The aim of this work is to discriminate thermoplastic polyester-polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), which cannot be easily identified by many methods. Both matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and pyrolysis gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) were applied to identify these polyesters owing to their analytical ability to determining polymers' chemical structure. The three thermoplastic polyesters can be easily distinguished by MALDI-TOF MS according to their different repeated units. Py-GC/MS was used to analyze their specific pyrolyzates. The three polyesters can be identified through their characteristic pyrolysis products as well.  相似文献

Typical terephthalate polyesters such as poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were characterized by pyrolysis-gas chromatography (Py-GC) in the presence of tetramethylammonium hydroxide in terms of the cross-linking structure formed during their material recycling. In the pyrograms of PBT and PET thermally treated at 270 °C for 1 h, which were prepared as model polymers containing cross-linking structures, an additional peak was commonly observed as well as the main reactive pyrolysis products for the original polyesters such as dimethyl terephthalate. Based on the observed spectra obtained by Py-GC/mass spectrometry and Py-GC/Fourier transform infrared spectrometry measurements, this peak was assigned to the product reflecting a biphenyl-type cross-linking structure. Furthermore, in the pyrograms of kneaded PBT and PET samples also at 270 °C for a total of 1 h, which were prepared to simulate material recycling, the same peak for the cross-linking structure was also observed, although its intensity was slightly lower than that in the samples thermally treated in air. This fact verified that the biphenyl-type cross-linking structure would be considerably formed during the recycling of PBT and PET, which might in turn contribute to the deteriorated properties of the recycled materials from waste polyesters. Moreover, difference in the formation of the cross-linking between PBT and PET is discussed on the basis of the observed results.  相似文献

Thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy characterizations were performed on three ternary blend systems that comprise poly(4‐vinyl phenol) (PVPh) and any two of the three homologous aryl polyesters [poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT), and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)]. Although PVPh is miscible with any one of the polyesters in forming a binary blend system, miscibility in ternary systems by introducing one more polymer of different structures to the blend system is not always expected. However, this study concludes that miscibility does exist in all these three ternary blends of all compositions investigated. Reasons and factors for such behavior were probed. Quantitative interactions in the ternary blend system were also estimated. The overall interaction energy density (B) by analysis of melting point depression for the PBT/PVPh/PET ternary blend system led to a negative value (B = −5.74 cal/cm3). Similarly, Tg‐composition analyses were performed on two other ternary blend systems, PET/PVPh/PTT and PTT/PVPh/PBT. Comparison of the qualitative results showed that the interaction energy densities in the other two ternary blend systems are similarly negative and comparable to the PBT/PVPh/PET ternary blend system. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results also support the qualitative findings among these three ternary blend systems. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Melting behavior of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) after isothermal crystallization from the melt state was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) techniques. The subsequent melting thermograms for PTT isothermally crystallized within the temperature range of 182-215 °C exhibited triple (for crystallization temperatures lower than ≈192 °C), double (for crystallization temperatures greater than ≈192 °C but lower than ≈210 °C), or single (for crystallization temperatures greater than ≈210 °C) endothermic melting phenomenon. These peaks were denoted peaks I, II, and III for low-, middle-, and high-temperature melting endotherms, respectively. For the triple melting phenomenon, it was postulated that the occurrence of peak I was a result of the melting of the primary crystallites, peak II was a result of the melting of recrystallized crystallites, and peak III was a result of the melting of the recrystallized crystallites of different stabilities. In addition, determination of the equilibrium melting temperature Tm0 for this PTT resin according to the linear and non-linear Hoffmann-Weeks extrapolation provided values of 243.6 and 277.6 °C, respectively.  相似文献

PTT/PET

The melting, crystallization, and self-packed ring patterns in the spherulites of miscible blends comprising poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) and poly(ether imide) (PEI) were revealed by optical, scanning electron microscopies (PLM and SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Morphology and melting behavior of the miscible PTT/PEI blends were compared with the neat PTT. Ringed spherulites appeared in the miscible PTT/PEI blends at all crystallization temperatures up to 220 °C, whereas at this high temperature no rings were seen in the neat PTT. A postulation was proposed, and interrelations between rings in spherulites and the multiple lamellae distributions were investigated. The specific interactions and the segregation of amorphous PEI were discussed for interpreting the morphological changes of 220 °C-melt-crystallized PTT/PEI samples. Interlamellar segregation of PEI might be associated with multiple lamellae in the spherulites of PTT/PEI blends; therefore, rings were more easily formed in the PTT/PEI blends at all crystallization temperatures. A postulated model of uneven lamellar growth, coupled with periodical spiraling, more properly describes the possible origin of ring bands from combined effects of both interactions and segregation between the amorphous PEI and PTT in blends.  相似文献

The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) modified by poly (ethlene glycol) (PEG) were determined by DSC. The dual linear regression method was used to evaluate the relationship between the reciprocal of t 1/2 ( the half life of crystallization) and the appropriate temperature variable. The parameters such as the activation energy (Ed) for transport, the equilibrium melting temperature (T_m~0),the nucleation parameter (ψ),themaximum crystallization temperature (T_(e, max)), and the kinetic crystallizability (G) for the copolyesters were obtained. The influence of the PEG content in PET chains on the parameters characterizing crystallization kinetics and crystallization thermodynamics was discussed.  相似文献

