For numerical analysis of shock wave propagation in gas-particle mixtures, drag coefficients of a sphere in steady flows are generally used. However, it is shown both experimentally and numerically that a shock loaded solid sphere experiences unsteady drag forces. The paper describes a model of unsteady drag force and its effect on the structure of the non-equilibrium region behind a shock front traveling in a dusty gas. The results are compared with those obtained by using a steady drag coefficient and are discussed. It is demonstrated that the large drag force at the early stage of the interaction between shock-wave induced flow and a solid particle affects the flow structure that is obtained with a steady drag force.   相似文献

The laminar boundary layer behind a constant-speed shock wave moving through a dusty gas along a solid surface is studied. The Saffman lift force acting on a spherical particle in a gas boundary layer is taken into account. A method for calculating the density profile of dispersed phase near the wall is proposed and some numerical results are given. It is shown that behind the shock wave, there exists a curved thin layer where the density of particles is many times higher than the original one. This dust collection effect may be of essential importance to the problem of dust explosion in industry.  相似文献

The interaction of a planar shock wave with a loose dusty bulk layer has been investigated both experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted in a shock tube. The incident shock wave velocity and particle diameters were measured with the use of pressure transducers and a Malvern particle sizer, respectively. The flow fields, induced by shock waves, of both gas and granular phase were visualized by means of shadowgraphs and pulsed X-ray radiography with trace particles added. In addition, a two-phase model for granular flow presented by Gidaspow is introduced and is extended to describe such a complex phenomenon. Based on the kinetic theory, such a two-phase model has the advantage of being able to clarify many physical concepts, like particulate viscosity, granular conductivity and solid pressure, and deduce the correlative constitutive equations of the solid phase. The AUSM scheme was employed for the numerical calculation. The flow field behind the shock wave was displayed numerically and agrees well with our corresponding experimental results.   相似文献

A direct numerical simulation of a strongly coaxial swirling particle-laden flow is conducted with reference to a previous experiment. The carrier phase is simulated as a coaxial swirling flow through a short nozzle injecting into a large container. The particle phase is carried by the primary jet, and simulated in the Lagrangian approach. The drag force, slip-shear force and slip-rotation force experienced by particles are calculated. A partial validation of the results is followed. The results are analyzed in Eulerian approach focusing on the statistical behavior of particle motion. The relative importance of the drag, slip-shear and slip-rotation forces under different Stokes numbers is indicated quantitatively. The particle velocity profiles, fluctuations, Reynolds stress, and turbulence intensity are demonstrated and analyzed respectively. An important “choke” behavior for large particles within the mainstream is found and interpreted. Additionally, the patterns of particle distribution and the helical structures of particle motion under different Stokes numbers are demonstrated qualitatively and analyzed quantitatively.  相似文献

Particle-laden or droplet-laden turbulent flows occur in many industrial applications and in natural phenomena. Knowledge about the properties of these flows can help to improve the design of unit operations in industry and to predict for instance the occurrence of rain showers. This knowledge can be obtained from experimental research and from numerical simulations. In this paper a review is given of numerical simulation methods for particle-laden flows. There are various simulation methods possible. They range from methods in which all details, including the flow around each particle, are resolved, via point-particle methods, in which for each particle an equation of motion is solved, to Eulerian methods in which equations for particle concentration and velocity are solved. This review puts the emphasis on the intermediate class of methods, the Euler-Lagrange methods in which the continuous phase is described by an Eulerian approach and the dispersed phase in a Lagrangian way with equations of motion for each individual particle.  相似文献

The passage of planar shocks in a dusty gas was investigated to note effects due to particle loading and initial shock Mach number. Two-phase flow equations have been added to a conservative, monotonic flow solver to allow study of compressible particle and droplet flows, which are of importance for shock propagation in two-phase flows and spray propulsion systems. The formulation developed herein employed a conservative Eulerian treatment for the gas and particle phases. The computations were performed using the finite element method-flux corrected transport (FEM-FCT) scheme, which has shown excellent predictive capability of various compressible flows which include both strong and weak shocks. The flux limiting technique was modified to provide monotonic particle velocity fields to increase the scheme's computational stability. Adaptive unstructured methodology based on adapting to high gradients of both the fluid and particle densities was used in conjunction with the conservative shock-capturing scheme to adequately resolve strong flowfield gradients. The shock attenuation of this scheme was then compared with previous experimental and numerical results and was found to yield robust predictions. Various interphase coupling terms were also considered to note their effect on the shock attenuation. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag tex Shock Waves macro package 1.0 and the AMS fonts, developed by the American Mathematical Society.  相似文献

