In this investigation, we experimentally investigate an extended reach (ER) time-division-multiplexed passive optical network (TDM-PON) using four wavelength-multiplexed channels to achieve 16 Gb/s downlink and 10 Gb/s uplink traffic. Each downlink signal uses the highly spectral efficient 4 Gb/s OFDM-QAM, and each uplink signal is generated by signal remodulating the downlink signal via a reflective semiconductor amplifier (RSOA) at 2.5 Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ). In addition, the performance of the proposed ER TDM-PON has also been analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

An optical power equalization of upstream traffic in time-division-multiplexed passive optical network (TDM-PON) based on injection-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been experimentally investigated. The upstream transmitters with stable spectrum are achieved by using an external injection light source in the optical line terminal (OLT). The different upstream powers can be equalized by injection locking a Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) biased below threshold current in OLT. The dynamic upstream power range from − 8.5 to − 19.5 db m is reduced to a 1.6 dB maximal power variation, when the uplink signal is directly modulated at 1.25 Gb/s.  相似文献

Simultaneous downlink performance improvement and uplink wavelength reuse in a full-duplex millimeter-wave (MMW) radio-over-fiber (RoF) system by using a simple and cost-effective all-fiber optical interleaver are proposed and demonstrated. The MMW RoF downlink performance improvement is based on suppressing optical carrier-to-sideband ratio (OCSR), with which the mechanism is confirmed by theoretic analysis and derived experimental results. Measured results show that, by suppressing OCSR using a fabricated all-fiber optical interleaver, the downlink optical receiver sensitivity is improved about 2.1 dB. The downlink data rate is 1.25 Gbit/s and the carrier frequency is 58.1 GHz; the link consists of 6 km optical single-mode fiber and 1 m wireless connection. On the other hand, with the interleaver suppressing downlink OCSR, simultaneously an optical carrier is recovered from the RoF downlink and is reused for RoF uplink transmission. The uplink is operated at 62.9 GHz and the data rate is the same 1.25 Gbit/s. With the recovered optical carrier, a laser-free remote access point is achieved. The principle, structure, and fabrication of an all-fiber optical interleaver are also presented in this paper.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a 10 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) where subcarriers are employed to transmit the downstream data and optical carriers of the downlink subcarrier modulated (SCM) lights are reused to injection lock Fabry-Perot laser diodes (FP-LDs) for uplink transmission. Experiment results show that a very good BER performance can be achieved for both uplink and downlink at 10 Gb/s. The impact of optical carrier to subcarrier ratio and wavelength mismatching is also investigated.  相似文献

A novel full-duplex radio-over-fiber system is proposed and demonstrated, in which an external modulator and an optical interleaver are used to generate dual octupling-frequency optical millimeter waves for two base stations and wavelength reuse for uplink connection. This scheme is simplified and low-cost because no additional laser is utilized for uplink connection at two base stations and one laser at central office works for two base stations simultaneously. The frequency of local oscillator signal is reduced largely due to frequency octupling. The theorem about how to generate optical millimeter waves is analyzed. The simulation results show that the bidirectional 5 Gb/s system has a perfect performance because the power penalty for the downlink and uplink signals of two base stations are less than 0.6 dB after successful transmission over 60 km standard single mode fiber.  相似文献

An optical beat interference (OBI)-resistant 60-km wavelength division multiplexed/subcarrier multiplexing-passive optical network (WDM/SCM-PON) is proposed. This scheme disperses OBI-noises using broadband amplified spontaneous emission (ASE)-light as an optical source for optical network unit. An uplink transmission is executed using a cross gain modulated light by ASE source with data in a local exchange. Error free transmissions of up and downlink are experimentally accomplished after 60-km optical transmission. The impact of Rayleigh backscattering noise on 100-Mb/s uplink signal is also investigated.  相似文献

In order to improve RF frequency to achieve higher bandwidth and larger capacity, we propose a novel scheme to generate optical single sideband (SSB) millimeter-wave, in which frequency doubling of local radio frequency (RF) is obtained by using one integrated Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM), and we theoretically investigate the generating principle of SSB. The optical SSB modulation scheme is employed to generate 60 GHz optical mm-wave and the 2.5 Gb/s baseband signal is simultaneously up-converted at the central station (CS) for downlink transmission, and the optical carrier is reused for uplink connection at the base station (BS). The full-duplex 2.5 Gb/s data are successfully transmitted over 40 km standard single-mode fiber (SMF-28) for both uplink connection and downlink connection with less than 2-dB power penalty. Results show the novel 60 GHz RoF system with optical SSB mm-wave signal generation using optical frequency doubling is feasible and we can obtain simple cost-efficient configuration and good performance over long-distance transmission.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a harmonic radio frequency (RF) carrier generation and broadband data upconversion technique with single mode and single sideband (− SSB) modulation for radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems using stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The optical carrier-to-sideband ratio (CSR) of the single mode and SSB modulated signal can be easily adjusted to achieve the best received sensitivity performance of the RoF system. By using this method, we successfully demonstrate generation of third-harmonic RF carrier at 32.625 GHz with fLO of 10.875 GHz and upconversion of 1.25-Gb/s data to the RF carrier band. In addition, the data bandwidth is independent of the Brillouin gain profile. Finally, the transmission performance of the RoF downlink system is examined.  相似文献

