Cadmium Oxide films have been prepared by vacuum evaporation method on a glass substrate at room temperature. Detailed structural, optical, and electrical properties of the films are presented at different annealing temperatures. The crystal structure of the samples was studied by X‐ ray diffraction. The spectral absorption coefficient of the CdO film at the fundamental absorption region (450‐650nm) was determined using the spectral data of transmittance. The direct and indirect band gap energies were determined and found to be 2.33 eV and 1.95 eV respectively. The third order optical nonlinearities χ(3) of CdO films has been measured used the z‐can technique. The real and imaginary parts of χ(3) have been measured at 514 nm and found to be 1.7x10‐3 esu and 3.0x10‐3 esu, respectively. (© 2003 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Sb2S3 thin films are obtained by evaporating of Sb2S3 powder onto glass substrates maintained at room temperature under pressure of 2×10‐5 torr. The composition of the thin films was determined by energy dispersive analysis of X‐ray (EDAX). The effect of thermal annealing in vacuum on the structural properties was studied using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The as‐deposition films were amorphous, while the annealed films have an orthorhombic polycrystalline structure. The optical constants of as‐deposited and annealed Sb2S3 thin films were obtained from the analysis of the experimental recorded transmission spectral data over the wavelength range 400‐1400 nm. The transmittance analysis allowed the determination of refractive index as function of wavelength. It was found that the refractive dispersion data obeyed the single oscillator model, from which the dispersion parameters (oscillator energy, E0, dispersion energy, Ed) were determined. The static refractive index n(0), static dielectric constant, ε, and optical band gap energy, Eg, were also calculated using the values of dispersion parameters. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. GaSe thin films are obtained by evaporating GaSe crystals onto ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates kept at room temperature under a pressure of ∼10–5 Torr. The X‐ray analysis revealed that these films are of amorphous nature. The reflectance and transmittance of the films are measured in the incident photon energy range of 1.1–3.0 eV. The absorption coefficient spectral analysis revealed the existence of long and wide band tails of the localized states in the low absorption region. The band tails width is calculated to be 0.42 eV. The analysis of the absorption coefficient in the high absorption region revealed an indirect forbidden band gap of 1.93 eV. The transmittance analysis in the incidence photon wavelength range of 500–1100 nm allowed the determination of refractive index as function of wave length. The refractive index–wavelength variation leads to the determination of dispersion and oscillator energies as 31.23 and 3.90 eV, respectively. The static refractive index and static dielectric constant were also calculated as a result of the later data and found to be 9.0 and 3.0, respectively. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. GeO2 thin films were prepared by sol‐gel method on ITO/Glass substrate. The electrical and optical properties and the microstructures of these films were investigated with special emphasis on the effects of an annealing treatment in ambient air. The films were annealed at various temperatures from 500 °C to 700 °C. Structural analysis through X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM) showed that surface structure and morphological characteristics were sensitive to the treatment conditions. The optical transmittance spectra of the GeO2/ITO/Glass were measured using a UV‐visible spectrophotometer. All films exhibited GeO2 (101) orientation perpendicular to the substrate surface where the grain size increased with increasing annealing temperature. The optical transmittance spectroscopy further revealed high transparency (over 70 %) in the wave range 400 – 800 nm of the visible region. At an annealing temperature level of 700 °C, the GeO2 films were found to possess a leakage current density of 1.31×10‐6A/cm2 at an electrical field of 20 kV/cm. (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Polycrystalline β ‐GaSe thin films were obtained by the thermal evaporation of GaSe crystals onto glass substrates kept at 300 °C under a pressure of 10–5 Torr. The transmittance and reflectance of these films was measured in the incident photon energy range of 1.1–3.70 eV. The absorption coefficient spectral analysis in the sharp absorption region revealed a direct allowed transitions band gap of 1.83 eV. The data analysis allowed the identification of the dispersive optical parameters by calculating the refractive index in the wavelength region of 620–1100 nm. In addition, the photocurrent of the samples was studied as function of incident illumination‐intensity and temperature. The photocurrent is found to exhibit sublinear and supralinear character above and below 270 K, respectively. The temperature dependent photocurrent data analysis allowed the calculation of photocurrent activation energies as 603, 119 and 45 meV being dominant in the temperature regions of 250–300 K, 180–240 K and 80‐160 K, respectively. Undoped and Indium doped tin disulphide (SnS2) thin films had been deposited onto glass substrates at Ts = 300 °C using spray pyrolysis technique under atmospheric pressure with stannous chloride, indium chloride and thiourea as precursors. The structural, optical and electrical properties of the deposited films were characterized. The XRD pattern revealed that the undoped and doped films had preferred orientation along (002) plane with hexagonal structure. FESEM micrographs had shown that morphologies of the films changed with indium doping. Optical constant such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), real and imaginary parts of dielectric constants were evaluated from transmittance and reflectance spectra in UV‐Visible spectroscopy. The optical absorption data were used to determine the band gap energy and it was found to be 2.75 eV for undoped and 2.50 eV for indium doped films respectively. The room temperature dark resistivity was found to be 4.545 × 103 Ω‐cm and 5.406 × 103 Ω‐cm for undoped and In‐doped films respectively.  相似文献

