We consider isometric embedding of trees into the infinite graph Zm whose vertices are the m-dimensional lattice points where two vertices a=(a1,a2,…,am) and b=(b1,b2,…,bm) are adjacent if and only if |ai-bi|?1 for 1?i?m. Linial, London, and Rabinovich have shown that this can be done with , where t is the number of leaves. In this note, we sketch a proof that .  相似文献

Given two points a=(a1,…,an) and b=(b1,…,bn) from Rn with a<b componentwise and a map f from the rectangle into a metric semigroup M=(M,d,+), we study properties of the total variation of f on introduced by the first author in [V.V. Chistyakov, A selection principle for mappings of bounded variation of several variables, in: Real Analysis Exchange 27th Summer Symposium, Opava, Czech Republic, 2003, pp. 217-222] such as the additivity, generalized triangle inequality and sequential lower semicontinuity. This extends the classical properties of C. Jordan's total variation (n=1) and the corresponding properties of the total variation in the sense of Hildebrandt [T.H. Hildebrandt, Introduction to the Theory of Integration, Academic Press, 1963] (n=2) and Leonov [A.S. Leonov, On the total variation for functions of several variables and a multidimensional analog of Helly's selection principle, Math. Notes 63 (1998) 61-71] (nN) for real-valued functions of n variables.  相似文献

Let G be a graph of order n and size e. A vertex-magic total labeling is an assignment of the integers 1,2,…,n+e to the vertices and the edges of G, so that at each vertex, the vertex label and the labels on the edges incident at that vertex, add to a fixed constant, called the magic number of G. Such a labeling is a-vertex consecutive magic if the set of the labels of the vertices is {a+1,a+2,…,a+n}, and is b-edge consecutive magic if the set of labels of the edges is {b+1,b+2,…,b+e}. In this paper we prove that if an a-vertex consecutive magic graph has isolated vertices then the order and the size satisfy (n-1)2+n2=(2e+1)2. Moreover, we show that every tree with even order is not a-vertex consecutive magic and, if a tree of odd order is a-vertex consecutive then a=n-1. Furthermore, we show that every a-vertex consecutive magic graph has minimum degree at least two if a=0, or both and 2a?e, and the minimum degree is at least three if both and 2a?e. Finally, we state analogous results for b-edge consecutive magic graphs.  相似文献

Let T(G) be the number of spanning trees in graph G. In this note, we explore the asymptotics of T(G) when G is a circulant graph with given jumps. The circulant graph is the 2k-regular graph with n vertices labeled 0,1,2,…,n−1, where node i has the 2k neighbors i±s1,i±s2,…,i±sk where all the operations are . We give a closed formula for the asymptotic limit as a function of s1,s2,…,sk. We then extend this by permitting some of the jumps to be linear functions of n, i.e., letting si, di and ei be arbitrary integers, and examining

Let P be a collection of nontrivial simple paths on a host tree T. The edge intersection graph of P, denoted by EPT(P), has vertex set that corresponds to the members of P, and two vertices are joined by an edge if and only if the corresponding members of P share at least one common edge in T. An undirected graph G is called an edge intersection graph of paths in a tree if G=EPT(P) for some P and T. The EPT graphs are useful in network applications. Scheduling undirected calls in a tree network or assigning wavelengths to virtual connections in an optical tree network are equivalent to coloring its EPT graph. An undirected graph G is chordal if every cycle in G of length greater than 3 possesses a chord. Chordal graphs correspond to vertex intersection graphs of subtrees on a tree. An undirected graph G is weakly chordal if every cycle of length greater than 4 in G and in its complement possesses a chord. It is known that the EPT graphs restricted to host trees of vertex degree 3 are precisely the chordal EPT graphs. We prove a new analogous result that weakly chordal EPT graphs are precisely the EPT graphs with host tree restricted to degree 4. Moreover, this provides an algorithm to reduce a given EPT representation of a weakly chordal EPT graph to an EPT representation on a degree 4 tree. Finally, we raise a number of intriguing open questions regarding related families of graphs.  相似文献

The Estrada index of a graph G is defined as , where λ1,λ2,…,λn are the eigenvalues of G. The Laplacian Estrada index of a graph G is defined as , where μ1,μ2,…,μn are the Laplacian eigenvalues of G. An edge grafting operation on a graph moves a pendent edge between two pendent paths. We study the change of Estrada index of graph under edge grafting operation between two pendent paths at two adjacent vertices. As the application, we give the result on the change of Laplacian Estrada index of bipartite graph under edge grafting operation between two pendent paths at the same vertex. We also determine the unique tree with minimum Laplacian Estrada index among the set of trees with given maximum degree, and the unique trees with maximum Laplacian Estrada indices among the set of trees with given diameter, number of pendent vertices, matching number, independence number and domination number, respectively.  相似文献

