient options to allow for low-cost solutions while maintaining reasonable computational effort. We also propose a new solution method that uses randomized route generation. Computational results from test cases show that these changes improve the quality of solutions by at least 5% in the test cases as compared to methods from previous studies.  相似文献
