This paper reports on the regenerative properties and efficiency of an all-optical 2R regenerator based on a tandem of saturable absorber (SA) chips. A new SA structure allowing mark level equalization, which is a complement to the function of extinction ratio enhancement of the classical SA structure, is described. The experimental results at 42.6 Gbit/s show that amplitude fluctuations on both low and high power levels are significantly reduced with the SA tandem regenerator, and the system margin improvements in terms of receiver sensitivity and Q factor are obtained.  相似文献

We present a study of the spatial propagation of light in a third order planar step-index waveguide with a transverse parabolic width film. By using the Lagrangian formalism, the width and phase evolution of a Gaussian beam has been completely described showing both the refractive contributions of the lens-like waveguiding geometry and self-focusing nonlinearity. As a result of this study, we have proposed the design of a new kind of integrated all-optical devices which, by means of the spatial beam power modulation and its influence on the transverse modal coupling can operate as phase-insensitive AND, OR and XOR logic gates.  相似文献

When the two-photon absorption of a high intensity pump beam takes place in a semiconductor optical amplifier there is an associated fast phase change of a weak probe signal. A scheme to realize fast all-optical XOR logic function using two-photon absorption induced phase change has been analyzed. Rate equations for semiconductor optical amplifiers, for input data signals with high intensity, configured in the form of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer has been solved. The input intensities are high enough so that the two-photon induced phase change is larger than the regular gain induced phase change. The model shows that both XOR operation and pseudo-random binary sequence generation at 250 Gb/s with good signal to noise ratio is feasible.  相似文献

We present the results of analysis of rate equations for reverse saturable absorption (RSA) process to understand the applicability and probable errors in using only time dependence of the excitation pulse as against both space and time dependence in numerical simulations of rate equations. We have considered a three-level approximation of the five-level rate equations under nano-second laser pulse excitations. The population density, nonlinear absorption and transmission have been calculated and compared for different approximations and for different excitation pulse spatial shapes. We show that the neglect of spatial characteristics of the excitation pulses in the rate equation analysis can lead to considerable errors in the numerical simulations of RSA in case of excitation fluences below the fluence for saturation of transmission.  相似文献

We show that by exploiting unequal magnitude of cross phase modulation (XPM) in co-propagating and counter-propagating beams, an all-optical circulator (AOC) using a nonlinear Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) could be constructed. 提出了一种新型的基于高非线性光纤(HNLF)中非线性 偏振旋转(NPR)效应的全光逻辑门实现方案. 将两路非归零码数据信号A和B以及一路直流光同时注入HNLF, 光功率变化导致的非线性双折射在两个偏振分量上引入非线性相对相移, 从而导致光信号的偏振态旋转. 在HNLF输出端, 通过波分解复用器和偏振分束器同时滤出数据信号和直流光的正交偏振态, 从而同时实现多种基础组合逻辑, 并可以在同一段HNLF中实现较为复杂的半加器、半减器逻辑功能. 理论分析了信号光在HNLF中的偏振态演化, 以及利用HNLF中的NPR效应同时实现多种全光逻辑门的原理. 并在实验中得到了10 Gbit/s全光信号"与”、"非”、"或”、"同或”、"异或”、"A· B”、"A·B”、半加器、半减器等逻辑功能, 验证了方案的可行性.  相似文献

We report the realization of a novel all-optical logic AND-NOR gate based on cross-gain modulation (XGM). The used scheme requires only one SOA to perform the logic gate with three input signals. A 8.5 dB dynamic extinction ratio with a switching time of about 650 ps for the rise time and 100 ps for the fall time.  相似文献

This paper proposes and simulates a novel all-optical error-bit amplitude monitor based on cross-gain modulation and four-wave mixing in cascaded semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), which function as logic NOT and logic AND, respectively. The proposed scheme is successfully simulated for 40 Gb/s return-to-zero (RZ) signal with different duty cycles. In the first stage, the SOA is followed by a detuning filter to accelerate the gain recovery as well as improve the extinction ratio. A clock probe signal is used to avoid the edge pulse-pairs in the output waveform. Among these RZ formats, 33% RZ format is preferred to obtain the largest eye opening. The normalized error amplitude, defined as error bit amplitude over the standard mark amplitude, has a dynamic range from 0.1 to 0.65 for all RZ formats. The simulations show small input power dynamic range because of the nonlinear gain variation in the first stage. This scheme is competent for nonreturn-to-zero format at 10Gb/s as well.  相似文献

We demonstrate narrow band optical filter like frequency response with full width half maximum (FWHM) of nearly (1.75 ± 0.25) Hz in fluorescein doped boric acid glass films [10−4 M], using modulated optical phase conjugation and a nearly non-degenerate four wave mixing technique. Modulated optical phase conjugation signals are described in the limit of a weak probe and relatively strong pump beams. Both pump beams are of nearly equal intensity at a wavelength of 514.5 nm from a continuous-wave Ar+ laser. The probe beam frequency has been detuned with a ramp signal using a piezo electric mirror.  相似文献

We propose a new scheme to realize all optical logic NAND operating at high speeds up to 250 Gb/s utilizing the ultrafast phase response during two-photon absorption (TPA) process in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). NAND gate is important because other Boolean logic elements and circuits can be realized using NAND gates as basic building blocks. Rate equations for semiconductor optical amplifiers (for input data signals with high intensity) configured in the form of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer have been solved. The input intensities are high enough so that the two-photon induced phase change is larger than the regular gain induced phase change. The performance of this scheme is analyzed by calculating the quality factor of the resulting data streams. The results show that both AND and NAND operations at 250 Gb/s with good signal to noise ratio are feasible.  相似文献
