We propose a concept of a low-symmetry three-dimensional metamaterial exhibiting a double-continuum Fano (DCF) optical resonance. Such metamaterial is described as a birefringent medium supporting a discrete dark electromagnetic state weakly coupled to the continua of two nondegenerate bright bands of orthogonal polarizations. It is demonstrated that light propagation through such DCF metamaterial can be slowed down over a broad frequency range when the medium parameters (e.g., frequency of the dark mode) are adiabatically changed along the optical path. Using a specific metamaterial implementation, we demonstrate that the DCF approach to slow light is superior to that of the electromagnetically induced transparency because it enables spectrally uniform group velocity and transmission coefficient.  相似文献

The equivalent medium theory of metamaterials provides a way to obtain their effective constitutive parameters. However, because of its non-reciprocity, the complexity of the electromagnetic coupling, and a metallic bottom layer, it has been challenging to retrieve them from a metamaterial absorber. In this paper, we propose a method without any approximation to obtain them, in which the non-reciprocity and the strong electromagnetic coupling are included. Compared with the three methods such as symmetric metamaterial method, asymmetric metamaterial method and metasurface method, our method can reveal the metamaterial absorber's electrical and magnetic resonance and show its electromagnetic coupling coefficients. To deal with a metamaterial absorber with a metallic bottom layer, four corners of the metallic bottom layer in the unit cell are removed, making it possible to retrieve the electromagnetic parameters. Surprisingly, these results show that the metamaterial absorber with a metallic bottom layer in our example operates in a negative refraction state at the half absorption frequencies, which helps further understand the absorbing mechanism of these metamaterial absorbers.  相似文献

We analyzed the realization conditions and the parameters of acoustic media suitable for realization of the negative refraction of sound waves due to multiple resonance scattering by spherical inclusions. The frequency ranges of resonant transparency windows are calculated in which the effective compressibilities and densities assume negative values and the relative level of the radiative loss is rather low.  相似文献

We demonstrated a novel metamaterial with dual-band electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)via simulation,experiment and numerical analysis,with resonance frequencies of the trans-parency peaks of 7.60 and 10.27 GHz.The E-εmetamaterial unit cells were composed of E-shaped and e-shaped patterns.By analyzing the surface current distribution and the magnetic field,we qualitatively verified the toroidal dipole response in the E-εmetamaterial at 10.27 GHz.Meanwhile,by calculating the multipole's radiated power,we found that the two transparency peaks were due to the excitation of the electric and toroidal dipole responses.By changing the incident angle from 0°to 60°,we observed changes in transmission spectra,and the quality factors(Q-factors)of the two transparency peaks increased.In addition,the proposed E-εmetamaterial can be designed to act as a refractive index sensor or other electronic equipment for the control of electromagnetic waves.  相似文献

目前,很少有文章就如何实现宽角度吸波材料进行详细的理论分析和设计指导,设计宽角度吸波材料仍然是一件很困难的事情.本文基于等效介质理论对带有反射地板的单层介质超材料吸波体进行较为详细的理论分析.从基础电磁理论出发,推导TE波(横电波,电场方向与入射面垂直的平面电磁波)和TM波(横磁波,磁场方向与入射面垂直的平面电磁波)照射下吸波体的反射系数,分析实现宽角度吸波效果所需的等效电磁参数,为宽角度超材料吸波体的设计提供了理论基础.此外,论文还理论分析了实现宽带宽角吸波等效电磁参数所要满足的条件,并做了计算检验.结果表明,当介质等效电磁参数按照特殊曲线随频率发生变化时,理论上能实现宽带宽角的吸波效果.  相似文献

基于两段相同金属分裂环谐振器构成的单层结构, 从理论及实验方面研究了平面超材料的可调谐Fano谐振. 实验测量了平面超材料对TE和TM入射波的电磁响应, 利用电磁波的入射角度控制Fano谐振的强度, 实现了谐振的开关特性, 谐振频率红移可达到21%. 基于有限元法给出了平面超材料的场分布, 强的正常色散表明平面超材料的电磁响应可类比经典电磁诱导透明现象, 仿真与实验结果相符合. 对称结构超材料Fano谐振的开/关特性为超材料性能的可调谐控制提供了有效途径.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the electromagnetic properties of tellurium dielectric resonator metamaterial at the infrared wavelengths. The transmission spectra, effective permittivity and permeability of the periodic tellurium metamaterial structure are investigated in detail. The linewidth of the structure in the direction of magnetic field W x has effects on the position and strength of the electric resonance and magnetic resonance modes. With appropriately optimizing the geometric dimensions of the designed structure, the proposed tellurium metamaterial structure can provide electric resonance mode and high order magnetic resonance mode in the same frequency band. This would be helpful to analyze and design low-loss negative refraction index metamaterials at the infrared wavelengths.  相似文献

