Reaction of the bis-bidentate bridging ligand L(3), in which two bidentate chelating 3(2-pyridyl)pyrazole units are separated by a 3,3'-biphenyl spacer, with Co(II) salts affords tetranuclear cage complexes of composition [Co(4)(L(3))(6)]X(8)(X =[BF(4)](-), [ClO(4)](-), [PF(6)](-) or I(-)) in which four 6-coordinate Co(II) ions in an approximately tetrahedral array are connected by six bis-bidentate bridging ligands, one spanning each of the six edges of the Co(4) tetrahedron. In every case, X-ray crystallography reveals that the 'apical' Co(II) ion has a fac tris-chelate geometry, whereas the other three Co(II) ions have mer tris-chelate geometries, resulting in (non-crystallographic)C(3) symmetry for the cages; that this structure is retained in solution is confirmed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy of the paramagnetic cages. In every case one of the anions is located inside the central cavity of the cage, with the remaining seven outside. We found no clear evidence for an anion-based templating effect. The cage superstructure is sufficiently large to leave gaps in the centres of the faces through which the internal and external anions can exchange. Variable-temperature (19)F NMR spectroscopy was used to investigate the dynamic behaviour of the cages with X =[BF(4)](-) and [PF(6)](-) in MeCN solution: in both cases two separate signals, corresponding to external and internal anions, are clear at 233 K which have coalesced to a single signal at room temperature. Analysis of the linewidth of the minor signal (for the internal anion) at various temperatures below coalescence gave an activation energy for anion exchange of ca. 50 kJ mol(-1) in each case, a figure which suggests that anion exchange can occur via a conformational rearrangement of the cage superstructure in solution rather than opening of the cavity by cleavage of metal-ligand bonds.  相似文献

The reactions of cobalt(II) halides and flexible ligand L [L=1,3-bis(pyrid-4-ylthio)propan-2-one] under different conditions generated a series of complexes with various structural motifs ranging from tetragonal-prismatic cages to 1-3D coordination polymers. The layer diffusion of cobalt(II) chloride and L in methanol/acetone at 25 degrees C gave rise to a 3D polymer, [Co(L)2Cl2].Me2CO. At 30 degrees C, the slow diffusion of diethyl ether into the blue dimethylformamide (DMF) solution of complex 1 afforded a 1D polymer, Co(L)Cl2(DMF)2. However, at 10 degrees C, the diffusion of diethyl ether into the DMF solution of complex 1 produced a tetragonal-prismatic cage, [Co2(L)4Cl2]Cl2.Et2O.DMF.2MeOH.4H2O. The reaction of cobalt(II) bromide and L in DMF at 10 degrees C yielded a dimer, [Co2(L)4Br2]Br2.6DMF.2H2O, with a cage structure similar to. The preparation of the series of compounds indicates the subtle relationship between structures and tunable reaction conditions. It is also found that the structural motifs vary according to the ligand conformations and that the formation of tetragonal-prismatic cages and may be templated by anionic guests. Magnetic studies on complexes in a temperature range 4-300 K disclose that L is unfavorable for a long-range magnetic interaction; however, intramolecular spin-coupling constants of -19.6 and -21.5 cm-1 for and indicate rather strong magnetic superexchanges arising from the overlap of the dz2 orbitals of the cobalt(II) and pz orbitals of the encapsulated halide anions. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of complexes 3 and 4 in solution and solid give information that both complexes are high-spin cobalt(II) compounds with a rhombic distortion of the axial zero-field splitting. Interestingly, the intramolecular magnetic-exchange coupling in 3 and 4 mediated by the encapsulated anion Cl- or Br- is also reflected by the EPR spectra.  相似文献

Abstract On irradiation of solutions of anthryl-substituted cobalt(III) cage complexes, [(l-(anthryl-9-methylamino)-8-methyl-3,6,10,13,16,19-hexaazabicyclo [6.6.6] eicosane) cobalt(III)]3+ or [(l-(4-an-thryl-9)-3-aza-butyl-l-amino)-8-methyl-3,6,10,13,16,19-hexaazabicyclo [6.6.6] eicosane)cobalt (III)]3* in the presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and platinum catalysts hydrogen was produced. These complexes act as coupled photosensitizers (anthracene moiety) and electron relays (cobalt cage) to produce H2 via energy trapping and intramolecular electron transfer initially. The intensity of fluorescence and the photochemical reactivity favour the latter complex and the excited singlet state of the anthracene chromophore is invoked as the intermediate state leading to the reduction of Co(III) to Co(II).  相似文献

