For a (finite) groupG and some prime powerp n, theH p n -subgroupH pn (G) is defined byH p n (G)=〈xεG|x pn≠1〉. A groupH≠1 is called aH p n -group, if there is a finite groupG such thatH is isomorphic toH p n (G) andH p n (G)≠G. It is known that the Fitting length of a solvableH p n -group cannot be arbitrarily large: Hartley and Rae proved in 1973 that it is bounded by some quadratic function ofn. In the following paper, we show that it is even bounded by some linear function ofn. In view of known examples of solvableH p n -groups having Fitting lengthn, this result is “almost” best possible.  相似文献

Let G be a finite abelian group and its Sylow p-subgroup a direct product of copies of a cyclic group of order p~r,i.e.,a finite homocyclic abelian group.LetΔ~n (G) denote the n-th power of the augmentation idealΔ(G) of the integral group ring ZG.The paper gives an explicit structure of the consecutive quotient group Q_n(G)=Δ~n(G)/Δ~(n 1)(G) for any natural number n and as a consequence settles a problem of Karpilovsky for this particular class of finite abelian groups.  相似文献

LetG be a profinite group which has an open subgroupH such that the cohomologicalp-dimensiond≔cdp(H) is finite (p is a fixed prime). The main result of this paper expresses thep-primary part of high degree cohomology ofG in terms of the elementary abelianp-subgroups ofG: From the latter one constructs a natural profinite simplicial setA G, on whichG acts by conjugation. ThenH n(G,M)≅H G n (AG,M) holds fornd+r and everyp-primary discreteG-moduleM (rp-rank ofG). If one uses profinite Farrell cohomology, which is introduced in this paper, the analogous fact holds in all degrees. These results are the profinite analogues of theorems by K.S. Brown for discrete groups.  相似文献

LetG be a group andα εAut(G);α is calledn-splitting if ggα...gα n-1=1 ∀g εG. In this note we study the structure of finite groups admitting an-splitting automorphism of orderp (p an odd prime number).

Let G be a finite p-group, where p is a prime number, and aG. Denote by Cl(a) = {gag−1| gG} the conjugacy class of a in G. Assume that |Cl(a)| = pn. Then Cl(a) Cl(a−1) = {xy | x ∈ Cl(a), yCl(a−1)} is the union of at least n(p − 1) + 1 distinct conjugacy classes of G. Received: 16 December 2004  相似文献

 The following result is proved. Let G be a residually finite group satisfying the identity ([x 1, x 2][x 3, x 4]) n  ≡ 1 for a positive integer n that is not divisible by p 2 q 2 for any distinct primes p and q. Then G′ is locally finite. Received 7 May 2001; in revised form 3 December 2001  相似文献

Letp be a prime,n a positive integer. Suppose thatG is a finite solvablep'-group acted on by an elementary abelianp-groupA. We prove that ifC G (ϕ) is of nilpotent length at mostn for every nontrivial element ϕ ofA and |A|≥p n+1 thenG is of nilpotent length at mostn+1.  相似文献

On Hua-Tuan’s conjecture   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Let G be a finite group and |G| = pn, p be a prime. For 0 m n, sm(G) denotes the number of subgroups of of order pm of G. Loo-Keng Hua and Hsio-Fu Tuan have ever conjectured: for an arbitrary finite p-group G, if p > 2, then sm(G) ≡ 1, 1 + p, 1 + p + p2 or 1 + p + 2p2 (mod p3). In this paper, we investigate the conjecture, and give some p-groups in which the conjecture holds and some examples in which the conjecture does not hold.  相似文献

Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献

For a finite p-group G and a positive integer k let I k (G) denote the intersection of all subgroups of G of order p k . This paper classifies the finite p-groups G with Ik(G) @ Cpk-1{{I}_k(G)\cong C_{p^{k-1}}} for primes p > 2. We also show that for any k, α ≥ 0 with 2(α + 1) ≤ k ≤ nα the groups G of order p n with Ik(G) @ Cpk-a{{I}_k(G)\cong C_{p^{k-\alpha}}} are exactly the groups of exponent p n-α .  相似文献

Let ϕ be an automorphism of prime order p of the group G with C G (ϕ) finite of order n. We prove the following. If G is soluble of finite rank, then G has a nilpotent characteristic subgroup of finite index and class bounded in terms of p only. If G is a group with finite Hirsch number h, then G has a soluble characteristic subgroup of finite index in G with derived length bounded in terms of p and n only and a soluble characteristic subgroup of finite index in G whose index and derived length are bounded in terms of p, n and h only. Here a group has finite Hirsch number if it is poly (cyclic or locally finite). This is a stronger notion than that used in [Wehrfritz B.A.F., Almost fixed-point-free automorphisms of order 2, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo (in press)], where the case p = 2 is discussed.  相似文献

