Two partial orders that play an important role in the combinatorics of words, can be defined in a natural way on the free monoid X * generated by the finite alphabet X: the infix and the embedding orders. A set C of nonempty words is called an infix code (hypercode) over X if C is an antichain with respect to the infix (embedding) order. A set of words is said to be e-convex if it is convex with respect to the embedding order. Two characterizations of the e-convex infix codes are given as well as a sufficient condition for such codes to be finite. It is shown that the family EIC(X) of the e-convex infix codes with the empty word forms, under the operation of concatenation, a free submonoid of the free monoid B(X) of the biprefix codes and that the generating alphabet of EIC(X) is a sub-alphabet of the generating alphabet of B(X).This research was supported by Grant A7877 of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada.  相似文献

Let Λ be a commutative local uniserial ring with radical factor field k. We consider the category S(Λ) of embeddings of all possible submodules of finitely generated Λ-modules. In case Λ=Z/〈pn〉, where p is a prime, the problem of classifying the objects in S(Λ), up to isomorphism, has been posed by Garrett Birkhoff in 1934. In this paper we assume that Λ has Loewy length at least seven. We show that S(Λ) is controlled k-wild with a single control object IS(Λ). It follows that each finite dimensional k-algebra can be realized as a quotient End(X)/End(X)I of the endomorphism ring of some object XS(Λ) modulo the ideal End(X)I of all maps which factor through a finite direct sum of copies of I.  相似文献

A monoid S 1 obtained by adjoining a unit element to a 2-testable semigroup S is said to be 2-testable. It is shown that a 2-testable monoid S 1 is either inherently non-finitely based or hereditarily finitely based, depending on whether or not the variety generated by the semigroup S contains the Brandt semigroup of order five. Consequently, it is decidable in quadratic time if a finite 2-testable monoid is finitely based.  相似文献

Let W be an associative PI-algebra over a field F of characteristic zero, graded by a finite group G. Let idG(W) denote the T-ideal of G-graded identities of W. We prove: 1. [G-graded PI-equivalence] There exists a field extension K of F and a finite-dimensional Z/2Z×G-graded algebra A over K such that idG(W)=idG(A) where A is the Grassmann envelope of A. 2. [G-graded Specht problem] The T-ideal idG(W) is finitely generated as a T-ideal. 3. [G-graded PI-equivalence for affine algebras] Let W be a G-graded affine algebra over F. Let X be a 1-connected CW-complex of finite type and ε?(X) be the group of homotopy classes of self-equivalences of X which induce the identity on homotopy groups. In this paper, we prove that every finitely generated 2-solvable rational nilpotent group is realizable as ε?(X) where X is the rationalization of a 1-connected CW-complex of finite type.  相似文献

LetA be a commutativeAW*-algebra.We denote by S(A) the *-algebra of measurable operators that are affiliated with A. For an ideal I in A, let s(I) denote the support of I. Let Y be a solid linear subspace in S(A). We find necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of nonzero band preserving derivations from I to Y. We prove that no nonzero band preserving derivation from I to Y exists if either Y ? Aor Y is a quasi-normed solid space. We also show that a nonzero band preserving derivation from I to S(A) exists if and only if the boolean algebra of projections in the AW*-algebra s(I)A is not σ-distributive.  相似文献

Let K be a compact Lie group and W a finite-dimensional real K-module. Let X be a K-stable real algebraic subset of W. Let I(X){\mathcal{I}(X)} denote the ideal of X in \mathbbR[W]{\mathbb{R}[W]} and let IK(X){\mathcal{I}_{K}(X)} be the ideal generated by I(X)K{\mathcal{I}(X)^{K}} . We find necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for I(X) = IK(X){{\mathcal{I}(X) = \mathcal{I}_{K}(X)}} and for ?{IK(X)} = I(X){{\sqrt{\mathcal{I}_{K}(X)} = \mathcal{I}(X)}} . Let U be a class of subsets of a finite set X. Elements of U are called blocks. Let υ, t, λ and k be nonnegative integers such that υ?k?t?0. A pair (X, U) is called a (υ, k, λ) t-design, denoted by Sλ(t, k, υ), if (1) |X| = υ, (2) every t-subset of X is contained in exactly λ blocks and (3) for every block A in U, |A| = k. A Möbius plane M is an S1(3, q+1, q2+1) where q is a positive integer. Let ∞ be a fixed point in M. If ∞ is deleted from M, together with all the blocks containing ∞, then we obtain a point-residual design M*. It can be easily checked that M* is an Sq(2, q+1, q2). Any Sq(2, q+1, q2) is called a pseudo-point-residual design of order q, abbreviated by PPRD(q). Let A and B be two blocks in a PPRD(q)M*. A and B are said to be tangent to each other at z if and only if AB={z}. M* is said to have the Tangency Property if for any block A in M*, and points x and y such that x?A and y?A, there exists at most one block containing y and tangent to A at x. This paper proves that any PPRD(q)M* is uniquely embeddable into a Möbius plane if and only if M* satisfies the Tangency Property.  相似文献

