The synthesis of new stimulus-responsive block copolymer gelators using atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP) in either methanol or 2-propanol/water mixtures at 20 °C is described. Bifunctional and trifunctional initiators were used to prepare ABA triblock and I(BA)3 three-arm star diblock copolymers, respectively, using a ‘one-pot’ ATRP protocol, in which the central block comprised poly(glycerol monomethacrylate) and the outer blocks comprised pH-responsive poly[2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] or poly[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate]. These copolymers dissolve molecularly in acidic solution but formed free-standing gels at around neutral pH on addition of base. Gel strength was judged by both tube inversion experiments and shear rheometry measurements and a comparison between the linear and star architectures was made.  相似文献

The synthesis of diblock copolymer of tert butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate (PTBA‐b‐PMMA) was prepared by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP). At the outset, macroinitiator of tert butyl acrylate (TBA) was prepared by using N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) ligand, Cuprous Bromide (CuBr) catalyst, and ethyl 2‐bromo isobutyrate (2‐EiBBr) initiator. Immediately after the intake of the utmost TBA in the macroinitiator, the second monomer, methyl methacrylate (MMA) was added to the reaction medium, for further polymerization. In these experiments the compositions of the monomers were varied, although the concentrations of ligand, catalyst and the initiator were kept constant. Subsequently, the diblock copolymers were hydrolyzed, under acidic conditions, using HCl catalyst, to obtain an amphiphilic copolymer. These block copolymers were characterized by NMR, IR, GPC, and DSC techniques. These copolymers will be used in, powder coatings, pigment dispersions, and as compatibilizers in polymer blends.  相似文献

A series of novel stimuli-responsive AB, ABA, and BAB type block copolymers based on 6-O-methacryloyl-1,2:3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-d-galactopyranose (MAIpGP:A block) and 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA: B block) were synthesized via ATRP techniques using ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate (EBiB) as monofunctional ATRP initiator in the case of diblock copolymer and diethyl meso-2,5-dibromoadipate (DEDBA) as bifunctional ATRP initiator in the case of triblock copolymers. The PMAIpGP blocks of the AB, ABA, and BAB type linear block copolymers were converted to water soluble PMAGP blocks via deprotection process under mild acidic conditions. Both proton NMR and DLS studies demonstrated that block copolymers were temperature-sensitive, whereby the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of polymers varied with the polymerization degrees of comonomers in the block copolymers. LCST was determined to be between ∼35 °C and 55 °C depending on the type and the comonomer compositions of the block copolymers. It was observed that an increase on the percentage of hydrophilic PMAGP block in block copolymer caused an increase on the LCST value as expected.  相似文献

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM)-based tetrafunctional atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) macroinitiator (1b) was synthesized via addition reaction of mono-amino-terminated PNIPAM (1a) with glycidol, followed by esterification with excess 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. Well-defined double hydrophilic miktoarm AB4 star copolymer, PNIPAM-b-(PDEA)4, was then synthesized by polymerizing 2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DEA) via ATRP in 2-propanol at 45 degrees C using 1b, where PDEA was poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate). For comparison, PNIPAM-b-PDEA linear diblock copolymer with comparable molecular weight and composition to that of PNIPAM-b-(PDEA)4 was prepared via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The pH- and thermoresponsive "schizophrenic" micellization behavior of the obtained PNIPAM65-b-(PDEA63)4 miktoarm star and PNIPAM70-b-PDEA260 linear diblock copolymers were investigated by 1H NMR and laser light scattering (LLS). In acidic solution and elevated temperatures, PNIPAM-core micelles were formed; whereas at slightly alkaline conditions and room temperature, structurally inverted PDEA-core micelles were formed. The size of the PDEA-core micelles of PNIPAM65-b-(PDEA63)4 is much smaller than that of PNIPAM70-b-PDEA260. Furthermore, the pH-induced micellization kinetics of the AB4 miktoarm star and AB block copolymers were investigated by the stopped-flow light scattering technique upon a pH jump from 4 to 10. Typical kinetic traces for the micellization of both types of copolymers can be well fitted with double-exponential functions, yielding a fast (tau1) and a slow (tau2) relaxation processes. tau1 for both copolymers decreased with increasing polymer concentration. tau2 was independent of polymer concentration for PNIPAM65-b-(PDEA63)4, whereas it decreased with increasing polymer concentration for PNIPAM70-b-PDEA260. The chain architectural effects on the micellization properties and the underlying mechanisms were discussed in detail.  相似文献

