A molecular rectangle of the form ([Re(CO)(3)](2)BiBzIm)(2)-mu,mu'-(LL)(2), where BiBzIm is 2,2'-bisbenzimidazolate and LL are cofacially aligned [5,15-bis(4-ethynylpyridyl)-10,20-bis(n-hexyl)-porphyrinato]zinc ligands, has been examined via electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and electronic Stark effect methods. The rectangle displays three electrochemically accessible reductions assigned as LL based. The singly reduced rectangles are part of an unusual class of mixed-valence complexes where cofacial ligands, in this case porphyrins, comprise the degenerate redox centers. Absorption spectra for the singly reduced rectangle show two intense and narrow absorption bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region; the lower energy band is assigned as an intervalence transition. Time-dependent density functional theory electronic structure calculations support the assignment. Curiously, the transition displays a non-Marcus-type solvent dependence. NIR region electroabsorbance measurements of the singly reduced rectangle reveal a small but readily measurable dipole moment change of 0.56 +/- 0.05 eA. On the basis of spectroelectrochemical and electroabsorption measurements, the singly reduced rectangle is assigned as a borderline class II/class III mixed-valence species.  相似文献

Molecular rectangles having the form ([Re(CO)3]2(X)2)(2)-mu,mu'-(LL)2, where X is either a bridging alkoxide or phenylthiolate group and LL is 4,4'-bipyridine or pyrazine, are characterized by cofacial LL pairs that are in van der Waals contact across the "long" side of the rectangle. Cyclic voltammetry shows that the redox-accessible bridging ligands, LL, are reduced in sequential, one-electron reactions. The singly reduced rectangles represent an unusual type of mixed-valence compound in which the LL ligands themselves are the redox centers. Spectroelectrochemical measurements for mixed-valence forms of these rectangles reveal intense, asymmetric absorption bands in the near-infrared region, assigned as intervalence transitions. Electroabsorption (Stark spectroscopy) measurements reveal minute changes in dipole moment and therefore a lack of significant charge transfer upon intervalence excitation. Thus, the rectangles are unusual examples of class III (fully valence delocalized) molecular mixed-valence species that employ direct donor-orbital/acceptor-orbital overlap rather than covalent-bond-mediated superexchange to achieve the large electronic coupling strengths required for delocalization.  相似文献

Manganese(II), iron(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and chromium(III) complexes of (E)-2-(2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)-2-oxo-N-phenylacetamide were synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal (TG and DTA) analyses, IR, UV-vis and (1)H NMR spectra as well as magnetic moment. Mononuclear complexes are obtained with 1:1 molar ratio except [Mn(HOS)(2)(H(2)O)(2)] and [Co(OS)(2)](H(2)O)(2) complexes which are obtained with 1:2 molar ratios. The IR spectra of ligand and metal complexes reveal various modes of chelation. The ligand behaves as a monobasic bidentate one and coordination occurs via the enolic oxygen atom and azomethine nitrogen atom. The ligand behaves also as a monobasic tridentate one and coordination occurs through the carbonyl oxygen atom, azomethine nitrogen atom and the hydroxyl oxygen. Moreover, the ligand behaves as a dibasic tridentate and coordination occurs via the enolic oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and the hydroxyl oxygen atoms. The electronic spectra and magnetic moment measurements reveal that all complexes possess octahedral geometry except the copper complexes possesses a square planar geometry. From the modeling studies, the bond length, bond angle, HOMO, LUMO and dipole moment had been calculated to confirm the geometry of the ligands and their investigated complexes. The thermal studies showed the type of water molecules involved in metal complexes as well as the thermal decomposition of some metal complexes. The protonation constant of the ligand and the stability constant of metal complexes were determined pH-metrically in 50% (v/v) dioxane-water mixture at 298 K and found to be consistent with Irving-Williams order. Moreover, the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of these compounds against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherechia coli and Candida albicans were determined.  相似文献

