The electronic structure, the metallic and magnetic properties of metal phosphonate Co[(CH3PO3)(H2O)] have been studied by first-principles calculations, which were based on the density-functional theory (DFT) and the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method. The total energy, the spin magnetic moments and the density of the states (DOS) were all calculated. The calculations reveal that the compound Co[(CH3PO3)(H2O)] has a stable metallic antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground state and a half-metallic ferromagnetic (FM) metastable state. Based on the spin distribution obtained from calculations, it is found that the spin magnetic moment of the compound is mainly from the Co2+, with some small contributions from the oxygen, carbon and phosphorus atoms, and the spin magnetic moment per molecule is 5.000μB, which is in good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

The local magnetic, electronic, and structural properties of (RE)Ba2Cu3O7?δ supercondcutors (RE=Gd, Dy, and Eu) were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy using the resonances of155Gd,161Dy,151Eu, and57Eu. In GdBa2Cu3O7?δ, different magnetic ordering behaviors of the Gd sublattice are found for the orthorhombic (superconducting) and tetragonal (non-superconducting) phases. In DyBa2Cu3O7?δ, the magnetic moments of the respective CEF ground states in the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases are derived from paramagnetic hyperfine splittings at 1.4 K. In both DyBa2Cu3O7?δ and EuBa2Cu3O7?δ, anomalies connected with the superconducting transitions in isomer shift, recoil-free fraction, and relaxation behavior were looked for, but not found. The electric-quadrupole splittings observed for both systems are discussed in connection with the lattice EFGs derived for the Gd system. In GdBa2 (Cu0.995Fe0.005)3O7?δ, the local properties of the various Fe sites are investigated over a wide temperature range in both the orthorhombic and tetragonal phase. The magnetic ordering of the Gd sublattice in the orthorhombic phase and of the Cu(2) sublattice in the tetragonal phase, respectively, is monitored via the magnetic splittings at the various Fe sites. Possible assignments of Cu(1) and Cu(2) sites as well as different oxygen configurations around the substituted Fe ions are discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of RNi4Ga (R=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Lu) compounds have been investigated. These compounds form in a hexagonal CaCu5 type structure with a space group P6/mmm. Compounds with the magnetic rare earths, R= Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm, undergo a ferromagnetic transition at 5, 17, 20, 19, 12, 3.5, 8 and 6.5 K, respectively. The transition temperatures are smaller compared to their respective parent compounds RNi5. PrNi4Ga is paramagnetic down to 2 K. LaNi4Ga and LuNi4Ga are Pauli paramagnets. All the compounds show thermomagnetic irreversibility in the magnetically ordered state except GdNi4Ga.  相似文献

Epitaxial and polycrystalline orthorhombic GdSi2 films were grown on Si(100) substrates by solid phase reaction between Si and Gd films at different thicknesses of the Gd film . The most important property of these GdSi2/Si interfaces was defect formation. This was investigated by studying the properties of the Schottky barriers by means of current voltage and capacitance–voltage characteristics, deep level transient spectroscopy by double crystal X-ray diffractometry, and transmission electron microscopy. Epitaxial growth of the silicide layer ensured a relatively low interface defect density (about 1010 cm-2), while the non-epitaxial growth induced defects of a much higher density (about 1012 cm-2). The defects generated during the silicide formation are located within a depth of about 10 nm from the GdSi2/Si interface. The electronic structures and magnetism of the half-Heusler alloys XCrAl (X=Fe, Co, Ni) and NiCrZ (Z=Al, Ga, In) have been investigated to search for new candidate half-metallic materials. Here, we predict that NiCrAl, and NiCrGa and NiCrIn are possible half-metals with an energy gap in the minority spin and a completely spin polarization at the Fermi level. The energy gap can be attributed to the covalent hybridization between the d states of the Ni and Cr atoms, which leads to the formation of bonding and antibonding peaks with a gap in between them. Their total magnetic moments are 1μB per unit cell; agree with the Slater-Pauling rule. The partial moment of Cr is largest in NiCrZ alloys and moments of Ni and Al are in antiferromagnetic alignment with Cr. Meanwhile, it is also found that FeCrAl is a normal ferromagnetic metal with a magnetic moment of 0.25μB per unit cell and CoCrAl is a semi-metal and non-magnetic.  相似文献