The blends of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) undergo transesterification reactions between PET and PBT during melt processing. In this research, PET/PBT transesterification has been investigated in the presence of nano-fillers, including pure SiO2 and silane-coupling-agent-modified SiO2. The results show that the incorporation of SiO2 nanoparticles inhibits PET/PBT transesterification, and the influence of pure SiO2 is higher than modified SiO2. The inhibition of SiO2 on transesterification is explained by the fact that the hydroxyl end groups of PET and PBT react with the surface hydroxyl groups of SiO2 before transesterification due to the high activity of surface hydroxyl groups of SiO2, and the reduction of hydroxyl end groups of PET and PBT leads to the inhibition of transesterification between PET and PBT. This has been demonstrated by the experimental data of TGA, FTIR, and XPS. And the reactivity of hydroxyl end groups of PBT is higher than that of PET.  相似文献

Binary blends of poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) containing PLLA as major component were prepared by melt mixing. The two polymers are immiscible, but display compatibility, probably due to the establishment of interactions between the functional groups of the two polyesters upon melt mixing. Electron microscopy analysis revealed that in the blends containing up to 20% of poly(butylene terephthalate), PBT particles are finely dispersed within the PLLA matrix, with a good adhesion between the phases. The PLLA/PBT 60/40 blend presents a co-continuous multi-level morphology, where PLLA domains, containing dispersed PBT units, are embedded in a PBT matrix. The varied morphology affects the mechanical properties of the material, as the 60/40 blend displays a largely enhanced resistance to elongation, compared to the blends with lower PBT content.  相似文献

The thermal behavior of three aromatic polyesters in a homologous series, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT), and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) was studied under hydrostatic pressure up to 200 MPa by using a high pressure differential thermal analysis apparatus. Confining fluid high pressure dilatometer was used to establish the volume–temperature curves (in both solid and liquid regions) from which volume change on melting of these polyesters at atmospheric pressure was determined. Single endothermic peak was seen for PET and PTT, whereas PBT showed double peaks above 50 MPa. Pressure coefficient of melting temperature at atmospheric pressure (dTm/dp(0)), was obtained from the quadratic fit. The dTm/dp(0) for PTT was newly determined to be 0.445 KMPa?1, whereas for PET and PBT were 0.503 and 0.455 KMPa?1, respectively, comparable to reported values. The dTm/dp(0) exhibited the odd‐even behavior corresponding to odd and even number of methylene groups in the repeat unit. Enthalpy and entropy of fusion had the most influence on this coefficient. Entropy related to conformational and volume change were evaluated and the former was found to have a significant impact on the value of dTm/dp(0). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The glass-transition temperature and non-isothermal crystallization of poly(trimethylene terephthalate)/poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PTT/PEN) blends were investigated by using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results suggested that the binary blends showed different crystallization and melting behaviors due to their different component of PTT and PEN. All of the samples exhibited a single glass-transition temperature, indicating that the component PTT and PEN were miscible in amorphous phase. The value of Tg predicted well by Gordon-Taylor equation decreased gradually with increasing of PTT content. The commonly used Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny, Ozawa theory and the method developed by Mo were used, respectively, to fit the primary stage of non-isothermal crystallization. The kinetic parameters suggested that the PTT content improved the crystallization of PEN in the binary blend. The crystallization growth dimension, crystallization rate and the degree of crystallinity of the blends were increased with the increasing content of PTT. The effective activation energy calculated by the advanced iso-conversional method developed by Vyazovkin also concluded that the value of Ea depended not only on the system but also on temperature, that is, the binary blend with more PTT component had higher crystallization ability and the crystallization ability is increased with increasing temperature. The kinetic parameters U* and Kg were also determined, respectively, by the Hoffman-Lauritzen theory.  相似文献