2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMA) was block copolymerized with methyl methacrylate (MMA) using group transfer polymerization to give four AB diblock, ABA triblock, and BAB triblock copolymers of low polydispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.20). In addition, a near-monodisperse styrene-functionalized DMA-based macromonomer was synthesized via oxyanionic polymerization using a potassium 4-vinylbenzyl alcoholate initiator. These five well-defined, tertiary amine methacrylate-based copolymers were evaluated as steric stabilizers for the synthesis of polystyrene latexes via emulsion and dispersion polymerization. The most efficient steric stabilizers proved to be the DMA-MMA diblock copolymer and the DMA-based macromonomer. The polystyrene latexes were characterized in terms of their particle size and morphology, stabilizer content, surface charge, and surface activity using dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, aqueous electrophoresis measurements, and surface tensiometry, respectively. The pH-dependent surface activity exhibited by selected latexes suggests potential applications as stimulus-responsive particulate emulsifiers for oil-in-water emulsions.  相似文献

A series of fluoroalkyl end-capped diblock copolymers of poly[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA or PDMA) and poly[2-(N,N-diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDEAEMA or PDEA) have been synthesized via oxyanion-initiated polymerization, in which a potassium alcoholate of 4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,7-nonafluoro-1-heptanol (NFHOK) was used as an initiator. The chemical structures of the NFHO-PDMA-b-PDEA and NFHO-PDEA-b-PDMA depended on the addition sequence of the two monomers and the feeding molar ratios of [DMA] to [DEA] during the polymerization process. These copolymers have been characterized by (1)H NMR and (19)F NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The aggregation behavior of these copolymers in aqueous solutions at different pH media was studied using a combination of surface tension, fluorescence probe, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Both diblock copolymers exhibited distinct pH/temperature-responsive properties. The critical aggregation concentrations (cacs) of these copolymers have been investigated, and the results showed that these copolymers possess excellent surface activity. Besides, these fluoroalkyl end-capped diblock copolymers showed pH-induced lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs) in water. TEM analysis indicated that the NFHO-PDMA(30)-b-PDEA(10) diblock copolymers can self-assemble into the multicompartment micelles in aqueous solutions under basic conditions, in which the pH value is higher than the pKa values of both PDMA and PDEA homopolymers, while the NFHO-PDEA(10)-b-PDMA(30) diblock copolymers can form flowerlike micelles in basic aqueous solution.  相似文献

Spectroscopic ellipsometry has been used to examine the pH-responsive interfacial adsorption of a series of biocompatible diblock copolymers incorporating 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine-based (MPC) residues and 2-(dialkylamino)ethyl methacrylate residues, with a specific focus on 2-(diethylamino)ethyl groups (referred to as MPCm-DEAn, where m and n refer to the mean degrees of polymerization of each block) at the hydrophilic silicon oxide/water interface. For all the copolymers studied the surface excess shows only weak concentration dependence. Increasing the length of the DEA block has little effect on the dynamic or equilibrated adsorption at pH 7, indicating that the DEA block adopts a flat conformation on the silicon oxide surface at this pH. With increasing pH, however, the surface excess shows a dramatic increase, followed by a subsequent decline. The observed maximum in surface excess represents a balance between charge over-compensation of the copolymer with the oppositely charged surface and the subsequently reduced charge density of the copolymer. Variations in the observed maxima for various MPCm-DEAn diblock copolymers indicate different surface conformations at high pH. Salt addition does not affect copolymer adsorption. This behavior is attractive for biomedical applications in which the ionic strength is variable. It was also found that the preadsorbed diblock copolymers immobilized DNA from solution to an extent that is proportional to the relative charge ratio between the anionic DNA and the cationic DEA block of the copolymer.  相似文献

