Let G be a finite group, a normal subgroup, p a prime, a finite splitting field of characteristic p for G and We prove that is a splitting field for N, using the action of the Galois group of the field extension on the irreducible representations of N. We study the first eigenfunction 1 of the Dirichlet Laplacian on a convex domain in Euclidean space. Elementary properties of Bessel functions yield that if D is a sector in Euclidean plane with area 1 and the angle tends to 0. A d-web in ( ,0) is given by d complex analytic foliations of codimension one in ( ,0) which are in general position. A d-web in ( ,0) is linear if all the leaves are (pieces of) hyperplanes in and is algebraic if it is associated, by duality, to a nondegenerate algebraic curve in of degree d. We characterize linear webs in ( ,0). We give explicit conditions under which a linear d-web in ( ,0) is algebraic and we obtain equations for in this case. Summary. We establish the following Helly-type result for infinite families of starshaped sets in Define the function f on {1, 2} by f(1) = 4, f(2) = 3. Let be a fixed positive number, and let be a uniformly bounded family of compact sets in the plane. For k = 1, 2, if every f(k) (not necessarily distinct) members of intersect in a starshaped set whose kernel contains a k-dimensional neighborhood of radius , then is a starshaped set whose kernel is at least k-dimensional. The number f(k) is best in each case. In addition, we present a few results concerning the dimension of the kernel in an intersection of starshaped sets in Some of these involve finite families of sets, while others involve infinite families and make use of the Hausdorff metric.  相似文献

Summary We consider simple random walk onZ d perturbed by a factor exp[T –P J T], whereT is the length of the walk and . Forp=1 and dimensionsd2, we prove that this walk behaves diffusively for all – < <0, with 0 > 0. Ford>2 the diffusion constant is equal to 1, but ford=2 it is renormalized. Ford=1 andp=3/2, we prove diffusion for all real (positive or negative). Ford>2 the scaling limit is Brownian motion, but ford2 it is the Edwards model (with the wrong sign of the coupling when >0) which governs the limiting behaviour; the latter arises since for ,T –p J T is the discrete self-intersection local time. This establishes existence of a diffusive phase for this model. Existence of a collapsed phase for a very closely related model has been proven in work of Bolthausen and Schmock.  相似文献