Here we proposed a novel architecture of wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network (WDM-PON) in which the downlink unicast data, broadcast data and uplink unicast data transmission is possible with the symmetric data rate of 10 Gbps. At remote node (RN) cyclic wavelength routing property of array waveguide grating (AWG) and power splitting capacity of power splitter is used in the architecture so that broadcast channel can be overlaid on downlink unicast channels. At ONU carriers sent from central office (CO) is reused for upstream data transmission with the help of integration of a reflective semiconductor amplifier (RSOA) and an electro-absorption modulator (EAM) so there is no need of extra laser sources at ONUs which makes them colorless. EAM can be operated at very high speed; a modulation bandwidth of tens of GHz can be achieved. Broadcast channel causes a limited interference with downlink and uplink unicast channels so it does not affect the system performance. Since each channel has different wavelength so NRZ data is used which eliminates expensive DPSK receivers and detection becomes very easy. Simulation is performed with all channels having data rate of 10 Gbps having acceptable performance.  相似文献

We propose a concept of wavelength synchronization to ensure the stability of ultra-dense channels in an ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network(UDWDM-PON)transmitter.A mode-locked laser is used to provide wavelength references for users.By injection locking the semiconductor laser, the separation of the wavelength reference is realized in an optical line terminal. The downlink and uplink wavelength references are interlaced and distributed to facilitate the synchronization of uplink carriers. In the optical network unit, the uplink optical carriers are filtered by injection locking semiconductor lasers, which achieve wavelength synchronization for the uplink users. In this Letter,an adaptive wavelength synchronization transmitter for UDWDM-PON is realized with a channel spacing of 5 GHz.  相似文献

A novel scheme of a remote access unit which is based on an electroabsorption modulator cascaded by a gain-saturated reflective semiconductor optical amplifier is proposed to improve a transmission performance of uplink signal. The cascaded gain-saturated reflective semiconductor optical amplifier plays a role in enhancing linearity of the electroabsorption modulator as well as suppressing dispersion-induced carrier suppression in the uplink transmission using its nonlinear gain property. In the proposed scheme, carrier-to-interference ratio of transmitted 10-GHz band uplink signal was improved by 10.7 dB and the dispersion-induced carrier suppression of 5.65-GHz RF carrier was greatly mitigated by 33.4 dB through the 75.6-km optical link.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a full-duplex radio-over-fiber system incorporating both optical millimeter-wave (mm-wave) generation and wavelength reuse for uplink connection. The optical double sidebands (DSB) signal is generated by using only one inexpensive broadband direct modulation laser (DML), to which a mixing RF signal is applied. An optical interleaver is then used to separate the first-order optical sidebands from the optical carrier of optical DSB signal. The separated first-order optical sidebands are beat to generate mm-wave signal that has double the frequency of the RF drive signal, while the separated optical carrier is reused as light source to remodulate uplink signal. Both detailed theoretical analysis and experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system are presented. Experiment result shows that the bidirectional 2.5 Gb/s data can be successfully transmitted over 40 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with less than 2 dB power penalty.  相似文献

This paper has investigated the transmission performance of the single sideband (SSB) optical millimeter (mm)-wave with signal carried by the sideband in BPSK format in duplex radio-over-fiber (RoF) system theoretically and numerically. The SSB optical mm-wave signal is generated by a LiNbO3 Mach–Zehnder modulator and there exists an optimal modulation index to generate the SSB optical mm-wave with a maximal RF photocurrent. The SSB optical mm-wave is much suitable for the duplex ROF link with the uplink lightwave recovered from the downlink because the optical carrier carries no signal. In such a duplex RoF link, although there are the spurs on the optical carrier, they have little influence on the downlink and the uplink signal even if the modulation index is large.  相似文献