We have synthesised a series of new dinuclear metallocenes [{M(Cp*)(C5H4)}2X] (Cp* = eta5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl; M = Fe, Co, X = CMe2, SiMe2, GeMe2; M = Fe, X = Si2Me4). For the neutral dicobalt complexes, magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal intramolecular antiferromagnetic interactions of -21 and -14 cm(-1) for SiMe2- and GeMe2-bridged species, respectively, but negligible interaction for the CMe2-bridged compound. In contrast, intervalence charge-transfer (IVCT) data for the mixed-valence monocations of both Fe and Co complexes show electronic coupling to decrease in the order CMe2 > SiMe2 > GeMe2. This suggests that electronic coupling is principally through-space in contrast to results found from previous studies. The IVCT data also show much stronger coupling in the dicobalt species versus their diiron analogues.  相似文献

Reaction of [MoV(TpMe,Me)(O)Cl2] with 1,3-, 1,5-, 1,6-, 2,6-, and 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene affords the dinuclear complexes [[Mo(TpMe,Me)(O)Cl]2(mu-C10H6O2)], abbreviated as 1,3-Mo2, 1,5-Mo2, 1,6-Mo2, 2,6-Mo2, and 2,7-Mo2, according to the substitution pattern of the bridging ligand. Electrochemical, UV-vis/NIR spectroscopic, and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies have been used to probe the effects of the bridging-ligand topology on the metal-metal electronic and magnetic interactions. The complexes can be split into two classes according to the properties of the bridging ligands. Complexes 1,3-Mo2, 1,6-Mo2, and 2,7-Mo2 all have bridging ligands that are topologically equivalent to meta-substituted bridging ligands such as 1,3-dihydroxybenzene, in that (i) there is an odd number of C atoms separating the two oxygen atoms, regardless of the pathway that is taken through the ligand skeleton, and (ii) the doubly oxidized from of the bridging ligand is a diradical. These complexes are classified as being "T-meta" (= topologically equivalent to meta). Complexes 1,5-Mo2 and 2,6-Mo2 have bridging ligands that are topologically equivalent to para-substituted groups such as 1,4-dihydroxybenzene, in that (i) there is an even number of C atoms separating the two oxygen atoms, whichever pathway is taken through the ligand skeleton, and (ii) the doubly oxidized form of the bridging ligand is a diamagnetic quinone. These complexes are classified as "T-para". Electrochemical studies show that the comproportionation constants for the Mo(V)/Mo(IV) mixed-valence states of the T-meta complexes are smaller than those for the T-para complexes. Spectroelectrochemical studies show that the Mo(V)/Mo(IV) mixed-valence states of the T-para complexes show pronounced Mo(IV)-->Mo(V) IVCT transitions, whereas those of the T-meta complexes do not show these transitions. Magnetic susceptibility studies show that the T-meta complexes all display ferromagnetic exchange between the metal centers, whereas the T-para complexes all display antiferromagnetic exchange. Thus, both the electronic and the magnetic properties of these complexes show a clear demarcation into two sets according to the bridging-ligand topology.  相似文献

The electronic structures of [M(L(Bu))(2)](-) (L(Bu)=3,5-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzenedithiol; M=Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Co, Au) complexes and their electrochemically generated oxidized and reduced forms have been investigated by using sulfur K-edge as well as metal K- and L-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The electronic structure content of the sulfur K-edge spectra was determined through detailed comparison of experimental and theoretically calculated spectra. The calculations were based on a new simplified scheme based on quasi-relativistic time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and proved to be successful in the interpretation of the experimental data. It is shown that dithiolene ligands act as noninnocent ligands that are readily oxidized to the dithiosemiquinonate(-) forms. The extent of electron transfer strongly depends on the effective nuclear charge of the central metal, which in turn is influenced by its formal oxidation state, its position in the periodic table, and scalar relativistic effects for the heavier metals. Thus, the complexes [M(L(Bu))(2)](-) (M=Ni, Pd, Pt) and [Au(L(Bu))(2)] are best described as delocalized class III mixed-valence ligand radicals bound to low-spin d(8) central metal ions while [M(L(Bu))(2)](-) (M=Cu, Au) and [M(L(Bu))(2)](2-) (M=Ni, Pd, Pt) contain completely reduced dithiolato(2-) ligands. The case of [Co(L(Bu))(2)](-) remains ambiguous. On the methodological side, the calculation led to the new result that the transition dipole moment integral is noticeably different for S(1s)-->valence-pi versus S(1s)-->valence-sigma transitions, which is explained on the basis of the differences in radial distortion that accompany chemical bond formation. This is of importance in determining experimental covalencies for complexes with highly covalent metal-sulfur bonds from ligand K-edge absorption spectroscopy.  相似文献