Subtle differences in metal–ligand bond lengths between a series of [M4L6]4? tetrahedral cages, where M=FeII, CoII, or NiII, were observed to result in substantial differences in affinity for hydrophobic guests in water. Changing the metal ion from iron(II) to cobalt(II) or nickel(II) increases the size of the interior cavity of the cage and allows encapsulation of larger guest molecules. NMR spectroscopy was used to study the recognition properties of the iron(II) and cobalt(II) cages towards small hydrophobic guests in water, and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction was used to study the solid‐state complexes of the iron(II) and nickel(II) cages.  相似文献

The heterovalent trinuclear cobalt complexes [Co2IIIL4 i · CoII(H2O)4] · nXmY (L i are deprotonated Schiff bases derived from substituted salicylaldehydes and β-alanine; i = 1–3) were obtained and characterized. An X-ray diffraction study of the trinuclear cobalt complex with N-(2-carboxyethyl)salicylaldimine showed that the central Co(II) ion and the terminal Co(III) ions are linked by bridging carboxylate groups. Either terminal Co(III) atom is coordinated to two ligand molecules. They form an octahedral environment consisting of two azomethine N atoms, two phenolate O atoms, and two O atoms of two carboxylate groups. The central Co(II) atom is coordinated to four water molecules and to two O atoms of two bridging carboxylate ligands involved in the coordination sphere of the terminal Co(III) atoms.  相似文献

Reaction of cobalt salts with phosphonic acids in the presence of 6-chloro-2-hydroxypyridine as a co-ligand, normally in its deprotonated form, leads to a series of new polymetallic cobalt cages. The most common structural type is a {Co(14)} cage which resembles a fragment of cobalt hydroxide. Variation of the phosphonate present and the cobalt salt leads to {Co(6)}, {Co(8)}, {Co(10)}, {Co(11)}, {Co(12)}, {Co(13)}, and {Co(20)} cages, all of which have been characterized by X-ray crystallography. Magnetic studies of these cages show a general decline in the product chi(m)T with T, but for {Co(6)}, {Co(8)}, and {Co(12)} there are maxima at low temperature, which suggests nondiamagnetic ground states. Investigation of the dynamic behavior of the magnetization of these complexes shows that the octanuclear cage displays slow relaxation of magnetization.  相似文献

Electronic interactions and metal-metal communication in a wide range of cobaltacarborane-hydrocarbon complexes containing one to six metal centers, and exhibiting a variety of modes of inter-cage connectivity and molecular architectures, have been investigated via cyclic voltammetry, controlled potential coulometry, and UV-visible spectroelectrochemistry. The properties of mixed-valent Co(III)/Co(IV) and Co(II)/Co(III) species that are generated on oxidation or reduction of dinuclear and polynuclear Co(III) complexes were examined and classified as Robin-Day Class I (localized), Class II (partially delocalized), or Class III (fully delocalized) systems. The extent of metal-metal communication between metallacarborane cage units is strongly influenced by the type of intercage connection (e.g., cage B-B or Cp-Cp); the vertexes involved (equatorial vs apical); the nature of the linking unit, if any; and the presence of substituents on the carborane cages. In multi-tripledecker complexes where three CpCo(C(2)B(3)H(4))CoCp units are linked through a central triethynyl benzene connector, the data suggest that Co-Co electronic communication is extensive (Class III) within individual sandwich units while intersandwich delocalization is weak or absent. An extended Hückel study of CpCoC(2)B(4)H(6) double-decker and CpCo(C(2)B(3)H(5))CoCp triple-decker sandwich model complexes shows significant differences in the orbital contributions involved in the HOMO and LUMO of the former vs the latter type. The calculations afford additional insight into the electronic structures and properties of these systems as elucidated by the experimental studies.  相似文献

Cobalt(II) complexes of poly(aryl ester) dendrimer porphyrins (m-[Gn]TPP)Co(II) and (p-[Gn]TPP)Co(II) (n = 0-3) underwent AIBN-initiated alkylation (AIBN = 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile)) at the metal center with propargyl alcohol in CDCl(3) at 60 degrees C, where the dendritic substituents did not affect the overall conversion rate but selectivity of the alkylation. With the largest (m-[G3]TPP)Co(II), a single organocobalt(III) species (Co(III)-C(=CH(2))CH(2)OH, 4) was selectively formed in 91% yield, due to a steric protection of 4 by the large dendrimer cage from the access of another molecule of cobalt porphyrin species. In contrast, with other cobalt(II) porphyrins, isomerized compounds such as Co(III)-C(CH(3))=CHOH (5) and Co(III)-CH(CH(3))CHO (6) were formed in addition to 4. A stereochemical investigation with (m-[G3]TPP)Co(II) using AIBN-d(12), in place of nondeuterated AIBN, demonstrated that the alkylation (cobalt(III) hydride addition to propargyl alcohol) is selective to a trans adduct. Results also indicated that this addition step does not involve external activation of propargyl alcohol.  相似文献

