Localized modes in one-dimensional (1D) media with uniaxial scatterers that are assumed to be order in spatial location but disorder in spatial orientation of their optical axis are investigated. Based on the holistic effect model in random laser, I.e., the random laser is due to the interaction of the complex localized modes in active random media with local aperiodic quasi-structure with appropriate pump light, a physical model on this type of random media is found. Its disorder degree is defined by D = no/ne. Then, the typical transmission spectrum through the random media and the light field intensity distribution corresponding to the defect modes in photonic band-gap are calculated numerically by means of the transfer matrix method, and the condition that the localized mode appears is discussed. Results show that the medium disorder plays an important role in determining the lightwave state. The localized state appears when the medium disorder is strong enough, and a new mechanism creating random laser phenomenon is brought forward.  相似文献

The spontaneous emission decay dynamics of nanocrystal quantum dots embedded into biotemplated titania photonic crystals with a diamond-based lattice are investigated. Modification of the decay rate of quantum dot emission over wide frequency bandwidths in the visible by the photonic crystals is observed. Frequency-dependent analysis reveals both inhibition and enhancement of emission with a radiative lifetime variation by more than a factor of 10.  相似文献

The effect of Doppler broadening on dispersive and absorptive properties is theoretically investigated in the hot four-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) atomic systems with two different types of two-photon interference. It is found that the dispersive behavior for the probe in the ladder-type atomic system with two-photon constructive interference will be changed from anomalous in cold atoms to normal in hot atoms, and the three-peak absorptive profile is shifted to a broadened spectrum with a shallow dip at the line center; as a comparison, there is always normal dispersion at the line center for the invert-Y-type atomic system with two-photon destructive interference, but the EIT window in the absorptive profile will be narrowed to subnatural linewidth (0.01Γ) at room temperature. The physics of those two different behaviors are discussed and compared in the dressed-state theory.  相似文献

The expressions for the time-averaged Pointing’s vector in absorptive left-handed medium based on the classical vector Maxwell’s equations for a continuum have been obtained. It was found that in the case of inclined incidence with mixed polarization the additional plane component of Poynting’s vector perpendicular to incidence plane has appeared for negative effective refraction. This addition of the in-plane component leads to non-coincidence of refraction and incidence plane.  相似文献

The emission of Si+ from a clean silicon surface has been studied for bombardment with various atomic and molecular noble gas ions at energies between 1.5 and 30 keV. It was found that the degree of ionization of Si+ depends strongly (l?inearly) on the projectile energy but only weakly on the projectile mass. These results suggest that the degree of ionization is heavily affected by the (dynamic) perturbation of the bulk properties of the bombarded area which increases with increasing nuclear energy deposition.  相似文献

Electron emission properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) assembled on a tungsten tip were investigated using field emission microscopy (FEM). The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrograph confirmed the existence of an SWCNT bundle on the W tip. Under appropriate experimental conditions,a series of FEM patterns with atomic resolution were obtained. These patterns arose possibly from the field emission of the open end of an individual (16,0) SWCNT protruding from the SWCNT bundle. The magnification factor and the resolution under our experimental conditions were calculated theoretically. If the value of the compression factor β was set at β= 1.76, the calculated value of the magnification factor was in agreement with the measured value. The resolving powerof FEM was determined by the resolution equation given by Gomer. The resolutionof 0.277 nm could be achieved under the typical electric field of 5.0×107 V/cm, which was close to the interatomic separation 0.246 nm between carbon atoms along the zigzag edge at the open end for the (16, 0) SWCNT. Consequently, our experimental results were further supported by our theoretical calculation.  相似文献

In studying the multiple scattering of acoustic waves by a half-space of distributed discrete scatterers, the quasicrystalline approximation(QCA) approach together with the hole correction (HC) or the pair distribution functions (PDF) have been used extensively, in which a system of simultaneous equations must be solved to determine the effective propagation constant and the expansion coefficients of the coherent exciting field. In this paper, we analyse the same problem under Foldy's approximation (EFA) by using the so-called modified T-matrix approach (MTMA) which was first proposed by Twersky. Two equations in a considerably simple and clear form are obtained for determining the effective propagation constant and the amplitude of the coherent transmitted field, as the scatterers are identical spheres. We present the fabrication details and performance characteristics of InGaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) consisting of arrays of interconnected micro-pixels where each micro-pixel is nano-textured via nano-imprinting. We have taken the further step of embodying the pixels in a rhomboidal geometry. It is found that the power output of these nano-textured micro-LEDs with rhomboidal geometries is 57% higher than that of conventional square-shaped broad-area reference LEDs. The series resistance of the textured LEDs is reduced, owing to the multi-finger electrodes introduced. Furthermore, these LEDs can sustain higher operation current of up to 500 mA without encapsulation, suggesting improved thermal dissipation capability. Finally, the combined effects of surface texturing, micro-LED configuration, and geometric shaping on the light extraction are analyzed. It is found that the power enhancement by surface texturing, micro-pixellating and the rhomboidal geometry are 32%, 16%, and 9%, respectively, implying that surface texturing is the most effective contribution to increasing the light extraction efficiency in our design. The angular dependent far-field beam profile is also remarkably changed, compared with the standard Lambertian emission pattern of the conventional square-shaped LEDs. Substantial increase in the EL intensity is evident from both the top surface and the sidewall.  相似文献

A general theory is developed to describe graphene with an arbitrary number of isolated impurities. The theory provides a basis for an efficient numerical analysis of the charge transport and is applied to calculate the Dirac-point conductivity σ of graphene with resonant scatterers. In the case of smooth resonant impurities the symmetry class is identified as DIII and σ grows logarithmically with increasing impurity concentration. For vacancies (or strong on-site potential impurities, class BDI) σ saturates at a constant value that depends on the vacancy distribution among two sublattices.  相似文献

The theory of distortion correction by phase conjugation, developed since the discovery of this phenomenon many years ago, applies to situations when the field that is conjugated is monochromatic and the medium with which it interacts is deterministic. In this Letter a generalization of the theory is presented that applies to phase conjugation of partially coherent waves interacting with either deterministic or random weakly scattering nonabsorbing media.  相似文献
