Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators on generalized Hardy spaces over the polydisc

Let A be a bounded linear operator and P a bounded linear projection on a Banach space X. We show that the operator semigroup \({(e^{t(A-kP)})_{t \ge 0}}\) converges to a semigroup on a subspace of X as \({k \to \infty}\) and we compute the limit semigroup.     

Bounded and compact Toeplitz operators on the weighted Bergman space over the bidisk

Fredholmness of pseudodifference operators in weighted Spaces

The aim of the paper is to present some results concerning pseudodifference operators on ?^N, which are a discrete analog of standard pseudodifferential operators on ?^N. We study the Fredholm property of pseudodifference operators acting in weighted l ^p spaces on ?^N and the Phragmen-Lindelöf principle for solutions of pseudodifference equations and give applications of these results to discrete Schrö dinger operators on ?^N.     

Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators and corona problems

A meromorphic analogue to the corona problem is formulated and studied and its solutions are characterized as being left-invertible in a space of meromorphic functions. The Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators with symbol G∈(L_∞(R))^2×2 is shown to be equivalent to that of a Toeplitz operator with scalar symbol , provided that the Riemann-Hilbert problem admits a solution such that the meromorphic corona problems with data are solvable. The Fredholm properties are characterized in terms of and the corresponding meromorphic left-inverses. Partial index estimates for the symbols and Fredholmness criteria are established for several classes of Toeplitz operators.     

Commuting Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space of the bidisk

On the Hardy space of the bidisk, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a bounded symbol of a Toeplitz operator that commutes with another Toeplitz operator whose symbol is a certain type of bounded symbol.     

Fredholmness and invertibility of Toeplitz operators with matrix almost periodic symbols

We consider Toeplitz operators with symbols that are almost periodic matrix functions of several variables. It is shown that under certain conditions on the group generated by the Fourier support of the symbol, a Toeplitz operator is Fredholm if and only if it is invertible.

     

Quotient modules for some Hilbert modules over the bidisk

In this note, we will prove the essential normality of some type of quotient Hilbert modules over the bidisk. Moreover, we will study some properties of the compression of the multiplication operators to the quotient Hilbert modules.     

Beurling type quotient modules over the bidisk and boundary representations

This paper mainly concerns Beurling type quotient modules of H²(D²) over the bidisk. By establishing a theorem of function theory over the bidisk, it is shown that a Beurling type quotient module is essentially normal if and only if the corresponding inner function is a rational inner function having degree at most (1,1). Furthermore, we apply this result to the study of boundary representations of Toeplitz algebras over quotient modules. It is proved that the identity representation of C^∗(Sz,Sw) is a boundary representation of B(Sz,Sw) in all nontrivial cases. This extends a result of Arveson to Toeplitz algebras on Beurling type quotient modules over the bidisk (cf. [W. Arveson, Subalgebras of C^∗-algebras, Acta Math. 123 (1969) 141-224; W. Arveson, Subalgebras of C^∗-algebras II, Acta Math. 128 (1972) 271-308]). The paper also establishes K-homology defined by Beurling type quotient modules over the bidisk.     

Fredholmness of singular integral operators with discrete subexponentialgroups of shifts on Lebesgue spaces

The paper is devoted to an application of a general local method of studying the Fredholmness of nonlocal bounded linear operators to Banach algebras of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients and discrete subexponential groups of piecewise smooth shifts acting topologically freely on composed contours. Operator theory in the Hardy space over the bidisk (I)

In this paper, we identify the vector valued Hardy space with the Hardy space over the bidisk and construct a universal model for thecontractive analytic functions. We will also study some elementary properties of the submodules and show, in some cases, how the operator theoretical properties are related to the module theoretical properties. The last part focus on the study of double commutativity of compression operators.     

Operator theory in the Hardy space over the bidisk (II)

This paper is a continuation of a project of developing a systematic operator theory inH ²(D ²). A large part of it is devoted to a study ofevaluation operator which is a very useful tool in the theory. A number of elementary properties of the evaluation operator are exhibited, and these properties are used to derive results in other topics such as interpretation of characteristic opertor function inH ²(D ²), spectral equivalence, compactness, compressions of shift operators, etc., Even though some results reflect the two variable nature ofH ²(D ²), the goal of this paper is to manifest a close tie between the operator theory inH ²(D ²) and classical single operator theory. The unilateral shift of a finite multiplicity and the Bergman shift will be used as examples to illustrate some of the results.Research in this paper is partially supported by a grant from the national science foundation DMS 9970932.     