The ligand 1,4,7-tris(acetophenoneoxime)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (H(3)L) has been synthesized and its coordination properties toward Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Mn(II) in the presence of air have been investigated. Copper(II) yields a mononuclear complex, [Cu(H(2)L)](ClO(4)) (1), cobalt(II) and manganese(II) ions yield mixed-valence Co(III)(2)Co(II) (2a) and Mn(II)(2)Mn(III) (4) complexes, whereas nickel(II) produces a tetranuclear [Ni(4)(HL)(3)](2+) (3) complex. The complexes have been structurally, magnetochemically, and spectroscopically characterized. Complex 3, a planar trigonal-shaped tetranuclear Ni(II) species, exhibits irregular spin-ladder. Variable-temperature (2-290 K) magnetic susceptibility analysis of 3 demonstrates antiferromagnetic exchange interactions (J = -13.4 cm(-1)) between the neighboring Ni(II) ions, which lead to the ground-state S(t) = 2.0 owing to the topology of the spin-carriers in 3. A bulk ferromaganetic interaction (J = +2 cm(-1)) is prevailing between the neighboring high-spin Mn(II) and high-spin Mn(III) ions leading to a ground state of S(t) = 7.0 for 4. The large ground-state spin value of S(t) = 7.0 has been confirmed by magnetization measurements at applied magnetic fields of 1, 4 and 7 T. A bridging monomethyl carbonato ligand formation occurs through an efficient CO(2) uptake from air in methanolic solutions containing a base in the case of complex 4.  相似文献

A tale of two polyhedra: Two nested Archimedean metal-organic polyhedra, a rhombicuboctahedron (Co(48) cage) and a cuboctahedron (Co(24) cage), have been assembled from two types of cobalt dimers and two complementary ligands. Within the 3D covalent cubic array of outer Co(48) cages and framework lie encapsulated inner Co(24) cages that are linked into a separate "hidden" 3D framework.  相似文献

Structural details are reported for the linear dinuclear complexes [Ni2(2poap)2(H2O)2](NO3)4 . 2CH3OH . 2.5H2O (1), [Mn2(pttp)(NO3)2(CH3OH)2(H2O)2](NO3)2 . H2O (2) and [Mn2(mapttp)2(NO3)2(H2O)2](NO3)2 . 10H2O (3), a square tetranuclear complex [Co4(pttp)4]Br6 . 9H2O (4), a tetranuclear tetrahedral complex [Ni4(pttp)6](BF4)6F2 . 14H2O (7), and a mixed spin state tetranuclear Ni(II) complex [(2pyoap)2Ni4(CH3OH)4] . 1.5CH3OH (10), with a diamond-like arrangement of metal ions. The paramagnetic metal centers are well separated in each case, leading to weak antiferromagnetic coupling or non-existent spin exchange.  相似文献

Wormlike micelles from a cage amine metallosurfactant   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have shown that copper and cobalt metallosurfactants derived from Cu(II) and Co(III) complexes of a macrobicyclic hexamine ("cage") can form wormlike micelles in aqueous solution that may coexist with or easily interconvert with vesicle structures. The cylindrical micelle structures are unusual for triple-chain surfactants with a single headgroup and are not easily accounted for using geometrical packing arguments. The solution behavior has been characterized by cryo-TEM and SAXS measurements. Both the Cu and Co compounds display viscoelastic solutions at 1 wt %, indicating that such behavior may be anticipated for the full variety of stable metal complexes formed by the cage headgroup, auguring applications based on the incorporation of metallo aggregates into mesoporous silica structures.  相似文献

