3 by diffusion doping is investigated by means of secondary neutral mass spectrometry and secondary ion mass spectrometry. The diffusion of praseodymium in LiNbO3 can be described by Fick’s laws of diffusion with a concentration-independent diffusion coefficient and a limited solubility of praseodymium in LiNbO3 increasing exponentially with rising temperature. The diffusion depends on the Li2O content of the LiNbO3 crystal. For LiNbO3 crystals with a nominal slight difference in the congruent composition, the diffusion constants and activation energies for Z-cut LiNbO3 are 3.28×10-5 cm2/s and 2.27 eV, and 1.39×10-5 cm2/s and 2.24 eV, respectively. Titanium-doped waveguides are formed in Pr:LiNbO3 and characterised in relation to waveguide loss and absorption in the visible and near infrared.  We investigated the trans–cis photoisomerization of an azo dye in a rigid matrix and the resulting third-order resonant optical nonlinearity by means of the simple theoretical prediction of a two-energy-level system, thin-layer chromatography and H-NMR studies. A methylorange (MO), a methylred (MR), congored (CR) or a Disperse Red 1 (DR1) doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or silica film was used as nonlinear optical material. The existence of equi-absorbing points, or isosbestic points in the absorbance spectrum change and the remarkable stationary transmittance to be independent of the action beam intensity enabled us to confirm the photoisomerization even in a rigid matrix. Then, we measured the third-order resonant optical nonlinearity of dichroism through the polarization absorbance spectrum measurement and determined the characteristic optical parameters of the photoisomerization in the film such as the quantum yields φT, φC, the thermal reaction constant K and the photoisomerization time constant by fitting the theoretical curve of the two-energy-level system to the observed temporal transmittance change after the action beam exposure of the MO/PVA film. The quantum yields were φˉT=0.36 and φˉC=0.38, respectively. The photoisomerization time constant of MO embedded in the PVA film was a few seconds.  An intracavity frequency-doubled 10%Nd : LaSc3(BO3)4 (Nd : LSB) laser was investigated in different resonator configurations and in different operation modes under continuous wave (cw) and quasi-cw laser-diode pumping. With a Cr4+ : YAG passive modulator and a KTP crystal the second-harmonic output power at 531 nm amounted to 190 mW in Q-switched TEM00 mode at 750 mW of pump power. In a sandwich resonator, when all the optical elements were in direct contact with each other, 0.8 W of green output power was obtained in cw mode under 2.7 W of pump power with a slope efficiency of 44%. In the same setup under fiber-coupled diode-laser array pumping (5.6 W of incident power), 1.2 W of green output power was achieved in cw mode and 1.4 W in quasi-cw mode.  We show analytically that for certain asymmetrically graded-index planar waveguides at the cutoff point where the effective refractive index of a mode coincides with the index of the substrate, there exist unusual bound modes. Z-scan measurements of photorefractive nonlinearities for a SBN: Ce crystal   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
 In this paper, we derived the Z-scan formula for a photorefractive crystal sample under an external applied electric field. The far-field diffraction pattern of a Gaussian beam wavefront through a photorefractive crystal is calculated by considering spatial-phase perturbation induced by the space-charge field. The photorefractive drift nonlinearities and correspondingly, the electro-optic coefficients r 33, r 13, (r 23) and the characteristic ratio n 3 e r 33/n 3 o r 13 for a cerium-doped Sr0.61Ba0.39Nb2O6 crystal are determined from the Z-scan experiments. Z-scan with enhanced sensitivity is also realized by measuring the normalized transmittance at the off-axis position in the far field. Dynamics of the Yb3+ to Er3+ energy transfer in LiNbO3   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The energy transfer dynamics between Yb3+ and Er3+ ions in lithium niobate is investigated after ytterbium-pulsed excitation at 920 nm. The sensitisation of the LiNbO3:Er3+ system with Yb3+ ions does not modify the lifetime of the 4I13/2 erbium level (1.5-μm emission), whereas it induces a marked, concentration-dependent change in the lifetime of the 2F5/2 (Yb3+) and 4S3/2 (Er3+) multiplets (1060-nm and 550-nm emissions, respectively). The results are analysed by using the rate-equation formalism and cross-relaxation model for the energy transfer. Experimental and theoretical studies of the photovoltaic shift in the position of the diffraction efficiency maximum of holograms recorded in LiNbO3 for the case of optimal electric field multiplexing are described. The experimental data are explained using a model in which the bulk photovoltaic field is excited in a crystal that is electrically connected with a low loading resistance. We suggest that the surface conductivity of the crystal can play an important role in the formation of this effective loading resistance. 3 crystal have been measured using Z-scan technique with picosecond pulses at 532 nm. The nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refractive index are determined to be 2.5×10-10 cm/W and 5.3×10-15 cm2/W, respectively. Both sign and magnitude of the measured refractive nonlinearity are considerably different from the reported Z-scan results in LiNbO3 obtained with cw laser beam at 514 nm. The nonlinearities in LiNbO3 induced by 532 nm picosecond pulses are believed to be mainly due to two-photon absorption and bound electronic Kerr effect associated with the two-photon absorption. 