Our main result offers a new (quite systematic) way of deriving bounds for the cup-length of Poincaré spaces over fields; we outline a general research program based on this result. For the oriented Grassmann manifolds, already a limited realization of the program leads, in many cases, to the exact values of the cup-length and to interesting information on the Lyusternik-Shnirel'man category.  相似文献

The problem of a stressed state in a nonhomogeneous infinite plane consisting of two different anisotropic half-planes and having slits of finite number on the interface line is investigated. It is assumed that the difference between the displacement and stress vector values is given on the interface line segments; on the edges of the slits we have the following data: boundary values of stress vector (problem of stress) or displacement vector values on one side of the slits, and stress vector values on the other side (mixed problem). The Krzy? conjecture concerns the largest values of the Taylor coefficients of a non-vanishing analytic function bounded by one in modulus in the unit disk. It has been open since 1968 even though information on the structure of extremal functions is available. The purpose of this paper is to collect various conditions that the coefficients of an extremal function (and various other quantities associated with it) should satisfy if the conjecture is true and to show that each one of these properties is equivalent to the conjecture itself. This may provide several possible starting points for future attempts at solving the problem.  相似文献

We investigate constant mean curvature complete vertical graphs in a warped product, which is supposed to satisfy an appropriated convergence condition. In this setting, under suitable restrictions on the values of the mean curvature and the norm of the gradient of the height function, we obtain rigidity theorems concerning to such graphs. Furthermore, applications to the hyperbolic and Euclidean spaces are given.  相似文献

We present a method for numerical computation of conformal mappings from simply or doubly connected domains onto so-called canonical domains, which in our case are rectangles or annuli. The theory of symmetric functions has many applications in the investigation of fixed points, estimation of absolute values of some integrals and obtaining the results of the type of Cartan’s uniqueness theorem. In this paper, we solve some differential subordinations and superordinations involving analytic functions with respect to the symmetric points and also derive some sandwich results under certain assumptions on the parameters involved. The various results presented in this paper are shown to apply to yield the corresponding (new or known) results for many simpler function classes.  相似文献

In this paper, we address linear bilevel programs when the coefficients of both objective functions are interval numbers. The focus is on the optimal value range problem which consists of computing the best and worst optimal objective function values and determining the settings of the interval coefficients which provide these values. We prove by examples that, in general, there is no precise way of systematizing the specific values of the interval coefficients that can be used to compute the best and worst possible optimal solutions. Taking into account the properties of linear bilevel problems, we prove that these two optimal solutions occur at extreme points of the polyhedron defined by the common constraints. Moreover, we develop two algorithms based on ranking extreme points that allow us to compute them as well as determining settings of the interval coefficients which provide the optimal value range.  相似文献

We first give some new characterizations on BMOA–Teichmüller space and various characterizations on VMOA–Teichmüller space as well. In particular, we prove that a quasisymmetric conformal welding hh corresponds to an asymptotically smooth curve in the sense of Pommerenke (1978) [32] precisely when hh is absolutely continuous with logh∈VMOloghVMO. We then show that these BMO–Teichmüller spaces have natural complex structures.  相似文献

A temporally global solution, if it exists, of a nonautonomous ordinary differential equation need not be periodic, almost periodic or almost automorphic when the forcing term is periodic, almost periodic or almost automorphic, respectively. An alternative class of functions extending periodic and almost periodic functions which has the property that a bounded temporally global solution solution of a nonautonomous ordinary differential equation belongs to this class when the forcing term does is introduced here. Specifically, the class of functions consists of uniformly continuous functions, defined on the real line and taking values in a Banach space, which have pre-compact ranges. Besides periodic and almost periodic functions, this class also includes many nonrecurrent functions. Assuming a hyperbolic structure for the unperturbed linear equation and certain properties for the linear and nonlinear parts, the existence of a special bounded entire solution, as well the existence of stable and unstable manifolds of this solution are established. Moreover, it is shown that this solution and these manifolds inherit the temporal behaviour of the vector field equation. In the stable case it is shown that this special solution is the pullback attractor of the system. A class of infinite dimensional examples involving a linear operator consisting of a time independent part which generates a C0-semigroup plus a small time dependent part is presented and applied to systems of coupled heat and beam equations.  相似文献