The synthesis of dicopper(I) complexes [Cu2(BBAN)(MeCN)2](OTf)2 (1), [Cu2(BBAN)(py)2](OTf)2 (2), [Cu2(BBAN)(1-Me-BzIm)2](OTf)2 (3), [Cu2(BBAN)(1-Me-Im)2](OTf)2 (4), and [Cu2(BBAN)(mu-O2CCPh3)](OTf) (5), where BBAN = 2,7-bis((dibenzylamino)methyl)-1,8-naphthyridine, py = pyridine, 1-Me-Im = 1-methylimidazole, and 1-Me-BzIm = 1-methylbenzimidazole, are described. Short copper-copper distances ranging from 2.6151(6) to 2.7325(5) A were observed in the solid-state structures of these complexes depending on the terminal ligands used. The cyclic voltammogram of compound 5 dissolved in THF exhibited a reversible redox wave at E1/2 = -25 mV vs Cp2Fe+/Cp2Fe. When complex 5 was treated with 1 equiv of silver(I) triflate, a mixed-valence dicopper(I,II) complex [Cu2(BBAN)(mu-O2CCPh3)(OTf)](OTf) (6) was prepared. A short copper-copper distance of 2.4493(14) A observed from the solid-state structure indicates the presence of a copper-copper interaction. Variable-temperature EPR studies showed that complex 6 has a fully delocalized electronic structure in frozen 2-methyltetrahydrofuran solution down to liquid helium temperature. The presence of anionic ligands seems to be an important factor to stabilize the mixed-valence dicopper(I,II) state. Compounds 1-4 with neutral nitrogen-donor terminal ligands cannot be oxidized to the mixed-valence analogues either chemically or electrochemically.  相似文献

The Marcus continuum model for the solvent reorientation contribution to the energetics of outer-sphere electron transfer has often been used to analyze the energy of the intervalence transfer (IT) electronic absorption band for a binuclear mixed-valence transition-metal complex. Eop, the energy required to transfer an electron optically in a mixed-valence complex, was measured as a function of pressure for two binuclear mixed-valence complexes in different solvents which freeze at 25°C under pressures < 10 kbar. Essentially no shifts of the IT bands were observed, indicating the inadequacy of the dielectric continuum model for such complexes.  相似文献

