The cationic initiation activity of derivatives of S‐methylsulfonium salts of dibenzothiophene ( 3a ), diphenyl sulfide ( 4a ), thioanisole ( 4d ), and tetrahydrothiophene ( 5 ) was evaluated in the polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether ( 1 ). These initiators were soluble in 1 and capable of initiating the cationic polymerization of 1 on heating, with the exception of methyltetrahydrothiophenium tetrafluoroborate ( 5 ; in the range of room temperature to 160 °C). Among them, methyldiphenylsulfonium tetrafluoroborate ( 4a ) showed a moderate thermal latency that brought about the polymerization of 1 efficiently at 160 °C but not below 80 °C. S‐Alkylsulfonium salts of aromatic sulfides such as phenoxathiin ( 6a ) and thianthrene ( 6b ) also were evaluated for their activity in the cationic polymerization of 1 , from which the thermal latent behavior of these salts also was confirmed (i.e., there was no reaction at 60 °C for 3 h, but there was a high enough conversion at 140 °C). Furthermore, the catalytic activity of S‐alkylsulfonium derivatives was controllable by both the property of the substituents on the aromatic rings and the character of the alkyl groups on the sulfur atom. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The cationic initiation activity of derivatives of S-methylsulfonium salts has been evaluated in the cationic polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether ( 1 ). These initiators are soluble in 1 and capable of initiating the cationic polymerization of 1 on heating, except for methyltetrahydrothiophenium tetrafluoroborate ( 6 ) (r.t. −160°C). Among them, methyldiphenylsulfonium tetrafluoroborate ( 4 ) shows moderate thermal latency, that is the polymerization of 1 occurs efficiently at 160°C but not below 80°C.  相似文献

Novel phosphates, Op‐(hydroxymethyl)benzyl O,O‐diethyl phosphate ( 1 ) and O‐(2‐bromoisobutyryloxymethyl)benzyl O,O‐diethyl phosphate ( 2 ) were synthesized by the reaction of diethyl phosphorochloridate with 1,4‐benzenedimethanol and the successive reaction with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide in the presence of triethylamine and submitted to the polymerization of ?‐caprolactone and methyl methacrylate as the initiators. They afforded phosphate end‐functional poly(?‐caprolactone) and poly(methyl methacrylate) with controlled molecular weights and polydispersity ratios by living ring‐opening polymerization and samarium‐induced polymerization. The polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) was carried out with the phosphate end‐functional polymers as the latent polymeric initiators in the presence of ZnCl2. The polymerization of GPE did not proceed below 90 °C, but it rapidly proceeded to afford poly(GPE) above the temperature. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this study, a series of urea‐derivatives of 4‐aminopyridine (4AP) were evaluated as thermally latent initiators for the anionic ring‐opening polymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). The urea‐derivatives were synthesized by the reactions of 4AP with the corresponding iso(thio)cyanates (phenyl isocyanate, tert‐butyl isocyanate, methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, and phenyl isothiocyanate). The ability of the urea‐derivatives as latent initiators was investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC): Upon heating formulations comprised of DGEBA and the urea‐derivatives in a heating rate at 10 °C/min, the resulting DSC profiles indicated exothermic peaks to confirm that DGEBA underwent the polymerization efficiently. The corresponding DSC‐peak top temperatures (Tpeak top) was higher than that observed for the formulation comprised of DGEBA and pristine 4AP, to clarify that the urea are useful initiators with thermal latency. A possible mechanism for the initiation step involves the thermal dissociation of the urea into 4AP and the corresponding isocyanates. 4AP thus generated readily initiated the ring‐opening polymerization of epoxide. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymerization of [S]‐lactide was accomplished using an initiating system comprising an alkyl zinc complex and a series of well defined carbohydrate co‐initiators derived from D ‐glucose, D ‐xylose, and 2‐deoxy‐D ‐ribose. The monosaccharide co‐initiators were aldonate esters and pyranoses, they were all prepared in high yield and had only a single alcohol co‐initiating group; the remaining carbohydrate hydroxyl functionalities were protected as acetyl, benzyl ether and isopropylidene acetal groups. The polymerizations were all well controlled, illustrated by the linear increase in poly(S‐lactide) Mn with percentage conversion of lactide, the increase in poly(S‐lactide) Mn with [lactide]0‐[lactide]t/[co‐initiator] and the narrow polydispersity indices of the polylactides. Thus, the novel initiating systems were used to produce poly(S‐lactides) end functionalized with a variety of different aldonate ester and pyranose groups and with degrees of polymerization from 10 to 250. The polyesters were fully characterized, including by NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), matrix‐assisted laser deposorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry and by static water contact angle measurements. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel phosphate monomer, Op‐(methacryloyloxymethyl)benzyl O,O‐diethyl phosphate (MDP) was synthesized by the reaction of diethyl phosphorochloridate with 1,4‐benzenedimethanol, followed by the reaction with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. The radical polymerization of MDP and copolymerization with methyl methacrylate were carried out in the presence of 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (3 mol %) in dimethylacetamide at 60 °C for 20 h to afford phosphate‐pendant polymers. The polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) was carried out with the phosphate‐pendant polymer as an initiator in the presence of ZnCl2. The polymerization did not proceed below 90 °C but rapidly proceeded above 90 °C to afford polyGPE. The phosphate‐pendant polymer served as a good thermally latent polymeric initiator. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 3365–3370, 2001  相似文献

Metal‐free controlled ring‐opening polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) was achieved using tetra‐n‐butylammonium fluoride (Bu4NF) as an initiator in the presence of water and ethanol as chain transfer agents (CTAs). Number‐averaged molecular weight of poly(GPE) increased with an increase of [GPE]0/([Bu4NF]0 + [CTA]0) values, showing relatively narrow molecular weight distributions. NMR spectroscopic analysis exhibited a formation of ethoxy groups as well as FCH2 at the initiating polymer chain‐end when ethanol was used as the CTA in the polymerization. These results indicate that Bu4NF acts as a catalyst as well as the initiator for this polymerization system. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were prepared by the regioselective addition reaction of glycidyl vinyl ether (GVE) or 1‐propenyl glycidyl ether with diaryl phosphonates with quaternary onium salts as catalysts. The reaction of GVE with bis(4‐chlorophenyl) phenylphosphonate gave bis[1‐(4‐chlorophenoxy methyl)‐2‐(vinyloxy)ethyl]phenylphosphonate in a 68% yield. The structures of the resulting phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were confirmed by IR and 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis. Photoinitiated cationic polymerizations of the resulting phosphorus‐containing vinyl ether monomers and 1‐propenyl ether monomers were investigated with photoacid generators. The polymerization of vinyl ether groups and 1‐propenyl ether groups of the obtained monomers proceeded very smoothly with a sulfonium‐type cationic photoinitiator, bis[4‐(diphenylsulfonio)phenyl]sulfide‐bis(hexafluorophosphate), upon UV irradiation. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A study of the photoinitiated and thermally initiated cationic polymerizations of several monomer systems with S,S‐dialkyl‐S‐(3,5‐dimethylhydroxyphenyl)sulfonium salt (HPS) photoinitiators bearing different lengths of alkyl chains on the positively charged sulfur atom has been conducted. HPS photoinitiators are capable of photoinitiating the cationic polymerization of a wide variety of epoxy and vinyl ether monomers directly on irradiation with short‐wavelength UV light. Aryl ketone photosensitizers are effective in extending the spectral response of these photoinitiators into the long‐wavelength UV region. Kinetic studies with real‐time infrared spectroscopy show that HPS photoinitiators exhibit good efficiency in the polymerization of epoxide and vinyl ether monomers. Comparative studies also demonstrate that S,S‐dimethyl‐S‐(3,5‐dimethyl‐2‐hydroxyphenyl)sulfonium salts are more active photoinitiators than their isomeric S,S‐dimethyl‐S‐(3,5‐dimethyl‐4‐hydroxyphenyl)sulfonium salt counterparts. Both types of HPS photoinitiators display reversible photolysis as a result of facile termination reactions that take place between the growing chains ends with the photogenerated sulfur ylides. Preliminary studies have shown that HPS photoinitiators can also be employed as thermal initiators for the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of epoxides at moderate temperatures. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(allyl glycidyl ether) and poly(allyl glycidyl ether‐co‐epichlorohydrin) were prepared by monomer‐activated anionic polymerization. Quantitative and controlled polymerization of allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) giving high molar mass polyether was achieved in a few hours at room temperature in toluene using tetraoctylammonium salt as initiator in presence of an excess of triisobutylaluminum ([i‐Bu3Al]/[NOct4Br] = 2?4). Following the same polymerization route, the copolymerization of AGE and epichlorohydrin yields in a living‐like manner gradient‐type copolymers with controlled molar masses. Chemical modification of the pendant allyl group into cyclic carbonate was then investigated and the corresponding polymers were used as precursors for the isocyanate‐free synthesis of polyurethane networks in presence of a diamine. Formation of crosslinked materials was followed and characterized by infrared and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Redox systems composed of a diaryliodonium or a triarylsulfonium salt together with a silane bearing Si? H groups were used for the in situ generation