Tetranuclear [Co-Gd](2) complexes were prepared by using trianionic ligands possessing amide, imine, and phenol functions. The structural determinations show that the starting cobalt complexes present square planar or square pyramid environments that are preserved in the final tetranuclear [Co-Gd](2) complexes. These geometrical modifications of the cobalt coordination spheres induce changes in the cobalt spin ground states, going from S = 1/2 in the square planar to S = 3/2 for the square pyramid environments. Depending on the ligand, the complexes display antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic Co(II)-Gd(III) interactions. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility-temperature products indicate that the Co-Gd interaction is ferromagnetic when high spin Co ions are concerned and antiferromagnetic in the case of low spin Co ions. This different magnetic behavior can be explained if we observe that the singly occupied σ d(x(2)-y(2)) orbital is populated (S = 3/2 Co ions) or unoccupied (S = 1/2 Co ions). Such an observation furnishes invaluable information for the understanding of the more general 3d-4f magnetic interactions.  相似文献

The photoisomerization properties of tris(bipyridine)cobalt complexes containing six or three azobenzene moieties, namely, [Co(II)(dmAB)3](BF4)2 [dmAB = 4,4'-bis[3'-(4'-tolylazo)phenyl]-2,2'-bipyridine], [Co(III)(dmAB)3](BF4)3, [Co(II)(mAB)3](BF4)2 [mAB = 4-[3' '-(4' '-tolylazo)phenyl]-2,2'-bipyridine], and [Co(III)(dmAB)3](BF4)3, derived from the effect of gathering azobenzenes in one molecule and the effect of the cobalt(II) or cobalt(III) ion were investigated using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, femtosecond transient spectroscopy, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. In the photostationary state of these four complexes, nearly 50% of the trans-azobenzene moieties of the Co(II) complexes were converted to the cis isomer, and nearly 10% of the trans-azobenzene moieties of the Co(III) complexes isomerized to the cis isomer, implying that the cis isomer ratio in the photostationary state upon irradiation at 365 nm is controlled not by the number of azobenzene moieties in one molecule but rather by the oxidation state of the cobalt ions. The femtosecond transient absorption spectra of the ligands and the complexes suggested that the photoexcited states of the azobenzene moieties in the Co(III) complexes were strongly deactivated by electron transfer from the azobenzene moiety to the cobalt center to form an azobenzene radical cation and a Co(II) center. The cooperation among the photochemical structural changes of six azobenzene moieties in [Co(II)(dmAB)3](BF4)2 was investigated with 1H NMR spectroscopy. The time-course change in the 1H NMR signals of the methyl protons indicated that each azobenzene moiety in [Co(II)(dmAB)3](BF4)2 isomerized to a cis isomer with a random probability of 50% and without interactions among the azobenzene moieties.  相似文献

A new diazine tetratopic helicand, H4L, is obtained from 3-formylsalicylic acid and hydrazine. The reaction between H4L and cobalt(II) perchlorate, iron(III) perchlorate, and sodium carbonate leads to triple-stranded tetranuclear anionic helicates, [L3Co(II)2Fe(III)2]2-, which are connected through Na ions, resulting in chiral coordination polymers, [L3Na2Fe2Co2(H2O)4(EtOH)2].3H2O.  相似文献

The tetradentate ligand L(naph) contains two N-donor bidentate pyrazolyl-pyridine units connected to a 1,8-naphthyl core via methylene spacers; L45 and L56 are chiral ligands with a structure similar to that of L(naph) but bearing pinene groups fused to either C4 and C5 or C5 and C6 of the terminal pyridyl rings. The complexes [Cu(L(naph))](OTf) and [Ag(L(naph))](BF4) have unremarkable mononuclear structures, with Cu(I) being four-coordinate and Ag(I) being two-coordinate with two additional weak interactions (i.e., "2 + 2" coordinate). In contrast, [Cu4(L(naph))4][BF4]4 is a cyclic tetranuclear helicate with a tetrafluoroborate anion in the central cavity, formed by an anion-templating effect; electrospray mass spectrometry (ESMS) spectra show the presence of other cyclic oligomers in solution. The chiral ligands show comparable behavior, with [Cu(L45)](BF4) and [Ag(L45)](ClO4) having similar mononuclear crystal structures and with the ligands being tetradentate chelates. In contrast, [Ag4(L56)4](BF4)4 is a cyclic tetranuclear helicate in which both diastereomers of the complex are present in the crystal; the two diastereomers have similar gross geometries but are significantly different in detail. Despite their different crystal structures, [Ag(L45)](ClO4) and [Ag4(L56)4](BF4)4 behave similarly in solution according to ESMS studies, with a range of cyclic oligomers (up to Ag9L9) forming. With transition-metal dications Co(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II), L(naph) generates a series of unusual dodecanuclear coordination cages [M12(L(naph))18]X24 (X- = ClO4- or BF4-) in which the 12 metal ions occupy the vertices of a truncated tetrahedron and a bridging ligand spans each of the 18 edges. The central cavity of each cage can accommodate four counterions, and each cage molecule is chiral, with all 12 metal trischelates being homochiral; the crystals are racemic. Extensive aromatic stacking between ligands around the periphery of the cages appears to be a significant factor in their assembly. The chiral analogue L45 forms the simpler tetranuclear, tetrahedral coordination cage [Zn4(L45)6](ClO4)(8), with one anion in the central cavity; the steric bulk of the pinene chiral auxiliaries prevents the formation of a dodecanuclear cage, although trace amounts of [Zn12(L45)18](ClO4)24 can be detected in solution by ESMS. Formation of [Zn4(L45)6](ClO4)8 is diastereoselective, with the chirality of the pinene groups controlling the chirality of the tetranuclear cage.  相似文献