Blends of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) in the amorphous state were miscible in all of the blend compositions studied, as evidenced by a single, composition‐dependent glass‐transition temperature observed for each blend composition. The variation in the glass‐transition temperature with the blend composition was well predicted by the Gordon–Taylor equation, with the fitting parameter being 0.91. The cold‐crystallization (peak) temperature decreased with an increasing PTT content, whereas the melt‐crystallization (peak) temperature decreased with an increasing amount of the minor component. The subsequent melting behavior after both cold and melt crystallizations exhibited melting point depression behavior in which the observed melting temperatures decreased with an increasing amount of the minor component of the blends. During crystallization, the pure components crystallized simultaneously just to form their own crystals. The blend having 50 wt % of PTT showed the lowest apparent degree of crystallinity and the lowest tensile‐strength values. The steady shear viscosity values for the pure components and the blends decreased slightly with an increasing shear rate (within the shear rate range of 0.25–25 s?1); those of the blends were lower than those of the pure components. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Structural changes occurring during crystallization of quenched amorphous poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and subsequent cooling/heating cycles have been studied by real-time small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), using synchrotron radiation. Initial crystallization is found to occur by insertion of new lamellae between the existing ones, while rapid continuous melting/recrystallization happens when the cold-crystallized PET samples are heated above the previous highest annealing temperature. Such melting/recrystalization results in irreversible increases in the lamellar long period, the crystal thickness and the density difference between the crystalline and amorphous regions; in contrast, at temperatures below the prior highest crystallization temperature, the structural changes are dominated by reversible effects such as thermal expansion. However, throughout the entire temperature range up to the melting point around 250 °C, the crystal core thickness remains quite small, less than ca. 50 Å, and the linear crystallinity of lamellar stacks remains nearly constant around 0.3. Such a low crystallinity indicates the presence of thick order-disorder interfacial layers on the lamellar surface, whose thickness increases with temperature.Dedicated to Prof. E. W. Neat poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and PET/antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization. The study of the isothermal crystallization behaviors of neat PET and PET/ATO nanocomposites was carried out using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The crystallization kinetics under isothermal conditions could be described by the Avrami equation. For neat PET and PET/ATO nanocomposites, the Avrami exponent n both decreased with increasing crystallization temperature. In addition, for the same crystallization temperature, the value of n increased with increasing ATO content. These suggested that the crystallization types related to the values of n in the Avrami theory could not be suitable for the crystallization of PET and its nanocomposites. The change of the n values indicated that the addition of ATO resulted in the increase of the crystallizing growth points. That is a heterogeneous nucleating effect of ATO on crystallization of PET. In the DSC scan after isothermal crystallization process, multiple melting behavior was found. And the multiple endotherms could be attributed to melting of the recrystallized materials or the secondary lamellae produced during different crystallization processes. The equilibrium melting temperature of PET in the nanocomposites increased with increasing the ATO content. Surface free energy of PET chain folding for crystallization of PET/ATO nanocomposites was lower than that of neat PET, confirming the heterogeneous nucleation effect of ATO.  相似文献

In this paper, cetyl pyridium chloride (CPC) was employed to modify the montmorillonite. TGA analysis shows that the organic modified clay has higher thermal stability than hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride modified montmorillonite and is suitable to be used for preparing poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/clay nanocomposites at the high temperature. And then PBT/clay nanocomposites were prepared by direct melt intercalation. The results of XRD, TEM and HREM experiments show the formation of exfoliated-intercalated structure. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites does not evidently decrease, but the char residue at 600 °C remarkably increase compared with pure PBT. DSC results indicate that clay improves the melting temperature, the crystallization rate and crystallinity of the PBT molecules in the nanocomposites.  相似文献

Small-angle X-ray scattering, wide-angle X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry analysis were carried out to evaluate the evolution of the supermolecular structure of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) during isothermal crystallization and annealing process. PET was crystallized from the melt by isothermal treatments at 226 °C. Partially crystallized samples were prepared interrupting the crystallization by quenching, while prolonged treatments were performed to prepare annealed samples. The adopted crystallization procedures allowed to form crystals which developed during primary and secondary crystallization, and the annealing process. On the basis of X-ray data, the lamellar and amorphous phases were unambiguously attributed. The lamellar thickness and the crystallinity progressively enhance with increasing the time of thermal treatment; on the contrary, the long period decreases and this effect is mainly due to the contraction of the amorphous phase. The melting behaviour of the annealed samples indicates that the heating-induced crystal reorganization phenomena are inconsistent. The interdependency between the melting temperature and the crystal thickness allowed to extrapolate the equilibrium melting temperature.  相似文献

A series of copolyesters were prepared by the incorporation of p‐hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), hydroquinone (HQ), and terephthalic acid (TA) into poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). On the basis of viscosity measurements, high molar mass copolyesters were obtained in the syntheses, and 1H‐NMR analyses indicated the total insertion of comonomers. They exhibit nematic phase above melting temperature, as observed by polarized light microscope (PLM). Their crystallization and melting behaviors were also studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). It was found that these copolyesters are more crystalline than copolyesters prepared from PET and HBA. Introduction of HQ/TA disrupts longer rigid‐rod sequences formed by HBA, and thus enhances molecular motion and increases crystallization rate and crystallinity. Isothermal crystallization at solid phase polymerization conditions (up to 24 h at 200°C) resulted in increased copolymer randomness (by NMR) and higher melting point, the latter attributed to structural annealing. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) was blended with nanoscale fully vulcanized acrylic rubber (FVAR) powders in a twin extruder, and the FVAR powders were dispersed well in PBT from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) investigation. The isothermal crystallization kinetics of PBT/FVAR blends were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and simulated by Avrami model. Equilibrium melting temperature was estimated by the nonlinear Hoffman-Weeks relation. The active energy (ΔE) and nucleation parameters (Kg) increased with the addition of FVAR, suggesting that FVAR particles hindered the crystallization; however more content FVAR had a lower ΔE and Kg because FVAR powders acted as heterogeneous nuclei in the nucleation of crystallization and facilitated the crystallization of PBT. The crystallization ability followed the order: PBT > PBT/FVAR6 > PBT/FVAR3 > PBT/FVAR1 when undercooling was considered.  相似文献
