Sorption and dilation isotherms and diffusion coefficients for seven hydrocarbons (n-butane, isobutane, 1-butene, cis-2-butene, trans-2-butene, isobutylene, and 1,3-butadiene) in two rubbery polymers, 1,2-polybutadiene (PB) and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVAc), were measured at 25°C. Dissolution parameters (Henry's law coefficient and Flory-Huggins interaction parameter), partial molar volumes, and diffusion coefficients were determined. PB exhibited greater affinity and lower diffusivity than EVAc to the C4 gases, although the gases showed nearly the same partial molar volumes in the two polymers. The diffusivity of such elongated molecules as trans-2-butene in both polymers was higher than that of bulky molecules with similar partial molar volume, such as cis-2-butene and isobutylene. Pressure-dependent permeabilities of PB and EVAc films to the hydrocarbons were predicted and discussed based on the dissolution parameters and the diffusivities. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Sorption and dilation properties of polymer-gas systems involving poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) and N2, CH4, or CO2, have been investigated at pressures up to 50 atm at temperatures of 10–40°C. Sorption isotherms for low-solubility gases (i.e., CH4 and N2) can be described by Henry's law, and those for high-solubility gas (i.e., CO2) by Flory-Huggins dissolution equation. Dilation isotherms are similar in contour to the corresponding sorption isotherms. From the obtained sorption and dilation data, partial molar volumes of the gases in the polymer were determined as a function of temperature. Thermal expansivity of dissolved CO2 molecules was estimated at ca. 2.4 × 10?3°C?1 from the temperature dependence of partial molar volume. The expansivity is smaller than that of liquid CO2 and larger than those of the polymer and organic liquids. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The densities of aqueous solutions of tetramethylammonium, tetraethylammonium, tetra-n-propylammonium and tetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide have been measured at 25°C in the concentration range 0.1–1.0 mol-kg-1 . The apparent and partial molar volumes are calculated from the density measurements. The apparent molar volumes of the solutes show considerable deviation from the Debye-Hülckel limiting law, even at high dilution. The relation for the concentration dependence of the apparent molar volume is given in an analytical form. The limiting apparent molar volumes of the solutes are split into their ionic components by an extrathermodynamic approach and are discussed in terms of ion-solvent interactions. In this way, the limiting partial molar ionic volume for the hydroxide ion is found to be 2 cm3-mol-1.  相似文献

Partial molar volumes, V 2 o , and partial molar heat capacities, C p,2 o , of the tripeptides glycylglycylglycine, glycylglycylalanine, glycylalanylglycine and alanylglycylglycine have been determined in aqueous solution at 25°C. For the three alanyl-containing tripeptides, the data indicate that the tripeptide-water interaction is influenced by the side chain position within the molecule. The results have been rationalized in terms of likely solutesolvent interactions. The V 2 o and C p.2 o data have also been used to calculate the contribution to these properties of a-CH3 side chain.  相似文献

Density measurements of water-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)-alcohol ternary systems as a function of alcohol and surfactant concentrations were carried out at 25°C. The alcohols were propanol (PrOH), 2-propanol (2-PrOH) and hexanol (HexOH). The apparent molar volume V,R of alcohols have been calculated and the standard (infinite dilution) partial molar volumes of alcohols V R at each surfactant concentration were obtained by means of a least squares fit of V,R vs. the alcohol concentration. The V R vs. surfactant concentration curves have been rationalized in terms of the partial molar volume of alcohol in the aqueous V f and the micellar V b phases and the distribution constant of alcohol between the aqueous and the micellar phases K. The V b values for PrOH and HexOH together with those of butanol and pentanol previously reported satisfy the additivity rule giving a methylene group contribution of 16.7 cm3-mol–1 which is identical to that reported in the literature from the study of pure liquid alcohols. No difference between V b for PrOH and 2-PrOH has been found. From density data of water-alcohol and water-surfactant binary systems and of water-surfactant-alcohol ternary system, the apparent molar volume of the surfactant in the water-alcohol mixed solvent V,S have been calculated as a function of the surfactant concentration and of the mixed solvent composition. The effect of the alkyl chain length of the alcohols and the effect of isomerization of the alcohols on the V,S vs. surfactant concentration trends have been analyzed.  相似文献

Molar excess volumes and partial molar excess volumes are reported for binary mixtures of dibutylamine+dichloromethane, trichloromethane and tetrachloromethane at 25°C, over the whole concentration range. A comparative study is made between the primary and secondary amines and their mixtures with chloroalkanes. The applicability of the so-called ERAS model for predicting thermodynamic excess properties is tested here for excess molar volumes; the calculated values agree quite well with experimental data.  相似文献

