We prove a conjecture of Bahri, Bendersky, Cohen and Gitler: if K is a shifted simplicial complex on n vertices, X1,…,Xn are pointed connected CW-complexes and CXi is the cone on Xi, then the polyhedral product determined by K and the pairs (CXi,Xi) is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of suspensions of smashes of the Xi’s. Earlier work of the authors dealt with the special case where each Xi is a loop space. New techniques are introduced to prove the general case. These have the advantage of simplifying the earlier results and of being sufficiently general to show that the conjecture holds for a substantially larger class of simplicial complexes. We discuss connections between polyhedral products and toric topology, combinatorics, and classical homotopy theory. 相似文献

In this article, we construct simply connected symplectic Calabi–Yau 6-manifolds by applying Gompf's symplectic fiber sum operation along T4. Using our method, we also construct symplectic non-Kähler Calabi–Yau 6-manifolds with fundamental group Z. This paper also produces the first examples of simply connected and non-simply connected symplectic Calabi–Yau 6-manifolds with fundamental groups Zp×Zq, and Z×Zq for any p≥1 and q≥2via co-isotropic Luttinger surgery. 相似文献

Given a tree T on n vertices, there is an associated ideal I of R[x1,…,xn] generated by all paths of a fixed length ? of T . We classify all trees for which R/I is Cohen–Macaulay, and we show that an ideal I whose generators correspond to any collection of subtrees of T satisfies the König property. Since the edge ideal of a simplicial tree has this form, this generalizes a result of Faridi. Moreover, every square-free monomial ideal can be represented (non-uniquely) as a subtree ideal of a graph, so this construction provides a new combinatorial tool for studying square-free monomial ideals. 相似文献

Protein translocation in cells has been modelled by Brownian ratchets . In such models, the protein diffuses through a nanopore. On one side of the pore, ratcheting molecules bind to the protein and hinder it to diffuse out of the pore. We study a Brownian ratchet by means of a reflected Brownian motion (Xt)t≥0 with a changing reflection point (Rt)t≥0. The rate of change of Rt is γ(Xt−Rt) and the new reflection boundary is distributed uniformly between Rt− and Xt. The asymptotic speed of the ratchet scales with γ1/3 and the asymptotic variance is independent of γ. 相似文献

In the complex case A is assumed to be either analytic in the unit disc D or entire, while in the real case A is continuous either on (−1,1) or on (0,∞). We prove that the quotient of Voevodsky's category of geometric mixed motives DMgm by the endofunctor −⊗Q(1)[2] embeds fully-faithfully into Kontsevich's category of noncommutative mixed motives KMM. We show moreover that this embedding is compatible with the one between Chow motives and noncommutative Chow motives. Along the way, we relate KMM with Morel–Voevodsky's stable A1-homotopy category, recover the twisted algebraic K-theory of Kahn–Levine from KMM, and extend Elmendorf–Mandell's foundational work on multicategories to a broader setting. 相似文献

In an earlier publication a linear operator THar was defined as an unusual self-adjoint extension generated by each linear elliptic partial differential expression, satisfying suitable conditions on a bounded region Ω of some Euclidean space. In this present work the authors define an extensive class of THar-like self-adjoint operators on the Hilbert function space L2(Ω); but here for brevity we restrict the development to the classical Laplacian differential expression, with Ω now the planar unit disk. It is demonstrated that there exists a non-denumerable set of such THar-like operators (each a self-adjoint extension generated by the Laplacian), each of which has a domain in L2(Ω) that does not lie within the usual Sobolev Hilbert function space W2(Ω). These THar-like operators cannot be specified by conventional differential boundary conditions on the boundary of ∂Ω, and may have non-empty essential spectra. 相似文献

Consider the ideal I⊆K[x,y,z] corresponding to points p1,…,pr of P2. We study the symbolic generic initial system {gin(I(m))}m of such an ideal and its behaviour as m gets large. In particular, we describe the limiting shape of this system explicitly when p1,…,pr are generic, assuming that the Uniform SHGH Conjecture holds for r≥9.