In this paper, a split ring resonator (SRR) bounded new cohesive symmetric hook-C shaped unit cell is developed. The metamaterial has 4   ×  4-unit cell array, which is applicable for s-band application for its high bandwidth (S21 < -10 dB) of 0.6 GHz and high effective medium ratio (EMR) 12.78. Commercially available electromagnetic simulator CST (Computer simulation technology) microwave studio has been utilized at 2.93 GHz resonance frequency in this investigation. The electric field of this design is also observed by modifying the design structure that shows effective results. The new developed hook-C shaped metamaterial is fabricated and measured to validate the simulation results, which is eligible for high performance in long distance communications. The proposed metamaterial is highly recommended to apply in Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) system for its highly effective medium ratio and size miniaturization.  相似文献

Tunable metamaterial operating in terahertz (THz) frequency range based on dielectric cubic particles with deposited conducting resonant strip was investigated. The frequency of the first magnetic type Mie resonance depends on the electric length of the strip. It can be changed under photoexcitation or applied voltage. This method of control was used for a design of tunable double negative metamaterial based on dielectric resonant inclusions and wire medium.  相似文献

The Maxwell-Garnett theory for a right-handed homogeneous system is extended in order to investigate the effective response of a medium consisting of low density distributed 3-dimensional inclusions. The polarisability factor is modified to account for inclusions with binary layered volumes and it is shown that such a configuration can yield doubly negative effective permittivity and permeability. Terms representing second-order scattering interactions between binary inclusions in the medium are derived and are used to reformulate conventional effective medium theory. In the appropriate limit, the one-body theory of Maxwell-Garnett is recovered. The scattering cross section of the spherical inclusions is determined and comparison is made to homogeneous dielectric scatterers in the Rayleigh limit. It is found that the scattering resonances can be manipulated using the inclusion parameters. Furthermore, the effect that two-interacting spherical inclusions in a medium have on the scattering cross section is investigated via higher order dipole moments while the issue of reducing the scattering cross section to zero is also examined.  相似文献

Metamaterials have effective properties that are distinct from their composites as they consist of engineered-designed properties that are not in nature. In order to be able to design a metamaterial, we should establish sufficient understanding of the properties of the constituents. This will enable us to engineer new effective parameters of the metamaterial. We shall perform a detailed analytical study for the effective parameters and the constituents’ parameters of silver–silica metamaterial. This will define the optical response of the mixture at different sizes of the inclusions’ and different volume fractions of the silver and silica. Also an optimum value of the volume fraction is proposed to achieve a broadened resonance optical response. Finally, we propose the design technique and constraints of a non-magnetic optical cloaking device, based on high-order transformation optics with different volume fractions of silver and silica.  相似文献

A new theoretical approach for the calculation of optical properties of complex solutions is proposed. It is based on a dielectric matrix εm with included small metallic inclusions (less than 3 nm) of spherical shape. We take into account the mutual interactions between the inclusions and the quantum finite-size effects. On the basis of the effective medium model, TDLDA and Kohn-Sham theories, some analytical expressions for the effective dielectric permittivity of the solution are obtained.  相似文献

An electromagnetically induced transparency metamaterial (EITM) based on dielectric resonators is presented in this paper, which consists of a cut wire (CW) and ten dielectric columns. Destructive interference between the CW, which is a branch of the microstrip line, and the dielectric resonators causes the EIT phenomenon. The simulation results show that the dielectric-based EITM designed can obtain a transmission peak of 0.938 at 2.17 GHz, and the two-oscillator model is utilized to verify the effectiveness of the structure. In addition, samples of the dielectric-based EITM are also fabricated and the effectiveness of the metamaterial is experimentally verified. The proposed metamaterial has several advantages, including high efficiency, low loss, a simple structure, and ease of manufacture, which has good prospects for application in the fields of electromagnetic switches, sensors, and nonlinear metamaterials.  相似文献

