Membrane separation of CO2 from natural gas, biogas, synthesis gas, and flu gas is a simple and energy‐efficient alternative to other separation techniques. But results for CO2‐selective permeance have always been achieved by randomly oriented and thick zeolite membranes. Thin, oriented membranes have great potential to realize high‐flux and high‐selectivity separation of mixtures at low energy cost. We now report a facile method for preparing silica MFI membranes in fluoride media on a graded alumina support. In the resulting membrane straight channels are uniformly vertically aligned and the membrane has a thickness of 0.5 μm. The membrane showed a separation selectivity of 109 for CO2/H2 mixtures and a CO2 permeance of 51×10?7 mol m?2 s?1 Pa?1 at ?35 °C, making it promising for practical CO2 separation from mixtures.  相似文献

Faujasite-type zeolite membranes were reproducibly synthesized by hydrothermal reaction on the outer surface of a porous α-alumina support tube of 30 or 200 mm in length. The membrane properties were evaluated by CO2 separation from an equimolar mixture of CO2 and N2 at a permeation temperature of 40°C. CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity of the NaY-type membranes were in the ranges of 0.4×10−6–2.5×10−6 mol m−2 s−1 Pa−1 and 20–50, respectively. The NaY-type membranes were ion-exchanged with alkali and alkaline earth cations. The LiY-type membrane showed the highest N2 permeance and the lowest CO2/N2 selectivity. The KY-type membrane gave the highest CO2/N2 selectivity. The NaY-type membrane was stable against exposure to air at 400°C. NaX-type zeolite membranes, formed by decreasing the ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 in the starting solution, exhibited lower CO2 permeances and higher CO2/N2 selectivities than those of the NaY-type zeolite membranes.  相似文献

Greatly improved zeolite membranes were prepared by using high‐aspect‐ratio zeolite seeds. Slice‐shaped seeds with a high aspect ratio (AR) facilitated growth of thinner continuous SAPO‐34 membranes of much higher quality. These membranes showed N2 permeances as high as (2.87±0.15)×10?7 mol m?2 s?1 Pa?1 at 22 °C while maintaining a decent N2/CH4 selectivity (9–11.2 for equimolar mixture). On the basis of these thinner high‐quality SAPO‐34 membranes, fine‐tuning the local crystal structure by incorporating more silicon further increased the N2 permeance by 1.4 times without sacrificing the N2/CH4 selectivity. We expect that application of large AR zeolite seeds might be a viable strategy to grow thin high‐quality zeolite membranes. In addition, fine‐tuning of the crystal structure by changing the crystal composition might be a feasible way for further improving the separating performance of high‐quality zeolite membranes.  相似文献

Continuous microporous membranes are widely studied for gas separation, due to their low energy premium and strong molecular specificity. Porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) with their exceptional stability and structural flexibility are suited to a wide range of separations. Main-stream PAF-based membranes are usually prepared with polymeric matrices, but their discrete entities and boundary defects weaken their selectivity and permeability. The synthesis of continuous PAF membranes is still a major challenge because PAFs are insoluble. Herein, we successfully synthesized a continuous PAF membrane for gas separation. Both pore size and chemistry of the PAF membrane were modified by ion-exchange, resulting in good selectivity and permeance for the gas mixtures H2/N2 and CO2/N2. The membrane with Br? as a counter ion in the framework exhibited a H2/N2 selectivity of 72.7 with a H2 permeance of 51844 gas permeation units (GPU). When the counter ions were replaced by BF4?, the membrane showed a CO2 permeance of 23058 GPU, and an optimized CO2/N2 selectivity of 60.0. Our results show that continuous PAF membranes with modifiable pores are promising for various gas separation situations.  相似文献

Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs)‐based membranes have shown great potentials as applications in gas separation. In this work, a uniform membrane based on 2D MOF Ni3(HITP)2 (HITP=2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexaaminotriphenylene) was fabricated on ordered macroporous AAO via the filtration method. To fabricate the membrane, we obtained the Ni3(HITP)2 nanosheets as building blocks via a soft‐physical exfoliation method successfully that were confirmed by AFM and TEM. We also studied the H2, CO2 and N2 adsorption isotherms of Ni3(HITP)2 powder at room temperature, which shows Ni3(HITP)2 has high heats of adsorption for CO2 and high selectivity of CO2 over N2. Gas permeation tests indicate that the Ni3(HITP)2 membrane shows high permeance and selectivity of CO2 over N2, as well as good selectivity of H2 over N2. The ideal separation factors of CO2/N2 and H2/N2 from sing‐gas permeances are 13.6 and 7.8 respectively, with CO2 permeance of 3.15×10?6 mol?m?2?s?1?Pa?1. The membrane also showed good stability, durability and reproducibility, which are of potential interest for practical applications in the CO2 separations.  相似文献

Fixed‐site–carrier membranes were prepared for the facilitated transport of CO2 by casting polyvinylamine (PVAm) on various supports, such as poly(ether sulfone) (PES), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), cellulose acetate (CA), and polysulfone (PSO). The cast PVAm on the support was crosslinked by various methods with glutaraldehyde, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and ammonium fluoride. Among the membranes tested, the PVAm cast on polysulfone and crosslinked by ammonium fluoride showed the highest selectivity of CO2 over CH4 (>1000). The permeance of CO2 was then measured to be 0.014 m3 (STP)/(m2 bar h) for a 20 μm thick membrane. The effect of the molecular weight of PVAm and feed pressure on the permeance was also investigated. The selectivity increased remarkably with increasing molecular weight and decreased slightly with increased pressure in the range of 1 to 4 bar.

Composite hollow fibers membranes were prepared by coating poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) and polysulfone (PSf) hollow fibers with high molecular polyvinylamine (PVAm). Two procedures of coating hollow fibers outside and respective inside were investigated with respect to intrinsic PVAm solution properties and hollow fibers geometry and material. The influence of operating mode (sweep or vacuum) on the performances of membranes was investigated. Vacuum operating mode gave better results than using sweep because part of the sweep gas permeated into feed and induced an extra resistance to the most permeable gas the CO2. The composite PVAm/PSf HF membranes having a 0.7–1.5 μm PVAm selective layer, showed CO2/N2 selectivity between 100 and 230. The selectivity was attributed to the CO2 facilitated transport imposed by PVAm selective layer. The CO2 permeance changed from 0.006 to 0.022 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) in direct correlation with CO2 permeance and separation mechanism of the individual porous supports used for membrane fabrication. The multilayer PVAm/PPO membrane using as support PPO hollow fibers with a 40 nm PPO dense skin layer, surprisingly presented an increase in selectivity with the increase in CO2 partial pressure. This trend was opposite to the facilitated transport characteristic behaviour of PVAm/porous PSf. This indicated that PVAm/PPO membrane represents a new membrane, with new properties and a hybrid mechanism, extremely stable at high pressure ratios. The CO2/N2 selectivity ranged between 20 and 500 and the CO2 permeance from 0.11 to 2.3 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) depending on the operating conditions. For both PVAm/PSf and PVAm/PPO membranes, the CO2 permeance was similar with the CO2 permeance of uncoated hollow fiber supports, confirming that the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step resides in the properties of the relatively thick support, not at the level of 1.2 μm thin and water swollen PVAm selective layer. A dynamic transfer of the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step between PVAm top layer and PPO support was observed by changing the feed relative humidity (RH%). The CO2 diffusion rate was controlled by the PPO support when using humid feed. At low feed humidity the 1.2 μm PVAm top layer becomes the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step.  相似文献

Metal–organic framework (MOF) materials have an enormous potential in separation applications, but to realize their potential as semipermeable membranes they need to be assembled into thin continuous macroscopic films for fabrication into devices. By using a facile immersion technique, we prepared ultrathin, continuous zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8) membranes on titania‐functionalized porous polymeric supports. The coherent ZIF‐8 layer was surprisingly flexible and adhered well to the support, and the composite membrane could sustain bending and elongation. The membranes exhibited molecular sieving behavior, close to the theoretical permeability of ZIF‐8, with hydrogen permeance up to 201×10?7 mol m?2 s?1 Pa?1 and an ideal H2/CO2 selectivity of 7:1. This approach offers significant opportunities to exploit the unique properties of MOFs in the fabrication of separation and sensing devices.  相似文献

