The integration of scheduling workers to perform tasks with the traditional vehicle routing problem gives rise to the workforce scheduling and routing problems (WSRP). In the WSRP, a number of service technicians with different skills, and tasks at different locations with pre-defined time windows and skill requirements are given. It is required to find an assignment and ordering of technicians to tasks, where each task is performed within its time window by a technician with the required skill, for which the total cost of the routing is minimized. This paper describes an iterated local search (ILS) algorithm for the WSRP. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated on benchmark instances against an off-the-shelf optimizer and an existing adaptive large neighbourhood search algorithm. The proposed ILS algorithm is also applied to solve the skill vehicle routing problem, which can be viewed as a special case of the WSRP. The computational results indicate that the proposed algorithm can produce high-quality solutions in short computation times.  相似文献

This paper addresses a field technician scheduling problem faced by many service providers in telecommunication industry. The problem is to assign a set of jobs, at different locations with time windows, to a group of field technicians with different job skills. Such a problem can be viewed as a generalization of the well-known vehicle routing problem with time windows since technician skills need to be matched with job types. We designed and tested several heuristic procedures for solving the problem, namely a greedy heuristic, a local search algorithm, and a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP). Our computational results indicate that GRASP is the most effective among them but requires more CPU time. However, the unique structure of GRASP allows us to exploit parallelism to achieve linear speed-up with respect to the number of machines used.  相似文献

Pairwise route synchronization constraints are commonly encountered in the field of service technician routing and scheduling and in the area of mobile care. Pairwise route synchronization refers to constraints that require that two technicians or home care workers visit the same location at exactly the same time. We consider constraints of this type in the context of the well-known vehicle routing problem with time windows and a generic service technician routing and scheduling problem. Different approaches for dealing with the problem of pairwise route synchronization are compared and several ways of integrating a synchronization component into a metaheuristic algorithm tailored to the original problems are analyzed. When applied to benchmark instances from the literature, our algorithm matches almost all available optimal values and it produces several new best results for the remaining instances.

We consider a real problem faced by a large company providing repair services of office machines in Santiago, Chile. In a typical day about twenty technicians visit seventy customers in a predefined service area in Santiago. We design optimal routes for technicians by considering travel times, soft time windows for technician arrival times at client locations, and fixed repair times. A branch-and-price algorithm was developed, using a constraint branching strategy proposed by Ryan and Foster along with constraint programming in the column generation phase. The column generation takes advantage of the fact that each technician can satisfy no more than five to six service requests per day. Different instances of the problem were solved to optimality in a reasonable computational time, and the results obtained compare favorably with the current practice.  相似文献

When vehicle routing problems with additional constraints, such as capacity or time windows, are solved via column generation and branch-and-price, it is common that the pricing subproblem requires the computation of a minimum cost constrained path on a graph with costs on the arcs and prizes on the vertices. A common solution technique for this problem is dynamic programming. In this paper we illustrate how the basic dynamic programming algorithm can be improved by bounded bi-directional search and we experimentally evaluate the effectiveness of the enhancement proposed. We consider as benchmark problems the elementary shortest path problems arising as pricing subproblems in branch-and-price algorithms for the capacitated vehicle routing problem, the vehicle routing problem with distribution and collection and the capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows.  相似文献

In real life distribution of goods, relatively long service times may make it difficult to serve all requests during regular working hours. These difficulties are even greater if the beginning of the service in each demand site must occur within a time window and violations of routing time restrictions are particularly undesirable. We address this situation by considering a variant of the vehicle routing problem with time windows for which, besides routing and scheduling decisions, a number of extra deliverymen can be assigned to each route in order to reduce service times. This problem appears, for example, in the distribution of beverage and tobacco in highly dense Brazilian urban areas. We present a mathematical programming formulation for the problem, as well as a tabu search and an ant colony optimization heuristics for obtaining minimum cost routes. The performance of the model and the heuristic approaches are evaluated using instances generated from a set of classic examples from the literature.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the open vehicle routing problem with time windows (OVRPTW). The OVRPTW seeks to find a set of non-depot returning vehicle routes, for a fleet of capacitated vehicles, to satisfy customers’ requirements, within fixed time intervals that represent the earliest and latest times during the day that customers’ service can take place. We formulate a comprehensive mathematical model to capture all aspects of the problem, and incorporate in the model all critical practical concerns. The model is solved using a greedy look-ahead route construction heuristic algorithm, which utilizes time windows related information via composite customer selection and route-insertion criteria. These criteria exploit the interrelationships between customers, introduced by time windows, that dictate the sequence in which vehicles must visit customers. Computational results on a set of benchmark problems from the literature provide very good results and indicate the applicability of the methodology in real-life routing applications.  相似文献

This article deals with a particular class of routing problem, consisting of the planning and routing of technicians in the field. This problem has been identified as a multiperiod, multidepot uncapacitated vehicle routing problem with specific constraints that we call the multiperiod field service routing problem (MPFSRP). We propose a set covering formulation of the problem for the column generation technique and we develop an exact branch and price solution method for small-sized instances. We also propose several heuristic versions for larger instances. We present the results of experiments on realistic data adapted from an industrial application.  相似文献