Solubility parameters of water-soluble 2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DEA) homopolymer and [2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]-[2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate] (DEA–DMA) diblock copolymer were analyzed by inverse gas chromatography and values were compared to the solubility parameters of 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMA) homopolymer. Sorption thermodynamic parameters of some aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons, weight fraction activity coefficients, Flory–Huggins interaction parameters and solubility parameters for both hydrocarbons and polymers were calculated. It was observed that sorption thermodynamic parameters on (co)polymers depend on the molecular structures of hydrocarbons. Evaluating both the calculated values of the weight fraction activity coefficients and Flory–Huggins interaction parameters, the solving ability of the hydrocarbons for DEA, DMA homopolymers and DEA–DMA diblock copolymer decreased in the following sequence: aromatic > alicyclic > aliphatic hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Two pH-responsive amphiphilic diblock copolymers, namely polyisobutylene-block-poly[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PIB-b-PDMAEMA) and polyisobutylene-block-poly(metharylic acid) (PIB-b-PMAA), were synthesized via oxyanion-initiated polymerization, and their multiple self-assembly behaviors have been studied. An exo-olefin-terminated highly reactive polyisobutylene (HRPIB) was first changed to hydroxyl-terminated PIB (PIB-OH) via hydroboration-oxidation of C=C double bond in the chain end, and then reacted with KH to yield a potassium alcoholate of PIB (PIB-O-K+). PIB-O-K+ was immediately used as a macroinitiator to polymerize DMAEMA monomer, resulting in a cationic diblock copolymer PIB-b-PDMAEMA. With the similar synthesis procedure, the anionic diblock copolymer PIB-b-PMAA could be prepared via a combination of oxyanion-initiated polymerization of tert-butyl methacrylate (tBMA) and subsequent hydrolysis of tert-butyl ester groups in PtBMA block. The functional PIB and block copolymers have been fully characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). These samples allowed us to systematically investigate the effects of block composition on the pH responsivity and various self-assembled morphologies of the copolymers in THF/water mixed solvent. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images revealed that these diblock copolymers containing small amount of original PIB without exo-olefin-terminated group are able to self-assemble into micelles, vesicles with different particle sizes and cylindrical aggregates, depending on various factors including block copolymer composition, solvent polarity and pH value.  相似文献

A series of novel side‐chain liquid crystalline ABC triblock copolymers composed of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), polystyrene (PS), and poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐4′‐oxy‐azobenzene) hexyl methacrylate] (PMMAZO) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using CuBr/1,1,4,7,7‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as a catalyst system. First, the bromine‐terminated diblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (PEO‐PS‐Br) was prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macro‐initiator PEO‐Br, which was obtained from the esterification of PEO and 2‐bromo‐2‐methylpropionyl bromide. An azobenzene‐containing block of PMMAZO with different molecular weights was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP to synthesize the novel side‐chain liquid crystalline ABC triblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐4′‐oxy‐azobenzene) hexyl methacrylate] (PEO‐PS‐PMMAZO). These block copolymers were characterized using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). Their thermotropic phase behaviors were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscope (POM). These triblock copolymers exhibited a smectic phase and a nematic phase over a relatively wide temperature range. At the same time, the photoresponsive properties of these triblock copolymers in chloroform solution were preliminarily studied. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined, fluorinated diblock copolymers, poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐PTFMA), poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,3,4,4,4‐hexafluorobutyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐PHFMA), and poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5‐octafluoropentyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐POFMA), have been synthesized successfully via oxyanion‐initiated polymerization. Potassium benzyl alcoholate (BzO?K+) was used to initiate DMA monomer to yield the first block PDMA. If not quenched, the first living chain could be subsequently used to initiate a feed F‐monomer (such as TFMA, HFMA, or OFMA) to produce diblock copolymers containing different poly(fluoroalkyl methacrylate) moieties. The composition and chemical structure of these fluorinated copolymers were confirmed by 1H NMR, 19F NMR spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) techniques. The solution behaviors of these copolymers containing (tri‐, hexa‐, or octa‐ F‐atom)FMA were investigated by the measurements of surface tension, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and UV spectrophotometer. The results indicate that these fluorinated copolymers possess relatively high surface activity, especially at neutral media. Moreover, the DLS and UV measurements showed that these fluorinated diblock copolymers possess distinct pH/temperature‐responsive properties, depending not only on the PDMA segment but also on the fluoroalkyl structure of the FMA units. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Different diblock copolymers constituted by one segment of a monomer supporting a reactive functional group, like allyl methacrylate (AMA), were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Bromo‐terminated polymers, like polystyrene (PS), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) were employed as macroinitiators to form the other blocks. Copolymerizations were carried out using copper chloride with N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as the catalyst system in benzonitrile solution at 70 °C. At the early stage, the ATRP copolymerizations yielded well‐defined linear block copolymers. However, with the polymerization progress a change in the macromolecular architecture takes place due to the secondary reactions caused by the allylic groups, passing to a branched and/or star‐shaped structure until finally yielding gel at monomer conversion around 40% or higher. The block copolymers were characterized by means of size exclusion chromatography (SEC), 1H NMR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In addition, one of these copolymers, specifically P(BA‐b‐AMA), was satisfactorily modified through osmylation reaction to obtain the subsequent amphiphilic diblock copolymer of P(BA‐b‐DHPMA), where DHPMA is 2,3‐dihydroxypropyl methacrylate; demonstrating the feasibility of side‐chain modification of the functional obtained copolymers.