The pebbling number of a graph G, f(G), is the least n such that, no matter how n pebbles are placed on the vertices of G, we can move a pebble to any vertex by a sequence of pebbling moves, each move taking two pebbles off one vertex and placing one on an adjacent vertex. Let p1,p2,…,pn be positive integers and G be such a graph, V(G)=n. The thorn graph of the graph G, with parameters p1,p2,…,pn, is obtained by attaching pi new vertices of degree 1 to the vertex ui of the graph G, i=1,2,…,n. Graham conjectured that for any connected graphs G and H, f(G×H)≤f(G)f(H). We show that Graham’s conjecture holds true for a thorn graph of the complete graph with every by a graph with the two-pebbling property. As a corollary, Graham’s conjecture holds when G and H are the thorn graphs of the complete graphs with every .  相似文献

We study the following min-min random graph process G=(G0,G1,…): the initial state G0 is an empty graph on n vertices (n even). Further, GM+1 is obtained from GM by choosing a pair {v,w} of distinct vertices of minimum degree uniformly at random among all such pairs in GM and adding the edge {v,w}. The process may produce multiple edges. We show that GM is asymptotically almost surely disconnected if Mn, and that for M=(1+t)n, constant, the probability that GM is connected increases from 0 to 1. Furthermore, we investigate the number X of vertices outside the giant component of GM for M=(1+t)n. For constant we derive the precise limiting distribution of X. In addition, for n−1ln4nt=o(1) we show that tX converges to a gamma distribution.  相似文献

Let λ1,λ2,…,λn be the eigenvalues of a graph G of order n. The energy of G is defined as E(G)=|λ1|+|λ2|+?+|λn|. Let be the graph obtained from two copies of C6 joined by a path Pn-10, Bn be the class of all bipartite bicyclic graphs that are not the graph obtained from two cycles Ca and Cb (a,b?10 and ab2 (mod 4)) joined by an edge. In this paper, we show that is the graph with maximal energy in Bn, which gives a partial solution to Gutman’s conjecture in Gutman and Vidovi? (2001) [I. Gutman, D. In 1968, Vizing conjectured that, if G is a Δ-critical graph with n vertices, then , where α(G) is the independence number of G. In this note, we apply Vizing and Vizing-like adjacency lemmas to this problem and obtain better bounds for Δ∈{7,…,19}.  相似文献

Let G=(V,E) be a graph with V={1,2,…,n}. Denote by S(G) the set of all real symmetric n×n matrices A=[ai,j] with ai,j≠0, ij if and only if ij is an edge of G. Denote by I(G) the set of all pairs (p,q) of natural numbers such that there exists a matrix AS(G) with at most p positive and q negative eigenvalues. We show that if G is the join of G1 and G2, then I(G)?{(1,1)}=I(G1K1)∩I(G2K1)?{(1,1)}. Further, we show that if G is a graph with s isolated vertices, then , where denotes the graph obtained from G be removing all isolated vertices, and we give a combinatorial characterization of graphs G with (1,1)∈I(G). We use these results to determine I(G) for every complete multipartite graph G.  相似文献

We assign to each positive integer n a digraph G(n) whose set of vertices is H={0,1,…,n-1} and for which there exists a directed edge from aH to bH if . Associated with G(n) are two disjoint subdigraphs: G1(n) and G2(n) whose union is G(n). The vertices of G1(n) correspond to those residues which are relatively prime to n. The structure of G1(n) is well understood. In this paper, we investigate in detail the structure of G2(n).  相似文献

Given a graph G=(V,E) and a positive integer k, the partition into cliques (pic) decision problem consists of deciding whether there exists a partition of V into k disjoint subsets V1,V2,…,Vk such that the subgraph induced by each part Vi is a complete subgraph (clique) of G. In this paper, we establish both the NP-completeness of pic for planar cubic graphs and the Max SNP-hardness of pic for cubic graphs. We present a deterministic polynomial time -approximation algorithm for finding clique partitions in maximum degree three graphs.  相似文献

The detour order of a graph G, denoted by τ(G), is the order of a longest path in G. A subset S of V(G) is called a Pn-kernel of G if τ(G[S])≤n−1 and every vertex vV(G)−S is adjacent to an end-vertex of a path of order n−1 in G[S]. A partition of the vertex set of G into two sets, A and B, such that τ(G[A])≤a and τ(G[B])≤b is called an (a,b)-partition of G. In this paper we show that any graph with girth g has a Pn+1-kernel for every . Furthermore, if τ(G)=a+b, 1≤ab, and G has girth greater than , then G has an (a,b)-partition.  相似文献

Let G=(V,E) be a graph. A subset SV is a dominating set of G, if every vertex uVS is dominated by some vertex vS. The domination number, denoted by γ(G), is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set. For the generalized Petersen graph G(n), Behzad et al. [A. Behzad, M. Behzad, C.E. Praeger, On the domination number of the generalized Petersen graphs, Discrete Mathematics 308 (2008) 603-610] proved that and conjectured that the upper bound is the exact domination number. In this paper we prove this conjecture.  相似文献

Let G=(V,E) be a simple graph with vertex degrees d1,d2,…,dn. The Randi? index R(G) is equal to the sum over all edges (i,j)∈E of weights . We prove several conjectures, obtained by the system AutoGraphiX, relating R(G) and the chromatic number χ(G). The main result is χ(G)≤2R(G). To prove it, we also show that if vV is a vertex of minimum degree δ of G, Gv the graph obtained from G by deleting v and all incident edges, and Δ the maximum degree of G, then .  相似文献
