非线性一维光子晶体波导光双稳   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
利用非线性折射率系数较大且非线性时间响应较快的CdSxSe1-x玻璃为材料,设计并制备了非线性一维光子晶体波导光双稳器件,该器件的折射率空间分布呈正弦形式。实验测得双稳开关的阈值功率密度为1.60×105W/cm2,开关时间为63ps。采用时域有限差分方法讨论了光子晶体带隙随入射光强变化而移动的情况,随着入射光功率密度的增加,光子晶体的带隙中心向短波方向移动。同时计算了该器件的双稳特性,理论计算得到双稳开关的阈值功率密度为1.40×105W/cm2,开关时间约为50ps。获得了理论与实验基本一致的结果。  相似文献

研究了三种掺Yb钒酸盐晶体Yb:LuVO4,Yb:YVO4和Yb:GdVO4的激光振荡中所呈现的光学双稳态效应.以晶体所吸收的抽运功率表征的双稳区宽度ΔPabs可超过1W,在双稳区高功率一侧的边界,即激光振荡的上阈值点,出现激光输出功率的不连续变化或跃变,同时发生亚毫秒时间尺度上的大幅度强度涨落.谐振腔的输出耦合透过率、晶体长度、晶体中的热效应等对双稳态效应均具有重要影响.  相似文献

Nonlinear absorption of CO2 laser pulses at the multi-MW level has been studied in n-type germanium at room temperature. This nonlinear absorption limits the level of CO2 laser intensity that can be transmitted through an optical grade germanium crystal. The observed nonlinearity may be interpreted in terms of nonequilibrium electron-hole pairs generated by hot electrons created by the intense laser field. The number of nonequilibrium carriers generated is measured by photoconductivity experiments, and the results are correlated to the absorption measurements.  相似文献

It is shown that photorefractive wave-mixing gives saturable gain, saturable absorption and Kerr-like nonlinear phase retardation. An analogy between photorefractive two-beam coupling and two-level atom system is then drawn. We investigate optical bistability in a ring cavity, utilizing these phenomena, and compare our results with classical absorptive and dispersive optical bistability.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the possibility for realizing an optical memory using dynamic refreshment. Via phase-correct back-coupling by means of nonlinear optical phase-conjugation, the information stored in a photorefractive crystal is incessantly read out, transmitted into an auxiliary memory and from this back into the crystal again and in this way refreshed. An opto-electronic bistable device using a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell is described. The optical bistability characteristics of this device are used in a new liquid crystal light valve with bistability in cellular array structure. Experimental studies demonstrate the applications of such opto-electronic bistable devices in real-time optical information processing such as intensity limiting for contrast improvement and noise elimination, edge enhancement for pattern recognition, linear and nonlinear optical filtering (in spatial and spectral domains).  相似文献

We investigate experimentally the nonlinear transmission of a photonic crystal with a nematic liquid-crystal defect upon reorientation of the director in a field of cw laser radiation propagating at a certain angle to the sample. At different detunings, we observed the regimes of bistability, differential gain, and optical limiting. The resonance transmission peaks were detuned from the laser radiation wavelength by changing the angle of light incidence onto the sample. The value of nematic nonlinear constant n 2 determined from the experimental data is in good agreement with the theoretical estimate.  相似文献

Experimental observations of optical bistability in Coumarin-450 dye molecule entrapped in polymeric (PMMA) host inside Fabry–Perot cavity have been reported. Efforts have been made to demonstrate the nonlinear behavior of optical materials in solid form using 532 nm of Nd: YAG laser. The nonlinearity in terms of optical bistability and excited state absorption (ESA) has been discussed. The nonlinearity in Coumarin-450 dye molecule originated from unique intensity dependence of the complex index of refraction. It has been observed that nonlinear refraction dominates over nonlinear absorption in giving rise to the optical bistability. Nonlinear refractive index in both polymeric and liquid samples has been calculated.  相似文献

A dynamic self-adaptive Bragg grating formed in a photorefractive crystal is shown to be a convenient way to attain single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) operation and narrowband tuning both in a pulsed, injection-seeded optical parametric oscillator (OPO) and in a continuous-wave (cw) extended-cavity diode laser. The pulsed OPO cavity comprises a Rh:BaTiO3 photorefractive (PR) crystal, a periodically poled KTiOPO4 nonlinear-optical crystal, and a dielectrically-coated end mirror. A continuous-wave seed beam at 820–850 nm from a tunable SLM diode laser traverses firstly the Rh:BaTiO3 crystal and then is retro-reflected by the end mirror; this creates a wavelength-selective Bragg grating reflector in the PR crystal, thereby completing the OPO cavity. The cavity stays automatically resonant with the seed radiation, with no need to actively control its length or to make any other mechanical adjustment. One form of injection seeder comprises a novel extended-cavity diode laser (ECDL) design incorporating a self-pumped photorefractive phase-conjugate reflector and a compact, high-finesse tunable intracavity ring filter. This combination facilitates robust tunable single-frequency operation with narrow optical bandwidth. The performance characteristics of the OPO and the ECDL are evaluated by recording high-resolution atomic and molecular spectra. Notably, fluorescence-detected sub-Doppler two-photon excitation at 822 nm, of the 8S 6S transition in atomic Cs, provides a crucial linewidth test.  相似文献

