The homogenization process caused by competition between phase separation and ester‐interchange reactions in immiscible polyester blends was investigated via the Monte Carlo simulation method. Phase separation and ester‐interchange reactions were performed simultaneously with the one‐site bond fluctuation model on a homogeneous blend of immiscible polyesters. Three different values of the repulsive pair‐interaction energy (EAB) between segments A and B and two trial ratios of phase separation to ester‐interchange reactions at a given EAB were introduced to examine the competition between them. Phase separation was monitored by the calculation of the collective structure factor, and copolymerization was traced by the calculation of the degree of randomness (DR). In all cases, as the homogenization proceeded, the maximum intensity of the collective structure factor initially increased, reached a maximum, and finally decreased, whereas the peak position where the structure factor had a maximum shifted downward in the early stage and then remained unchanged after the intensity of the collective structure factor reached the maximum. This indicates that during the homogenization process, the domain size did not change significantly after phase‐separated structures were developed distinctly. In this simulation, phase‐separated structures were traced until the DR was above 0.8. This result indicates that homogenization can be accomplished via homogeneous ester‐interchange reactions over most of the polyester chains because copolyesters resulting from ester‐interchange reactions do not act as an efficient compatibilizer. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, new investigations on the effect of comonomer sequential structure on the thermal and crystallization behaviors and biodegradability have been implemented for the biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐butylene terephthalate) (PBST) as well as aliphatic poly(butylene succinate) (PBS). At first, these copolyesters were efficiently synthesized from dimethyl succinate and/or dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4‐butanediol via condensation polymerization in bulk. Subsequently, their molecular weights and macromolecular chain structures were analyzed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. By means of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffractometer (WAXD), thermal and crystallization behaviors of these synthesized aromatic–aliphatic copolyesters were further explored. It was demonstrated that the synthesized copolyesters were revealed to have random comonomer sequential structures with thermal and crystallization properties strongly depending on their comonomer molar compositions, and that crystal lattice structures of the new crystallizable copolyesters shifted from the monoclinic crystal of semicrystalline PBS to triclinic lattice of the poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) with increasing the terephthalate comonomer composition, and the minor comonomer components were suggested to be trapped in the crystallizable component domains as defects. In addition, the enzymatic degradability was also characterized for the copolyesters film samples. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 1635–1644, 2006  相似文献

Aliphatic polycarbonate (PC) copolymer is synthesized by ring opening copolymerization of acrylate‐ and allyl‐functional cyclic carbonate monomers. The post‐polymerization functionalization of the resulting copolymer is performed quantitatively using a variety of thiol compounds via sequential Michael addition and photo‐induced radical thiol‐ene click reactions within relatively short reaction time at ambient temperature. This metal‐free click chemistry methodology affords the synthesis of biocompatible PC copolymer with multifunctional groups. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The crystallization behaviors and spherulite morphology of a series of butylene terephthalate–ϵ‐caprolactone (BCL) copolyesters were explored with differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. The crystallization characteristics reflecting the segmented properties of BCL copolyesters are discussed. For BCL copolyesters with low or high hard‐segment contents, the ϵ‐caprolactone segments or butylene terephthalate segments are long enough to crystallize and even grow spherulites under appropriate conditions, and the crystallizability strengthens with increases in the corresponding segment sequence length. In BCL copolyesters, the crystallization of the soft segments requires a considerably long sequence length, whereas the hard segments even containing only one structural unit can still crystallize and even grow spherulites. The hard segments can grow the usual spherulites at a higher temperature like the poly(butylene terephthalate) homopolymer. The crystallizabilities of hard segments and soft segments