A metal-matrix specimen was investigated using moiré interferometry with 2400 ℓ/mm (60,960 ℓ/in.). The specimen was a 6-ply [0/±45] s boron-aluminum tensile coupon with a central slot. The unequal deformations in fibers and matrix were evident. Special attention was given to a plastic slip zone in the matrix. Normal and shear strains were calculated in the slip zone; the shear-strain concentration factor rose dramatically with the onset of plastic slip and continued to rise gradually with load to 95 percent of the failure load. The precipitous change from maximum tensile strain in one fiber to zero tensile strain in the neighboring fiber was accommodated by the very high shear strain in the matrix in the slip zone. Experimental considerations are discussed: shear strains are independent of rigid-body rotations; simplified strain calculations are justified; averaging across the narrow slip region and the influence of finite thickness of the specimen grating contribute to underestimation of peak strains. Stereo vision is used to measure the strain field of a round tension test specimen in a cylindrical coordinate system. Initially, the displacement fields of the specimen are measured relative to a world coordinate system erected by the stereo vision. Through coordinate transformations, the measured displacement fields expressed in world coordinates are then converted to the displacement fields expressed in cylindrical coordinates. By differentiating the axial and circumferential displacements in the axial and circumferential directions, the axial, circumferential and shear strains are determined. Results indicate that the measured mean value of the axial strains is in good agreement with the measurements of the extensometer and the strain gage. The Poisson's ratio obtained by the circumferential and axial strains is close to .33 in the elastic state. The mean error of the computed shear strain is approximately .03 percent in the smaller elastic deformation and .08 percent in the larger plastic deformation.  相似文献

Ductile failure experiments on a double notched tube (DNT) specimen subjected to a combination of tensile load and torque that was applied at a fixed ratio is presented. The experimental results extend those in Barsoum and Faleskog (2007a) down to zero stress triaxiality. A new and robust evaluation procedure for such tests is proposed, and a simple relation for the equivalent plastic strain at failure for combined normal and shear deformation, respectively, is developed. Tests were carried out on the medium strength medium hardening steel Weldox 420, and the high strength low hardening steel Weldox 960. The experimental results unanimously show that ductile failure not only depends on stress triaxiality, but is also strongly affected by the type of deviatoric stress state that prevails, which can be quantified by a stress invariant that discriminates between axisymmetric stressing and shear dominated stressing, e.g., the Lode parameter. Additional experiments on round notch bar (RNB) specimens are recapitulated in order to give a comprehensive account on how ductile failure depends on stress triaxiality, ranging from zero to more than 1.6, and the type of stress state for the two materials tested. This provides an extensive experimental data base that will be used to explore an extension of the Gurson model that incorporates damage development in shear presented in Xue et al. 使用评价纤维/基体界面力学性能的新方法纤维微滴拉伸测试,来研究M55JB碳纤维/环氧树脂基体之间的界面应力传递性能。使用自制的微加载装置对碳纤维/环氧树脂微滴试样进行对称式拉伸测试,用微拉曼光谱仪记录下不同应变下的嵌入微滴内纤维上的拉曼频移信号,经过应力/频移关系转换成纤维轴向应力。实验结果显示,微滴内纤维轴向应力随载荷而明显增加。根据界面力平衡模型得到相应的界面剪切应力呈反对称式分布,在纤维嵌入端存在剪应力集中。新测试方法能保证嵌入微滴内纤维上的应力呈对称式分布,而且能降低纤维嵌入端附近的应力奇异性。  相似文献

轴向压缩作用下,脆性岩石侧向应力严重影响岩石力学特性。侧向压应力影响下的轴向压缩岩石力学行为已经得到广泛研究,然而侧向拉应力对轴向压缩岩石力学行为影响研究很少。本文基于脆性岩石翼型裂纹扩展模型中,初始裂纹面法向应力与剪切应力的正负方向为判断依据,研究了侧向拉应力对轴向压缩力学行为的影响。发现恒定的侧向拉应力作用下,轴向压缩应力渐进变化过程中,脆性岩石内部细观初始裂纹面的法向应力只能为压缩应力,不存在拉应力情况。分析了从侧向压应力到拉应力转化过程中,脆性岩石轴向压应力与细观裂纹扩展长度关系、轴向压应力与轴向应变关系、岩石峰值强度、裂纹启裂应力及初始弹性模量的变化规律。并分析了侧向拉应力对岩石蠕变裂纹长度、裂纹速率、轴向应变及应变率演化曲线,以及对蠕变失效时间及稳态蠕变应变率的影响。讨论了侧向拉压应力突变转化以及侧向拉应力分级增大对轴向压缩岩石蠕变演化行为影响。该研究为深部地下工程围岩稳定性评价提供了一定理论依据。  相似文献