We study a vehicle routing problem with soft time windows and stochastic travel times. In this problem, we consider stochastic travel times to obtain routes which are both efficient and reliable. In our problem setting, soft time windows allow early and late servicing at customers by incurring some penalty costs. The objective is to minimize the sum of transportation costs and service costs. Transportation costs result from three elements which are the total distance traveled, the number of vehicles used and the total expected overtime of the drivers. Service costs are incurred for early and late arrivals; these correspond to time-window violations at the customers. We apply a column generation procedure to solve this problem. The master problem can be modeled as a classical set partitioning problem. The pricing subproblem, for each vehicle, corresponds to an elementary shortest path problem with resource constraints. To generate an integer solution, we embed our column generation procedure within a branch-and-price method. Computational results obtained by experimenting with well-known problem instances are reported.  相似文献

This work deals with a new combinatorial optimization problem, the two-dimensional loading capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows which is a realistic extension of the well known vehicle routing problem. The studied problem consists in determining vehicle trips to deliver rectangular objects to a set of customers with known time windows, using a homogeneous fleet of vehicles, while ensuring a feasible loading of each vehicle used. Since it includes NP-hard routing and packing sub-problems, six heuristics are firstly designed to quickly compute good solutions for realistic instances. They are obtained by combining algorithms for the vehicle routing problem with time windows with heuristics for packing rectangles. Then, a Memetic algorithm is developed to improve the heuristic solutions. The quality and the efficiency of the proposed heuristics and metaheuristic are evaluated by adding time windows to a set of 144 instances with 15–255 customers and 15–786 items, designed by Iori et al. (Transport Sci 41:253–264, 2007) for the case without time windows.  相似文献

This paper presents a unified tabu search heuristic for the vehicle routing problem with time windows and for two important generalizations: the periodic and the multi-depot vehicle routing problems with time windows. The major benefits of the approach are its speed, simplicity and flexibility. The performance of the heuristic is assessed by comparing it to alternative methods on benchmark instances of the vehicle routing problem with time windows. This paper is the first to discuss the communal home meal delivery problem. The problem can be modelled as a multiple travelling salesman problem with time windows, that is closely related to the well-studied vehicle routing problem with time windows. Experimental results are reported for a real-life case study from Central Finland over several alternative scenarios using the SPIDER commercial solver. The comparison with current practice reveals that a significant savings potential can be obtained using off-the-shelf optimization tools. As such, the potential for supporting real-life communal routing problems can be considered to be important for VRP practitioners.  相似文献

In the Home Care Crew Scheduling Problem a staff of home carers has to be assigned a number of visits to patients’ homes, such that the overall service level is maximised. The problem is a generalisation of the vehicle routing problem with time windows. Required travel time between visits and time windows of the visits must be respected. In this paper, we address a variant of the vehicle routing problem called the vehicle routing problem with time windows and multiple routes. It considers that a given vehicle can be assigned to more than one route per planning period. We propose a new exact algorithm for this problem. Our algorithm is iterative and it relies on a pseudo-polynomial network flow model whose nodes represent time instants, and whose arcs represent feasible vehicle routes. This algorithm was tested on a set of benchmark instances from the literature. The computational results show that our method is able to solve more instances than the only other exact method described so far in the literature, and it clearly outperforms this method in terms of computing time.  相似文献

In the stochastic variant of the vehicle routing problem with time windows, known as the SVRPTW, travel times are assumed to be stochastic. In our chance-constrained approach to the problem, restrictions are placed on the probability that individual time window constraints are violated, while the objective remains based on traditional routing costs. In this paper, we propose a way to offer this probability, or service level, for all customers. Our approach carefully considers how to compute the start-service time and arrival time distributions for each customer. These distributions are used to create a feasibility check that can be “plugged” into any algorithm for the VRPTW and thus be used to solve large problems fairly quickly. Our computational experiments show how the solutions change for some well-known data sets across different levels of customer service, two travel time distributions, and several parameter settings.  相似文献

Just-in-time (JIT) trucking service, i.e., arriving at customers within specified time windows, has become the norm for freight carriers in all stages of supply chains. In this paper, a JIT pickup/delivery problem is formulated as a stochastic dynamic traveling salesman problem with time windows (SDTSPTW). At a customer location, the vehicle either picks up goods for or delivers goods from the depot, but does not provide moving service to transfer goods from one location to another. Such routing problems are NP-hard in deterministic settings, and in our context, complicated further by the stochastic, dynamic nature of the problem. This paper develops an efficient heuristic for the SDTSPTW with hard time windows. The heuristic is shown to be useful both in controlled numerical experiments and in applying to a real-life trucking problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a technique for integrating information about future customer requests to improve decision making for dynamic vehicle routing. We use a co-evolutionary approach to generate better waiting strategies such that the expected number of late-request customers who are served is maximized. An empirical evaluation of the proposed approach is performed within a previously reported hybrid genetic algorithm for the dynamic vehicle routing problem with time windows. Comparisons with other heuristic methods demonstrate the potential improvement that can be obtained through the application of the proposed approach.  相似文献

The vehicle routing problem with multiple use of vehicles is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem. It arises when each vehicle performs several routes during the workday due to strict time limits on route duration (e.g., when perishable goods are transported). The routes are defined over customers with a revenue, a demand and a time window. Given a fixed-size fleet of vehicles, it might not be possible to serve all customers. Thus, the customers must be chosen based on their associated revenue minus the traveling cost to reach them. We introduce a branch-and-price approach to address this problem where lower bounds are computed by solving the linear programming relaxation of a set packing formulation, using column generation. The pricing subproblems are elementary shortest path problems with resource constraints. Computational results are reported on euclidean problems derived from well-known benchmark instances for the vehicle routing problem with time windows.  相似文献