The electronic structure and magnetic properties of the trans-tetrachloro-bis-(pyridine)-rhenium compound with the Re atom as the metallic magnetic center, were studied using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method (FP-LAPW) within the density functional theory. The calculated total energies revealed that the compound has a stable antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground state, which is in agreement with the experiment. The band structure of the compound has a semiconductor character. The calculated magnetic moment per molecule is 3.00 μB, the magnetic moments are mainly from the Re atoms with a 5d3 electronic configuration. The AFM interaction between ferromagnetically coupled Re atom layers passes through the p orbitals of the Cl ligands near Re atoms.  相似文献

The structural properties, elastic properties and electronic structures of hexagonal Al3RE intermetallic compounds are calculated by using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. Since there exists strong on-site Coulomb repulsion between the highly localized 4f electrons of RE atoms, we present a combination of the GGA and the LSDA+U approaches in order to obtain the appropriate results. The GGA calculated lattice constants for the hexagonal Al3RE intermetallic compounds are in good agreement with available experimental values. The results of cohesive energy indicate that these compounds can be stable under absolute zero Kelvin and the stability of Al3Gd is the strongest in all of the hexagonal Al3RE compounds. The densities of states for GGA and LSDA+U approaches are also obtained for the Al3RE intermetallic compounds. The mechanical properties are calculated from the GGA method in this paper. According to the computed single crystal elastic constants, Al3La, Al3Sm and Al3Gd are mechanically unstable, while Al3Ce, Al3Pr and Al3Nd are stable. The polycrystalline elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio have been deduced by using Voigt-Reuss-Hill (VRH) approximations, and the calculated ratio of bulk modulus to shear modulus indicates that Al3La compound is ductile material, but Al3Ce, Al3Pr, Al3Nd, Al3Sm and Al3Gd are brittle materials.  相似文献

The electronic, magnetic, and bonding properties of the Cr2TiX (X=Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Sn, Sb) Heusler alloys have been investigated using first-principles calculations. The results show that Cr2TiSb exhibits a half-metallic nature and Cr2TiGa and Cr2TiSn exhibit a nearly half-metallic nature. From analysis of the density of states and the electron density difference along the Ga→Sn→Sb series for sp atoms, we found that the Cr-Ti bond demonstrates covalent character with more or less the ionic and metallic nature. In addition, the Cr-Ti bonding strength increases along this series. All the compounds have a negative total magnetic moment, most of which are confined to the Cr atoms. There exists a 1.0μB increasing trend of the total moment along the III→IV→V main group for sp atoms, and only the total moment of Cr2TiSb coincides well with the Slater-Pauling behavior.  相似文献

The magnetic properties and electronic structure of Mn2NiZ (Z=In, Sn, Sb) have been studied. The magnetic structure of these alloys is mainly determined by the main-group element Z instead of the distance between the Mn atoms. Electronic structure calculations suggest that Mn2NiIn and Mn2NiSn are both ferrimagnets with antiparallel alignment between the Mn moments. But this antiferromagnetic coupling is weakened by the increasing number of valence electrons of the Z atoms. When it comes to Mn2NiSb, a ferromagnetic coupling between the Mn atoms is observed. Mn2NiSn and Mn2NiSb have been synthesized successfully. Their Ms at 5 K agree well with the theoretical value.  相似文献