We are concerned with estimating parameter values at which bifurcations occur in stochastic delay differential equations. After a brief review of bifurcation, we employ a numerical approach and consider how bifurcation values are influenced by the choice of numerical scheme and the step length and by the level of white noise present in the equation. In this paper we provide a formulaic relationship between the estimated bifurcation value, the level of noise, the choice of numerical scheme and the step length. We are able to show that in the presence of noise there may be some loss of order in the accuracy of the approximation to the true bifurcation value compared to the use of the same approach in the absence of noise.  相似文献

We associate several distribution boundary values to an eigenfunction with moderate growth on a riemannian symmetric space G/K; the associated character of the algebra D(G/K) of invariant differential operators is allowed to be non-regular. We prove results on the support of these boundary values. These allow us to recover the theorems of Matsuki-Oshima and Oshima on the equivalence between growth of an eigenfunction and limitations on the supports of its boundary values. Our approach is based on an asymptotic analysis that makes no use of hyperfunction theory.  相似文献

The concept of system signature was introduced by Samaniego for systems whose components have i.i.d. lifetimes. We consider its extension to the continuous dependent case and give an explicit expression for this extension as a difference of weighted means of the structure function values. We then derive a formula for the computation of the coefficients of these weighted means in the special case of independent continuous lifetimes. Finally, we interpret this extended concept of signature through a natural least squares approximation problem.  相似文献

A new method is proposed for solving box constrained global optimization problems. The basic idea of the method is described as follows: Constructing a so-called cut-peak function and a choice function for each present minimizer, the original problem of finding a global solution is converted into an auxiliary minimization problem of finding local minimizers of the choice function, whose objective function values are smaller than the previous ones. For a local minimum solution of auxiliary problems this procedure is repeated until no new minimizer with a smaller objective function value could be found for the last minimizer. Construction of auxiliary problems and choice of parameters are relatively simple, so the algorithm is relatively easy to implement, and the results of the numerical tests are satisfactory compared to other methods.  相似文献

A method where polygon corners in Schwarz–Christoffel mappings are rounded, is used to construct mappings from the upper half-plane to regions bounded by arbitrary piecewise smooth curves. From a given curve, a polygon is constructed by taking tangents to the curve in a number of carefully chosen so-called tangent points. The Schwarz–Christoffel mapping for that polygon is then constructed and modified to round the corners.  相似文献

Building on work of Saxl, we classify the multiplicity-free permutation characters of all symmetric groups of degree 66 or more. A corollary is a complete list of the irreducible characters of symmetric groups (again of degree 66 or more) which may appear in a multiplicity-free permutation representation. The multiplicity-free characters in a related family of monomial characters are also classified. We end by investigating a consequence of these results for Specht filtrations of permutation modules defined over fields of prime characteristic.  相似文献

We prove by elementary means that, if the Bergman orthogonal polynomials of a bounded simply-connected planar domain, with sufficiently regular boundary, satisfy a finite-term relation, then the domain is algebraic and characterized by the fact that Dirichlet’s problem with boundary polynomial data has a polynomial solution. This, and an additional compactness assumption, is known to imply that the domain is an ellipse. In particular, we show that if the Bergman orthogonal polynomials satisfy a three-term relation then the domain is an ellipse. This completes an inquiry started forty years ago by Peter Duren. Summary In this note we consider so called p-analytic mappings of simply or doubly connected domains on rectangles or circular rings. Real and imaginary parts of the mappings can be described by minimal-principles. By minimizing the corresponding functionals in a class of linear or bilinear finite elements we obtain an approximation of the mapping and also upper and lower bounds for the p-module of a domain with polygonal boundary. Error bounds are given for smooth and for piecewise constant functionsp. We present numerical experiments.