Let G be a Lie group over a local field of characteristic p > 0 which admits a contractive automorphism α : GG (i.e., α n (x) → 1 as n → ∞, for each xG). We show that G is a torsion group of finite exponent and nilpotent. We also obtain results concerning the interplay between contractive automorphisms of Lie groups over local fields, contractive automorphisms of their Lie algebras, and positive gradations thereon. Some of the results extend to Lie groups over arbitrary complete ultrametric fields. Supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), grants GL 357/2-1 and GL 357/6-1.  相似文献

The definition of the group near-ring R[G] of the near-ring R over the group G as a near-ring of mappings from R (G) to itself is due to Le Riche et al. (Arch Math 52:132–139, 1989). In this paper we consider the augmentation ideal Δ of R[G]. If the exponent of G is not 2, then the structure of ΔR (G) is determined in terms of commutators and distributors. This is then used to show that Δ is nilpotent if and only if R is weakly distributive, has characteristic p n for some prime p and G is a finite p-group for the same prime p.   相似文献

Let G be a finite nonabelian group, ℤG its associated integral group ring, and Δ(G) its augmentation ideal. For the semidihedral group and another nonabelian 2-group the problem of their augmentation ideals and quotient groups Q n (G) = Δ n (G)/Δ n+1(G) is deal with. An explicit basis for the augmentation ideal is obtained, so that the structure of its quotient groups can be determined.  相似文献

Let G be a non-abelian group and associate a non-commuting graph ∇(G) with G as follows: the vertex set of ∇(G) is G\Z(G) with two vertices x and y joined by an edge whenever the commutator of x and y is not the identity. In this short paper we prove that if G is a finite group with ∇(G) ≅ ∇(M), where M = L 2(q) (q = p n , p is a prime), then GM.   相似文献

The undirected power graph G(S) of a semigroup S is an undirected graph whose vertex set is S and two vertices a,bS are adjacent if and only if ab and a m =b or b m =a for some positive integer m. In this paper we characterize the class of semigroups S for which G(S) is connected or complete. As a consequence we prove that G(G) is connected for any finite group G and G(G) is complete if and only if G is a cyclic group of order 1 or p m . Particular attention is given to the multiplicative semigroup ℤ n and its subgroup U n , where G(U n ) is a major component of G(ℤ n ). It is proved that G(U n ) is complete if and only if n=1,2,4,p or 2p, where p is a Fermat prime. In general, we compute the number of edges of G(G) for a finite group G and apply this result to determine the values of n for which G(U n ) is planar. Finally we show that for any cyclic group of order greater than or equal to 3, G(G) is Hamiltonian and list some values of n for which G(U n ) has no Hamiltonian cycle.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a tower {A n G: n} ≥ 1 of finite-dimensional algebras; here, G represents an arbitrary finite group,d denotes a complex parameter, and the algebraA n G(d) has a basis indexed by ‘G-stable equivalence relations’ on a set whereG acts freely and has 2n orbits. We show that the algebraA n G(d) is semi-simple for all but a finite set of values ofd, and determine the representation theory (or, equivalently, the decomposition into simple summands) of this algebra in the ‘generic case’. Finally we determine the Bratteli diagram of the tower {A n G(d): n} ≥ 1 (in the generic case).  相似文献

In representation theory of finite groups, one of the most important and interesting problems is that, for a p-block A of a finite group G where p is a prime, the numbers k(A) and (A) of irreducible ordinary and Brauer characters, respectively, of G in A are p-locally determined. We calculate k(A) and (A) for the cases where A is a full defect p-block of G, namely, a defect group P of A is a Sylow p-subgroup of G and P is a nonabelian metacyclic p-group M n+1(p) of order p n+1 and exponent p n for n \geqslant 2{n \geqslant 2}, and where A is not necessarily a full defect p-block but its defect group PM n+1(p) is normal in G. The proof is independent of the classification of finite simple groups.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. We extend Alan Camina’s theorem on conjugacy classes sizes which asserts that if the conjugacy classes sizes of G are {1, p a , q b , p a q b }, where p and q are two distinct primes and a and b are integers, then G is nilpotent. We show that let G be a group and assume that the conjugacy classes sizes of elements of primary and biprimary orders of G are exactly {1, p a , n,p a n} with (p, n) = 1, where p is a prime and a and n are positive integers. If there is a p-element in G whose index is precisely p a , then G is nilpotent and n = q b for some prime qp.  相似文献

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0, W(k) its ring of Witt vectors and R a complete discrete valuation ring dominating W(k). Consider finite groups G≃ (ℤ/pℤ) n , p≥ 2, n≥1. In a former paper we showed that a given realization of such a G as a group of k-automorphisms of k[[z]] must satisfy some conditions in order to have a lifting as a group of R-automorphisms of R[[Z]]. In this note, we give for every G (all p≥ 2, n>1) a realization as an automorphism group of k[[z]] which ca be lifted as a group of R-automorphisms of R[[Z]] for suitable R.