Thin films of antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) were prepared by thermal evaporation under vacuum (p=5×10–5 torr) on glass substrates maintained at various temperatures between 293 K and 523 K. Their microstructural properties have obtained by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electron diffraction analysis showed the occurrence of amorphous to polycrystalline transition in the films deposited at higher temperature of substrates (523 K). The polycrystalline thin films were found to have an orthorhombic structure. The interplanar distances and unit‐cell parameters were determined by high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and compared with the standard values for Sb2S3. The surface morphology of Sb2S3 thin films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optical transmission spectra at normal incidence of Sb2S3 thin films have been measured in the spectral range of 400–1400 nm. The analysis of the absorption spectra revealed indirect energy gaps, characterizing of amorphous films, while the polycrystalline films exhibited direct energy gap. From the photon energy dependence of absorption coefficient, the optical band gap energy, Eg, were calculated for each thin films. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The mechanism of ultraviolet (UV), violet and blue green emission from ZnO:Al (AZO) thin films deposited at different radio frequency (r.f.) powers on glass substrates was investigated. The structure and surface morphology of AZO films have also been observed. The optical transmittance spectra shows more than 80% transmittance in the visible region and the band gap is found to be directly allowed. From the photoluminescence measurement, intense UV and blue green luminescence is obtained for the samples deposited at higher sputtering powers. The mechanism of luminescence suggests that UV luminescence of AZO thin film is related to the transition from near band edge to the valence band and the concentration of antisite oxide (Ozn) increases with increase in r.f. power which in turn increases the intensity of green band emission while the violet PL is due to the defect level transition in the grain boundaries of AZO films. Manganese sulphide (MnS) thin films have been deposited onto glass substrate by a low cost spray‐pyrolysis technique at 220 °C. The as‐deposited MnS thin films have been characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX) spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X‐ray diffraction, UV visible spectroscopy and photo electrochemical (PEC) measurement. The SEM and AFM images showed that the MnS thin films were well covered onto the substrate surface. The as‐deposited raw thin film was found to be amorphous in nature and perfectly crystalline phase after annealing the sample. Optical band gap of the MnS thin films was found to vary from 3.1 to 3.21 eV and the band gap decreases with the increase in film thickness. Optical constants such as refractive index, extinction coefficient have been evaluated using reflectance and absorbance data. (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Thermally processed lead iodide (PbI2) thin films were prepared by the vacuum evaporation method in a constant ambient. Measured thickness of the film was verified analytically from the optical transmittance data in a wavelength range between 300 and 1600 nm. From the Tauc relation for the non‐direct inter band transition, the optical band gap of the film was found to be 2.58 eV for film thickness 300 nm. X‐ray diffraction analysis confirmed that PbI2 films are polycrystalline, having hexagonal structure. The low fluctuation in Urbach energy indicates that the grain size is quite small. The present findings are in agreement with the other results. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Two-source thermal evaporation method was utilized to prepare hard ZnSe thin films, the films were then immersed in silver nitrate solution for different time periods. The optical properties of the films were measured from the transmittance spectra. X-ray pattern of the films were also included. Final compositions of the resulting films were measured by EMPA method and comparisons between compositions by EMPA vs. optical absorbance were also reported. The dc electrical conductivity increased and a small shift in the optical band gap was also observed.  相似文献

