The anomalously large transmission of an electromagnetic wave through structures consisting of two periodic arrays of subwavelength slits in films has been investigated. The conditions ensuring zero transmittance of this system have been determined. The role of surface plasmon polaritons in transmission anomalies has been analyzed. An analysis of the systems consisting of three arrays of slits has revealed specific features of the transmittance that are independent of the number of slits. It has been demonstrated that, at a wavelength corresponding to the excitation of a surface plasmon polariton in the gap between two periodic arrays of subwavelength slits, the transmittance is zero (i.e., transmission is suppressed). The investigation has been carried out using numerical simulations with the Fourier modal method.  相似文献

In this paper we compare the sensitivity of the Extraordinary Transmittance (ET) peak position with the surrounding media for two types of metallic structures: arrays of holes and arrays of slits recorded in Au films. Both types of array were fabricated using Interference Lithography (IL) with a period of 700 nm and an Au thickness of 150 nm. The transmission spectra measurements were performed at normal incidence using a spectrophotometer. The results show that an array of slits presents a higher sensitivity for the surrounding media than the array of holes. Theoretical TE and TM simulations of the transmission spectra for the slit arrays agree very well with the experimental results, confirming the better sensitivity of the slit arrays.  相似文献

It is generally admitted that the extraordinary transmission of metallic grating with very narrow slits is mainly due to the excitation of surface plasmons on the upper and lower interfaces of the grating. We show that the surface plasmon contribution is not the prime effect and that waveguide mode resonance and diffraction are responsible for the extraordinary transmission. Additionally and surprisingly, we reveal that the transmittance of subwavelength metallic gratings is always nearly zero for frequencies corresponding to surface plasmon excitation. This finding implies that surface plasmons play a negative role in the transmission.  相似文献

Transmission metallic gratings with subwavelength slits are known to produce enhanced transmitted intensity for certain resonant wavelengths. One of the mechanisms that produce these resonances is the excitation of waveguide modes inside the slits. We show that by adding slits to the period, the transmission maxima are widened and, simultaneously, this generates phase resonances that appear as sharp dips in the transmission response. These resonances are characterized by a significant enhancement of the interior field.  相似文献

By using FDTD numerical simulations, we show that mechanism that is different from surface plasmon polaritons set up by the periodicity at the in-plane metal surfaces may account for the superenhanced light transmission through coaxial hole arrays. We propose that resonant cavity-enhanced light transmission is responsible for it. When an axis is introduced into a hole, slits of definite length are formed. We suppose that a coaxial hole will support the standing waves of Fabry–Pérot-like modes with frequency higher than its cutoff frequency if its gap is small enough in comparison to the wavelength of the incident light and if the metal film is thick enough.  相似文献

针对一维亚波长金属光栅异常透射现象实现的问题,利用时域有限差分法,对横电波(TE波)激励带电介质的亚波长一维金属光栅的光场分布进行了模拟分析,得到了TE波的透射率与电介质折射率的变化关系,从而发现TE波在所研究的模型下具有异常透射现象.基于导模共振理论建立了类导模共振理论,并应用该理论较好地解释了TE波在所研究模型下的异常透射现象,确定类导模共振是TE波产生异常透射性的主要原因.应用所建立的理论解决了传统透射理论无法解决的问题.类导模共振理论揭示了异常透射现象的物理本质,为进一步研究异常透射性的物理本质提 关键词: 金属光栅 横电波 异常透射 类导模共振  相似文献

Electromagnetic TM modes of metallic lamellar reflection or transmission gratings are analyzed by means of the parametric fourier modal method. We show that the resonant optical response of such devices is due to the excitation of guided waves inside the slits. Our rigorous methods allows us to define a resonance condition number and to calculate the field everywhere inside the grating layer.  相似文献

A complete landscape is presented of the acoustic transmission properties of subwavelength apertures (slits and holes). First, we study the emergence of Fabry-Perot resonances in single apertures. When these apertures are placed in a periodic fashion, a new type of transmission resonance appears in the spectrum. We demonstrate that this resonance stems from the excitation of an acoustic guided wave that runs along the plate, which hybridizes strongly with the Fabry-Perot resonances associated with waveguide modes in single apertures. A detailed discussion of the similarities and differences with the electromagnetic case is also given.  相似文献

We investigate the relationship between the transmission and the layer distance of double-layer gold slit arrays by using the finite-difference time-domain method.The results show that the transmission properties can be influenced strongly by layer distance.We attribute the two types of resonant modes to surface plasmon resonance and the localised waveguide resonance.We find that the localised waveguide transmission peak redshifts and becomes broader with increasing layer distance D.We also describe and explain the splitting,shift,and degeneration of the surface plasmon resonant transmission peak theoretically.In addition,to clarify the physical mechanism of the transmission behaviours,we analyse the distributions of electric field and total energy for the three transmission peaks with distance D=45 nm for the double-layer system.Light transporting behaviours are mostly concentrated in the region of the slits as well as the interspaces of the two layers,and for different resonant wavelengths the electric field and energy distributions are different.It is expected that the results obtained here will be helpful for designing subwavelength metallic grating devices.  相似文献

