This paper establishes some new equalities and inequalities for the null and column spaces of combinations of two projectors P and Q. Some new necessary and sufficient conditions for P ± Q to be invertible are given by the structure of null and column space of some combinations of P and Q. In addition, the inclusion relation of N(P Q + QP) and N(P Q- QP) is discussed and necessary and sufficient conditions for them to be equal are also studied.     

关于单形的几个不等式及其应用

Using theory of distance geometry and analytic method, the problem on relations about the volumes of some simplices is studied, and some new inequalities for the volumes of simplices are established. As special cases, an inequality for the volume of the pedal simplex of a simplex and other inequalities for simplices are gotten.     

Some new results for demimartingales

Harremoёs obtained some new maximal inequalities for non-negative martingales. In this paper, we get some new maximal and minimal inequalities for non-negative demimartingales which generalize the results of Harremoёs. We also obtain an inequality for non-negative demimartingales which generalizes the result of Iksanov and Marynych. Finally we obtain a strong law of large numbers, strong growth rate and integrability of supremum for demimartingales which generalize and improve the result of Chow.     

NONDEGENERACY OF POSITIVE SOLUTIONS TO HOMOGENEOUS SECOND-ORDER DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEMS AND ITS APPLICATIONS

This article considers the Dirichlet problem of homogeneous and inhomogeneous second-order ordinary differential systems. A nondegeneracy result is proven for positive solutions of homogeneous systems. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of multiple positive solutions for inhomogeneous systems are obtained by making use of the nondegeneracy and uniqueness results of homogeneous systems.     

APPROXIMATE DUALITY OF g-FRAMES IN HILBERT SPACES

In this article, we introduce and characterize approximate duality for g-frames. We get some important properties and applications of approximate duals. We also obtain some new results in approximate duality of frames, and generalize some of the known results in approximate duality of frames to g-frames. We also get some results for fusion frames, and perturbation of approximately dual g-frames. We show that approximate duals are stable under small perturbations and they are useful for erasures and reconstruction.     

EKELAND＇S PRINCIPLE FOR SET-VALUED VECTOR EQUILIBRIUM PROBLEMS

In this paper, we introduce a concept of quasi C-lower semicontinuity for setvalued mapping and provide a vector version of Ekeland's theorem related to set-valued vector equilibrium problems. As applications, we derive an existence theorem of weakly efficient solution for set-valued vector equilibrium problems without the assumption of convexity of the constraint set and the assumptions of convexity and monotonicity of the set-valued mapping.We also obtain an existence theorem of ε-approximate solution for set-valued vector equilibrium problems without the assumptions of compactness and convexity of the constraint set.     

COMPACT DIFFERENCE SCHEMES FOR THE DIFFUSION AND SCHRODINGER EQUATIONS. APPROXIMATION,STABILITY, CONVERGENCE,EFFECTIVENESS, MONOTONY

Various compact difference schemes （both old and new, explicit and implicit, one-level and two-level）, which approximate the diffusion equation and SchrSdinger equation with periodical boundary conditions are constructed by means of the general approach. The results of numerical experiments for various initial data and right hand side are presented. We evaluate the real order of their convergence, as well as their stability, effectiveness, and various kinds of monotony. The optimal Courant number depends on the number of grid knots and on the smoothness of solutions. The competition of various schemes should be organized for the fixed number of arithmetic operations, which are necessary for numerical integration of a given Cauchy problem. This approach to the construction of compact schemes can be developed for numerical solution of various problems of mathematical physics.     

Unicyclic graphs of minimal spectral radius

It was conjectured by Li and Feng in 1979 that the unicyclic graph formed by a cycle of order g linking to an endvertex of a path of length k minimizes the spectral radius of all unicyclic graphs of order g + k and girth g. In 1987, Cao proved that this conjecture is true for k ≥ g(g 2)/8 and false for k = 2 and sufficiently large g. In this note, we show that g 12 suffices for the counterexample and give more counterexamples with large girth for any integer k 1.     

Hajek-Renyi-type Inequality for a Class of Random Variable Sequences and Its Applications

In this paper, we obtain the Hejek-Renyi-type inequality for a class of random variable sequences and give some applications for associated random variable sequences, strongly positive dependent stochastic sequences and martingale difference sequences which generalize and improve the results of Prakasa Rao and Soo published in Statist. Probab. Lett., 57（2002） and 78（2008）. Using this result, we get the integrability of supremum and the strong law of large numbers for a class of random variable sequences.     

非线性泛函差分方程解的性质

In this paper, some sufficient and necessary conditions are established for the oscillatory of solutions for nonlinear functional difference equations, which extend and improve some corresponding results obtained and are discrete analogues of the corresponding results for the continuous version.     