利用电磁膨胀环实验技术,研究了7075铝环在2700~8700 s?1拉伸加载应变率下的断裂模式转变现象。实验结果表明:在低应变率下,铝环的断裂受最大正应力控制,发生拉伸断裂;在高应变率下,铝环的断裂受最大剪应力控制,发生剪切断裂;在中应变率下,铝环的断裂同时受最大正应力和最大剪应力控制,为拉伸和剪切同时存在的拉剪混合断裂模式;随着应变率的增加,铝环的破片数量呈先增加、再减小、最后增加的趋势,破片数量变化拐点与断裂模式转变点基本吻合。  相似文献

为了研究不同应力状态和应变率条件下镁合金MB2的拉伸破坏行为,利用材料试验机和分离式Hopkinson拉杆(SHTB),对镁合金MB2的光滑及缺口圆柱试件进行了动静态拉伸加载;拟合得到了镁合金MB2的动静态拉伸本构关系,建立了其修正的Johnson-Cook失效破坏准则,并对不同试件的拉伸破坏行为进行了数值模拟;利用SEM对宏观破坏模式对应的微观损伤机理进行了分析。结果表明,随着应力三轴度的增加,镁合金MB2的等效破坏应变先增大后减小,宏观破坏模式由剪切转为正拉断,微观损伤机制由混合断裂转变为韧窝断裂;而随着应变率的增加,等效破坏应变不断减小,破坏模式不发生改变。Johnson-Cook本构关系和修正后的Johnson-Cook失效破坏准则能较好地拟合动态静态拉伸实验结果并预测不同试件的杯锥形破坏特征。  相似文献

The diametral compression test is commonly used to determine the tensile strength of brittle materials. For isotropic materials a simple relation based on specimen geometry and the applied load at failure is used to calculate the tensile strength. Previous to this work the effect of material orthotropy and material orientation on the specimen stress state had not been completely determined. In this study, both isotropic and orthotropic specimens were analyzed using a finite element analysis and experimentally verified by strain gage and photoelastic measurements. Further, this work investigated the effect of the applied load area on the specimen stress state. Results of this work show that there is a significant difference between the theoretical calculations based on the assumption of material isotropy when compared to an orthotropic material. This difference can be as much as 45 percent depending on the degree of orthotropy and the orientation. It was also determined that the applied load area and material orientation significantly influence the specimen stress state. An applied load area of 8 percent of the circumference was found to reduce the stresses in the applied load region.  相似文献

A series of experiments was conducted on cast and extruded high purity aluminum material under monotonic large strain torsion condition. Both free-end and fixed-end torsions were studied using tubular specimens of different gage lengths (long, medium and short). The experiments used an axial–torsional extensometer. A procedure of calibration for elevated temperature test was determined. The torque versus angle of twist curves were recorded and converted into true shear stress–strain curves by use of the modified Nadai method developed previously by the authors. The axial extension for free-end torsion and the axial stress developed during fixed-end torsion were recorded. The hoop strain was also measured and was found to be approximately 0.8–0.9 times the axial strain when the shear strain is 150%. The effect of specimen geometry was studied. It was found that the long, thick-walled tubular specimen is suitable for torsion test in the large strain range.  相似文献

Circular tubes compressed into the plastic range first buckle into axisymmetric wrinkling modes. Initially the wrinkle amplitude grows with increasing load. The wrinkles gradually induce a reduction in axial rigidity eventually leading to a limit load instability followed by collapse. The two instabilities can be separated by strain levels of a few percent. This work investigates whether a tube that develops small amplitude wrinkles can be subsequently collapsed by persistent cycling. The problem is first investigated experimentally using SAF 2507 super-duplex steel tubes with D/t of 28.5. The tubes are first compressed to strain levels high enough for mild wrinkles to form; they are then cycled axially under stress control about a compressive mean stress. This type of cycling usually results in material ratcheting or accumulation of compressive strain; here it is accompanied by accumulation of structural damage due to the growth of the amplitude of the initial wrinkles. The tube average strain initially grows nearly linearly with the number of cycles, but as a critical value of wrinkle amplitude is approached, wrinkling localizes, the rate of ratcheting grows exponentially and the tube collapses. The rate of ratcheting and the number of cycles to failure depend on the initial compressive pre-strain and on the amplitude of the stress cycles. However, collapse was found to occur when the accumulated average strain reaches the value at which the tube localizes under monotonic compression. A custom shell model of the tube with initial axisymmetric imperfections, coupled to a cyclic plasticity model, are presented and used to simulate the series of experiments performed successfully. A sensitivity study of the formulation to the imperfections and to key constitutive model parameters is then performed.  相似文献