Thin films of InSe were obtained by thermal evaporation techniques on glass substrates maintained at various temperatures (Tsb = 30°, 400°C). X‐ray diffraction analysis showed the occurrence of amorphous to polycrystalline transformation in the films deposited at higher substrate temperature (400°C). The polycrystalline films were found to have a hexagonal lattice. Compositions of these films have been characterized by EDAX and the surface analysis by scanning electron microscopy. Optical properties of the films, investigated by using spectrophotometer transmittance spectra in the wavelength range (300 – 1100 nm), were explained in terms of substrate temperatures. Films formed at room temperature showed an optical band gap (Egopt) 1.56 eV; where as the films formed at 400°C were found to have a Egopt of 1.92 eV. The increase in the value of Egopt with Tsb treatment is interpreted in terms of the density of states model as proposed by Mott and Davis. The analysis of current ‐Voltage characteristics, based on space charge limited currents (SCLC) measurements, confirms the exponential decrease of density of states from the conduction band edge towards the Fermi level for both the amorphous and polycrystalline films. Good homogeneous and stoichiometric ZnO nanofiber thin films have been deposited onto cleaned glass substrate by a simple spray pyrolysis technique under atmospheric pressure using zinc acetate precursor at temperature 200 °C. Films of various thicknesses have been obtained by varying the deposition time, while all other deposition parameters such as spray rate, carrier gas pressure and distance between spray nozzle to substrate were kept constant. Surface morphology and optical properties of the as deposited thin films have been studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) attached with an EDX and UV visible spectroscopy. From EDX data, atomic weight% of Zinc and Oxygen were found to be 49.22% and 49.62% respectively. The SEM micrograph of the film shows uniform deposition and scattered nano fiber around the nucleation centers. The optical band gap of the ZnO thin films was found to be in the range 3.3 to 3.4 eV and the band gap decreases with thickness of the film. Optical constants such as refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary parts of dielelectric constants were evaluated from reflectance and absorbance spectra. The optical properties of the Ag-In-Se (AIS) thin films deposited by e-beam technique were investigated by means of the optical transmittance measurements. The optical absorption coefficients of the films were found to vary from 103 to 105 cm−1 over the wavelength range of 300-1100 nm. The real and imaginary parts of the refractive index and dielectric constant for the as-grown and annealed films in between 100 and 400 °C were evaluated by means of both envelope method (EM) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) method and the results were in quite good agreement with each other. The refractive index, n, dispersion over the measured wavelength range was explained by applying single-oscillator model (SOM) and the related parameters were calculated. The optical absorption process for the AIS thin films was characterized by three direct transitions from three closely spaced valence bands to a single conduction band due to the splitting of the valence band under the influence of the tetragonal crystalline field and spin-orbit interaction. The direct optical band gap energy decreases as the annealing temperature increases because of the increase in the width of band tail states near valence-band edge caused by the Se segregation. The two distinct parameters of the quasicubic model; crystal-field splitting, ΔCF, and spin-orbit splitting, ΔSO, were calculated for as-grown and annealed AIS thin films.  相似文献

ZnTe thin films were deposited onto well‐cleaned glass substrates kept at different temperatures (Ts = 303, 373 and 423 K), by vacuum evaporation method under the pressure of 10–5 Torr. The thickness of the film was measured by quartz crystal monitor and verified by the multiple beam interferometer method. The structural characterization was made using X‐ray diffractometer with filtered CuKα radiation. The grain sizes of the microcrystallines in films increases with increase in substrate temperature. The strain (ε), grain size (D) and dislocation density (δ) was calculated and results are discussed based on substrate temperature. Optical behaviour of the film was analyzed from transmittance spectra in the visible region (400–800 nm). The optical transition in ZnTe films is direct and allowed type. The optical band gap energy shows an inverse dependence on substrate temperature and thickness. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Sm‐doped CaNb2O6 (CaNb2O6:Sm) phosphor thin films were prepared by radio‐frequency magnetron sputtering on sapphire substrates. The thin films were grown at several growth temperatures and subsequently annealed at 800 °C in air. The crystallinity, surface morphology, optical transmittance, and photoluminescence of the thin films were investigated by X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet‐visible spectrophotometry, and fluorescence spectrophotometry, respectively. All of the thin films showed a main red emission radiated by the transition from the 4G5/2 excited state to the 6H9/2 ground state of the Sm3+ ions and several weak bands under ultraviolet excitation with a 279 nm wavelength. The optimum growth temperature for depositing the high‐quality CaNb2O6:Sm thin films, which was determined from the luminescence intensity, was found to be 400 °C, where the thin film exhibited an orthorhombic structure with a thickness of 370 nm, an average grain size of 220 nm, a band gap energy of 3.99 eV, and an average optical transmittance of 85.9%. These results indicate that the growth temperature plays an important role in controlling the emission intensity and optical band gap energy of CaNb2O6:Sm thin films.  相似文献

