Realizable classes of tetrahedral extensions

Let k be a number field and O_k its ring of integers. Let Γ be the alternating group A₄. Let be a maximal O_k-order in k[Γ] containing O_k[Γ] and its class group. We denote by the set of realizable classes, that is the set of classes such that there exists a Galois extension N/k at most tamely ramified, with Galois group isomorphic to Γ, for which the class of is equal to c, where O_N is the ring of integers of N. In this article we determine and we prove that it is a subgroup of provided that k and the 3rd cyclotomic field of are linearly disjoint, and the class number of k is odd.     

Estimating the parametric component of nonlinear partial spline model

Consider a nonlinear partial spline model . This article studies the estimation problem of when g₀ is approximated by some graduating function. Some asymptotic results for are derived. In particular, it is shown that can be estimated with the usual parametric convergence rate without undersmoothing g₀.     

The ring of quasimodular forms for a cocompact group

We describe the additive structure of the graded ring of quasimodular forms over any discrete and cocompact group Γ⊂PSL(2,R). We show that this ring is never finitely generated. We calculate the exact number of new generators in each weight k. This number is constant for k sufficiently large and equals where I and are the ideals of modular forms and quasimodular forms, respectively, of positive weight. We show that is contained in some finitely generated ring of meromorphic quasimodular forms with i.e., the same order of growth as      

Toeplitz operators associated to commuting row contractions

Let H be a complex Hilbert space and let {Tn}_n?1 be a sequence of commuting bounded operators on H such that . Let denote the space of all operators X in B(H) for which and suppose that . We will show that there exists a triple {K,Γ,{Un}_n?1} where K is a Hilbert space, Γ:K→H is a bounded operator and {Un}_n?1⊂B(K) is a sequence of commuting normal operators with such that TnΓ=ΓUn for n?1, and for which the mapping Y?ΓYΓ^∗ is a complete isometry from the commutant of {Un}_n?1 onto the space . Moreover we show that the inverse of this mapping can be extended to a ^∗-homomorphism

     

On zero varieties of holomorphic functions in Hardy spaces

In contrast to the famous Henkin-Skoda theorem concerning the zero varieties of holomorphic functions in the Nevanlinna class on the open unit ball B_n in , n?2, it is proved in this article that for any nonnegative, increasing, convex function ?(t) defined on , there exists satisfying such that there is no f∈H^p(B_n), 0<p<∞, with . Here N_g(ζ,1) denotes the integrated zero counting function associated with the slice function g_ζ. This means that the zero sets of holomorphic functions belonging to the Hardy spaces H^p(B_n), 0<p<∞, unlike that of the holomorphic functions in the Nevanlinna class, cannot be characterized in the above manner.     

Quartic residues and binary quadratic forms

Let be a prime, m∈Z and . In this paper we obtain a general criterion for m to be a quartic residue in terms of appropriate binary quadratic forms. Let d>1 be a squarefree integer such that , where is the Legendre symbol, and let ε_d be the fundamental unit of the quadratic field . Since 1942 many mathematicians tried to characterize those primes p so that ε_d is a quadratic or quartic residue . In this paper we will completely solve these open problems by determining the value of , where p is an odd prime, and . As an application we also obtain a general criterion for , where {u_n(a,b)} is the Lucas sequence defined by and .     

Generalized sampling in shift-invariant spaces with multiple stable generators

The aim of this paper is to derive stable generalized sampling in a shift-invariant space with ? stable generators. This is done in the light of the theory of frames in the product Hilbert space (? times). The generalized samples are expressed as the frame coefficients of an appropriate function in with respect to some particular frame in . Since any multiply stable generated shift-invariant space is the image of by means of a bounded invertible operator, the generalized sampling is obtained from some dual frame expansions in . An example in the setting of the Hermite cubic splines is exhibited.