Blaschke products and the rank of backward shift invariant subspaces over the bidisk

Let H²(D²) be the Hardy space over the bidisk. For sequences of Blaschke products {φn(z):−∞<n<∞} and {ψn(w):−∞<n<∞} satisfying some additional conditions, we may define a Rudin type invariant subspace M. We shall determine the rank of H²(D²)?M for the pair of operators and .     

Ranks of backward shift invariant subspaces of the Hardy space over the bidisk

Let $\{\varphi _n(z)\}_{n\ge 0}$ be a sequence of inner functions satisfying that $\zeta _n(z):=\varphi _n(z)/\varphi _{n+1}(z)\in H^\infty (z)$ for every $n\ge 0$ and $\{\varphi _n(z)\}_{n\ge 0}$ has no nonconstant common inner divisors. Associated with it, we have a Rudin type invariant subspace $\mathcal{M }$ of $H^2(\mathbb{D }^2)$ . The ranks of $\mathcal{M }\ominus w\mathcal{M }$ for $\mathcal{F }_z$ and $\mathcal{F }^*_z$ respectively are determined, where $\mathcal{F }_z$ is the fringe operator on $\mathcal{M }\ominus w\mathcal{M }$ . Let $\mathcal{N }= H^2(\mathbb{D }^2)\ominus \mathcal{M }$ . It is also proved that the rank of $\mathcal{M }\ominus w\mathcal{M }$ for $\mathcal{F }^*_z$ equals to the rank of $\mathcal{N }$ for $T^*_z$ and $T^*_w$ .     

Mutually prime sequences of inner functions and the ranks of subspaces over the bidisk

Let \({\{\varphi_n(z)\}_{n\ge0}}\) be a sequence of inner functions satisfying that \({\zeta_n(z):=\varphi_n(z)/\varphi_{n+1}(z)\in H^\infty(z)}\) for every n ≥ 0 and \({\{\varphi_n(z)\}_{n\ge0}}\) have no nonconstant common inner divisors. Associated with it, we have a Rudin type invariant subspace \({\mathcal{M}}\) of \({H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)}\) . We write \({\mathcal{N}= H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)\ominus\mathcal{M}}\) . If \({\{\zeta_n(z)\}_{n\ge0}}\) ia a mutually prime sequence, then we shall prove that \({rank_{\{T^\ast_z,T^\ast_w\}} \mathcal{N}=1}\) and \({rank_{\{\mathcal{F}^\ast_z\}}(\mathcal{M}\ominus w\mathcal{M})=1}\) , where \({\mathcal{F}_z}\) is the fringe operator on \({\mathcal{M}\ominus w\mathcal{M}}\) .     

Equidistant hypersurfaces of the bidisk

The following are notes on the geometry of the bidisk, H ² × H ². In particular, we examine the properties of equidistant surfaces in the bidisk.     

Zero sets of holomorphic functions in the bidisk

We characterize in geometric terms the zero sets of holomorphic functionsf in the bidisk such that log |f|∈L ^p (D ²) for 1<p<∞. Partially supported by the DGCYT grant PB95-0956-C02-02 and grant 1996-SGR-26.     

p-adic 域上的拟微分算子

本文研究p-adic 域Q_p 上的一类拟微分算子{T^α : α∈R}, 其中算子T^α 在Q_p 的检验函数空 间S(Q_p) 以及相应的分布空间S′(Q_p) 中作为一个运算是封闭的. 本文构造了算子T^α 的卷积核, 指 出算子与其卷积核在解决p-adic 域上的相关问题中所起的重要作用. 最后研究算子T^α 的谱性质, 构 造了算子T^α 的全体固有值与固有函数, 并证明全体固有函数所成的集合组成L²(Q_p) 空间中的一组 完整正交基.     

Fredholmness of Linear Combinations of Two Idempotents

Let E and F be idempotent operators on a complex Hilbert space, and let a and b be nonzero scalars with a + b ≠ 0. We prove that aE + bF is Fredholm if and only if E + F is, thus answering affirmatively a question asked by Koliha and Rakočević.