为分析塑性铰区碳纤维约束高强混凝土圆柱的抗震性能,编制了可得到荷载-位移曲线软化段的非线性全过程分析程序,保护层和箍筋约束混凝土采用Mander本构模型,碳纤维约束混凝土采用ACI 440.2R-08给出的本构关系,将程序计算结果与试验结果进行比较,两者吻合较好;利用该程序分析了轴压比、混凝土强度、碳纤维包裹长度及层数、纵筋配筋率等参数对碳纤维约束混凝土圆柱荷载-位移关系的影响规律,结果表明:当轴压比超过0.55后,柱构件的水平承载力开始降低,柱的破坏形式由延性的受拉破坏向脆性的受压破坏转变;剪跨比大于3的圆柱,碳纤维在塑性铰区包裹长度大干1.2倍柱直径时,即可达到与全柱包裹基本一致的效果;对混凝土强度为50 MPa~80 MPa的高强混凝土圆柱,以包裹3~4层碳纤维为宜;随着纵筋配筋率的增加,柱的水平极限承载力及延性均有所提高.  相似文献

采用数值模拟和光测技术对单向拉伸载荷作用下单搭接胶接接头中的剪切性能进行分析,研究了不同厚度胶层中切应力的变化规律。用有限元方法(FEM)对不同胶层厚度的试件进行建模,得到了拉伸载荷下胶粘剂中的切应力分布及其统计参数。利用数字图像相关(digitalimage correlation,DIC)方法对试件的变形场进行测量。结果表明,当胶粘剂的厚度较小时,胶粘剂中的切应力的分布统计参数随着其厚度的增加会有显著的变化,但是当厚度超过一定的数值时,统计参数对厚度的变化不再敏感。  相似文献

Frozen-stress, three-dimensional models were used to study the elastic stress distribution in both metric and inch rectangular, parallel, standard keys, shafts and hubs with end-milled keyways, loaded in torsion. The coefficient of friction between the shaft and the hub was measured and the surface conditions were arranged to simulate typical prototype friction. Positions and magnitudes of the peak shear stresses were determined in the prismatic part and at the ends of keys and keyways. The axial position of torque application to the hub, the key length and key-end shape were altered to investigate their effects on the stress distributions. The maximum shear stresses in the shaft occur in the keyway end if the key is not chamfered. The maximum stress in the standard metric shaft is 25 percent greater than in the inch standard. Changing the axial position of torque application from the middle to the front increases the peak stresses by about 13 percent. Doubling the length of hub and key reduces the stresses by about 25 percent. Filing off parts of the key to prevent contact at the keyway end reduces the maximum stresses by 11 percent.  相似文献

ASTM losipescu sheart test fixtures often crush the loaded edges of high shear strength specimens before shear failure occurs between the notches. To alleviate this problem, two new shear test fixtures were designed and built. The first uses a pivoting load surface to track the specimen shape as it changes under load. The second uses a rounded load surface optimized to produce a uniform bearing pressure along the loaded edge of a quasi-isotropic sheet-molding compound (SMC) specimen at shear failure. Finite element analyses and strain gage data are presented that describe the behavior of the baseline ASTM, pivoting load surface and rounded load surface fixtures. A substantial reduction in bearing stress and edge crushing was obtained with the rounded load surface fixture. Additionally, the modified surface optimized to test SMC specimens showed no tendency to change the shear strength measured in other composite specimens.  相似文献

In this paper, a simple and robust constitutive model is proposed to simulate mechanical behaviors of hyper-elastic materials under bi-axial normal-shear loadings in the finite strain regime. The Mooney–Rivlin strain energy function is adopted to develop a two-dimensional (2D) normal-shear constitutive model within the framework of continuum mechanics. A motion field is first proposed for combined normal and shear deformations. The deformation gradient of the proposed field is calculated and then substituted into right Cauchy–Green deformation tensor. Constitutive equations are then derived for normal and shear deformations. They are two explicit coupled equations with high-level polynomial non-linearity. In order to examine capabilities of the developed hyper-elastic model, uniaxial tensile responses and non-linear stability behaviors of moderately thick straight and curved beams undergoing normal axial and transverse shear deformations are simulated and compared with experiments. Fused deposition modeling technique as a 3D printing technology is implemented to fabricate hyper-elastic beam structures from soft poly-lactic acid filaments. The printed specimens are tested under tensile/compressive in-plane and compressive out-of-plane forces. A finite element formulation along with the Newton–Raphson and Riks techniques is also developed to trace non-linear equilibrium path of beam structures in large defamation regimes. It is shown that the model is capable of predicting non-linear equilibrium characteristics of hyper-elastic straight and curved beams. It is found that the modeling of shear deformation and finite strain is essential toward an accurate prediction of the non-linear equilibrium responses of moderately thick hyper-elastic beams. Due to simplicity and accuracy, the model can serve in the future studies dealing with the analysis of hyper-elastic structures in which two normal and shear stress components are dominant.  相似文献

