Organic host–guest doped materials exhibiting the room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) phenomenon have attracted considerable attention. However, it is still challenging to investigate their corresponding luminescence mechanism, because for host–guest systems, it is very difficult to obtain single crystals compared to single-component or co-crystal component materials. Herein, we developed a series of organic doped materials with triphenylamine (TPA) as the host and TPA derivatives with different electron-donating groups as guests. The doped materials showed strong fluorescence, thermally activated delayed fluorescence (τ: 39–47 ms), and efficient room temperature phosphorescence (Φphos: 7.3–9.1%; τ: 170–262 ms). The intensity ratio between the delayed fluorescence and phosphorescence was tuned by the guest species and concentration. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to simulate the molecular conformation of guest molecules in the host matrix and the interaction between the host and guest molecules. Therefore, the photophysical properties were calculated using the QM/MM model. This work provides a new concept for the study of molecular packing of guest molecules in the host matrix.

A novel type of host–guest recognition systems have been developed on the basis of a Au(III) molecular tweezer receptor and chiral Pt(II) guests. The complementary host–guest motifs display high non-covalent binding affinity (Ka: ~104 L/mol) due to the participation of two-fold intermolecular π–π stacking interactions. Both phosphorescence and chirality signals of the Pt(II) guests strengthen in the resulting host–guest complexes, because of the cooperative rigidifying and shielding effects rendered by the tweezer receptor. Their intensities can be reversibly switched toward pH changes, by taking advantage of the electronic repulsion effect between the protonated form of tweezer receptor and the positive-charged guests in acidic environments. Overall, the current study demonstrates the feasibility to enhance and modulate phosphorescence and chirality signals simultaneously via molecular tweezer-based host–guest recognition.  相似文献

Organic luminescent materials with high quantum yields and/or white-light-emitting properties in particular play a crucial role in labeling and optoelectronic devices. In this work we have synthesized a new 2,3,6,7-tetramethoxy-9,10-di-p-tolylanthracene-bridged pillar[5]arene dimer with persistent mazarine blue fluorescent emission and much higher quantum yields in both solution and the solid state in comparison with its corresponding emissive linker without pillarene units, which exhibits typical aggregation-caused quenching. According to the fluorescence data and single-crystal analyses, their contrasting fluorescent performances can be rationally ascribed to their different stacking structures and intermolecular interactions. Three fluorescent guests containing different chromophores and/or terminal binding sites have also been synthesized to interact with the pillar[5]arene dimer to construct supramolecular ensembles with highly controllable luminescence, taking advantage of the stimuli-responsive properties of the supramolecular host–guest interactions. Intriguingly, multicolor fluorescence, including white-light emission (0.31, 0.35), which is in high demand, has been achieved by tuning the molar ratio of the host and guest and/or by changing the solvent system. This strategy holds great potential for the design and development of fluorescent materials with high quantum yields, controllable emission wavelength, and good stimuli-responsiveness.  相似文献

A host framework for inclusion of various guest molecules was investigated by preparation of inclusion crystals of 1,8‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)anthracene (1,8‐BAPA) with organic solvents. X‐ray crystallographic analysis revealed construction of the same inclusion space incorporating 1,8‐BAPA and eight guest molecules including both non‐polar (benzene) and polar guests (N,N‐dimethylformamide, DMF). Fluorescence efficiencies varied depending on guest molecule polarity; DMF inclusion crystals exhibited the highest fluorescence intensity (ΦF=0.40), four times as high as that of a benzene inclusion crystal (ΦF=0.10). According to systematic investigations of inclusion phenomena, strong host–guest interactions and filling of the inclusion space led to a high fluorescence intensity. Temperature‐dependent fluorescence spectral measurements revealed these factors effectively immobilised the host framework. Although hydrogen bonding commonly decreases fluorescence intensity, the present study demonstrated that such strong interactions provide excellent conditions for fluorescence enhancement. Thus, this remarkable behaviour has potential application toward sensing of highly polar molecules, such as biogenic compounds.  相似文献

Dual-mode emission materials, combining phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence, offer promising opportunities for white-light afterglow. However, the delayed fluorescence lifetime is usually significantly shorter than that of phosphorescence, limiting the duration of white-light emission. In this study, a carbazole-based host–guest system that can be activated by both ultraviolet (UV) and visible light is reported to achieve balanced phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence, resulting in a long-lived white-light afterglow. Our study demonstrated the critical role of a charge transfer state in the afterglow mechanism, where the charge separation and recombination process directly determined the lifetime of afterglow. Simultaneously, an efficient reversed intersystem crossing process was obtained between the singlet and triplet charge transfer states, which facilitating the delayed fluorescence properties of host–guest system. As a result, delayed fluorescence lifetime was successfully prolonged to approach that of phosphorescence. This work presents a delayed fluorescence lifetime improvement strategy via doping method to realize durable white-light afterglow.  相似文献