Particle migration in a horizontal flow of dilute suspension through a vertical slot with porous walls is studied using the two-continua approach. The lateral migration is induced by two opposite effects: an inertial lift force due to particle settling and directed toward the slot centre-line, and a drag due to leak-off entraining particles toward the walls. An expression for the inertial lift on a settling particle in a horizontal channel flow found recently is generalized to the case of a low leak-off velocity. The evolution of an initial uniform particle concentration profile is studied within the full Lagrangian approach. Four migration regimes are found differing by the direction of particle migration and numbers of equilibrium positions. Conditions of the regime change and a critical value of dimensionless leak-off velocity for particle deposition on the walls are obtained analytically. Suspension flows with zones where the particle concentration is zero or increases infinitely, are studied numerically.  相似文献

Explosive dispersal of solid particles   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Abstract. The rapid dispersal of inert solid particles due to the detonation of a heterogeneous explosive, consisting of a packed bed of steel beads saturated with a liquid explosive, has been investigated experimentally and numerically. Detonation of the spherical charge generates a blast wave followed by a complex supersonic gas-solid flow in which, in some cases, the beads catch up to and penetrate the leading shock front. The interplay between the particle dynamics and the blast wave propagation was investigated experimentally as a function of the particle size (100–925 m) and charge diameter (8.9–21.2 cm) with flash X-ray radiography and blast wave instrumentation. The flow topology during the dispersal process ranges from a dense granular flow to a dilute gas-solid flow. Difficulties in the modeling of the high-speed gas-solid flow are discussed, and a heuristic model for the equation of state for the solid flow is developed. This model is incorporated into the Eulerian two-phase fluid model of Baer and Nunziato (1986) and simulations are carried out. The results of this investigation indicate that the crossing of the particles through the shock front strongly depends on the charge geometry, the charge size and the material density of the particles. Moreover, there exists a particle size limit below which the particles cannot penetrate the shock for the range of charge sizes considered. Above this limit, the distance required for the particles to overtake the shock is not very sensitive to the particle size but remains sensitive to the particle material density. Overall, excellent agreement was observed between the experimental and computational results. Received 16 August 1999 / Accepted 26 June 2000  相似文献

The subject of this paper is dust lifting behind shock waves, a process that is important for the formation of explosive dust clouds in air. While Eulerian–Eulerian has been the standard numerical technique for such simulations, the Eulerian–Lagrangian technique has been used in this paper, making it possible to take into account more physical phenomena, such as particle–particle and particle–wall collisions. The results of the simulations are shown mainly graphically, as snapshots of particle positions at given times after the passing of the shock wave. The results show that the collisions, and the coefficient of restitution assumed for them, is important in determining the mobility and lifting of dust behind shock waves. The results also show that the idea of a horizontally travelling shock wave is an oversimplification: the strong pressure gradient at the surface results in a series of reflected waves generated at the surface and travelling into the gas phase.  相似文献

On the basis of the mesoscopic theory of Boltzmann-type velocity distribution function, the modified Boltzmann model equation describing the one-dimensional gas flows from various flow regimes is presented by incorporating the molecular interaction models relating to the viscosity and diffusion cross-sections, density, temperature and the dependent exponent of viscosity into the molecular collision frequency. The gas-kinetic numerical method for directly solving the molecular velocity distribution function is studied by introducing the reduced distribution functions and the discrete velocity ordinate method, in which the unsteady time-splitting method and the NND finite difference scheme are applied. To study the inner flows of non-equilibrium shock wave structures, the one-dimensional unsteady shock-tube problems with various Knudsen numbers and the steady shock wave problems at different Mach numbers are numerically simulated. The computed results are found to give good agreement with the theoretical, DSMC and experimental results. The computing practice has confirmed the good precision and reliability of the gas-kinetic numerical algorithm in solving the highly nonequilibrium shock wave disturbances from various flow regimes.  相似文献

