The Algebraic K-Theory of Operator Algebras

We the study the algebraic K-theory of C *-algebras, forgetting the topology. The main results include a proof that commutative C*-algebras are K-regular in all degrees (that is, all theirN ^T K _iand extensions of the Fischer-Prasolov Theorem comparing algebraic and topological K-theory with finite coefficients.     

Topological K-Theory of Algebraic K-Theory Spectra

Let KX denote the algebraic K-theory spectrum of a regular Noetherian scheme X. Under mild additional hypotheses on X, we construct a spectral sequence converging to the topological K-theory of KX. The spectral sequence starts from the étale homology of X with coefficients in a certain copresheaf constructed from roots of unity. As examples we consider number rings, number fields, local fields, smooth curves over a finite field, and smooth varieties over the complex numbers.

We express the real connective K-theory groups o_4k–1(B Q ) ofthe quaternion group Q of order = 2 ^j 8 in terms of therepresentation theory of Q by showing o_4k–1(B Q ) = Sp(S ^4k+3/Q )where is any fixed point free representation of Q in U(2k + 2).     

The Higher K-Theory of Complex Varieties

Let X be a smooth complex variety, and let F be its function field. We prove that (after localizing at the prime 2) the K-groups of F are divisible above the dimension of X, and that the K-groups of X are divisible-by-finite. We also describe the torsion in the K-groups of F and X.     

The Eta Invariant and the Connective K-Theory of the Classifying Space for Cyclic 2 Groups

We use the eta invariant to study the connective K-theory groups ko _m (B ) of the classifying space for the cyclic group where - 2 2.     

Milnor K-Groups and Zero-Cycles on Products of Curves over p-Adic Fields

We investigate the Chow groups of zero cycles of products of curves over a p-adic field by means of the Milnor K-groups of their Jacobians as introduced by Somekawa. We prove some finiteness results for CH ₀(X)/m for X a product of curves over a p-adic field.     

On the Dilogarithmic Cycle Class Map

For a smooth projective surface X over C, we construct uncountably many non-torsion cycles in CH²(X) which die in the dilogarithmic cohomology of S. Bloch whenever there is an Abelian variety A and a correspondence δ in CH²(X × A) which induces non-zero map on the spaces of global 2-forms. In case X = E × E with E an elliptic curve, all of albanese kernel dies in any such analytic cohomology. Similar results are obtained for higher dimensional varieties under the condition of existence of non-trivial decomposable 2-forms.     

The Eta-Invariant and Pontryagin Duality in K-Theory

The topological significance of the spectral Atiyah--Patodi--Singer -invariant is investigated. We show that twice the fractional part of the invariant is computed by the linking pairing in K-theory with the orientation bundle of the manifold. Pontryagin duality implies the nondegeneracy of the linking form. An example of a nontrivial fractional part for an even-order operator is presented.     

Adams Operations for Bivariant K-Theory and a Filtration Using Projective Lines

We establish the existence of Adams operations on the members of a filtration of K-theory which is defined using products of projective lines. We also show that this filtration induces the gamma filtration on the rational K-groups of a smooth variety over a field of characteristic zero.     

K-Theory of the Indicial Algebra of a Manifold with Corners

We compute the K-theory, groups of the C ^*-algebra of the groupoid of a manifold with corners, in which the analytic index takes its values.

For a ring R with , we build an injective assembly map , detected by the Dennis trace map. This is proved by establishing a delocalization property for the assembly map in Hochschild homology, namely providing a gluing of simpler assembly maps (i.e. localized at the identity of ) to build , and by delocalizing a known assembly map in K-theory to define . We also prove the delocalization property in cyclic homology and in related theories.     

Milnor K-Groups and Finite Field Extensions

Let E/F be a finite separable field extension and let m denote the integral part of log₂ [E : F]. David Leep recently showed that if char(F) 2, then for n m the nth power of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring of E satisfies the equality I ⁿ E = I ^n–m F · I ^m E. The aim of this note is to prove the analogous equality for the Milnor K-groups, that is K _n E = K _n–m F · K _m E for n m. In either of these equalities one may not replace m by m – 1, as examples of certain m-quadratic extensions indicate.     

On Strongly Stable Rings

Abstract

A ring R is called strongly stable if whenever aR + bR = R, there exists a w ∈ Q(R) such that a + bw ∈ U(R), where Q(R) = {x ∈ R ∣ ? e ? e ² ∈ J(R), u ∈ U(R) such that x = eu}. These rings are shown to be a natural generalization of semilocal rings and unit regular rings. We investigate the extensions of strongly stable rings. K ₁-groups of such rings are also studied. In this way we recover and extend some results of Menal and Moncasi.     

On A(X) → TC(X) for some X

Let X be a connected based space and p be a two-regular prime number. If the fundamental group of X has order p, we compute the two-primary homotopy groups of the homotopy fiber of the trace map A(X) → TC(X) relating algebraic K-theory of spaces to topological cyclic homology. The proof uses a theorem of Dundas and an explicit calculation of the cyclotomic trace map K(ℤ[C_p])→ TC(ℤ[C_p]).     

On some exact sequences in the theory of cyclotomic fields

The purpose of this article is to show the existence of some exact sequences which relate the ideal class groups of cyclotomic fields to Gauss sums. These exact sequences imply the results of Hachimori, Ichimura and Beliaeva. Furthermore, we study the relations between the étale cohomology groups and some conjectures on cyclotomic fields.