A series of redox isomers of [CrIII(X4SQ)(X4Cat)2]2-, [CrIII(X4SQ)2(X4Cat)]-, and [CrIII(X4SQ)3]0 (X = Cl and Br, SQ = semiquinonate, and Cat = catecholate) have been synthesized and characterized as charge-transfer (CT) compounds with metallocenium cations: (CoIIICp2)2[CrIII(Cl4SQ)(Cl4Cat)2] (1), (CoIIICp2)2[CrIII(Br4SQ)(Br4Cat)2] (2), (FeIIICp2)[CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)].C6H6 (4), (FeIIICp2)[CrIII(Br4SQ)2(Br4Cat)].CS2 (5), and (FeIIICp2)[CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)][CrIII(Cl4SQ)3] (6). First, the oxidation states of the chromium complexes are strongly dependent on the redox potentials of the metallocenes used. The CoIICp2, exhibiting stronger reduction power than FeIICp2, is useful for two-electron reduction of the [CrIII(X4SQ)3]0, affording [CrIII(X4SQ)(X4Cat)2]2- (1 and 2), which are first isolated and crystallographically characterized in the solid state. In contrast the reaction with FeIICp2 affords only [CrIII(X4SQ)2(X4Cat)]- (4 and 5). Second, solvents influence crystal structures of these compounds. The solvent set of C6H6/CS2 gives 1:1:C6H6 compound 4 with unique charged anions, [CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)]-, while the other set, n-C6H12/CS2, affords 1:2 compound 6 including the two redox isomers, [CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)]- and [CrIII(Cl4SQ)3]0. The [CrIII(X4SQ)(X4Cat)2]2- anions in 1 and 2 show no significant interconnection between them (discrete type), while the [CrIII(X4SQ)2(X4Cat)]- anions in 4-6 show one-dimensional column-type structures with the aid of intermolecular stacking interactions of the ligand moieties. The anions in 4 show additional stacking interaction with the [FeIIICp2]+ to form one-dimensional ...[D][A][S][D][A]... (D = [FeIIICp2]+, A = [CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)]-, and S = C6H6) type mixed-stack arrangements similar to that of previously reported (CoIIICp2)[CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)].C6H6 (3). Compound 6 forms a two-dimensional sheet structure where the two redox isomers, [CrIII(Cl4SQ)2(Cl4Cat)]- and [CrIII(Cl4SQ)3]0, are included. The sheet is regarded as a mixed-valence molecular assembly. Two types of the anions, [CrIII(X4SQ)(X4Cat)2]2- (1 and 2) and [CrIII(X4SQ)2(X4Cat)]- (4-6), exhibiting an intramolecular mixed-valence state, show intramolecular intervalence CT transition (IVCT) from the Cat to the SQ at near 5800 and 4300 cm-1, respectively, both in the solution and in the solid states. The intermolecular mixed-valence state of 6 was characterized by absorption spectroscopy, electric conductivity, and SQUID magnetometry. Interestingly, this mixed-valence state of the chromium module is dependent on the redox active nature of the coordinated ligands.  相似文献

The supersonic beams of the (1-1) metal-ligand complexes of Al-CH(3)CN and Al-NH(3) were produced by a laser evaporation method. Nondestructive structure selection of the complexes and the dipole moment determination were performed by using a 2-m electrostatic hexapole field. The experimentally determined permanent dipole moments are 1.2 +/- 0.1 D for Al-CH(3)CN and 2.7 +/- 0.2 D for Al-NH(3). We find that the dipole moment of Al-NH(3) becomes larger than that of neat NH(3), while the formation of the Al-CH(3)CN complex produces a smaller dipole moment than that of neat CH(3)CN on the other hand. We performed the ab initio calculations to draw out plausible complex structures and to clarify the bonding character after formation of the complex, and we made comparisons with the computational results done by several groups. The Mulliken population analysis suggests the Al-->CH(3)CN charge flow, but on the other hand the Natural population analysis indicates very little charge flow. For the Al-NH(3) complex, the polarization effect of NH(3) and the N-->Al sigma donation would enhance the dipole moment strength. However, there still remains a controversial disagreement between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results. Further experimental determination using the hexapole method for various metal-ligand complexes and clusters could reveal the basic nature of interaction in the complex systems in general, and this method would complement theoretical calculations.  相似文献

The pi-bonding of the beta-diketonate ligands in C2-symmetric (dike)2TiX2 complexes engenders a significant electronic dissymmetry, with the LUMO of the complex resembling a "tipped" dz2 orbital whose tilt with respect to the plane containing the metal and the two X groups is determined by the configuration at titanium. The ability of this electronic dissymmetry to promote chiral recognition has been probed in 1,1'-bi-2-naphtholate complexes (RCOCHCOR)2Ti(BINOL) (R = CH3, Ph, or tBu). The complexes show exclusively one diastereomer by NMR, which has been established as the one predicted on electronic grounds by crystallography of the dibenzoylmethane and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptanedione complexes. Confirmation that the selectivity is due to electronic rather than steric factors is given by the behavior of the tin analogues, which are structurally similar but show much smaller diastereoselectivities.  相似文献