The first examples of porous molecular crystals that are assembled through Au⋅⋅⋅Au interactions of gold complex 1 are here reported along with their exchange properties with respect to their guest components. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses indicate that the crystal structure of 1 /CH2Cl2⋅pentane is based on cyclic hexamers of 1 , which are formed through six Au⋅⋅⋅Au interactions. The packing of these cyclic hexamers affords a porous architecture, in which the one-dimensional channel segment contains CH2Cl2 and pentane as guests. These guests can be exchanged through operationally simple methods under retention of the host framework of 1 , which furnished 1 /guest complexes with 26 different guests. A single-crystal XRD analysis of 1 /eicosane, which contains the long linear alkane eicosane (n-C20H42), successfully provided its accurately modeled structure within the porous material. These host–guest complexes show chromic luminescence with both blue- and redshifted emissions. Moreover, this porous organometallic material can exhibit luminescent mechanochromism through release of guests.  相似文献

A phosphorescent supramolecular foldamer is conveniently constructed by the 1:1 host–guest complexation with cucurbit[8]uril and 1,2-diaminocyclohexane-bridged 4-(4-bromophenyl)-pyridinium salt. The tightly compact host–guest complexation in molecular foldamer can greatly suppress the fluorescence emissive channel and promote the intersystem crossing from singlet to triplet states, thus leading to the green phosphorescence at ambient temperature in aqueous solution. More intriguingly, the phosphorescence emission shows very rapid and sensitive responsiveness to different antibiotics in both inanimate milieu and living cells. Remarkably, the limit of detection of such binary inclusion complex toward sulfamethazine can reach as low as 1.86 × 10?7 mol/L. Thus, it is envisaged that this supramolecular nanoplatform featuring unique complexation-enhanced phosphorescence emission may hold great promise in sensing and detecting many other biological targets under physiological environment.  相似文献

We propose the novel σ–π conjugated polymer poly(biphenyl germanium) grafted with two electron‐donating acridan moieties on the Ge atom for use as the host material in a polymer light‐emitting diode (PLED) with the sky‐blue‐emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) material DMAC‐TRZ as the guest. Its high triplet energy (ET) of 2.86 eV is significantly higher than those of conventional π–π conjugated polymers (ET=2.65 eV as the limit) and this guest emitter (ET=2.77 eV). The TADF emitter emits bluer emission than in other host materials owing to the low orientation polarizability of the germanium‐based polymer host. The Ge atom also provides an external heavy‐atom effect, which increases the rate of reverse intersystem crossing in this TADF guest, so that more triplet excitons are harvested for light emission. The sky‐blue TADF electroluminescence with this host/guest pair gave a record‐high external quantum efficiency of 24.1 % at maximum and 22.8 % at 500 cd m?2.  相似文献

Molecular clip 1 remains monomeric in water and engages in host–guest recognition processes with suitable guests. We report the Ka values for 32 1? guest complexes measured by 1H NMR, UV/Vis, and fluorescence titrations. The cavity of 1 is shaped by aromatic surfaces of negative electrostatic potential and therefore displays high affinity and selectivity for planar and cationic aromatic guests that distinguishes it from CB[n] receptors that prefer aliphatic over aromatic guests. Electrostatic effects play a dominant role in the recognition process whereby ion–dipole interactions may occur between ammonium ions and the C=O groups of 1 , between the SO3? groups of 1 and pendant cationic groups on the guest, and within the cavity of 1 by cation–π interactions. Host 1 displays a high affinity toward dicationic guests with large planar aromatic surfaces (e.g. naphthalene diimide NDI+ and perylene diimide PDI+) and cationic dyes derived from acridine (e.g. methylene blue and azure A). The critical importance of cation–π interactions was ascertained by a comparison of analogous neutral and cationic guests (e.g. methylene violet vs. methylene blue; quinoline vs. N‐methylquinolinium; acridine vs. N‐methylacridinium; neutral red vs. neutral red H+) the affinities of which differ by up to 380‐fold. We demonstrate that the high affinity of 1 toward methylene blue (Ka=3.92×107 m ?1; Kd=25 nm ) allows for the selective sequestration and destaining of U87 cells stained with methylene blue.  相似文献