A rigorous solution is given in the plane-wave approximation for the boundary problem of light reflection from the interface between an isotropic medium and a photorefractive crystal with drift-diffusion nonlinearity. The possibility of realizing hysteresis reflection or optical bistability in the system under certain conditions is shown. Analytical expressions are obtained that describe the hysteresis behavior of reflectivity as a function of the angle of incidence or the strength of a constant external electric field applied to the crystal. The results of the study are of interest for the development of devices controlling laser radiation.  相似文献

理论研究了648nm激光抽运掺Tm晶体的可见与红外发光转换和发光双稳特性.根据系统的耦合速率方程理论,推导了发光转换阈值的解析表达式,数值研究了Tm3+能级布居数,辐射光谱以及发光强度等随抽运光强的变化.数值结果表明,648nm激光抽运下可以实现452/469nm蓝光与1716 nm红外光谱的发光转换.在光子雪崩阈值附近,可以观察到掺Tm晶体的辐射光谱双稳,荧光色度双稳和发光强度双稳等现象.利用掺Tm晶体的可见与红外发光转换与双稳特性,可以实现抽运功率控制的全固态发光转换器和双稳波长 关键词: 光学双稳 多色开关 掺Tm晶体 光子雪崩  相似文献

Comparative studies are made of the photorefractive scattering of light in nonlinear single crystals of lithium niobate with congruent compositions (LiNbO3) doped with "photorefractive" Cu [0.015 mass %] and "nonphotorefractive" Zn [0.5 mass %] cations. For the first time it is found that single crystals doped with "photorefractive" and "nonphotorefractive" cations have different indicatrices for photorefractive light scattering. The aperture angle for photorefractive scattering reaches its steady state value more rapidly with high laser powers than with low. However, at high powers laser induced heating of the crystal is greater, and this leads to a narrowing of the scattering indicatrix. It is also found that photorefractive scattering in these single crystals depends on the region of the boule from which a sample has been cut. This indicates that there is a nonuniform distribution over the boule of the imperfections with localized electrons which determine the magnitude of the photorefractive effect.  相似文献

The effect of a magnetic field on the average photorefractive sensitivity of an undoped LiNbO3 crystal is studied by phase-mismatched second-harmonic generation. The experimental data obtained show the photorefractive sensitivity to reverse sign as the external magnetic field exceeds B 1=?0.38±0.04 T. The magnetic field is oriented perpendicular to the crystal optical axis and to the plane of laser radiation polarization. The variation of the photorefractive sensitivity is associated with paramagnetic iron centers, whose photoionization probability depends on the direction of their magnetic moment relative to the optical axis.  相似文献

In this study, optical bistability accompanied by spatial hysteresis was demonstrated in an Nd:GdVO4 laser with an intracavity twisted-nematic liquid crystal. The low branch of power hysteresis mainly has the spatial distribution of the fundamental mode as the pump power increases, whereas a four-mode and varying transverse pattern exist in the high branch of power hysteresis as the pump power decreases. The result revealed that the power and spatial hysteresis is controlled by the director axis reorientation and the order parameter modification in twisted-nematic liquid crystals, which is determined by the non-uniform transverse distribution of the intracavity laser intensity.  相似文献

本文系统地研究了由玻璃与液晶构成的非线性光学界面。用一台调Q的红宝石激光器研究了由玻璃与处于各向同性液相的液晶所构成的非线性界面。在不同入射角时非线性界面由内部全反射跃变到部分透射的阈值光强与Kaplen的平面波理论计算结果相一致。在T-Tc=2.5℃条件下测量了时间分辨的非线性界面的反射率。观察到了反射率的滞后迴线。非线性界面的这种反射率的滞后迴线可以归之于液晶分子退取向的弛豫过程。用Ar+激光器研究了玻璃与向列相液晶所构成的非线性光学界面,观察到了由相变而产 关键词:  相似文献

A new optical bistability mechanism for impure cubic crystals in a cavity, the dichroic bistability (DB), is suggested and illustrated by a concrete example. DB is due to the self-induced dichroism that accompanies the nonlinear resonant impurity absorption. The bistability is manifested both in the intensity and in the polarization direction of the radiation passing the ring cavity that contains the crystal.  相似文献

We demonstrate strong optical bistability in a 2 microm continuous-wave Tm,Ho:YLF laser pumped by a 792 nm laser diode near room temperature. The bistable region is as much as 100 mW wide at 283 K and can be controlled by the temperature of the laser crystal. The influence of crystal temperature on the characteristics of optical bistability is obtained. The influence of the pump-to-mode ratio on the bistable characteristics of the laser is also discussed. To our knowledge this is the first report of optical bistability effects in Tm,Ho:YLF lasers.  相似文献

Mg, Fe double-doped LiTaO3 and LiNbO3 crystals have been grown by Czochralski method. The optical properties were measured by two-beam coupling experiments and transmitted facula distortion method. The results showed that the photorefractive response speed of Mg:Fe:LiTaO3 was about three times faster than that of Fe:LiTaO3, whereas the photo-damage resistance was two orders of magnitude higher than that of Fe:LiTaO3. In this paper, site occupation mechanism of impurities was also discussed to explain the high photo-damage resistance and fast response speed in Mg:Fe:LiTaO3 crystal.  相似文献