Zinc oxide thin films were deposited on p‐type (100) silicon and Corning glass substrate by using RF magnetron sputtering at different sputter powers range 100–200 W and sputter pressures range 2–8 Pa. The deposited films were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscope and UV‐Vis‐NIR spectrophotometer. The films formed at sputter power of 100 W consists of weak (100) reflection and then sputter power increased to 150 W additional (110) reflection was present with enhancement in the intensity of (100) peak. Further increase of sputtering power to 200 W the intensity of (100) phase decreased with the presence of additional peaks of (002) and (101) of ZnO. The FTIR analysis confirms the Zn‐O absorption band was located at 414 cm‐1. The optical band gap of zinc oxide films decreased from 3.28 to 3.07 eV with increase of sputter power from 100 to 200 W. The maximum crystallite size of 21 nm, the root mean square roughness of 7.2 nm was found at films formed at working pressure of 5 Pa. The optical transmittance of the films increased from 88 to 96% and then decreased to 84% with increase of sputter pressure from 2 to 8 Pa.  相似文献

In the present work, PVA and various concentrations of FeCl3 doped PVA polymer were prepared and optical studies like IR and UV/Visible analysis were carried out on them in solution form also the cast films were examined for their conductance. The variation of optical band gap of PVA polymer with the addition of Fe3+ transition metal ion has been determined by the Tauc plot method. It is found that the optical band gap and the transmittance of the polymer solutions being decreased with the increase in the concentration of Fe3+ ion, and thus obeys Beer's Law. This is supported by conductivity obtained for these polymers and FT-IR spectra which shows the stretching of the various bonds of the polymer due to the addition of transition metal (Fe3+) ions.  相似文献

Optical and electrical properties of the (Se80Te20)100 ? xAgx (0  x  4) ultra-thin films have been studied. The ultra-thin films were prepared by thermal evaporation of the bulk samples. Thin films were annealed below glass transition temperature (328 K) and in between glass transition temperature and crystallization temperature (343 K). Thin films annealed at 343 K showed crystallization peaks for Se–Te–Ag phases in the XRD spectra. The transmission and reflection of as-prepared and annealed ultra-thin films were obtained in the 300–1100 nm spectral region. The optical band gap has been calculated from the transmission and reflection data. The refractive index has been calculated by the measured reflection data. It has been found that the optical band gap increases, but the refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary dielectric constant decrease with increase in Ag content. The optical band gap and refractive index show the variation in their values with increase in the annealing temperature. The extinction coefficient increases with increasing annealing temperature. The surface morphology of ultra-thin films has been determined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The measured dc conductivity, under a vacuum of 10? 5 mbar, showed thermally activated conduction with single activation energy in the measured temperature range (288–358 K) and it followed Meyer–Neldel rule. The dc activation energy decreases with increase in Ag content in pristine and annealed films. The results have been analyzed on the bases of thermal annealing effects in the chalcogenide thin films.  相似文献

This study deals with the role of the different substrates on the microstructural, optical and electronical properties of TiO2 thin films produced by conventional direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering in a mixture of pure argon and oxygen using a Ti metal target with the aid of X–ray diffractometer (XRD), ultra violet spectrometer (UV–vis) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements. Transparent TiO2 thin films are deposited on Soda lime glass, MgO(100), quartz and sitall substrates. Phase purity, surface morphology, optical and photocatalytic properties of the films are compared with each other. It is found that the amplitude of interference oscillation of the films is in a range of 77‐89%. The transmittance of the film deposited on Soda lime glass is the smallest while the film produced on MgO(100) substrate obtains the maximum transmittance value. The refractive index and optical band gap of the TiO2 thin films are also inferred from the transmittance spectra. The results show that the film deposited on Soda lime glass has the better optical property while the film produced on MgO(100) substrate exhibits much better photoactivity than the other films because of the large optical energy band gap. As for the XRD results, the film prepared on MgO(100) substrate contains the anatase phase only; on the other hand, the other films contain both anatase and rutile phases. Furthermore, AFM images show that the regular structures are observed on the surface of all the films studied. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