A structurally diverse array of polynuclear complexes has been identified and structurally characterized from the reaction of 6-methylpyridine-2-methanol (1) with a range of cobalt(II) salts under a variety of reaction conditions. A tetranuclear cubane, [Co4(1-H)4Cl4(H2O)3(CH3OH)], was isolated from the reaction of 1 with CoCl2.6H2O and NaOH in MeOH, and a tetranuclear double cubane, [Co4(1-H)6(NO3)2], was isolated from the reaction of 1 with Co(NO3)2.6H2O and NEt3 in MeOH. A bowl-shaped trinuclear complex, [Co3(1-H)3Cl3(dmso)], which features a triply bridging dmso ligand, assembled upon mixing 1 and CoCl2.6H2O in dmso. A 1-D coordination polymer, [Co(1)2(SO4)](infinity), where the sulfate ligands bridge "[Co(1)2]" units in a mu2:eta1 fashion to build up the polymer structure, was isolated from the reaction of 1 with CoSO4.7H2O. The reaction of the structurally related ligand 8-hydroxyquinaldine (2) with a mixture of CoCl2.6H2O and Co(OAc)2.4H2O lead to the formation of the tetranuclear double cubane, [Co4(2-H)6Cl2]. Temperature-dependent magnetic measurements have also been performed for these five complexes along with the hydrogen-bonded helicate [Co2(1)2(1-H)2]. The hydrogen bonds of the helicate mediate antiferromagnetic interactions between the cobalt(II) centers (J = -3.18(9) cm(-1), g = 2.25(2)). The sulfate bridging ligands of [Co(1)2(SO4)](infinity) are poor mediators of magnetic exchange. The Co(II) centers in the double-cubane complexes [Co4(1-H)6(NO3)2] and [Co4(2-H)6Cl2] are strongly antiferromagnetically coupled to each other at low temperature to give an S = 0 ground state. [Co4(1-H)4Cl4(H2O)3(MeOH)] exhibits rather complicated magnetic behavior; however, we did not observe any evidence for single-molecule magnetism as was seen for structurally related complexes.  相似文献

The three novel heterometallic complexes [CuCo(III)Co(II)(2)(MeDea)(3)Cl(3)(CH(3)OH)(0.55)(H(2)O)(0.45)](H(2)O)(0.45) (1), [CuCo(III)Zn(2)(MeDea)(3)Cl(3)(CH(3)OH)(0.74)(H(2)O)(0.26)](H(2)O)(0.26) (2), and [CuCo(III)Zn(2)(MeDea)(3)Cl(3)(DMF)] (3) have been prepared using a one-pot reaction of copper powder with cobalt chloride (1) and zinc nitrate (2, 3) in a methanol (1, 2) or dimethylformamide (3) solution of N-methyldiethanolamine. A search of the Cambridge Structural Database shows that the tetranuclear asymmetric cores M(4)(μ(3)-X)(μ-X)(5) of 1-3 represent an extremely rare case of M(4)X(6) arrays. The magnetic investigations of 1 disclose antiferromagnetic coupling in a Co(II)-Cu(II)-Co(II) exchange fragment with J(Co-Cu)/hc = -4.76 cm(-1), J(Co-Co)/hc = -2.76 cm(-1), and D(Co)/hc = +34.3 cm(-1). Compounds 1-3 act as precursors for the mild peroxidative oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone with overall yields up to 23%. The synthetic and structural features as well as the thermogravimetric behavior and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry data are discussed.  相似文献