The cucurbit[7,8]urils (Q[7] and Q[8])-induced room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of quinoline and its derivatives were firstly found in the cucurbit[n]urils chemistry. The luminophores (quinolines) and their RTP are affected by the concentration of different Q[n]s, heavy metal ions and amounts, and pH. The RTP lifetime of the luminophore has been investigated. In presence of Na2SO3, the cation Tl+ led to stronger Q[n]-induced RTP, while the RTP lifetimes of luminophore/Q[7 or 8]/KI were generally longer than that of luminophore/Q[7 or 8]/TlNO3, the RTP lifetimes of these systems were between 0.18 and 47.4 ms. Contrary to the stable 1:2 Q[8]:guest ternary inclusion complexes at lower pHs, as suggested by 1H NMR, electronic absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, low Q[8]-induced room temperature phosphorescence was observed. However, at higher pHs, high intensity of cucurbit[n]urils-induced room temperature phosphorescence of these quinoline derivatives were observed, and a 1:1 Q[8]:guest inclusion complex was formed. Investigations of dependence of RTP intensity on concentration of Q[n] revealed that the highest intensity of the Q[n]-induced RTP was observed at a low mole ratio of host:guest, which is closed to 1:1. It was presumably resulted from the strong interaction of Q[n] and these guests due to the combined hydrophobic cavity interaction and the hydrophilic portal interaction of the cucurbit[n]urils with the nitrogen heterocycles guest.  相似文献

The host–guest doping system has aroused great attention due to its promising advantage in stimulating bright and persistent room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP). Currently, exploration of the explicit structure–property relationship of bicomponent systems has encountered obstacles. In this work, two sets of heterocyclic isomers showing promising RTP emissions in the solid state were designed and synthesized. By encapsulating these phosphors into a robust phosphorus-containing host, several host–guest cocrystalline systems were further developed, achieving highly efficient RTP performance with a phosphorescence quantum efficiency (ϕP) of ∼26% and lifetime (τP) of ∼32 ms. Detailed photophysical characterization and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were conducted to reveal the structure–property relationships in such bicomponent systems. It was verified that other than restricting the molecular configuration, the host matrix could also dilute the guest to avoid concentration quenching and provide an external heavy atom effect for the population of triplet excitons, thus boosting the RTP performance of the guest.

Several host–guest cocrystal systems with bright and persistent room-temperature phosphorescence were developed by utilizing a phosphorus-containing material as a robust host and newly developed isomeric organic phosphors as guests.  相似文献

We report here NMR and Isothermal Titration Calorimetry studies of the binding of ionisable guests (carboxylate acids) to a deep-cavity cavitand. These studies reveal that the shortest guests favoured 1:1 complex formation, but the longer the alkyl chain the more the 2:1 host-guest capsule is favoured. For intermediate-sized guests, the equilibrium between these two states is controlled by pH; at low values the capsule containing the carboxylic acid guest is favoured, whereas as the pH is raised deprotonation of the guest favours the 1:1 complex. Interestingly, for one host–guest pair the energy required to decap the 2:1 capsular complex and form the 1:1 complex is sufficient to shift the pKa of the guest by ~3–4 orders of magnitude (4.1–5.4 kcal mol?1). The two largest guests examined form stable 2:1 capsules, with in both cases the guest adopting a relatively high energy J-shaped motif. Furthermore, these 2:1 complexes are sufficiently stable that at high pH guest deprotonation occurs without decapping of the capsule.  相似文献

Modern supramolecular chemistry is overwhelmingly based on non‐covalent interactions involving organic architectures. However, the question of what happens when you depart from this area to the supramolecular chemistry of structures based on non‐carbon frameworks remains largely unanswered, and is an area that potentially provides new directions in molecular activation, host–guest chemistry, and biomimetic chemistry. In this work, we explore the unusual host–guest chemistry of the pentameric macrocycle [{P(μ‐NtBu}2NH]5 with a range of anionic and neutral guests. The polar coordination site of this host promotes new modes of guest encapsulation via hydrogen bonding with the π systems of the unsaturated C≡C and C≡N bonds of acetylenes and nitriles as well as with the PCO? anion. Halide guests can be kinetically locked within the structure by oxidation of the phosphorus periphery by oxidation to PV. Our study underscores the future promise of p‐block macrocyclic chemistry.  相似文献

