We consider the problem of two‐dimensional supersonic flow onto a solid wedge, or equivalently in a concave corner formed by two solid walls. For mild corners, there are two possible steady state solutions, one with a strong and one with a weak shock emanating from the corner. The weak shock is observed in supersonic flights. A longstanding natural conjecture is that the strong shock is unstable in some sense. We resolve this issue by showing that a sharp wedge will eventually produce weak shocks at the tip when accelerated to a supersonic speed. More precisely, we prove that for upstream state as initial data in the entire domain, the time‐dependent solution is self‐similar, with a weak shock at the tip of the wedge. We construct analytic solutions for self‐similar potential flow, both isothermal and isentropic with arbitrary γ ≥ 1. In the process of constructing the self‐similar solution, we develop a large number of theoretical tools for these elliptic regions. These tools allow us to establish large‐data results rather than a small perturbation. We show that the wave pattern persists as long as the weak shock is supersonic‐supersonic; when this is no longer true, numerics show a physical change of behavior. In addition, we obtain rather detailed information about the elliptic region, including analyticity as well as bounds for velocity components and shock tangents. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We investigate a initial‐boundary value problem for the nonlinear beam equation with variable coefficients on the action of a linear internal damping. We show the existence of a unique global weak solution and that the energy associated with this solution has a rate decay estimate. Besides, we prove the existence and uniqueness of non‐local strong solutions. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, we discuss some limit analysis of a viscous capillary model of plasma, which is expressed as a so‐called the compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson‐Korteweg equation. First, the existence of global smooth solutions for the initial value problem to the compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson‐Korteweg equation with a given Debye length λ and a given capillary coefficient κ is obtained. We also show the uniform estimates of global smooth solutions with respect to the Debye length λ and the capillary coefficient κ. Then, from Aubin lemma, we show that the unique smooth solution of the 3‐dimensional Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson‐Korteweg equations converges globally in time to the strong solution of the corresponding limit equations, as λ tends to zero, κ tends to zero, and λ and κ simultaneously tend to zero. Moreover, we also give the convergence rates of these limits for any given positive time one by one.  相似文献

We consider the initial‐boundary value problem for a model of motion of aqueous polymer solutions in a bounded three‐dimensional domain subject to the Navier slip boundary condition. We construct a global (in time) weak solution to this problem. Moreover, we establish some uniqueness results, assuming additional regularity for weak solutions. We prove existence, uniqueness, regularity and smooth dependence of the weak solution on the initial data for a semilinear, first order, dissipative hyperbolic system with discontinuous coefficients. Such hyperbolic systems have successfully been used to model the dynamics of distributed feedback multisection semiconductor lasers. We show that in a function space of continuous functions the weak solutions generate a smooth skew product semiflow. Using slow fast structure and dissipativity we prove the existence of smooth exponentially attracting invariant centre manifolds for the non‐autonomous model. In this study, we consider a viscous compressible model of plasma and semiconductors, which is expressed as a compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation. We prove that there exists a strong solution to the boundary value problem of the steady compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation with large external forces in bounded domain, provided that the ratio of the electron/ions mass is appropriately small. Moreover, the zero‐electron‐mass limit of the strong solutions is rigorously verified. The main idea in the proof is to split the original equation into 4 parts, a system of stationary incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations with large forces, a system of stationary compressible Navier‐Stokes equations with small forces, coupled with 2 Poisson equations. Based on the known results about linear incompressible Navier‐Stokes equation, linear compressible Navier‐Stokes, linear transport, and Poisson equations, we try to establish uniform in the ratio of the electron/ions mass a priori estimates. Further, using Schauder fixed point theorem, we can show the existence of a strong solution to the boundary value problem of the steady compressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equation with large external forces. At the same time, from the uniform a priori estimates, we present the zero‐electron‐mass limit of the strong solutions, which converge to the solutions of the corresponding incompressible Navier‐Stokes‐Poisson equations.  相似文献

We consider a mathematical model for an incompressible Newtonian fluid with intrinsic degrees of freedom in a smooth bounded domain. We first show that there exists a unique local strong solution for large initial data. Then, we prove that the local strong solution is indeed global provided that the initial data is sufficiently small. Furthermore, we prove that when the strong solution exists, all the global weak solutions constructed by Lions must be equal to the unique strong solution with the same initial data.  相似文献

In this paper, we present iteration methods to find a solution of asymptotically quasi‐nonexpansive semigroups for a split equality common fixed point in Banach spaces. The results show weak and strong convergence theorem of iteration that improve and extend some recent results.  相似文献

We study numerically the semi‐classical limit for three‐coupled long wave–short wave interaction equations. The Fourier–Galerkin semi‐discretization is proved to be spectrally convergent in an appropriate energy space. We propose a split‐step Fourier method in the semi‐classical regime with the discussion of the meshing strategy, which is necessary to obtain correct numerical solution. Plane wave solution with weak and strong initial phases, solitary wave solution and Gaussian solution are considered to investigate the semi‐classical limit.  相似文献

