We present a new method for computing the recurrence spectra of n≈40, m=0 lithium Rydberg atoms in strong parallel external electric and magnetic fields. This method is based on an extended closed-orbit theory allowing the computation of the scattering of the electron by the ionic core. We pay particular attention to the scaling properties, which are extremely important for understanding the correspondence between classical and quantum mechanics. The spectra with a constant scaled electric field \tilde F=0.01 and a scaled energy ε=-0.03 are recorded and compared with those of hydrogen obtained by the standard closed-orbit theory. The result shows that the additional strong resonance structures can be interpreted in terms of the core-scattered classical closed orbits.  相似文献

利用半经典方法研究了平行电磁场中里德堡氢原子的分形自相似现象. 通过研究平行电磁场中里德堡氢原子的逃逸时间和初始出射角间的关系, 发现了逃逸时间图的自相似结构, 并通过研究与图中冰柱对应的逃逸轨道, 得到了自相似结构和逃逸轨道之间的关系, 发现了该类自相似逃逸轨道满足的规律. 进一步研究了标度能量和标度磁场对体系动力学的影响, 表明标度能量和标度磁场均控制体系的分形自相似结构. 当标度能量或标度磁场比较小时, 没有自相似现象, 随着标度能量或标度磁场的增大, 自相似出现, 体系变复杂.  相似文献

The experimental evidence for the Pauli quantization obeyed by the Rydberg spectrum of rubidium, in crossed electric and magnetic fields, is reported. When the external field perturbation associated with Zeeman and linear Stark effects are of the same order but small compared to the Coulomb binding energy, the energy levels of the system are given by En,k = -R/n2 + ɡK (ω2L + ω2E)12, where K is an integer ωL, ωE the Larmor and linear Stark frequencies respectively.  相似文献

Cold Rydberg atoms exposed to strong magnetic fields possess unique properties which open the pathway for an intriguing many-body dynamics taking place in Rydberg gases, consisting of either matter or anti-matter systems. We review both the foundations and recent developments of the field in the cold and ultracold regime where trapping and cooling of Rydberg atoms have become possible. Exotic states of moving Rydberg atoms, such as giant dipole states, are discussed in detail, including their formation mechanisms in a strongly magnetized cold plasma. Inhomogeneous field configurations influence the electronic structure of Rydberg atoms, and we describe the utility of corresponding effects for achieving tightly trapped ultracold Rydberg atoms. We review recent work on large, extended cold Rydberg gases in magnetic fields and their formation in strongly magnetized ultracold plasmas through collisional recombination. Implications of these results for current antihydrogen production experiments are pointed out, and techniques for the trapping and cooling of such atoms are investigated.  相似文献

Argon atoms in Stark states at n approximately 25 have been decelerated and accelerated in inhomogeneous electric fields. The acceleration and deceleration behavior can be understood only by considering the adiabatic Landau-Zener dynamics that take place at the avoided crossings between the Stark states and the limited fluorescence lifetimes of approximately 10 micros.  相似文献

The scaling properties of various composite information-theoretic measures (Shannon and Rényi entropy sums, Fisher and Onicescu information products, Tsallis entropy ratio, Fisher-Shannon product and shape complexity) are studied in position and momentum spaces for the non-relativistic hydrogenic atoms in the presence of parallel magnetic and electric fields. Such measures are found to be invariant at the fixed values of the scaling parameters given by and . Numerical results which support the validity of the scaling properties are shown by choosing the representative example of the position space shape complexity. Physical significance of the resulting scaling behavior is discussed.  相似文献

We report on the experimental spectral observations of barium in parallel electric and magnetic fields. The laser pulse is linearly polarized along or perpendicular to the fields, leading to the states m = 0 and the states m = -t-1 populated, respectively, by one photon excitation. By sweeping the electric field, we observe the linear and nonlinear splitting of the diamagnetic spectrum as the electric field increases. The spectral anticrossing is induced by the atomic core effect. The Stark spectrum also shows an obvious nonlinear quadratic behavior when the applied magnetic field varies strongly. All spectra are well explained by the full quantum calculation after taking the quantum defect effects of the channel ns up to nf into account.  相似文献

We present some of the more striking experimental aspects of the quasi-Landau atomic spectrum in a magnetic field, observed near and above the zero field ionization threshold. Laser cooling and trapping offers the possibility of confining a sample of radioactive atoms in free space. Here, we address the question of how best to take advantage of cold atom properties to perform the observation of as highly forbidden a line as the 6S-7S Cs transition for achieving, in the longer term, atomic parity violation (APV) measurements in radioactive alkali isotopes. Another point at issue is whether one might do better with stable, cold atoms than with thermal atoms. To compensate for the large drawback of the small number of atoms available in a trap, one must take advantage of their low velocity. To lengthen the time of interaction with the excitation laser, we suggest choosing a geometry where the laser beam exciting the transition is colinear to a slow, cold atomic beam, either extracted from a trap or prepared by Zeeman slowing. We also suggest a new observable physical quantity manifesting APV, which presents several advantages: specificity, efficiency of detection, possibility of direct calibration by a parity conserving quantity of a similar nature. It is well adapted to a configuration where the cold atomic beam passes through two regions of transverse, crossed electric fields, leading both to differential measurements and to strong reduction of the contributions from the M1-Stark interference signals, potential sources of systematics in APV measurements. Our evaluation of signal-to-noise ratios shows that with available techniques, measurements of transition amplitudes, important as required tests of atomic theory, should be possible in 133Cs with a statistical precision of 10-3 and probably also in Fr isotopes for production rates of Fr atoms s-1. This paper presents recurrence spectra of highly excited lithium atoms with M = 1 state in parallel electric and magnetic fields at a fixed scaled energy ε = -0.03. Short-ranged potentials including ionic core potential and centrifugal barrier are taken into account. Their effects on the states and photo-absorption spectrum are analysed in detail. This demonstrates that the geometric features of classical orbits are of special importance for modulations of the spectral pattern. Thus the weak polarization as well as the reduction of correlation of electrons induced by short-ranged potentials give rise to the recurrence spectra of lithium M = 1 atoms more compact than that of the M = 0 one, which is in good agreement with the experimental prediction.  相似文献

A semiclassical theory is developed for the ionization of atoms and negative ions in constant, uniform electric and magnetic fields, including the Coulomb interaction between the electron and the atomic core during tunneling. The case of crossed fields (Lorentz ionization) is examined specially, as well as the limit of a strong magnetic field. Analytic equations are derived for arbitrary fields ℰ and ℋ that are weak compared to the characteristic intraatomic fields. The major results of this paper are obtained using the “imaginary time” method (ITM), in which tunneling is described using the classical equations of motion but with purely imaginary “time.” The possibility of generalizing the ITM to the relativistic case, as well as to states with nonzero angular momentum, is pointed out.