In this paper we demonstrate the feasibility to deploy a wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) of a 30 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF-28) carrying 160 Gbps data in downstream and 40 Gbps through the uplink. The developed method is based on the comparison between two WDM-PON systems of 4 channels with the same characteristics, using two different formats of modulation in OLTs. The first system uses the NRZ-ASK in the downlink direction, while the second uses the NRZ-DQPSK.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel bi-directional hybrid fiber amplifier using a single-wavelength pump laser diode (LD) at 1495 nm. The hybrid amplifier is theoretically applied in a 50 km bi-directional local area network (LAN) with 26 ch × 10 Gb/s for bi-directional transmission. Thirteen C-band channels serve as downlink signals while the other 13 L-band channels are employed as uplink signals. Without loss of generality, four channels (two from each band) are experimentally analyzed. Erbium doped fiber (EDF) provides amplification for the C-band channels and Raman amplification amplifies the L-band channels. The pump efficiency is improved by employing a double-pass scheme for both the Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and Raman fiber amplifier (RFA). The chromatic dispersion incurred by all the channels is precisely compensated for by inserting a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) array in appropriate locations along the dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) segments. Moreover, gain equalization of all the channels is achieved by adjusting the FBG reflectivity. Both the simulation results and experimental measurements confirm the proposed device feasibility and potential application in a bi-directional LAN.  相似文献

A full-duplex radio-over-fiber (RoF) link with a novel scheme to generate 60 GHz mm-waves from a 5 GHz RF signal source is investigated. In the RoF downlink, the required frequency of the RF oscillator is reduced greatly. Since the optical carrier is not modulated by downstream data, part of it is reused to carry upstream data and the upstream data is transmitted to the central station using optical single-sideband modulation. In this way, a single wavelength is used for both downstream and upstream transmissions. Based on this scheme, a full-duplex RoF link is built and its transmission performance is analyzed. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation show that the downstream signal cannot only eliminate code form distortion caused by time shift of the code edges, but also reduce the influence of the fading effect as the 60 GHz DSB optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, and the upstream signal is immune to both fading effect and time shift of the code edges.  相似文献

In this paper, the performance of bi-directional passive optical network (BPON) has been evaluated and compared at different bit rates in the scenario of triple play service. The triple-play service is realized as a combination of data, voice and video signals. This architecture is investigated for symmetrical data traffic for uplink and downlink transmission and its performance is also evaluated in terms of Q-factor and eye height at different transmission distance. The Q-factor results show the acceptable performance at 10 Gbps data rate for downstream and upstream transmission, as it accommodates 128 optical network units (ONUs). Further the proposed system's performance is compared with the current state-of-the-art PON architectures.  相似文献

In this paper we experimentally demonstrate an ultra-broadband indoor full-duplex WDM optical wireless communication system with multimode fiber. The multimode fiber is used because it is employed in most of the already installed in-building fiber distribution networks. Simultaneous error-free (BER<10(-9)) transmission of 4×12.5 Gbps downlink and 800 Mbps uplink has been successfully demonstrated. The experimental results show that, although the use of multimode fiber will induce ~2.4 cm reduction in the maximum error-free beam footprint in the downlink, the bit rate of the uplink can be much higher compared to the system with single-mode fiber.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel technique is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to reduce the effect of frequency fading (FF) and imperfect frequency response in direct-detection (DD) optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-radio-over-fiber (OFD-MROF) systems. To overcome FF effect in the optical fiber and imperfect frequency response in the optical and electrical devices at the high frequency, we pre-emphasize the power of the millimeter wave (mm-wave) OFDM sub-carriers appropriately in the center station. Experimental result of the proposed system shows the received sensitivity has been improved about 2 dB at the BER of 1 × 10− 4 after 50 km SSMF transmission for 2.5 Gb/s OFDM signal carried on 60 GHz optical mm-wave compared to the original system without pre-emphasis technique.  相似文献

The quality and pulse compression of the 60 GHz millimeter wave signals generated by 750 μm long InAlGaAs Multi Quantum Well (MQW) passively mode locked laser under free running and optical self-injection locked conditions are experimentally characterized in terms of longitudinal modes under certain bias currents that range from 24 mA to 90 mA. Initially, the MQW laser is characterized in free running condition with no external injection. The measurements reflect that the free spectral range of laser under test is around 61 GHz and exhibit more than 22 lasing modes. The laser is then integrated into low phase noise self-injection locking oscillator by feeding a part of output RF signal back into the laser cavity to enhance passive mode locking. By doing so the microwave line width of our laser is reduced from 900 kHz to 24 kHz with significant increase in output of resultant beat tones which exhibits strong passive mode locking. This is the first time that the free running microwave line width of MQW laser is reduced up to this level. It is evident from our experimental investigation that as we increase the power and phase correlation between different longitudinal modes inside laser cavity through optical self-injection, the strength of the passively mode locked mechanism is significantly increased and the phase noise of radio frequency signal is drastically reduced.  相似文献