Planar metamaterials with omega shaped metallic inclusions were studied experimentally and theoretically. Our results show that when the incidence is perpendicular to the plane of the omega structure, the omega medium acts effectively as an electric resonator metamaterial. The stop band of the omega medium is due to the negative part of the electric resonance of the omega structure. The transmission band of the composite metamaterial (CMM) that is based on the omega medium is due to the strong positive part of the electric resonance of the omega structure. Consequently, the transmission band of the CMM does not coincide with the stop band of the omega medium. Furthermore, the transmission band of the CMM is a band with positive refractive indices. Our experimental and numerical results are in good agreement.  相似文献

提出了一种新的基于石墨烯超表面的复合结构,该结构由带有空气槽的石墨烯条、氮化镓、二氧化硅和二氧化钛组成.通过时域有限差分法研究了该结构的电磁特性,研究结果表明,该结构具有更宽频带的电磁诱导透明特性.从结构参数、电磁场分布等方面研究了电磁诱导透明的物理机理.在该结构中,石墨烯条作为明模存在,耦合作为暗模的空气槽和氮化镓侧板,即存在两种明暗模耦合的现象,因此产生宽带的电磁诱导透明现象.从研究结果发现该结构可以产生多个频点的慢光效应和传感效应,因此在光存储、红外波段的传感器设计中具有一定的指导意义和潜在的应用.  相似文献

The dependences of the absorptivity of a nanocomposite layer (a dielectric matrix with spherical metal inclusions) on the frequency, the volume fraction, the size of inclusions, the thickness of the layer, and the angle of incidence of the wave on it are studied. It is shown that the particular features of optical characteristics are related with the plasmon resonance in nanoparticles and the resonant-frequency dependence of the dielectric permittivity of the composite medium. The values of film parameters and frequency intervals in which the incident radiation is absorbed almost completely are found.  相似文献

通过将两个金属开口环谐振器口对口地放置, 实现了超材料谐振子间的电耦合谐振. 对电耦合谐振的微波等效电路进行了理论分析和数值计算, 结果表明耦合后的超材料谐振子能产生两个谐振频率, 其中一个随耦合强度的增加逐渐向低频方向移动, 而另一个固定在单谐振子的谐振频率处不变. 微波透射谱的实验测试和电磁仿真结果表明, 两个谐振峰随耦合强度的增加分别向低频和高频方向移动. 分析表明: 低频谐振峰的位置主要是由超材料谐振子间的电耦合强度决定的; 高频谐振偏离单谐振子的谐振频率主要是由不可避免的磁耦合引起的, 而且在耦合间距越小时磁耦合影响越大. 提出的基于超材料谐振子间的电磁耦合实现的双频谐振及其可调性极大地增加了超材料的设计与应用空间.  相似文献

提出了一种基于平行金属条和细金属线的双梯形二维超材料结构单元.该结构由介质板以及其两侧放置的一对反向对称梯形金属条组成.与传统二维超材料相比,该结构在电磁波平行入射时具有双左手频带特性,在电磁波双向入射情况下具有良好的左手频带拓展性,且结构易于制备.利用电磁仿真软件分别模拟电磁波垂直入射和平行入射条件下该结构的电磁性能.结果表明:该结构在两种入射情况下均能实现双负特性;梯形上底每增大0.5mm,双入射情况下结构的双负特性分别向高频移动0.2GHz和0.4GHz.该研究对基于平行金属条的左手材料的研究以及二维左手材料的发展具有参考价值.  相似文献

Metamaterials have been extensively investigated for the development of invisibility cloaks; however, the role of nonequilibrium thermal fluctuations in the operation of metamaterial‐based cloaking remains an unexplored avenue. Here, an analytical study on nonequilibrium thermal fluctuations induced charges and currents in metamaterials which generate electromagnetic modes is presented. It is argued that thermally induced charges in metamaterials cannot remain shielded from incoming electromagnetic radiation and excitation of such charges, by incoming electromagnetic waves, can enhance specific modes, whose radiation limits the invisibility effects associated with metamaterial‐based cloaking. The analysis leads to the conclusion that thermodynamic equilibrium is an essential condition of the invisibility of metamaterial‐based cloaking.  相似文献