The transport, magnetic, and elastic properties of TbBaCo2?x FexO5 + γ are investigated. It is shown that these compounds exhibit first-order metal-insulator and antiferromagnet-weak ferromagnet transitions in the orthorhombic phase (x < 0.12), while these transitions are not observed in the tetragonal phase (x > 0.12). In the concentration range corresponding to the orthorhombic phase, doping with iron stabilizes the weakly ferromagnetic phase. However, the tetragonal phase is antiferromagnetic. Oxygen vacancies are assumed to be ordered in the orthorhombic case and disordered in the tetragonal phase. An analysis of Young’s modulus, magnetostriction, and effects of pressure and substitution of the O18 oxygen isotopes for O16 indicates a weak correlation between magnetic transformations and the crystal lattice.  相似文献

We have studied the electron structure and magnetic properties of Heusler phase Co2YBi and half-Heusler phase CoYBi (Y=Mn, Cr) by using the full-potential linearized-augmented plane-wave (FLAPW) method. Co2MnBi and Co2CrBi are predicted to be half-metallic magnetism with a total magnetic moment of 6 and 5 μB, respectively, well consistent with the Slater-Pauling rule. We also predict CoMnBi to be half-metallic magnetism with a slight compression. The gap origin for Co2MnBi and Co2CrBi is due to the 3d electron splitting of Mn (Cr) and Co atoms, and the gap width depends on Co electron splitting. The atom coordination surroundings have a great influence on the electron structure, and consequently the Y site in the X2YZ structure has a more remarkable electron splitting than the X site due to the more symmetric surroundings. The investigation regarding the lattice constant dependence of magnetic moment shows that the Co magnetic moment exhibits an opposite behavior with the change of the lattice constant for Heusler and half-Heusler alloys, consequently leading to the different variation trends for total magnetic moment. The variation of total and atom magnetic moment versus lattice constant can be explained by the extent of 3d electron splitting and localization of Mn (Cr) and Co atoms for both the series of alloys.  相似文献

Mo(Si1−xAlx)2 compositions have been prepared by a modified SHS route under pressure. The compositional phase analysis indicates a body centered tetragonal C11b phase below x<0.05 substitution, above which a biphasic region of C11b and C40 structure coexists. Occurrence of pure hexagonal C40 phase is observed for x>0.1. The aluminum substitution leads to a continuous increase in the lattice parameters in both these structures. In the biphasic region, redistribution of aluminum concentration takes place with the evolution of aluminum rich C40 phase as indicated by energy dispersive X-ray analysis and supported by micro-hardness measurements.  相似文献

The electronic structures (especially 4f states) of hexagonal and tetragonal erbium silicides are investigated within density functional theory. Contrary to previous theoretical studies on these compounds, Er 4f electrons are treated as valence state electrons, explicitly taking into account the on-site Coulomb interactions. Total energy calculations show that the relaxed hexagonal ErSi1.7 is more stable than the tetragonal structure, consistently with related experimental observations. The calculated total density of states of the hexagonal ErSi1.7 agrees well with the experimental valence-band spectrum in a wide energy range from 0 to 12 eV below the Fermi level. In addition, our study indicates that the occupied 4f states in erbium silicides can also locate in the energy range of 0–4.0 eV below the Fermi energy, much different from the prediction of the previously adopted Er ion model.  相似文献

In this work, we have investigated the effect of the substitution of Gd for Pr on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the Pr1−xGdxCo4B compounds for 0?x?1 using X-ray powder diffraction, magnetic measurements, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These compounds have hexagonal CeCo4B-type structure with the space group P6/mmm. The substitution of Gd for Pr leads to a decrease of the unit-cell parameters a and the unit-cell volume V, while the unit-cell parameter c increases slightly. Magnetic measurements indicate that all samples are ordered magnetically below room temperature. The Curie temperatures determined by DSC technique increase as Pr is substituted by Gd. The saturation magnetization at 5 K decreases upon Gd substitution up to x=0.6, and then increases again.  相似文献

Superhard materials have many industrial applications, wherever resistance to abrasion and wear are important. The synthesis of new superhard materials is one of the great challenges to scientists. We re-examined the phase diagram of the binary osmium-boron system and confirmed the existence of two hexagonal phases, OsB1.1, Os2B3, and an orthorhombic phase, OsB2. Almost nothing is known about the physical properties of osmium borides. Microhardness measurements show that OsB2 is extremely hard. Ab initio calculations show that this is due to formation of covalent bonds between boron atoms. OsB2 is also a low compressibility material. It can be used as hard coating.  相似文献

