A Banach space where minimal weak cuscos are generically compact-valued

The space of continuous functions on the double arrow space has long been of interest in differentiability theory since many convex functions on this space are densely but not generically Gâteaux differentiable. We show that this space has the property that minimal weak* cuscos into its dual take compact values at the points of a denseG set.     

Lp-continuous extreme selectors of multifunctions with decomposable values: Existence theorems

The existence theorems of L _p -continuous selectors that values are extreme points are proved for a class of multivalued maps. Applications to multivalued maps appearing in multivalued differential equations are presented.Supported in part by RFFI Grant 93-011-264.     

Lp-Continuous extreme selectors of multifunctions with decomposable values: Relaxation theorems

Some density theorems of L _p-continuous selectors whose values are extreme points are proved for a class of multivalued maps. applications to the Darboux problem for a differential inclusion are presented.Supported in part by RFFI Grant 93-011-264.     

Multivalued generalized nonlinear contractive maps and fixed points

We introduce some notions of generalized nonlinear contractive maps and prove some fixed point results for such maps. Consequently, several known fixed point results are either improved or generalized including the corresponding recent fixed point results of Ciric [L.B. Ciric, Multivalued nonlinear contraction mappings, Nonlinear Anal. 71 (2009) 2716-2723], Klim and Wardowski [D. Klim, D. Wardowski, Fixed point theorems for set-valued contractions in complete metric spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 334 (2007) 132-139], Feng and Liu [Y. Feng, S. Liu, Fixed point theorems for multivalued contractive mappings and multivalued Caristi type mappings, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 317 (2006) 103-112] and Mizoguchi and Takahashi [N. Mizoguchi, W. Takahashi, Fixed point theorems for multivalued mappings on complete metric spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 141 (1989) 177-188].     

Continuous selections for set-valued mappings with finite-dimensional convex values

We show selection theorems for set-valued mappings with finite-dimensional convex values, one of which is a partial extension of a selection theorem due to S. Barov (2008) [1].     

Step functions from the half-open unit interval into a topological space

The set of continuous-from-the-right step functions from the half-open unit interval[0, 1[into a topological space X is denoted by X¹. Elsewhere a topology has been defined which makes X¹ a contractible, locally contractible space with the subspace of constant functions being homeomorphic to X. When X has a bounded metric ?, the topology of X¹ may be described by the metric $\text{d>(f,g)=}\text{∫}\text{0}\text{1}\text{ρ(f(t),g(t))dt}$.It is shown here that if X is separable, then X¹ is separable and if X satisfies the first (or second) axiom of countability, then X¹ satisfies it too. In contrast, it is shown that properties such as normality do not extend from X to X¹. This follows from the main result: X¹ is homeomorphic to its square, and thus contains a copy of X×X (which is closed when X is Hausdorff). The final theorem states that if X has at least two points then X¹ is not complete metrizable.     

On continuously irreducible continua

We study continuously irreducible continua and characterize them as those continua of type λ for which the set function T is continuous. Using results by Mohler and Oversteegen, we present a new family of one-dimensional continua for which the set function T is continuous and no element of the family contains a pseudo-arc. We study the hyperspaces of these continua.     

A NOTE ON SEMI-CONTINUOUS SET-VALUED FUNCTIONS

Abstract

We prove the existence of invariant weak ideals for majorized compact operators with quasi-nilpotent exact majorant on bo-complete lattice normed spaces.

Using this result a new analogue of the Ando-Krieger spectral radius theorem (the sufficient conditions for r(T) > 0) is deduced.     

Riemann-measurable selections

LetX be a Polish space equipped with a -finite regular Borel measure . IfE is a metric space andF a set-valued function:X 2 ^E with complete values, and ifF is lower semicontinuous at almost all points ofX, we prove that there exists a Riemann-measurable selections ofF.     

On connections between some selection and approximation results for multivalued maps

We study the general conditions on a family of values of a multivalued map under which the existence of single-valued approximations may be derived from continuous selection results.     

Existence and relaxation theorems for extreme continuous selectors of multifunctions with decomposable values

We present some extreme continuous selector theorems, synthesizing the author's results; namely, we study existence and properties of continuous selectors from the set of extreme points of multifunctions with closed convex decomposable values in the space of Bochner integrable functions.

Indecomposability in inverse limits with set-valued functions

In this paper, we develop a sufficient condition for the inverse limit of upper semi-continuous functions to be an indecomposable continuum. This condition generalizes and extends those of Ingram and Varagona. Additionally, we demonstrate a method of constructing upper semi-continuous functions whose inverse limit has the full projection property.     

Selections and totally disconnected spaces

We demonstrate that for every n<ω there exists a separable completely metrizable space Xn which has a continuous selection for its Vietoris hyperspace of nonempty compact subsets, but dim(Xn)=n. Related results and open problems are discussed.     

Multivalued maps, selections and dynamical systems

Under suitable hypotheses the well known notion of first prolongational set J⁺ gives rise to a multivalued map which is continuous when the upper semifinite topology is considered in the hyperspace of X. Some important dynamical concepts such as stability or attraction can be easily characterized in terms of ψ and moreover, the classical result that an attractor in Rn has the shape of a finite polyhedron can be reinforced under the hypotheses that the mapping ψ is small and has a selection.

Mappings between inverse limits of continua with multivalued bonding functions

We investigate the limit mappings between inverse limits of continua with upper semi-continuous bonding functions. Results are obtained when the coordinate mappings are surjective, one-to-one or homeomorphisms. We construct examples showing the hypothesis of the theorems are essential. Further, we construct an example showing that, unlike for the inverse limits with single valued maps, properties of being monotone, confluent or weakly confluent mappings between factor spaces are not preserved in the inverse limit map.     

A class of functions whose sublevel sets are absolute retracts

In this paper, we prove a result of which the following is a corollary: If X is a Banach space and J:X→R is a contraction, then the nonempty sublevel sets of the function x→‖x‖+J(x) are absolute retracts.     

On selections and classes of spaces

Strong paracompactness, Lindelöf number and degree of compactness are characterized in terms of selections of set-valued mappings.