Regularization methods, including Lasso, group Lasso, and SCAD, typically focus on selecting variables with strong effects while ignoring weak signals. This may result in biased prediction, especially when weak signals outnumber strong signals. This paper aims to incorporate weak signals in variable selection, estimation, and prediction. We propose a two‐stage procedure, consisting of variable selection and postselection estimation. The variable selection stage involves a covariance‐insured screening for detecting weak signals, whereas the postselection estimation stage involves a shrinkage estimator for jointly estimating strong and weak signals selected from the first stage. We term the proposed method as the covariance‐insured screening‐based postselection shrinkage estimator. We establish asymptotic properties for the proposed method and show, via simulations, that incorporating weak signals can improve estimation and prediction performance. We apply the proposed method to predict the annual gross domestic product rates based on various socioeconomic indicators for 82 countries.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a three‐dimensional planetary geostrophic viscous model of the gyre‐scale mid‐latitude ocean. We show the global existence and uniqueness of the weak and strong solutions to this model. Moreover, we establish the existence of a finite‐dimensional global attractor to this dissipative evolution system. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the global existence of weak solutions for a two‐component μ‐Camassa–Holm system in the periodic setting. Global existence for strong solutions to the system with smooth approximate initial value is derived. Then, we show that the limit of approximate solutions is a global‐in‐time weak solution of the two‐component μ‐Camassa–Holm system. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behaviour in time of incompressible non‐Newtonian fluids in the whole space assuming that initial data also belong to L1. Firstly, we consider the weak solution to the power‐law model with non‐zero external forces and we find the asymptotic behaviour in time of this solution in the same class of existence and uniqueness with p?. Secondly, we are interested in the asymptotic behaviour of weak solutions to the second grade model, and finally, we deal with the asymptotic behaviour in time of weak solutions to a simplified model of viscoelastic fluids of the Oldroyd type. We consider a degenerate parabolic system modeling the flow of fresh and saltwater in a porous medium in the context of seawater intrusion. We propose and analyze a finite volume scheme based on two‐point flux approximation with upwind mobilities. The scheme preserves at the discrete level the main features of the continuous problem, namely the nonnegativity of the solutions, the decay of the energy and the control of the entropy and its dissipation. Based on these nonlinear stability results, we show that the scheme converges toward a weak solution to the problem. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the behavior of the model and of the scheme.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a cross‐diffusion system arising in a Leslie predator–prey population model in a bounded domain with no flux boundary condition. We investigate sufficient condition for the existence and the non‐existence of non‐constant positive solution. We obtain that if natural diffusion coefficient of predator is large enough and cross‐diffusion coefficients are fixed, then under some conditions there exists non‐constant positive solution. Furthermore, we show that if natural diffusion coefficients of predator and prey are both large enough, and cross‐diffusion coefficients are small enough, then there exists no non‐constant positive solution. We consider a weakly dissipative modified two‐component Dullin–Gottwald–Holm system. The existence of global weak solutions to the system is established. We first give the well‐posedness result of viscous approximate problem and obtain the basic energy estimates. Then, we show that the limit of the viscous approximation solutions is a global weak solution to the system. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider an initial‐boundary value problem for the equations of spherically symmetric motion of a pressureless gas with temperature‐dependent viscosity µ(θ) and conductivity κ(θ). We prove that this problem admits a unique weak solution, assuming Belov's functional relation between µ(θ) and κ(θ) and we give the behaviour of the solution for large times. In this paper, we consider an initial boundary value problem for the 3‐dimensional nonhomogeneous incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with density‐dependent viscosity and resistivity coefficients over a bounded smooth domain. Global in time unique strong solution is proved to exist when the L2 norms of initial vorticity and current density are both suitably small with arbitrary large initial density, and the vacuum of initial density is also allowed. Finally, we revisit the Navier‐Stokes model without electromagnetic effect. We find that this initial boundary problem also admits a unique global strong solution under other conditions. In particular, we prove small kinetic‐energy strong solution exists globally in time, which extends the recent result of Huang and Wang.  相似文献

We consider the third‐order Claerbout‐type wide‐angle parabolic equation (PE) of underwater acoustics in a cylindrically symmetric medium consisting of water over a soft bottom B of range‐dependent topography. There is strong indication that the initial‐boundary value problem for this equation with just a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition posed on B may not be well‐posed, for example when B is downsloping. We impose, in addition to the above, another homogeneous, second‐order boundary condition, derived by assuming that the standard (narrow‐angle) PE holds on B, and establish a priori H2 estimates for the solution of the resulting initial‐boundary value problem for any bottom topography. After a change of the depth variable that makes B horizontal, we discretize the transformed problem by a second‐order accurate finite difference scheme and show, in the case of upsloping and downsloping wedge‐type domains, that the new model gives stable and accurate results. We also present an alternative set of boundary conditions that make the problem exactly energy conserving; one of these conditions may be viewed as a generalization of the Abrahamsson–Kreiss boundary condition in the wide‐angle case. We study the dependence of qualitative behavior of the numerical solutions (obtained by a projective and upwind finite difference scheme) on the ignition temperature for a combustion model problem with general initial condition. Convergence to weak solution is proved under the Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy condition. Some condition on the ignition temperature is given to guarantee the solution containing a strong detonation wave or a weak detonation wave. Finally, we give some numerical examples which show that a strong detonation wave can be transformed to a weak detonation wave under some well-chosen ignition temperature.  相似文献