3 crystal – was grown in our Laboratory. The absorption and fluorescence spectra were measured and show some differences from the results of common Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 with monodomain structure. Third-order quasi-phase-matched violet second-harmonic generation in the sample was demonstrated to characterize the quality of the crystal. The properties indicate that the periodically poled optical superlattice Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 has great potential for constructing a blue or green light source through self-frequency-doubling operation using the maximum nonlinear optical coefficient d33 of LiNbO3 and the high-gain π polarization at the same time. 3 :Ti:Fe waveguides are thermally fixed during hologram recording at elevated temperatures. Different guides are fabricated by titanium indiffusion using iron-doped and nominally pure y-cutLiNbO3 substrates and characterization is performed by dark-mode spectroscopy. The refractive index modulation of gratings written and simultaneously fixed at 180 °C is investigated as a function of propagation depth, titanium and iron concentration. The complete set of self-consistent parameters of nominally undoped LiNbO3 crystals of congruent composition that describe the electro-optic, piezoelectric, elasto-optic, elastic, and dielectric response has been determined by numerically evaluating available measurements. The parameters were determined at room temperature and consist of the low-frequency clamped dielectric constants εS ij, elastic stiffness constants at constant electric field CE ijkl, piezoelectric stress coefficients eijk, elasto-optic constants at constant electric field pE ijkl, and clamped electro-optic coefficients rS ijk. It is shown that the complete set is required for calculating the effective electro-optic coefficients and dielectric constants in photorefractive applications of LiNbO3. We propose a new holographic memory scheme based on random-phase-coded multiplexing in a photorefractive LiNbO3:Fe crystal. Experimental results show that rotating a diffuser placed as a random-phase modulator in the path of the reference beam provides a simple yet effective method of increasing the holographic storage capabilities of the crystal. Combining this rotational multiplexing with angular multiplexing offers further data-storage possibilities.  Within the framework of electric dipole approximation, the focused light spot produced by a tiny optical fiber tip in front of a phase conjugate mirror is investigated numerically. The fiber tip is the probe of a reflection scanning near field optical microscope and the incident light is guided through the fiber. Intensity distribution of local field is calculated in the half space where the fiber tip locates. Both homogeneous (q ≤ω/c 0) and part of inhomogeneous (ω/c 0<q ≤ωn/c 0) fields are included in establishing a field propagator (Green’s function) which is employed to calculate the local field distribution. The local field forms at the tip position a diffraction light spot with a finite central value and a finite size, and when the tip-surface distance is sufficient small, the strength and the shape of the light spot become a function of the distance, which is due to the contribution of evanescent field.  We present experimental evidence of the NonLinear Hanle Effect (NLHE) on the 488 nm transition in an active discharge of an argon laser.  The paper shows that it is possible to evaluate the thermal conductivity of porous silicon layers by a conventional photoacoustic gas-microphone technique, on the basis of a simple interpretative model for stratified samples. Samples produced by electrochemical etching of crystalline wafers of different type and thickness are considered. The frequency variation of photoacoustic signal, in amplitude and phase, is studied and interpreted by means of a four-layers (air, porous silicon, crystalline silicon, air) model. LiNbO3:Zn single crystals and powders were studied by precise X-ray diffraction methods. Structural refinement yielded new models of the intrinsic defect structure valid for different Zn concentration ranges. For concentrations up to 7 at. % in the crystal, Zn ions incorporate onto Li sites; at higher concentrations Zn ions are found on both Li and Nb sites. Photorefractive properties of LiNbO3:Zn are discussed in the context of the deduced defect models. A smooth increase in the photoconductivity up to 7 at. % Zn is accounted for by a decrease of Nb antisites. Steeper growth of the photoconductivity at higher Zn concentrations is related to vanishing Li vacancies.  Thin SiC films have been deposited on silicon(0 0 1) substrates by fullerene-carbonization. Using synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction pole figure measurements have been employed in order to study the texture of the layers. It is qualitatively shown that the films contain epitaxially aligned β-SiC crystallites with the same orientation as the underlying substrate and their twins of first and second order. The orientational spread of the epitaxial crystallites in terms of tilt against and rotation around the substrate normal is smaller than 3°. The formation of twins as a growth defect plays a major role which is even more pronounced at a higher substrate temperature. Furthermore, an additional preferred orientation has been identified which can only be explained by a non-cubic SiC phase. The portion of these crystallites in the film can be considerably reduced by an increase of the deposition temperature. Received: 18 April 1996/Accepted: 12 August 1996  相似文献

The electro-optic coefficient, r33, of proton exchanged LiNbO3 waveguides has been measured in well-defined phases of the exchanged layer. Namely, in two low index-jump α-phases, i.e. unannealed soft-exchanged (SPE) and annealed (APE) guides, and in two high index-jump phases, i.e. β1 guides and, for comparison, ordinary proton exchanged (PE) guides (having a mixture of phases). The following values have been obtained (in pm/V): 22.1±0.6 for SPE; 20.9±0.7 for APE; 0.33±0.01 for β1; and 0.76±0.04 for PE.