The equilibrium sorption and swelling behavior of four different polymers—poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(tetrafluoroethylene), poly(vinylidene fluoride), and the random copolymer tetrafluoroethylene–perfluoromethylvinylether–in supercritical CO2—are studied at different temperatures (from 40 to 80 °C) and pressures (up to 200 bar). Swelling is measured by visualization, and sorption through a gravimetric technique. From these data, the behavior of amorphous and semicrystalline polymers can be compared, particularly in terms of partial molar volume of CO2 in the polymer matrix. Both poly(methyl methacrylate) and the copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene exhibit a behavior typical of rubbery systems. On the contrary, polymers with a considerable degree of crystallinity, such as poly(tetrafluoroethylene) and poly (vinylidene fluoride), show larger values of partial molar volume. These can be related to the limited mobility of the polymer chains in a semicrystalline matrix, which causes the structure to “freeze” during the sorption process into a nonequilibrium state that can differ significantly from the actual thermodynamic equilibrium. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The Flory–Huggins interaction parameters χ for 23 gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, H2, N2, O2, N2O, CO2, CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C3H6, C3H8, 1,3-C4H6, four C4H8's, n-C4H10, iso-C4H10, and n-C5H12) in five rubbery polymers (1,2-polybutadiene (PB), poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate)) (EVAc), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) were determined from either literature data on Henry's law coefficient and partial molar volume or those on sorptive dilation for each polymer/gas system. Values of χ for the gases increased in the order of PDMS < PP ≡ PB < EVAc ≡ PE. Among the gases except He and H2 whose χ values are not reliable, Ne and Xe have respectively the highest and the lowest values of χ for the polyolefins. The χ values of the hydrocarbons were compared together with previously reported χ values of n-alkanes C3-C10. The dependencies of χ upon concentration and temperature were discussed on the basis of the literature data. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 35 : 1049–1053, 1997  相似文献

The excess molar volumes and molar refractionsR 12 of 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU)+water have been determined over the entire mole fraction range at 10° intervals from 5 to 45°C and at atmosphere pressure. The excess volumes are all negative and they become more positive with increase of temperature. Limiting partial molar volumes for DMPU in water and water in DMPU are also reported.  相似文献

Densities of isopropyl alconol-water mixtures were measured over the entire mole fraction range at 5, 15, 25, 35 and 45°C. Apparent and partial molar volumes and partial molar expansibilities were derived for both components. The results were compared with those of a previous investigation of t-butyl alcohol-water mixtures.  相似文献

Enthalpies of dilution at 25°C of aqueous solutions of the dipeptides glycylglycine, glycylalanine and alanylalanine have been determined and used to calculate the partial molar enthalpies of the solvent water in the solutions. The partial molar volumes of these dipeptides are also reported. The results are discussed in terms of the likely solute-solvent interactions.  相似文献

From density measurements over the whole composition range at 25 and 40°C excess molar volumes for binary mixtures of 1,4-dichlorobutane with l-butanol, 2-butanol, 2-methyl-l-propanol or 2-methyl-2-propanol are calculated. VE results were fitted by the method of least squares to a smoothing equation. Excess partial molar volumes and limiting excess partial molar volumes at 25° are also calculated.  相似文献

The partial molar volumes at infinite dilution of cryptand-222 (C-222) in water, methanol, acetonitrile, ethanol, dimethylsulfoxide, propanol, 2-propanol, chloroform, benzene, 1-butanol, cyclohexane, butyl-methylketone, hexane, tetrahydronaphthalene, heptane, octane, cyclohexylbenzene and decane were measured at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 mol-L–1 at 25°C. The partial molar volumes at infinite dilution showed remarkable dependency on the molar volume of the solvent. The partial molar volumes at infinite dilution for C-222 increase as the solvent molar volume increases.  相似文献

The apparent and partial molar volumes in aqueous solution were obtained for (n-Bu)4PBr and (n-Bu)4-n Ph n PCl (n=1–4) at six temperatures from 1 to 55°C. The apparent molar expansibilities were also obtained. The hydrophobic character of the cations is reduced by replacing butyl groups with phenyl groups, as evidenced by the decrease in the magnitudes of the B v -coefficient (negative for all n) and of the temperature dependent extrema found in the apparent molar volumes and expansibilities as a function of concentration. However, the extrema exist even with BuPh3PCl at low temperatures. The result suggests that the phenyl groups weakly affect the butyl cospheres and cation-cation interactions.  相似文献