Raman spectroscopy is used to get an insight into the microstructural aspects of the compressional behavior of carbon fiber composites. This is done by a comparative assessment of the stress transfer efficiency in tension and compression in single-fiber discontinuous model geometries. It was found that axial stress is transferred in the fiber through the generation of shear stresses at the interface for both tension and compression loading. Experimental evidence is presented to verify that the values of the maximum interfacial shear stress that the system sustains is a function of the applied strain and independent of the type of loading. However, compressive failure is quite different as fiber fragments remain in contact, thus can still bear load.  相似文献

This paper describes the design, construction and testing of a load cell to measure the axial force, shear force, and bending moment at the end of a structural beam. The capacities of the load cell are 780 kN in axial load, 350 kN in shear, and 200 kNm in bending. These magnitudes, together with the requirement that the load cell should be kept as slim as possible, necessitated a novel design comprising three steel double-spring elements machined with semicircular channels to provide localized strain amplification. The load cell was designed with the aid of detailed finite element analysis and was machined from grade 55 steel. After strain gaging, it was subjected to an extensive series of calibration tests. Results from these tests are reported, together with those from some early experiments in which two load cells were used to measure the behavior of structural steel knee elements.  相似文献

The effect of deformation history on the plastic behaviour of thin-walled tubular specimens of aluminium alloy 5056 was examined for three types of abruptly-changing loading or strain paths: namely, reverse loading after pre-loading, orthogonal straining after pre-strain, and orthogonal reloading after pre-loading and then perfect unloading, by applying combined loadings of axial force and torque. The experimental results revealed the following trends. The relation between the magnitudes of stress and strain after the comer is expressed for every pre-strain by a single curve parallel to the extension of the pre-loading curve, when the strain after the corner exceeds 1.2 per cent. Moreover, the relations between the stress reduced by pre-stress and strain after the corner for various values of the same type of pre-strain agree with each other; however, the relation for the tensile pre-strain differs clearly from that for the torsional pre-strain. Thus, A.A. Il'yushin's postulate of isotropy does not hold accurately for the above loading histories for the aluminium alloy even if the effect of the third invariant of stress deviator is eliminated.  相似文献

采用基于霍普金森压杆的新型加载技术对Ti-6Al-4V材料的动态剪切特性及失效机理进行了测试研究。获得了Ti-6Al-4V材料在超过104 s-1应变率下的剪应力-剪应变曲线及失效参数。研究发现,材料的流动应力存在明显的应变率强化效应;随着应变率的增加,材料的失效应力逐渐增大,而失效应变逐渐减小。采用ABAQUS/Explicit对加载过程进行了数值模拟。结果显示,剪切区材料基本处于平面剪切状态,应力应变场分布较为均匀,计算得到的剪应力-剪应变曲线与实验结果吻合较好。经断口分析可知,随着应变率的升高,Ti-6Al-4V的失效机理存在由韧窝、拉伸韧窝至台阶及河流花样的演化过程,材料的失效模式主要表现为韧性断裂。  相似文献

A limiting factor in the design of fiber-reinforced composites is their failure under axial compression along the fiber direction. These critical axial stresses are significantly reduced in the presence of shear stresses. This investigation is motivated by the desire to study the onset of failure in fiber-reinforced composites under arbitrary multi-axial loading and in the absence of the experimentally inevitable imperfections and finite boundaries.By using a finite strain continuum mechanics formulation for the bifurcation (buckling) problem of a rate-independent, perfectly periodic (layered) solid of infinite extent, we are able to study the influence of load orientation, material properties and fiber volume fraction on the onset of instability in fiber-reinforced composites. Two applications of the general theory are presented in detail, one for a finitely strained elastic rubber composite and another for a graphite-epoxy composite, whose constitutive properties have been determined experimentally. For the latter case, extensive comparisons are made between the predictions of our general theory and the available experimental results as well as to the existing approximate structural theories. It is found that the load orientation, material properties and fiber volume fraction have substantial effects on the onset of failure stresses as well as on the type of the corresponding mode (local or global).  相似文献