New numerical and experimental results on the transition between regular and Mach reflections of steady shock waves are presented. The influence of flow three-dimensionality on transition between steady regular and Mach reflection has been studied in detail both numerically and experimentally. Characteristic features of 3D shock wave configuration, such as peripheral Mach reflection, non-monotonous Mach stem variation in transverse direction, the existence of combined Mach-regular-peripheral Mach shock wave configuration, have been found in the numerical simulations. The application of laser sheet imaging technique in streamwise direction allowed us to confirm all the details of shock wave configuration in the experiments. Close agreement of the numerical and experimental data on Mach stem heights is shown. Received 23 November 2000 / Accepted 25 April 2001  相似文献

The present paper studies numerical modelling of near-wall two-phase flows induced by a normal shock wave moving at a constant speed, over a micron-sized particles bed. In this two-fluid model, the possibility of particle trajectory intersection is considered and a full Lagrangian formulation of the dispersed phase is introduced. The finiteness of the Reynolds and Mach numbers of the flow around a particle as well as the fineness of the particle sizes are taken into account in describing the interactions between the carrier- and dispersed-phases. For the small mass-loading ratio case, the numerical simulation of flow structure of the two phases is implemented and the profiles of the particle number density are obtained under the constant-flux condition on the wall. The effects of the shock Mach number and the particle size and material density on particle entrainment motion are discussed in detail. The obtained results indicate that interphase non-equilibrium in the velocity and temperature is a common feature for this type of flows and a local particle accumulation zone may form near the envelope of the particle trajectory family.  相似文献

This paper deals with the formation of a secondary shock wave behind the shock wave diffracting at a two-dimensional convex corner for incident shock Mach numbers ranging from 1.03 to 1.74 in air. Experiments were carried out using a 60 mm 150 mm shock tube equipped with holographic interferometry. The threshold incident shock wave Mach number () at which a secondary shock wave appeared was found to be = 1.32 at an 81° corner and = 1.33 at a 120° corner. These secondary shock waves are formed due to the existence of a locally supersonic flow behind the diffracting shock wave. Behind the diffracting shock wave, the subsonic flow is accelerated and eventually becomes locally supersonic. A simple unsteady flow analysis revealed that for gases with specific heats ratio the threshold shock wave Mach number was = 1.346. When the value of is less than this, the vortex is formed at the corner without any discontinuous waves accompanying above the slip line. The viscosity was found to be less effective on the threshold of the secondary shock wave, although it attenuated the pressure jump at the secondary shock wave. This is well understood by the consideration of the effect of the wall friction in one-dimensional duct flows. In order to interpret the experimental results a numerical simulation using a shock adaptive unstructured grid Eulerian solver was also carried out. Shock wave propagation in a branched duct   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The propagation of a planar shock wave in a 90° branched duct is studied experimentally and numerically. It is shown that the interaction of the transmitted shock wave with the branching segment results in a complex, two-dimensional unsteady flow. Multiple shock wave reflections from the duct's walls cause weakening of transmitted waves and, at late times, an approach to an equilibrium, one-dimensional flow. While at most places along the branched duct walls calculated pressures are lower than that existing behind the original incident shock wave, at the branching segment's right corner, where a head on-collision between the transmitted wave and the corner is experienced, pressures that are significantly higher than those existing behind the original incident shock wave are encountered. The numerically evaluated pressures can be accepted with confidence, due to the very good agreement found between experimental and numerical results with respect to the geometry of the complex wave pattern observed inside the branched duct. During gas–solid mixture conveying in a dense phase, material is conveyed in dunes on the bottom of the pipeline, or as a pulsating moving bed. This phenomenon increases the pressure drop and power consumption. We introduce a new technique to reduce the pressure drop, which is termed the perforated double tube. To validate this new model, the gas–solid flow pattern and pressure drop were studied numerically and experimentally. The power consumption was also studied experimentally. Numerical studies were performed by the Eulerian–Lagrangian approach to predict gas and particle movement in the pipeline. Comparisons between the numerical predictions and the experimental results for the gas–solid flow patterns and pressure drop show good agreement.  相似文献