The magnetic properties have been studied for the series of RNi5−xCux intermetallics with R=Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu; x  ?2.5. Compositional dependences of magnetic susceptibility for the Pauli paramagnets (R=Y, La, Ce, Lu) and the Curie temperature for ferromagnets (R=Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) have maximum at x=0.2–0.4x=0.20.4 and 1, respectively. The substitution of Cu for Ni is accompanied by decreasing spontaneous magnetic moment and increasing coercive force of all ferromagnetic RNi5−xCux but GdNi5−xCux. These results are explained in the frame of band magnetism, random local crystal field, and domain wall pinning theories.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of electronic structure and magnetic properties based on density-functional theory were performed for MnFeP1−xSix (0.44?x?0.60) alloys which are considered as promising magnetocaloric refrigerants. We used the full-potential APW+lo method and treated the random order of P(Si) atoms in the ZrNiAl-type structure in a virtual-crystal approximation. A non-monotonic behavior of the alloy magnetization as a function of x was obtained, in qualitative agreement with experiment, and explained in terms of the spin-polarized densities of states.  相似文献

The structural stability of Alkali metal hydrides AMH4 (A=Li, Na; M=B, Al) is analyzed among the various crystal structures, namely hexagonal (P63mc), tetragonal (P42/nmc), tetragonal (P-421c), tetragonal (I41/a), orthorhombic (Pnma) and monoclinic (P21/c). It is observed that, orthorhombic (Pnma) phase is the most stable structure for LiBH4, monoclinic (P21/c) for LiAlH4, tetragonal (P42/nmc) for NaBH4 and tetragonal (I41/a) for NaAlH4 at normal pressure. Pressure induced structural phase transitions are observed in LiBH4, LiAlH4, NaBH4 and NaAlH4 at the pressures of 4 GPa, 36.1 GPa, 26.5 GPa and 46 GPa respectively. The electronic structure reveals that these metal hydrides are wide band gap insulators. The calculated elastic constants indicate that these metal hydrides are mechanically stable at normal pressure.  相似文献

The resonance microwave absorption at wavelengths 871, 406, 305, and 118 μm in tetragonal layered perovskites HoBa2Cu3O x (x = 6.0, 6.3) in pulsed magnetic fields up to 40 T has been detected. This absorption is caused by the electronic transitions between low lying levels of the Ho3+ ion in the crystal field. The positions and intensities of the basic resonance absorption lines for the crystal with x = 6.0 in the magnetic field oriented along the tetragonal axes are adequately described in terms of the tetragonal crystal field with known interaction parameters. To explain the weaker absorption lines, it is necessary to take into account the effect of the inhomogeneous orthorhombic and monoclinic components of the crystal field, which are due to disorder in the oxygen subsystem. This effect is more pronounced in the absorption spectra of the crystal with x = 6.3 for which the oxygen disorder is more pronounced.  相似文献

The effect of doping with Cr on the electronic structure and magnetism of Co3Al has been studied by density functional calculations. It has been found that the Cr atom has a strong site preference for the B-site in Co3Al. With the substitution of Cr for Co, the total densities of states (DOS) change obviously: A DOS peak appears at EF in the majority spin states and an energy gap is opened in the minority spin states. The effect of Cr in Co3Al is mainly to push the antibonding peak of the Co (A,C) atoms high on the energy scale and to form the energy gap around EF, and also to contribute to the large DOS peak at EF in the majority spin direction. The calculations indicate a ferromagnetic alignment between the Co and Cr spin moments. The calculated total magnetic moment decreases and becomes closer to the Slater–Pauling curve with increasing Cr content. This is mainly due to the decrease of the Co (A,C) spin moments. At the same time, the moments of Co (B) and Cr (B) only change slightly.  相似文献