of strong Brønsted acids at room temperature in the presence of alkyl glycidyl ether monomers. Secondary oxiranium intermediates are generated with lifetimes from minutes to hours at room temperature. These systems undergo rapid, exothermic cationic chain polymerization when the temperature is raised. Metastable monomer‐redox initiator systems were also observed to undergo frontal polymerizations when a localized heat source is applied to the sample. The application of these delayed cationic ring‐opening polymerization systems for the development of one‐component structural adhesives that undergo rapid thermosetting at low temperatures are discussed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fluorine‐containing amphiphilic ABA triblock copolymers, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether)‐block‐poly[2‐(2,2,3,3,3‐pentafluoropropoxy)ethyl vinyl ether]‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether) [poly(HOVE‐b‐PFPOVE‐b‐HOVE)] (HFH), poly[2‐(2,2,3,3,3‐pentafluoropropoxy)ethyl vinyl ether]‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether)‐block‐poly[2‐(2,2,3,3,3‐pentafluoropropoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] [poly(PFPOVE‐b‐HOVE‐b‐PFPOVE)] (FHF), and poly(n‐butyl vinyl ether)‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl vinyl ether)‐block‐poly(n‐butyl vinyl ether) [poly(NBVE‐b‐HOVE‐b‐NBVE)] (LHL), were synthesized, and their behavior in water was investigated. The aforementioned polymers were prepared by sequential living cationic polymerization of 2‐acetoxyethyl vinyl ether (AcOVE) and PFPOVE or NBVE, followed by hydrolysis of acetyl groups in polyAcOVE. FHF and LHL formed a hydrogel in water, whereas HFH gave a homogeneous aqueous solution. In addition, the gel‐forming concentration of FHF was much lower than that of corresponding LHL. Surface‐tension measurements of the aqueous polymer solutions revealed that all the triblock copolymers synthesized formed micelles or aggregates above about 1.0 × 10?4 mol/L. The surface tensions of HFH and FHF solutions above the critical micelle concentration were lower than those of LHL, indicating high surface activity of fluorine‐containing triblock copolymers. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements revealed that HFH formed a core‐shell sperical micelle in 1 wt % aqueous solutions, whereas the other block copolymers caused more conplicated assembly in the solutions. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Application of chain‐growth condensation polymerization (CGCP) to obtain well‐defined polybenzoxazole (PBO) was examined. CGCP of both phenyl 3‐{(2‐methoxyethoxy)methoxy (MEM‐oxy)}‐4‐(octylamino)benzoate ( 1b ) (para‐substituted monomer) and phenyl 4‐MEM‐oxy‐3‐(octylamino)benzoate ( 3b ) (meta‐substituted monomer) was examined in the presence of metal disilazide base and phenyl 4‐nitro‐ or methylbenzoate 2 as an initiator. Polymerization of the latter monomer, but not the former, afforded polymer with controlled molecular weight based on the feed ratio of monomer to initiator and with a narrow molecular weight distribution. Accordingly, monomer 3c , in which the octyl group on the amino nitrogen of 3b was replaced with a 4‐(octyloxy)benzyl (OOB) group, was polymerized in the presence of lithium 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS), phenyl 4‐methylbenzoate ( 2b ), and LiCl in THF at 0 °C to yield poly 3c with well‐defined molecular weight (Mn = 4520–9080) and low polydispersity (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.11). Treatment of poly 3c with trifluoroacetic acid simultaneously removed the MEM and OOB groups, affording poly(o‐hydroxyamide) (poly 4 ) without scission of the amide linkages. Cyclodehydration of poly 4 proceeded at 350 °C to yield PBO (poly 5 ), which was insoluble in organic solvents and acids. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of cyclopentadiene (CPD)‐based polymers and copolymers were synthesized by a controlled cationic polymerization of CPD. End‐functionalized poly(CPD) was synthesized with the HCl adducts [initiator = CH3CH(OCH2CH2X)Cl; X = Cl ( 2a ), acetate ( 2b ), or methacrylate] of vinyl ethers carrying pendant functional substituents X in conjunction with SnCl4 (Lewis acid as a catalyst) and n‐Bu4NCl (as an additive) in dichloromethane at −78 °C. The system led to the controlled cationic polymerizations of CPD to give controlled α‐end‐functionalized poly(CPD)s with almost quantitative attachment of the functional groups (Fn ∼ 1). With the 2a or 2b /SnCl4/n‐Bu4NCl initiating systems, diblock copolymers of 2‐chloroethyl vinyl ether (CEVE) and 2‐acetoxyethyl vinyl ether with CPD were also synthesized by the sequential polymerization of CPD and these vinyl ethers. An ABA‐type triblock copolymer of CPD (A) and CEVE (B) was also prepared with a bifunctional initiator. The copolymerization of CPD and CEVE with 2a /SnCl4/n‐Bu4NCl afforded random copolymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.3–1.4). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well‐defined poly(3‐alkyl‐4‐benzamide) was synthesized by means of chain‐growth condensation polymerization of phenyl 3‐octyl‐4‐(4‐octyloxybenzyl(OOB)amino)benzoate ( 1c ) from initiator 2 , followed by removal of the OOB groups on amide nitrogen of poly 1c . Polymerization of 1c with phenyl 4‐(trifluoromethyl)benzoate ( 2b ) in the presence of 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS) and LiCl in THF at ?10 °C gave poly 1c with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.08) and a well‐defined molecular weight (Mn = 4480–12,700) determined by the feed ratio of monomer to initiator (from 10 to 30). The OOB groups of poly 1c were removed with H2SO4 to give the corresponding N‐unsubstituted poly(p‐benzamide) (poly 1c′ ) with low polydispersity. The solublity of poly 1c′ in polar organic solvents was dramatically higher than that of poly(p‐benzamide), demonstrating that introduction of an alkyl group on the aromatic ring is very effective for improving the solubility of poly(p‐benzamide). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, the ability of two‐component photoinitiator systems for efficient polymerization of 2‐ethyl‐2‐(hydroxymethyl)?1,3‐propanediol triacrylate was presented. The photophysics and photochemistry of squaraine dyes in the presence of an electron donor as well as an electron acceptor was investigated, and it was found that the photosensitizer in an excited state might act as an electron acceptor or an electron donor. The excited states of squaraines may be quenched by tetramethylammonium n‐butyltriphenylborate ( B2 ), diphenyliodonium chloride ( I1 ), and N‐methoxy‐4‐phenylpyridinium tetrafluoroborate ( NO ). © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The isomerization polymerization of three alkyl glycidyl carbonates (4), i.e., glycidyl methyl carbonate (4a), ethyl glycidyl carbonate (4b), and glycidyl propyl carbonate (4c), catalyzed by methylaluminum bis(2,6‐di‐t‐butyl‐4‐methylphenoxide) (3) to afford novel poly(orthocarbonate)s, poly[(2‐alkoxy‐1,3‐dioxolane‐2,4‐diyl)oxymethylene]s (5a–c), is described. The polymerization proceeded best at around room temperature and gave 5 having several thousands of Mn. As the alkoxy chain of 4 was lengthened, the polymer yield decreased, while the polymer molecular weight increased. The yields of 5b and 5c, however, were improved by increasing the feed ratio of 3 to 4 from 0.04 to 0.10. The reactivity of 4 was discussed in relation to that of glycidyl alkanoates (1). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 445–453, 1999 (See graphics.)  相似文献

Diblock copolymers consisting of a multibranched polymethacrylate segment with densely grafted poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] pendants and a poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) segment were synthesized by a combination of living cationic polymerization and RAFT polymerization. A macromonomer having both a poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] backbone and a terminal methacryloyl group was synthesized by living cationic polymerization. The sequential RAFT copolymerizations of the macromonomer and N‐isopropylacrylamide in this order were performed in aqueous media employing 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate as a chain transfer agent and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoic acid) as an initiator. The obtained diblock copolymers possessed relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and controlled molecular weights. The thermoresponsive properties of these polymers were investigated. Upon heating, the aqueous solutions of the diblock copolymers exhibited two‐stage thermoresponsive properties denoted by the appearance of two cloud points, indicating that the densely grafted poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] pendants and the poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) segments independently responded to temperature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined triblock terpolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(allyl glycidyl ether)‐block‐poly(tert‐butyl glycidyl ether) (PEG‐b‐PAGE‐b‐Pt‐BGE), with a narrow molar mass distribution has been synthesized by sequential living anionic ring‐opening polymerization. Afterward, the PAGE block was modified via thiol‐ene chemistry and different sugar moieties or cysteine as a model compound for peptides could be covalently attached to the polymer backbone. The solution self‐assembly of the obtained bis‐hydrophilic triblock terpolymers in aqueous media has been studied in detail by turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM and cryo‐TEM). © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a new diamine monomer, Nn‐butyl 3,12‐diamino‐5,6,9,10‐tetrahydro[5]helicene‐7,8‐dicarboxylic imide (4), that contains a helically locked, U‐shaped 4′,4″‐o‐terphenyl moiety is described. The monomer was polymerized with 3,3′,4,4′‐oxydiphthalic dianhydride and 2,2‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane to form a series of copoly(ether imide)s (5a–e). The incorporation of 4 into the poly(ether imide)s varied the glass‐transition temperature of the copolymers of which it was a part. There was a tendency to form macrocyclic materials at higher molar percentages of 4 during polymerization. The fluorescence of all the copoly(ether imide)s gradually decreased as the content derived from monomer 4 increased in the polymer. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