for BCL and ethylene terephthalate–ϵ‐caprolactone copolyesters are compared and discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. To synthesize the copolyester of poly(β‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL), the transesterification of PHB and PCL was carried out in the liquid phase with stannous octoate as the catalyzer. The effects of reaction conditions on the transesterification, including catalyzer concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time, were investigated. The results showed that both rising reaction temperature and increasing reaction time were advantageous to the transesterification. The sequence distribution, thermal behavior, and thermal stability of the copolyesters were investigated by 13C NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, optical microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The transesterification of PHB and PCL was confirmed to produce the block copolymers. With an increasing PCL content in the copolyesters, the thermal behavior of the copolyesters changed evidently. However, the introduction of PCL segments into PHB chains did not affect its crystalline structure. Moreover, thermal stability of the copolyesters was little improved in air as compared with that of pure PHB. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We explored phase separation and self‐assembly of perfluoroalkyl segments at the surface of polymer films obtained from latices of semifluorinated acrylate copolymers and the corresponding latex blends of nonfluorinated and semifluorinated polyacrylates. With laser‐induced secondary mass spectrometry the fluorine distribution was measured after annealing above the minimum film‐forming temperature of the polymers up to a depth of several micrometers. Depth profiles of a semifluorinated acrylate homopolymer and latex blends thereof with fluorine‐free alkylacrylates with 25, 50, and 75 mol % semifluorinated acrylate as well as a copolymer comprised of alkyl acrylate and semifluorinated acrylate (50/50 mol %) were investigated. In the case of latex blends containing both semifluorinated polyacrylates and fluorine‐free or low‐fluorine polymers, self‐assembly accounted for enrichment of the perfluoroalkyl segments at the surface. Coatings exhibiting low surface energy and having a substantially reduced total fluorine content were obtained. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solvent transport in poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and related phase transformation were investigated. The data of mass sorption were analyzed according to Harmon's model for Case I (Fickian), Case II (swelling), and anomalous transport. This transport process in PET is accompanied by the induced crystallization of the original amorphous state. The transformation was examined by wide‐angle X‐ray scattering, small‐angle X‐ray scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. During this process, the matrix is under a strain state that causes different kinetic paths of crystallization as compared with that by thermal annealing. This state of strain assists the development of the solvent‐induced crystallization. The model regarding crystallization was proposed in terms of the study of long period L, the crystal thickness lc, and the thickness of amorphous layer la obtained from the one‐dimensional correlation function and interface distribution function. Different kinetic paths were discovered for different crystallization processes. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 40: 1444–1453, 2002  相似文献

A facile one‐pot 1,8‐diazacyclo‐[5,4,0]undec‐7‐ene (DBU) catalyzed transesterification/atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) strategy has been successfully developed through the combination of copper/DBU‐catalyzed ATRP and DBU‐catalyzed transesterification reactions. Well‐defined poly(methacrylate)s with various side ester groups have been synthesized by ATRP and transesterification of acyl donor 2,2,2‐trifluoethyl methacrylate with various alcohols, such as benzyl alcohol, n‐butanol, iso‐propyl alcohol, methanol, triethylene glycol monomethyl ether, propargyl alcohol, and 6‐azido‐1‐hexanol by the one‐pot process. Kinetic studies indicate that the ATRP process proceeded in a controllable manner without the interference of the transesterification reactions. Expansion of the binary system to a higher level ternary system has been successfully achieved by the combination of copper(I)‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition, transesterification, and ATRP reactions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of fully aromatic copolyesters based on p‐acetoxybenzoic acid (p‐ABA), hydroquinone diacetate (HQDA), terephthalic acid (TPA), and m‐acetoxybenzoic acid (m‐ABA) were prepared by a modified melt‐polycondensation reaction. The copolyesters were characterized by DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, 1H NMR, polarized optical microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. The copolyesters exhibited nematic liquid‐crystalline phases in a broad temperature range of about 150 °C, when the content of linear (p‐ABA, HQDA, and TPA) units was over 67 mol %. DSC analysis of the anisotropic copolyesters revealed broad endotherms associated with the nematic phases, and the melting or flow temperatures were found to be in the processable region. The flow temperatures and crystal‐to‐nematic and nematic‐to‐isotropic transitions depend on the type of linear monomer units, and these transitions increased as the content of the p‐ABA units increased, as compared to the HQDA/TPA units. When the content of the p‐ABA units increased, as compared to other linear units (HQDA and TPA), the intrinsic viscosity and degree of crystallinity of the copolyesters also increased, implying a higher reactivity for p‐ABA in the p‐ABA/HQDA/TPA/m‐ABA polymer system. The aromatic region in the 1H NMR spectra of the copolyesters containing equal molar compositions of p‐ABA, HQDA, and TPA units were sensitive to the sequence distribution of aromatic rings. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We successfully synthesized poly(l ‐lactide)‐b‐poly (methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers at ambient temperature by combining ultraviolet light‐induced copper‐catalyzed ATRP and organo‐catalyzed ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) in one‐pot. The polymerization processes were carried out by three routes: one‐pot simultaneous ATRP and ROP, one‐pot sequential ATRP followed by ROP, and one‐pot sequential ROP followed by ATRP. The structure of the block copolymers is confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance and gel permeation chromatography, which suggests that the polymerization method is facile and attractive for preparing block copolymers. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Segmented copolyesters, namely, poly(butylene terephthalate)–poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐isophthalate‐co‐sebacate) (PBT‐PETIS), were synthesized with the melting transesterification processing in vacuo condition involving bulk polyester produced on a large scale (PBT) and ternary amorphous random copolyester (PETIS). Investigations on the morphology of segmented copolyesters were undertaken. The two‐phase morphology model was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. One of the phases was composed of crystallizable PBT, and the other was a homogeneous mixture of PETIS and noncrystallizable PBT. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(γ‐methyl L ‐glutamate)s with Ser, His, Asp, and Glu residues at the amino terminal as the serine protease catalytic site were prepared. The number‐average degree of polymerization of the polypeptides was 51. A dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine monolayer containing the polypeptides was formed at the air–water interface and was transferred onto gold‐deposited glass plates. The binding of N‐acetyltyrosine ethyl ester, a typical substrate of the serine protease, to the monolayer was characterized by surface plasmon resonance measurements. The four‐polypeptide–lipid monolayer system conditioned on an aqueous solution containing the substrate N‐acetyltyrosine ethyl ester exhibited Langmuir‐type binding of the substrate. Its binding constant of 6.1 × 104 M−1 was about 20 times larger than that observed for a monolayer prepared on pure water. The behavior may have arisen from a substrate‐induced rearrangement of the four kinds of polypeptides in the monolayer, forming a substrate‐binding structure similar to that found in serine protease. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This article reports the results of confocal fluorescence microscopy studies of shear‐induced coalescence in binary blends of poly(2‐ethylhexyl methacrylate) (PEHMA; 90 wt %) and poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA; 10 wt %). We prepared the blends by casting a mixture of latex dispersions of the components onto a substrate and allowing the film to dry under ambient conditions. The initial morphology of the film was a dispersion of 120‐nm PBMA spheres in a continuous PEHMA matrix. One‐fifth of the PBMA particles were labeled with anthracene, the emission of which we observed with confocal microscopy. The blends were sheared in a parallel‐plate rheometer at 80 and 100 °C for 1 and 10 h. Careful image analysis allowed us to estimate the mean size of the dispersed phase and the width of the size distribution. The results were compared with the theoretical limits of Wu and Taylor. After 10 h of shearing, the mean particle size decreased and the particle distribution became narrower in comparison with the results obtained after 1 h of shearing. We explain this result by inferring that before the sample reached steady‐state morphology, its rate of coalescence was greater than the rate of particle breakup. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of aliphatic–aromatic multiblock copolyesters consisting of poly(ethylene‐co‐1,6‐hexene terephthalate) (PEHT) and poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) were synthesized successfully by chain‐extension reaction of dihydroxyl terminated PEHT‐OH prepolymer and dihydroxyl terminated PLLA‐OH prepolymer using toluene‐2,4‐diisoyanate as a chain extender. PEHT‐OH prepolymers were prepared by two step reactions using dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol, and 1,6‐hexanediol as raw materials. PLLA‐OH prepolymers were prepared by direct polycondensation of L ‐lactic acid in the presence of 1,4‐butanediol. The chemical structures, the molecular weights and the thermal properties of PEHT‐OH, PLLA‐OH prepolymers, and PEHT‐PLLA copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, GPC, TG, and DSC. This synthetic method has been proved to be very efficient for the synthesis of high‐molecular‐weight copolyesters (say, higher than Mw = 3 × 105 g/mol). Only one glass transition temperature was found in the DSC curves of PEHT‐PLLA copolymers, indicating that the PLLA and PEHT segments had good miscibility. TG curves showed that all the copolyesters had good thermal stabilities. The resulting novel aromatic–aliphatic copolyesters are expected to find a potential application in the area of biodegradable polymer materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A polymer‐dispersed liquid‐crystal (PDLC) film was prepared from UV‐curable acrylic, thermally curable epoxy, and a liquid‐crystal (LC) mixture with a fixed LC content of 40 wt %. The UV irradiation and heat treatments were in sequential steps. At first, a phase diagram of a binary mixture of LC (E63) and epoxy [diglycidyl ether of polypropylene glycol (DER736)] was established to understand their miscibility. Then, the phase‐separation temperatures and morphologies of pre‐UV‐cured films with different equivalent DER736/dicyandiamide (DICY) molar ratios were observed. Finally, the polymerization‐induced phase‐separation behavior and morphology of the PDLC film were studied by real‐time observation while the film was maintained at 130 °C under the microscope. The results showed that the acrylic network would not affect the phase‐separation behavior of the E63/DER736 mixture. In both thermally induced and polymerization‐induced phase separations, the undissolved DICY particles acted as nucleation agents and were capable of inducing E63 to separate out early. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The bio‐based polyester, poly(ethylene 2,5‐furandicarboxylate) (PEF), was modified by 2,2,4,4‐tetramethyl‐1,3‐cyclobutanediol (CBDO) via copolymerization and a series of copolyesters poly(ethylene‐co‐2,2,4,4‐tetramethyl‐1,3‐cyclobutanediol 2,5‐furandicarboxylate)s (PETFs) were prepared. After their chemical structures and sequence distribution were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR), their thermal, mechanical, and gas barrier properties were investigated in detail. Results showed that when the content of CBDO unit in the copolyesters was increased up to 10 mol%, the completely amorphous copolyesters with good transparency could be obtained. In addition, with the increasing content of CBDO units in the copolyesters, the glass transition temperature was increased from 88.9 °C for PET to 94.3 °C for PETF‐23 and the tensile modulus was increased from 3000 MPa for PEF to 3500 MPa for PETF‐23. The barrier properties study demonstrated that although the introduction of CBDO units would increase the O2 and CO2 permeability of PEF slightly, PECF‐10 still showed better or similar barrier properties compared with those of PEN and PEI. In one word, the modified PEF copolyesters exhibited better mechanical properties, higher glass transition temperature, good barrier properties, and better clarity. They have great potential to be the bio‐based alternative to the popular petroleum‐based poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) when used as the beverage packaging materials. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrated the successful postfunctionalization of poly(oxanorbornene imide) (PONB) with two types of double bonds using sequential orthogonal reactions, nucleophilic thiol‐ene coupling via Michael addition and radical thiol‐ene click reactions. First, the synthesis of PONB with side chain acrylate groups is carried out via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization and nitroxide radical coupling reaction, respectively. Subsequently, the resulting polymer having two different orthogonal functionalities, main chain vinyl and side chain acrylate, is selectively modified via two sequential thiol‐ene click reactions, nucleophilic thiol‐ene coupling via Michael addition and photoinduced radical thiol‐ene. The orthogonal reactivity of two diverse double bonds, vinyl and acrylate functionalities, for the abovementioned consecutive thiol‐ene click reactions was first demonstrated on the model compound. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Side‐chain liquid‐crystalline‐b‐amorphous copolymers combine the thermotropic ordering of liquid crystals (LCs) with the physics of block copolymer phase segregation. In our earlier experiments, we observed that block copolymer order–order and order–disorder transitions could be induced by LC transitions. Here we report the development of a free‐energy model to understand the interplay between LC ordering and block copolymer morphology in an incompressible melt. The model considers the interaction between LC moieties, the stretching of amorphous chains from curved interfaces, interfacial surface contributions, and elastic deformation of the nematic phase. The LC block is modeled with Wang and Warner's theory, in which nematogens interact through mean‐field potentials, and the LC backbone is modeled as a wormlike chain. Free energy is estimated for various morphologies: homogeneous, lamellar, cylinder micelle, and spherical micelle. Phase diagrams were constructed by iteration over temperature and composition ranges. The resulting composition diagrams are highly asymmetric, and a variety of first‐order transitions are predicted to occur at the LC clearing temperature. Qualitatively, nematic deformation energies destabilize curved morphologies, especially when the LC block is in the center of the block copolymer micelle. The thermodynamics of diblocks with laterally attached, side‐on mesogens are also explored. Discussion focuses on how well the model captures experimental phenomena and how the predicted phase boundaries are affected by changes in polymer architecture. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polytriarylamine copolymers can be prepared by Suzuki‐Miyaura cross‐coupling reactions of bis N‐methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA) boronate ester substituted arylamines with dibromo arenes. The roles of solvent composition, temperature, reaction time, and co‐monomer structure were examined and (co)polymers prepared containing 9, 9‐dioctylfluorene (F8), 4‐sec‐butyl or 4‐octylphenyl diphenyl amine (TFB), and N, N′‐bis(4‐octylphenyl)‐N, N′‐diphenyl phenylenediamine (PTB) units, using a Pd(OAc)2/2‐dicyclohexylphosphino‐2′,6′‐dimethoxybiphenyl (SPhos) catalyst system. The performance of a di‐functionalized MIDA boronate ester monomer was compared with that of an equivalent pinacol boronate ester. Higher molar mass polymers were produced from reactions starting with a difunctionalized pinacol boronate ester monomer than the equivalent difunctionalized MIDA boronate ester monomer in biphase solvent mixtures (toluene/dioxane/water). Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectroscopic analysis revealed that polymeric structures rich in residues associated with the starting MIDA monomer were present, suggesting that homo‐coupling of the boronate ester must be occurring to the detriment of cross‐coupling in the step‐growth polymerization. However, when comparable reactions of the two boronate monomers with a dibromo fluorene monomer were completed in a single phase solvent mixture (dioxane + water), high molar mass polymers with relatively narrow distribution ranges were obtained after only 4 h of reaction. © 2017 The Authors. Novel poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) copolyesters, abbreviated PEDMBT, containing optically active (2S,3S)‐2,3‐dimethoxy‐1,4‐butanediol (DMBD) as the second comonomer were investigated. Copolymers with ethylene glycol to DMBD ratios between 95/5 and 50/50 as well as the two parent homopolymers, PET and PDMBT, were prepared by a two‐step melt polycondensation. The resulting copolymers were found to approximately have the composition of the polymerization reaction feed and a random microstructure. Polymer intrinsic viscosities varied from 0.4 to 0.6 dL g?1 with weight‐average molecular weights ranging from 16,000 to 44,000. PEDMBT copolyesters were distinguished in being much more soluble than PET and showing an increasing affinity for water with the content in dimethoxy groups. According to the asymmetric constitution of DMBD, they displayed optical activity in solution. Both melting and glass‐transition temperatures of the copolyesters were observed to steadily decrease with the content in DMBD. PEDMBTs were found to be crystalline for contents in DMBD up to 30 mol %. Both powder and fiber X‐ray diffraction revealed that the same crystalline structure is shared by PET and the crystalline copolyesters. The homopolyester PDMBT resulted in becoming a polymer with a crystallinity comparable to PET but with a significantly different crystalline structure. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