Here, we reported the synthesis of branched poly(2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) via a combination of activator generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (AGET ATRP) and self-condensing vinyl polymerization (SCVP) techniques. The typical linear kinetics of the AGET ATRP of DMAEMA with the initiation of 2-(2-bromoisobutyryloxy) ethyl methacrylate (BIEM) was observed. The molecular weight (Mn ) of the branched PDMAEMA increased with the monomer conversion. The GPC traces of these polymers were unimodal and the molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ) were in the range of 1.30–2.10. The degree of branching (DB) determined by NMR spectra agreed with theoretical value. The branched amphiphilic copolymer functionalized with azobenzene was then prepared via AGET ATRP chain-extension of branched PDMAEMA with azobenzene monomer, 6-[4-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl(meth)acrylate as the second monomer. The GPC traces of these branched copolymers showed the mono-peaks, which proved the successful preparation of copolymers. The properties of this branched copolymer in controlling drug release were also investigated. It was found that the drug release rate of chlorambucil can be controlled by various factors, such as polymer structure, light, temperature and pH values.  相似文献

Shell cross-linked (SCL) micelles with amine-functional coronas have been constructed in aqueous solution by exploiting the micellar self-assembly of new thermo-responsive ABC triblock copolymers. These copolymers were prepared via atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP) in convenient one-pot syntheses and comprised a thermo-responsive core-forming poly(propylene oxide) [PPO] block, a cross-linkable central poly(glycerol monomethacrylate) [GMA] block and an amine-functional outer block based on either poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) [DMA] or poly([2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethyl ammonium chloride) [QDMA]. DMF GPC analysis indicated an Mn of 17,700 and an Mw/Mn of 1.46 for the PPO-PGMA-PDMA triblock copolymer. The DMA residues of the PPO-PGMA-PDMA triblock copolymer were reacted with methyl iodide to prepare copolymers with differing degrees of quaternisation. Each triblock copolymer dissolved molecularly in aqueous solution at 5 °C and formed micelles with amine-functional coronas above a critical micelle temperature (CMT) of around 12 °C, which corresponded closely to the cloud point of the PPO macro-initiator. Cross-linking of the GMA residues in the inner shell using divinyl sulfone produced SCL micelles that remained intact at 5 °C, i.e. below the cloud point of the core-forming PPO block. Aqueous electrophoresis studies confirmed that these SCL micelles had considerable cationic surface charge, as expected. The cationic SCL micelles were adsorbed onto a near-monodisperse anionic silica sol, which was used as a model colloidal substrate. Thermogravimetric analyses indicated SCL micelle mass loadings of 6.1-15.5 wt.%, depending on the initial micelle concentration. Aqueous electrophoresis studies confirmed that surface charge reversal occurred on adsorption of the SCL micelles and scanning electron microscopy studies revealed the presence of SCL micelles on the silica particles.  相似文献