金属薄膜上亚波长金属狭缝的非共振光增强透射对宽频带光子器件的设计具有重要意义. 为增强金属狭缝的光透射, 设计了内嵌矩形腔楔形金属狭缝阵列, 并用有限元方法研究了该结构的透射特性. 结果表明, 内嵌矩形腔的楔形金属狭缝阵列比无矩形腔的楔形金属狭缝阵列透射率高. 此外, 还研究了矩形腔的结构参数和位置对内嵌矩形腔楔形金属狭缝阵列透射特性的影响. 这些结果将对设计具有更高透射能力的金属狭缝具有一定的指导意义. 关键词: 光异常透射 金属狭缝 表面等离极化激元  相似文献

We theoretically describe a way to enhance harmonic generation from subwavelength slits milled on semiconductor substrates in strongly absorptive regimes. The metal-like response typical of semiconductors, like GaAs and GaP, triggers enhanced transmission and nonlinear optical phenomena in the deep UV range. We numerically study correlations between linear and nonlinear responses and their intricacies in infinite arrays, and highlight differences between nonlinear surface and magnetic sources, and intrinsic χ((2)) and χ((3)) contributions to harmonic generation. The results show promising efficiencies at wavelengths below 120 nm, and reveal coupling of TE and TM polarizations for pump and harmonic signals. A downconversion process that can regenerate pump photons with polarization orthogonal to the incident pump is also discussed.  相似文献

We theoretically study the resonant transmission of electromagnetic waves at the THz frequencies through subwavelength semiconductor slits under external static magnetic fields. The dispersion relations of the surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) inside a subwavelength slit are analytically derived. It is found that the SPPs propagating along one direction and its reverse are symmetric when parallel external magnetic fields are applied, but are asymmetric when antiparallel external magnetic fields are applied. The transmission properties of periodic subwavelength semiconductor slit arrays with the antiparallel magnetic fields in each unit cell are investigated by the mode expansion technique. The two significant transmission characteristics are observed: (i) The resonant peaks are redshifted with increasing external magnetic fields; (ii) The transmissions in the two opposite directions through the slit arrays are asymmetric. The origin of the transmission asymmetry is reasonably explained by the magnetic-field induced asymmetric SPP propagation losses.  相似文献

We experimentally and computationally demonstrate high transmission through arrays of coaxial apertures with different geometries and arrangements in silver films. By studying both periodic and random arrangements of apertures, we were able to isolate transmission enhancement phenomena owing to surface plasmon effects from those owing to the excitation of cylindrical surface plasmons within the apertures themselves.  相似文献

Transmission of polarized light through subwavelength slit apertures is studied in visible and near infrared range wavelengths. We examine the roles played by the slit apertures, such as length, depth, period and number of slits. The experiment results, including dispersion curves, demonstrate among other things that the surface plasmon polariton and Fabry-Perot waveguide modes collectively dictate the transmission properties of subwavelength slit arrays and that as they approach each other, not only large gaps are formed but also mode interconversion occurs. These findings are discussed and compared to theoretical predictions.  相似文献

This paper has made a theoretical study of enhanced transmission through a gold grating with arrays of subwavelength slits filled with nonlinear Kerr medium. We study the plasmon-assisted transmission of two kinds of slit structures in a 290-nm-thick silver film on a glass substrate. For the two-slit structure, the total transmission intensity spectra displays a complex modulation, which is attributed to different propagation constants of the surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on the silver-air and silver-glass interfaces. Replacing one of the two slits by a shallow corrugation results in a simple sinusoidal intensity modulation because of the only effective SPP excitation and propagation on the silver-air interface. These confirm the role of different SPP propagations and interference in the transmission properties of metal nanoslits.  相似文献

In this paper we study the extraordinary optical transmission of one-dimensional multi-slits in an ideal metal film.The transmissivity is calculated as a function of various structural parameters.The transmissivity oscillates,with the period being just the light wavelength,as a function of the spacing between slits.As the number of slits increases,the transmissivity varies in one of three ways.It can increase,attenuate,or remain basically unchanged,depending on the spacing between slits.Each way is in an oscillatory manner.The slit interaction responsible for the oscillating transmission strength that depends on slit spacing is the subject of more detailed investigation.The interaction most intuitively manifests as a current distribution in the metal surface between slits.We find that this current is attenuated in an oscillating fashion from the slit corners to the center of the region between two adjacent slits,and we present a mathematical expression for its waveform.  相似文献