Studies on the electronic structures and trend in DNA-binding affinities of a series of Ru(II) complexes [Ru(bpy)2(p-R-pip)]2+ (bpy = 2,2-bipyridine; pip = 2-phenylimidazo[4,5-f] [1,10]-phenanthroline; R = -OH, -CH3, -H, -NO2) 1-4 have been carried out, using the density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/LanL2DZ level. The electronic absorption spectra of these complexes were also investigated using time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) at the B3LYP//LanL2DZ/6-31G level. The computational results show that the substituents on the parent ligand (pip) have a significant effect on the electronic structures of the complexes, in particular, on the energies of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and near some unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMO+x, x = 1-4). With the increase in electron-withdrawing ability of the substituent in this series, the LUMO+x (x = 0-4) energies of the complexes are substantially reduced in order, for example, epsilon(LUMO)(1) approximately epsilon(LUMO)(2) > epsilon(LUMO)(3) > epsilon(LUMO)(4), whereas the pi-component populations of the LUMO+x (x = 0-4) are not substantially different. Combining the consideration of the bigger steric hindrance of complex 2, the trend in DNA-binding affinities (K(b)) of the complexes, that is, K(b)(2) < K(b)(1) < K(b)(3) < K(b)(4) can be reasonably explained. In addition, the experimental singlet metal-to-ligand charge transfer ((1)MLCT) spectra of these complexes can be well simulated and discussed by the TDDFT calculations.  相似文献

The complexes trans-[Rh(X)(XNC)(PPh 3) 2] (X = Cl, 1; Br, 2; SC 6F 5, 3; C 2Ph, 4; XNC = xylyl isocyanide) combine reversibly with molecular oxygen to give [Rh(X)(O 2)(XNC)(PPh 3) 2] of which [Rh(SC 6F 5)(O 2)(XNC)(PPh 3) 2] ( 7) and [Rh(C 2Ph)(O 2)(XNC)(PPh 3) 2] ( 8) are sufficiently stable to be isolated in crystalline form. Complexes 2, 3, 4, and 7 have been structurally characterized. Kinetic data for the dissociation of O 2 from the dioxygen adducts of 1- 4 were obtained using (31)P NMR to monitor changes in the concentration of [Rh(X)(O 2)(XNC)(PPh 3) 2] (X = Cl, Br, SC 6F 5, C 2Ph) resulting from the bubbling of argon through the respective warmed solutions (solvent chlorobenzene). From data recorded at temperatures in the range 30-70 degrees C, activation parameters were obtained as follows: Delta H (++) (kJ mol (-1)): 31.7 +/- 1.6 (X = Cl), 52.1 +/- 4.3 (X = Br), 66.0 +/- 5.8 (X = SC 6F 5), 101.3 +/- 1.8 (X = C 2Ph); Delta S (++) (J K (-1) mol (-1)): -170.3 +/- 5.0 (X = Cl), -120 +/- 13.6 (X = Br), -89 +/- 18.2 (X = SC 6F 5), -6.4 +/- 5.4 (X = C 2Ph). The values of Delta H (++) and Delta S (++) are closely correlated (R (2) = 0.9997), consistent with a common dissociation pathway along which the rate-determining step occurs at a different position for each X. Relative magnitudes of Delta H (++) are interpreted in terms of differing polarizabilities of ligands X.  相似文献