Well-defined four-arm star poly(?-caprolactone)-block-poly(cyclic carbonate methacrylate) (PCL-b-PCCMA) copolymers were synthesized by combining ring-opening polymerization (ROP) with atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, a four-arm poly(?-caprolactone) (PCL) macroinitiator [(PCL-Br)4] was prepared by the ROP of ?-CL catalyzed by stannous octoate at 110°C in the presence of pentaerythritol as the tetrafunctional initiator followed by esterification with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. The sequential ATRP of CCMA monomer was carried out by using the (PCL-Br)4 tetrafunctional macroinitiator (MI) and in the presence of CuBr/2, 2′-bipyridyl system in DMF at 80°C with [(MI)]:[CuBr]:[bipyridyl] = 1:1:3 to yield block polymers with controlled molecular weights (Mn (NMR) = 10700 to 27300 g/mol) by varying block lengths and with moderately narrow polydispersities (Mw/Mn = 1.2–1.4). Block copolymers with different PCL: PCCMA copolymer composition such as 50:50, 70:30 and 74:26 were prepared with good yields (48-74%). All these block copolymers were well characterized by NMR, FTIR and GPC and tested their thermal properties by DSC and TGA.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of folic acid-functionalized diblock copolymer micelles to improve the delivery and uptake of two poorly water-soluble anti-tumor drugs, tamoxifen and paclitaxel, to cancer cells through folate receptor targeting. The diblock copolymer used in this study comprised a hydrophilic poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl phosphorylcholine] (MPC) block, carrying at the chain end the folate targeting moiety, and a pH-sensitive hydrophobic poly[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (DPA) block (FA-MPC-DPA). The drug-loading capacities of tamoxifen- and paclitaxel-loaded micelles were determined by high performance liquid chromatography and the micelle dimensions were determined by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Cell viability studies were carried out on human chronic myelogenous leukaemia (K-562) and colon carcinoma cell lines (Caco-2) in order to demonstrate that drug-loaded FA-MPC-DPA micelles exhibited higher cytotoxicities toward cancer cells than unfunctionalized MPC-DPA micelles. Uptake studies confirmed that folate-conjugated micelles led to increased drug uptake within cancer cells, demonstrating the expected selectivity toward these tumor cells.  相似文献

Novel amphiphilic star‐block copolymers, star poly(caprolactone)‐block‐poly[(2‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] and poly(caprolactone)‐block‐poly(methacrylic acid), with hyperbranched poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA–OH) as a core moiety were synthesized and characterized. The star‐block copolymers were prepared by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, hyperbranched PHEMA–OH with 18 hydroxyl end groups on average was used as an initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone to produce PHEMA–PCL star homopolymers [PHEMA = poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate); PCL = poly(caprolactone)]. Next, the hydroxyl end groups of PHEMA–PCL were converted to 2‐bromoesters, and this gave rise to macroinitiator PHEMA–PCL–Br for ATRP. Then, 2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate or tert‐butyl methacrylate was polymerized from the macroinitiators, and this afforded the star‐block copolymers PHEMA–PCL–PDMA [PDMA = poly(2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate)] and PHEMA–PCL–PtBMA [PtBMA = poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate)]. Characterization by gel permeation chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance confirmed the expected molecular structure. The hydrolysis of tert‐butyl ester groups of the poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) blocks gave the star‐block copolymer PHEMA–PCL–PMAA [PMAA = poly(methacrylic acid)]. These amphiphilic star‐block copolymers could self‐assemble into spherical micelles, as characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a fluorinated macroinitiator for copper-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is reported, as well as its use for the controlled living polymerization of poly(propylene glycol) methacrylate (PPGM) in MEK at 80 °C. The ATRP system used was efficient for polymerization of the functionalized monomer and the molecular weight of the polymer estimated by NMR spectroscopy was in close agreement with the theoretical molecular weight, as expected for controlled processes. The statistical copolymerization of PPGM or methyl ether poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (MPEGMA) with a perfluoroalkyl ethyl methacrylate by copper-mediated ATRP was also investigated and led to copolymers with essentially random incorporation of monomers. The syntheses and characterization of star-like homopolymers of MPEGMA or the fluorinated monomer via ATRP are also reported, as well as an amphiphilic star-like block copolymer containing ethyleneglycol units as the core and fluorinated moieties in the shell. The micellar behavior of this copolymer was investigated as a function of the external environment.  相似文献
