Near‐stoichiometric Mn:Fe:LiNbO3 crystals doped with various concentration of ZrO2 were grown by top seed solution growth (TSSG) method in the air atmosphere. The Zr concentration in the crystal was determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer. The defect structures were analyzed by means of ultraviolet‐visible and infrared transmittance spectra. The appearance of vibration peak at 3466 cm‐1 in infrared spectra manifested that Li/Nb ratio in crystals approached to stoichiometric proportion. The fundamental absorption edge represented continuous red‐shift which was discrepancy with congruent doped LiNbO3 crystals showed that doping ions possessed different location mechanism. The light‐induced scattering of the doped stoichiometric LiNbO3crystals were quantitatively scaled via incident exposure energy. The results demonstrated that Zr(2 mol%):Mn:Fe:LiNbO3 crystal had the weakest light‐induced scattering and the mechanism related to their defect structures was discussed. Crystals of the double sulfate CaMg2(SO4)3 have been obtained by solid‐state reactions of stoichiometric amounts of anhydrous CaSO4 and MgSO4 in sealed and evacuated silica tubes with chlorine gas as mineraliser. The crystal structure was determined from single crystal X‐ray diffractometer data [P 63/m, Z = 2, a = 8.3072(4), c = 7.3057(8) Å, R [F2 > 2σ (F2)] = 0.0317, wR (F2 all) = 0.0785, 476 structure factors, 33 variable parameters] and consists of distorted [CaO6] octahedra (3 symmetry), [MgO6] octahedra (3 symmetry) and SO4 tetrahedra (m symmetry) as single building units. The structure is made up of 1∞[CaO6/2] chains of face‐sharing [CaO6] octahedra that extend parallel to [001], alternating with columns of face‐sharing [MgO3/1O3/2]2 dimers. Both types of chains are linked via corner‐sharing with SO4 tetrahedra into a three‐dimensional framework structure. Although the compound crystallizes in a new structure type, it is topologically related to the NaZr2(PO4)3 (Nasicon) structure, and a comparative discussion between both structural arrangements is given. The generation of bubble‐inclusions during BaB2O4 (BBO) crystal growth from high temperature solution has been optically observed by an in situ observation technique. It was found that bubbles are formed from the peripheries of some hexagonal defects in the (0001) plane of the growing crystal, which may be caused by the evaporation of the air‐opened interface at the high temperature. In addition, atomic force microscope (AFM) was used to investigate the distribution of bubbles. Results revealed that the bubble generation and distribution depend strongly on the microscopic structure of the interface: on a rough interface, bubbles are easily formed and grow rapidly; however, they are greatly suppressed by step trains on a vicinal interface. A finite‐element model is employed to analysis the thermal environments in Temperature Gradient Technique (TGT) furnace during the growth of large‐sized Nd:YAG crystal. The obtained results show that when the crucible is located at the lower position inside of the heater, a flatter solid‐liquid interface is established, which makes it easier to obtain the core‐free Nd:YAG crystal. Based on the defect models that the two tetragonal Cu2+ centers in KTaO3 are due to Cu2+ ions at Ta5+ sites associated, respectively, with one and two oxygen vacancies (V0) along C4 axis because of charge compensation, the spin‐Hamiltonian parameters (g factors g‖, g⊥and hyperfine structure constants A‖, A⊥) of both Cu2+ centers in KTaO3 are calculated from the perturbation theory method (PTM) and the complete diagonalization (of energy matrix) method (CDM). The calculated results from both theoretical methods are not only close to each other, but also in reasonable agreement with the experimental values. This suggests that both methods are effective in the explanations of spin‐Hamiltonian parameters for 3d9 ions in tetragonal symmetry. Single crystals of lead zinc niobate‐lead titanate (1‐x)Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–xPbTiO3 for x = 8% and 9% have been grown by flux method using Lead Oxide (PbO) as flux. Low scan rate XRD has been carried out to investigate on the structural influence of the compositional variations in the grown crystals. Transmission spectra in the range of UV‐Vis‐Near IR and mid IR regions have been carried out to understand the distortions caused in the BO6 octahedral lattice. Morphological aspects of as‐grown PZN‐PT crystals have also been investigated. Dielectric measurements clearly explained the dependence of Tc and diffusiveness with PT content. The values of Pr and Ecobtained from P‐E loops suggest the presence of ordered domain state in these PZN‐PT single crystals. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim) 相似文献