The sorption and transport of four aliphatic hydrocarbons into natural rubber crosslinked by different vulcanization systems [conventional (CV), efficient (EV), peroxide (DCP) and a mixed system consisting of sulfur and peroxide (mixed)] were investigated in the temperature interval of 28–60°C. Of the four systems, natural rubber vulcanized by DCP exhibited lowest penetrant uptake. It was observed that the kinetics of liquid sorption in every case deviates from the regular Fickian trend, characteristic of sorption of liquids by rubbers. The diffusion coefficient, activation energy of sorption, enthalpy, entropy, and the rubber-solvent interaction parameter were evaluated for the four systems from the swelling data. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The limiting partial molar volumes of alkali metal halides in water and some other protic solvents have been dissected into individual ionic contributions. The extra-thermodynamic procedure employed assumes independent contributions of ion-solvent and solvent-solvent interactions to this property. The resulting parameters are found to be chemically reasonable and consistent with the molecular properties of the solvents. The limiting partial molar volume of the hydrogen ion has been calculated to be –4.2 cm3-mol–1 in water at 25°C. Analysis of data for aqueous solutions from 0 to 50°C permits the evaluation of the energy change associated with the transfer of a water molecule from the bulk to the hydration zone. Results from the present work are compared with those obtained from the scaled particle theory.  相似文献

The objective of this review is to organize literature data on the thermodynamic properties of salt‐containing polystyrene/poly(ethylene oxide) (PS/PEO) blends and polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (SEO) diblock copolymers. These systems are of interest due to their potential to serve as electrolytes in all‐solid rechargeable lithium batteries. Mean‐field theories, developed for pure polymer blends and block copolymers, are used to describe phenomenon seen in salt‐containing systems. An effective Flory–Huggins interaction parameter, χeff , that increases linearly with salt concentration is used to describe the effect of salt addition for both blends and block copolymers. Segregation strength, χeffN , where N is the chain length of the homopolymers or block copolymers, is used to map phase behavior of salty systems as a function of composition. Domain spacing of salt‐containing block copolymers is normalized to account for the effect of copolymer composition using an expression obtained in the weak segregation limit. The phase behavior of salty blends, salty block copolymers, and domain spacings of the latter systems, are presented as a function of chain length, composition and salt concentration on universal plots. While the proposed framework has limitations, the universal plots should serve as a starting point for organizing data from other salt‐containing polymer mixtures. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. A method for the quantitative evaluation of kinetic constants in Ziegler–Natta and metallocene olefin homopolymerizations presented previously (V. Matos, A. G. M. Neto, J. C. Pinto, J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2001 , 79, 2076; V. Matos, A. G. M. Neto, M. Nele, J. C. Pinto, J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2002 , 86, 3226) is extended to allow for estimation of model parameters in copolymerization reactions. The method is used to estimate kinetic parameters of ethylene/propylene copolymerization during the synthesis of high impact poly(propylene) in a train of cascade reactors. Process models were developed to describe the reaction rate profile, reactor solubles, molecular weight distribution of the total polymer, xylene solubles, and insoluble polymer. The process models and the estimated parameters were inserted into a process simulator that successfully described the industrial process.

Poly(oligoethylene glycol)‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) is a model diblock for studying the effect of block‐localized charge on block copolymer self‐assembly because in the absence of charge the polymers are perfectly miscible, and upon protonation of the vinylpyridine block the polymer undergoes an order–disorder transition. Seven model block copolymers with molecular weights of approximately 60 kDa containing poly(2‐vinylpyridine) volume fractions spanning 0.069–0.700 were synthesized using reversible addition fragmentation transfer polymerization and then studied to understand the effect of protonation level, diblock composition, and temperature on the location of the ordering transition and the type of nanostructures formed in a charge asymmetric system. All of the polymers displayed lower critical solution‐type behavior, with the order–disorder transition temperature decreasing with increasing acid content. Polymers with symmetric compositions showed the highest degree of incompatibility for a given degree of protonation, and the observed morphologies for all polymers were consistent with those observed at similar compositions for classical hydrophobic block copolymers. The observed protonation‐induced phase transition can be explained by the shift of the Flory–Huggins parameter due to the alternation of the identity of monomers, consistent with the prediction of Nakamura and Wang's theory. The use of polyvalent ions promotes self‐assembly at lower concentrations, consistent with ionic crosslinking effects between polymer chains that are promoted at high concentration due to exchange entropy in crosslinked polymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three new CO2-philic bis(2-ethoxyethyl) ethanedioate derivatives, bis(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl) ethanedioate (compound 1), bis(2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl) ethanedioate (compound 2), and bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl) ethanedioate (compound 3), were designed and synthesized and their solubilities in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) were then measured at different temperatures (313, 323, 333) K over the pressure range (8.9 to 13.9) MPa. The measured solubility data were correlated with five different theoretical semi-empirical models (Chrastil, kJ, SS, MST, JCF) and satisfactory agreements were obtained. The JCF model provided the best fit and the lowest average absolute relative deviation (AARD) varied from (3.58 to 6.80)%. Furthermore, the partial molar volumes of three compounds in the supercritical phase were also calculated according to the Kumar and Johnston theory, and the values were between −(19105 and 3510) cm3 · mol−1.  相似文献