In this paper, we present the absorption properties of a series of bis-triarylamino-[2.2]paracyclophane diradical dications. The localized pi-pi and the charge-transfer (CT) transitions of these dications are explained and analyzed by an exciton coupling model that also considers the photophysical properties of the "monomeric" triarylamine radical cations. Together with AM1-CISD-calculated transition moments, experimental transition moments and transition energies of the bis-triarylamine dications were used to calculate electronic couplings by a generalized Mulliken-Hush (GMH) approach. These couplings are a measure for interactions of the excited mixed-valence CT states. The modification of the diabatic states reveals similarities of the GMH three-level model and the exciton coupling model. Comparison of the two models shows that the transition moment between the excited mixed-valence states mu(ab) of the dimer equals the dipole moment difference Delta of the ground and the excited bridge state of the corresponding monomer.  相似文献

Copper(II) complexes of isatin-3,2'-quinolyl-hydrazones of the type [Cu(L)X] (where X=Cl(-), Br(-), NO(3)(-), CH(3)COO(-) and ClO(4)(-)] and their adducts Cu(L)X.2Y [where Y=pyridine or dioxane and X=Cl(-), Br(-), NO(3)(-) and ClO(4)(-)] have been synthesized under controlled experimental conditions and characterized by using the modern spectroscopic and physicochemical techniques viz. IR, electronic, EPR, elemental analysis, magnetic moment susceptibility measurements and molar conductance, etc. On the basis of spectral studies a four coordinated square planer geometry is assigned for Cu(L)X type complexes whereas the adducts (Cu(L)X.2Y were found to have a six coordinated octahedral geometry.  相似文献

The mixed-valence systems meso- and rac-[{M(bpy)2}2(mu-BL)]5+ {M = Ru, Os; BL = a series of polypyridyl bridging ligands such as 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)benzoquinoxaline (dpb)} are characterized by multiple intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) and interconfigurational (IC) bands in the mid-infrared and near-infrared (NIR) regions. Differences in the relative energies of the IC transitions for the fully oxidized (+6) states of the osmium systems demonstrate that stereochemical effects lead to fundamental changes in the energy levels of the metal-based dpi orbitals, which are split by spin-orbit coupling and ligand-field asymmetry. An increase in the separation between the IC bands as BL is varied reflects the increase in the degree of electronic coupling through the series of ruthenium and osmium complexes. The increase in the IVCT bandwidths for the former is therefore attributed to the increase in the separation of the three underlying components of the bands. Stark effect measurements reveal small dipole moment changes accompanying IVCT excitation in support of the localized-to-delocalized or delocalized classification for the dinuclear ruthenium and osmium systems.  相似文献

A computational study of the ground- and excited-state properties of the mixed-valence complex [(NH 3) 5Ru (III)NCRu (II)(CN) 5] (-) is presented. Employing DFT and TDDFT calculations for the complex in the gas phase and in aqueous solution, we investigate the vibrational and electronic structure of the complex in the electronic ground state as well as the character of the electronically excited states. The relevance of the various excited states for the intervalence metal-metal charge-transfer process in the complex is analyzed based on the change of charge density, spin density, and dipole moment upon photoexcitation as well as by a Mulliken-Hush analysis. Furthermore, those intramolecular modes, which are important for the charge-transfer process, are identified and characterized.  相似文献

The synthesis of dinuclear [Ru(II)([n]aneS(4))] (where n = 12, 14) complexes of the bridging ligand 3,6-bis(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine are reported. The X-ray structures of both of the new complexes are compared to a newly obtained structure for a dinuclear [Ru(II)([9]aneS(3))]-based analogue, whose synthesis has previously been reported. A comparison of the electrochemistry of the three complexes reveals that the first oxidation of the [Ru(II)([n]aneS(4))]-based systems is a ligand-based couple, indicating that the formation of the radical anion form of the bridging ligand is stabilized by metal center coordination. Spectroelectrochemistry studies on the mixed-valence form of the new complexes suggest that they are Robin and Day Class II systems. The electrochemical and electronic properties of these complexes is rationalized by a consideration of the pi-bonding properties of thiacrown ligands.  相似文献