Let Σ be a σ-algebra of subsets of a non-empty set Ω. Let X be a real Banach space and let X* stand for the Banach dual of X. Let B(Σ, X) be the Banach space of Σ-totally measurable functions f: Ω → X, and let B(Σ, X)* and B(Σ, X)** denote the Banach dual and the Banach bidual of B(Σ, X) respectively. Let bvca(Σ, X*) denote the Banach space of all countably additive vector measures ν: Σ → X* of bounded variation. We prove a form of generalized Vitali-Hahn-Saks theorem saying that relative σ(bvca(Σ, X*), B(Σ, X))-sequential compactness in bvca(Σ, X*) implies uniform countable additivity. We derive that if X reflexive, then every relatively σ(B(Σ, X)*, B(Σ, X))-sequentially compact subset of B(Σ, X)c~ (= the σ-order continuous dual of B(Σ, X)) is relatively σ(B(Σ, X)*, B(Σ, X)**)-sequentially compact. As a consequence, we obtain a Grothendieck type theorem saying that σ(B(Σ, X)*, B(Σ, X))-convergent sequences in B(Σ, X)c~ are σ(B(Σ, X)*, B(Σ, X)**)-convergent.  相似文献

We prove the following results: (1) Let R ? S be two commutative rings. Suppose that dim R = 0.If f(X) ∈ S[[X]]is integral over R[[X]], then every coefficient of f(X) is integral over R. (2) Let dim R ≥ 1. There exists a ring S containing R and a power series f(X) ∈ S[[X]]such that f(X) is integral over R[[X]], but not all coefficients of f(X) are integral over R. (3) Let k ? R. Suppose that R is algebraic over the field k. Then R[[X]] is integral over k[[X]] if and only if the nilradical of R is nilpotent and the separable degree and the inseparable exponent of R red over k are finite.  相似文献

Let TR be the rings of integers in a number field and a finite Galois extension field. We study relations between the elasticity ρ(R) of the monoid of nonzero elements of R and the elasticity ρ(S) of the monoid S of norms to T of those elements. We show ρ(R)?ρ(S) and that equality holds if the norms of irreducible elements of R are irreducible in S, which is true, in particular, if either ρ(R)<2 or ρ(S)=1.  相似文献

Let V be a vector space over a field F. Assume that the characteristic of F is large, i.e. char(F)>dimV. Let T:VV be an invertible linear map. We answer the following question in this paper. When doesVadmit a T-invariant non-degenerate symmetric (resp. skew-symmetric) bilinear form? We also answer the infinitesimal version of this question.Following Feit and Zuckerman 2, an element g in a group G is called real if it is conjugate in G to its own inverse. So it is important to characterize real elements in GL(V,F). As a consequence of the answers to the above question, we offer a characterization of the real elements in GL(V,F).Suppose V is equipped with a non-degenerate symmetric (resp. skew-symmetric) bilinear form B. Let S be an element in the isometry group I(V,B). A non-degenerate S-invariant subspace W of (V,B) is called orthogonally indecomposable with respect to S if it is not an orthogonal sum of proper S-invariant subspaces. We classify the orthogonally indecomposable subspaces. This problem is non-trivial for the unipotent elements in I(V,B). The level of a unipotent T is the least integer k such that (T-I)k=0. We also classify the levels of unipotents in I(V,B).  相似文献

Abstract

Let I(X, F) denote the incidence algebra of the locally finite partially ordered set, X, defined over the field, F. This paper considers when the set of torsion elements of I(X, F) forms a group. If F is of finite characteristic, it is shown that the torsion elements of I(X, F) form a group if and only if X is bounded, while if F is of characteristic 0, the torsion elements of the incidence algebra form a group if and only if X is an antichain.  相似文献

Let A be a commutative unital Banach algebra with connected maximal ideal space X. We show that the Gelfand transform induces an isomorphism between the group of commutative Galois extensions of A with given finite Abelian Galois group, and the corresponding group of extensions of C(X). This result is applied, when X is sufficiently nice, to construct a separable projective finitely generated faithful Banach A-algebra whose maximal ideal space is a given finitely fibered covering space of X.  相似文献

As generalizations of annihilators and associated primes, we introduce the notions of weak annihilators and weak associated primes, respectively. We first study the properties of the weak annihilator of a subset X in a ring R. We next investigate how the weak associated primes of a ring R behave under passage to the skew monoid ring R*M. Let R be a semicommutative ring, and M an ordered monoid and φ: M → Aut(R) a compatible monoid homomorphism. Then we can describe all weak associated primes of the skew monoid ring R*M in terms of the weak associated primes of R in a very straightforward way.  相似文献