Achieving high membrane performance in terms of gas permeance and carbon dioxide selectivity is an important target in carbon capture. Aiming to manipulate the channel affinity towards CO2 to implement efficient separations, gas separation membranes containing CO2‐philic and non‐CO2‐philic nanodomains in the interlayer channels of graphene oxide (GO) were formed by intercalating poly(ethylene glycol) diamines (PEGDA). PEGDA reacts with epoxy groups on the GO surface, constructing CO2‐philic nanodomains and rendering a high sorption capacity, whereas unreacted GO surfaces give non‐CO2‐philic nanodomains, rendering low‐friction diffusion. Owing to the orderly stacking of nanochannels through cross‐linking and the heterogeneous nanodomains with moderate CO2 affinity, a GO‐PEGDA500 membrane exhibits a high CO2 permeance of 175.5 GPU and a CO2/CH4 selectivity of 69.5, which is the highest performance reported for dry‐state GO‐stacking membranes.  相似文献

Two-dimensional (2D) metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes are considered potential gas separation membranes of the next generation due to their structural diversity and geometrical functionality. However, achieving a rational structure design for a 2D MOF membrane and understanding the impact of MOF nanosheet stacking modes on membrane separation performance remain challenging tasks. Here, we report a novel kind of 2D MOF membrane based on [Cu2Br(IN)2]n (IN=isonicotinato) nanosheets and propose that synergetic stacking modes of nanosheets have a significant influence on gas separation performance. The stacking of the 2D MOF nanosheets is controlled by solvent droplet dynamic behaviors at different temperatures of drop coating. Our 2D MOF nanosheet membranes exhibit high gas separation performances for H2/CH4 (selectivity >290 with H2 permeance >520 GPU) and H2/CO2 (selectivity >190 with H2 permeance >590 GPU) surpassing the Robeson upper bounds, paving a potential way for eco-friendly H2 separation.  相似文献

A novel crystalline nano cellulose (CNC) and polyvinyl amine (PVAm) based nanocomposite membranes were synthesized and evaluated for biogas upgrading. Different concentrations of CNC was incorporated in 3 wt % PVAm solution on commercial polysulfone (PSf) sheet using dip coating method. The effect of feed pressure (5, 10 and 15 bar) was investigated for the CO2/CH4 separation. The incorporation of CNC increased the crystallinity of membranes. The thickness of selective layer enhanced to 2.16 μm from 1.5 μm with increasing concentration of CNC. However, degree of swelling reduced from 75.88% to 68.93 with CNC concentration at 1.5 wt%. The best results were shown by PVAm membrane with 1 wt % CNC concentration i.e. CO2 permeance of 0.0216 m3(STP)/m2.bar.hr and selectivity (CO2/CH4) of 41.The permeance decreased approximately 1.8 folds for PVAm/1CNC membrane with the increase in pressure from 5 to 15 bar. However, selectivity dropped from 41 to 39 for formulated membranes.  相似文献

An amine‐appended hierarchical Ca‐A zeolite that can selectively capture CO2 was synthesized and incorporated into inexpensive membrane polymers, in particular polyethylene oxide and Matrimid, to design mixed‐matrix membranes with high CO2/CH4 selectivities. Binary mixture permeation testing reveals that amine‐appended mesoporous Ca‐A is highly effective in improving CO2/CH4 selectivity of polymeric membranes. In particular, the CO2/CH4 selectivity of the polyethylene oxide membrane increases from 15 to 23 by incorporating 20 wt % amine‐appended Ca‐A zeolite. Furthermore, the formation of filler/polymer interfacial defects, which is typically found in glassy polymer‐zeolite pairs, is inhibited owing to the interaction between the amine groups on the external surface of zeolites and polymer chains. Our results suggest that the amine‐appended hierarchial Ca‐A, which was utilized in membrane fabrication for the first time, is a good filler material for fabricating a CO2‐selective mixed‐matrix membrane with defect‐free morphology.  相似文献