The absorption and emission spectroscopic behaviour of cyclometalated fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium(III) [Ir(ppy)3] is studied at room temperature. Liquid solutions, doped films, and neat films are investigated. The absorption cross-section spectra including singlet–triplet absorption, the triplet–singlet stimulated emission cross-section spectra, the phosphorescence quantum distributions, the phosphorescence quantum yields and the phosphorescence signal decays are determined. In neat films fluorescence self-quenching occurs, in diluted solid solution (polystyrene and dicarbazole-biphenyl films) as well as deaerated liquid solution (toluene) high phosphorescence quantum yields are obtained, and in air-saturated liquid solutions (chloroform, toluene, tetrahydrofuran) the phosphorescence efficiency is reduced by triplet oxygen quenching. At intense short-pulse laser excitation the phosphorescence lifetime is shortened by triplet–triplet annihilation. No amplification of spontaneous emission in the phosphorescence spectral region was observed indicating higher excited-state absorption than stimulated emission.  相似文献

Some biological receptors change their shapes and rigidity by metalation to recognize substrates precisely via adaptive guest binding process. Herein we present a semi-flexible tricyclic host molecule whose conformation is rigidified by dimetalation to uptake organic guests selectively. Considering two metal binding sites and an empty space between them, pillar[5]-bis-thiacrown (L) was synthesized. The tricyclic host L forms a disilver(I) complex [Ag2L(NO3)2], with an Ag⋅⋅⋅Ag separation of 9.976 Å. Binding studies based on 1H NMR including 2D NOESY and DOSY experiments towards α,ω-dicyanoalkanes [CN(CH2)nCN, n=2–6, shortly C2–C6] demonstrated that the dimetalated L, Ag2L preferentially recognizes C2 over other guests than that of free L. Furthermore, the dimetalated the host only uptakes C2 in the presence of other guests. Crystal structures support the idea that the space between two silver(I) centers plays a decisive role on the selective guest binding forming an Ag-C2-Ag@L arrangement via the length-selective recognition. This work demonstrates the chemical example of the adaptive guest binding and presents a new perspective on the metallosupramolecules of pillararenes.  相似文献

N‐Alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides are stabilized by an intricate array of intra‐ and intermolecular hydrogen bonds that leads to cavitand‐like structures. Depending on the upper‐rim substituents, self‐inclusion was observed in solution and in the solid state. The self‐inclusion can be disrupted at higher temperatures, whereas in the presence of small guests the self‐included dimers spontaneously reorganize to 1:1 host–guest complexes. These host compounds show an interesting ability to bind a series of N‐alkyl acetamide guests through intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving the carbonyl oxygen (C?O) atoms and the amide (NH) groups of the guests, the chloride anions (Cl?) and ammonium (NH2+) cations of the hosts, and also through CH ??? π interactions between the hosts and guests. The self‐included and host–guest complexes were studied by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, NMR titration, and mass spectrometry.  相似文献

A crystallographic investigation of a series of host–guest complexes in which small-molecule organic guests occupy the central cavity of an approximately cubic M8L12 coordination cage has revealed some unexpected behaviour. Whilst some guests form 1:1 H⋅G complexes as we have seen before, an extensive family of bicyclic guests—including some substituted coumarins and various saturated analogues—form 1:2 H⋅G2 complexes in the solid state, despite the fact that solution titrations are consistent with 1:1 complex formation, and the combined volume of the pair of guests significantly exceeds the Rebek 55±9 % packing for optimal guest binding, with packing coefficients of up to 87 %. Re-examination of solution titration data for guest binding in two cases showed that, although conventional fluorescence titrations are consistent with 1:1 binding model, alternative forms of analysis—Job plot and an NMR titration—at higher concentrations do provide evidence for 1:2 H⋅G2 complex formation. The observation of guests binding in pairs in some cases opens new possibilities for altered reactivity of bound guests, and also highlights the recently articulated difficulties associated with determining stoichiometry of supramolecular complexes in solution.  相似文献

We report the synthesis and characterization of a three‐dimensional tetraphenylethene‐based octacationic cage that shows host–guest recognition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g. coronene) in organic media and water‐soluble dyes (e.g. sulforhodamine 101) in aqueous media through CH???π, π–π, and/or electrostatic interactions. The cage?coronene exhibits a cuboid internal cavity with a size of approximately 17.2×11.0×6.96 Å3 and a “hamburger”‐type host–guest complex, which is hierarchically stacked into 1D nanotubes and a 3D supramolecular framework. The free cage possesses a similar cavity in the crystalline state. Furthermore, a host–guest complex formed between the octacationic cage and sulforhodamine 101 had a higher absolute quantum yield (ΦF=28.5 %), larger excitation–emission gap (Δλex‐em=211 nm), and longer emission lifetime (τ=7.0 ns) as compared to the guest (ΦF=10.5 %; Δλex‐em=11 nm; τ=4.9 ns), and purer emission (ΔλFWHM=38 nm) as compared to the host (ΔλFWHM=111 nm).  相似文献
