The results are given of the identification of the known pyranocoumarin campestrinol (I), and the structures of four new coumarin derivatives have been studied — tortuosin (II), tortuosinin (III), tortuosinol (IV), and tortuosidin (V). New analogs of fragment 113–121 of the basic protein of myelin were synthesized: Phe-Ser-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg, in which the phenylalanine in the first position has been replaced by L-alanine (V) and by D-phenylalanine (IX), and also a shortened analog with the deletion of the serine in the second position (XIII) and a lengthened analog with the insertion of glycine between the phenylalanine and tryptophan (XVII). In experiments on guinea pigs, one of the compounds obtained exhibited encephalitogenic activity. V-P/Si02 samples obtained by impregnation and grafting with different contents of vanadium and phosphorus have been studied by ESR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and fine-structure x-ray absorption (FSXA). It is shown that, independent of the method of synthesis, the vanadium concentration and the P/V ratio, the surface region of the carrier consists of a crystalline - VOPO4 phase with a low concentration of V4+ ions.L. The class compositions of the lipids of leaf vegetables —Spinacea oleracea (variety Ispolinskii),Latuca sativa (variety Kucheryavets Odesskii), andRumex acetosa (variety Odesskii-17) have been studied. The compositions of their NLs (17 groups of individual compounds were identified), GLs (nine groups of compounds were found), and PhLs (seven groups of compounds have been found) have been determined by physicochemical methods of analysis. The maximum amount of the total lipids and also of the PhLs was possessed by the spinach. Among the FAs of the leaf vegetables, USFAs predominated.M. V. X-ray structure analysis shows that irradiating gelatin films containing chromates causes a spiral-coil transition in the denatured collagen molecules. The concentration and type of the chromate have substantial effects, as do the film preparation conditions. The x-ray diffraction and ESR data indicate that chromium(V) compounds formed by photoreduction from chromium(VI) ones are mainly responsible for the conformation transition. In the absence of chromium compounds, light absorbed by the gelatin macromolecules results in macroradicals on account of the photolysis in the denatured protein chains. A new affinity sorbent has been synthesized — soybean trypsin inhibitor (STI)-amylopectin-hydrazidosuccinyl-Sepharose — and its properties have been studied in comparison with those of an analogous adsorbent without the spacer STI-Sepharose. Summary 1. The vanadylporphyrin complexes of the petroleum oils of the Buzachi peninsula have been studied by the ESR method and spectrophotometrically. The ESR spectra of the cation-radicals of 4-substituted 3,5-diacetyl-1,2,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydropyridines were generated electrochemically by oxidation in acetonitrile at –40°C. The unpaired electron distribution in the cation-radicals was established by analysis of the hyperfine structure of the ESR spectra. It was found that the size of the electrochemical oxidation potential of the compounds and the unpaired electron distribution in the cation-radical were subject to the inductive effect of the substituents in positions 3 and 5 of the heterocycle.Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Riga LV-1006. A number of copper complexes have been synthesized with 14–18-membered tetraaza macrocyclic ligands having six methyl groups and two double bonds located in the cis position relative to the metal ion. These compounds have been investigated by means of ESR spectrometry and electronic and IR spectroscopy. It has been shown that the size of the macroring does not have any great influence on the magnitudes of the spectral parameters. The composition and amounts of the various groups of liposoluble compounds in the rind and flesh of persimmon fruit of the varieties Hachiya and Hyakume have been established by a combination of chromatographic and chemical methods. The identity of the qualitative composition of the lipids of the flesh and rind of the fruit and quantitative differences in the amounts of individual groups have been found. A total of 24 groups of compounds were identified, the main ones of which were monogalactosyldiglycerides, carotenoids, diacylglycerols, ceramide oligosides, digalactosyldiglycerides, phosphatidylglycerols; phosphatidylcholines, and free and glycosylated sterols. In the fatty acid composition of the lipids unsaturated fatty acids — linolenic, oleic, linoleic, and palmitoleic — predominated (>70%).M. V.