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are attractive candidates for advanced water‐treatment membranes owing to their high porosity and well‐organized channel structures. Herein, the continuous two‐dimensional imine‐linked COF‐LZU1 membrane with a thickness of only 400 nm was prepared on alumina tubes by in situ solvothermal synthesis. The membrane shows excellent water permeance (ca. 760 L m?2 h?1 MPa?1) and favorable rejection rates exceeding 90 % for water‐soluble dyes larger than 1.2 nm. The water permeance through the COF‐LZU1 membrane is much higher than that of most membranes with similar rejection rates. Long‐time operation demonstrates the outstanding stability of the COF‐LZU1 membrane. As the membrane has no selectivity for hydrated salt ions (selectivity <12 %), it is also suitable for the purification of dye products from saline solutions. The excellent performance and the outstanding water stability render the COF‐LZU1 membrane an interesting system for water purification.  相似文献

Single gas and mixture permeances of CO2 and CH4 were measured as functions of pressure and temperature through three MFI zeolite membranes that have different fractions of their permeances through non-zeolite pores. The effect of pressure on CO2 permeance, which was different for each membrane, was fit by a modified surface diffusion model. The differences in the pressure behavior of the membranes are attributed to pores with viscous and Knudsen flow. Membranes with the largest permeation through non-zeolite pores have the lowest CO2/CH4 mixture selectivity. The highest CO2/CH4 mixture selectivity is 5.5 at room temperature and decreases with temperature because of a decrease in competitive adsorption. Although increasing pressure at constant pressure drop increases the apparent CO2/CH4 selectivity, the ratio of the CO2 and CH4 fluxes decreases.  相似文献

The permeation of CO2 and CH4 and their binary mixtures through a DDR membrane has been investigated over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The synthesized DDR membrane exhibits a high permeance and maintains a very high selectivity for CO2. At a total pressure of 101 kPa, the highest selectivity for CO2 in a 50∶50 feed mixture was found to be over 4000 at 225 K. This is ascribed to the higher adsorption affinity, as well as to the higher mobility for the smaller CO2 molecules in the zeolite, preventing the bypassing of the CH4 through the membrane. An engineering model, based on the generalized Maxwell-Stefan equations, has been used to interpret the transport phenomena in the membrane. The feasibility of DDR membranes as applied to CO2 removal from natural gas or biogas is anticipated.  相似文献

In this study, we report the gas permeance and selectivity of the asymmetric polyimide membrane prepared by plasma‐based ion implantation (PBII). The asymmetric polyimide membranes were prepared using a dry–wet phase inversion process, and the surface skin layer on the membrane was implantated by He ions at 2.5 keV. The asymmetric membranes treated by PBII were measured using a high vacuum apparatus with a Baratron absolute pressure gauge at 76 cmHg and 35°C. The (O2/N2) and (CO2/CH4) selectivities in the He+‐implanted asymmetric membrane at 60 sec resulted in 1.5 and 1.8 time increases, respectively, when compared to those of the asymmetric membrane before PBII. On the other hand, the O2 and CO2 permeances in the asymmetric membrane after PBII decreased with an increase in the He+ treatment time. In this paper, we addressed, for the first time, the gas permeation behavior of the asymmetric polyimide membranes prepared by PBII. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study a thin film composite (TFC) membrane with a Pebax/Task-specific ionic liquid (TSIL) blend selective layer was prepared. Defect-free Pebax/TSIL layers were coated successfully on a polysulfone ultrafiltration porous support with a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) gutter layer. Different parameters in the membrane preparation (e.g. concentration, coating time) were investigated and optimized. The morphology of the membranes was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the thermal properties and chemical structures of the membrane materials were investigated by thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The CO2 separation performance of the membrane was evaluated using a mixed gas permeation test. Experimental results show that the incorporation of TSIL into the Pebax matrix can significantly increase both CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity. With the presence of water vapor, the membrane exhibits the best CO2/N2 selectivity at a relative humidity of around 75%, where a CO2 permeance of around 500 GPU and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 46 were documented. A further increase in the relative humidity resulted in higher CO2 permeance but decreased CO2/N2 selectivity. Experiments also show that CO2 permeance decreases with a CO2 partial pressure increase, which is considered a characteristic in facilitated transport membranes.  相似文献