Trigonometric polynomial or exponential fitting approach?

The application of a trigonometric polynomial and an exponential fitting approach is compared for a three-point formula for second-order derivatives, for Simpson’s quadrature rule and for Numerov’s scheme for second-order differential equations. The expressions for the occurring parameters are constructed in both the approaches and the behaviour of these parameters with respect to the introduced frequency is studied. The errors for specific problems obtained in both the approaches as a function of the frequency are compared.

Non-compact generalized variational inequalities for quasi-monotone and hemi-continuous operators with applications

Some results are obtained for non-compact cases in topological vector spaces for the existence problem of solutions for some set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and lower hemi-continuous operators, and with quasi-semi-monotone and upper hemi-continuous operators. Some applications are given in non-reflexive Banach spaces for these existence problems of solutions and for perturbation problems for these set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and quasi-semi-monotone operators. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Determinants of matrices over semirings

In this paper, the concept of determinants for the matrices over a commutative semiring is introduced, and a development of determinantal identities is presented. This includes a generalization of the Laplace and Binet–Cauchy Theorems, as well as on adjoint matrices. Also, the determinants and the adjoint matrices over a commutative difference-ordered semiring are discussed and some inequalities for the determinants and for the adjoint matrices are obtained. The main results in this paper generalize the corresponding results for matrices over commutative rings, for fuzzy matrices, for lattice matrices and for incline matrices.     

Pricing strategies for perishable products: the case of Vienna and the hotel reservation system hrs.com

Consider a retailer who sells perishable products for which there is uncertain demand. Yield management with dynamic pricing is a standard practice that firms use for revenue management. For perishable products, recent analysis has focused on the distribution of flight capacity, referred to as ticket sales. Other non- storable, non-transportable, immaterial hospitality products include hotel capacity. The article discusses the extent to which hotel pricing strategies vary within the internet distribution system hrs.com. This study focuses on the distribution of hotel rooms available for booking on the internet for Vienna and gives an outlook to Euroland capitals. The main research interests are the underlying pricing models and the setting of the end price. Data was taken from hrs.com, which is the most important specialist for hotel room internet distribution in Germany according to recent studies by KMPG and others. The results include the identification of different pricing strategy clusters with regard to hotel category and hotel availability over a 22-day period for Vienna and one city from all Euroland countries (the capitals were studied for all cases except for the Netherlands, for which data was collected for Amsterdam). The study took the arrival days Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays into account, and used data for all these days from the 11th of July, 2005, to the 10th of October, 2005, for Vienna, and the first and the last of these dates as a comparison base for the other Euroland cities.     

On bounds for the mode and median of the generalized hyperbolic and related distributions

Except for certain parameter values, a closed form formula for the mode of the generalized hyperbolic (GH) distribution is not available. In this paper, we exploit results from the literature on modified Bessel functions and their ratios to obtain simple but tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the GH distribution for general parameter values. As a special case, we deduce tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the variance-gamma (VG) distribution, and through a similar approach we also obtain tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the McKay Type I distribution. The analogous problem for the median is more challenging, but we conjecture some monotonicity results for the median of the VG and McKay Type I distributions, from we which we conjecture some tight two-sided inequalities for their medians. Numerical experiments support these conjectures and also lead us to a conjectured tight lower bound for the median of the GH distribution.     

Superconvergence of mixed finite element semi-discretizations of two time-dependent problems

We will show that some of the superconvergence properties for the mixed finite element method for elliptic problems are preserved in the mixed semi-discretizations for a diffusion equation and for a Maxwell equation in two space dimensions. With the help of mixed elliptic projection we will present estimates global and pointwise in time. The results for the Maxwell equations form an extension of existing results. For both problems, our results imply that post-processing and a posteriori error estimation for the error in the space discretization can be performed in the same way as for the underlying elliptic problem.     

Stokes方程的压力梯度局部投影间断有限元法

Explicit Coercivity Estimates for the Linearized Boltzmann and Landau Operators

We prove explicit coercivity estimates for the linearized Boltzmann and Landau operators, for a general class of interactions including any inverse-power law interactions, and hard spheres. The functional spaces of these coercivity estimates depend on the collision kernel of these operators. They cover the spectral gap estimates for the linearized Boltzmann operator with Maxwell molecules, improve these estimates for hard potentials, and are the first explicit coercivity estimates for soft potentials (including in particular the case of Coulombian interactions). We also prove a regularity property for the linearized Boltzmann operator with non locally integrable collision kernels, and we deduce from it a new proof of the compactness of its resolvent for hard potentials without angular cutoff.
