First principle calculations of elastic properties under pressure of the filled tetrahedral semiconductors LiZnN, LiZnP and LiZnAs are presented, using the pseudo-potential plane-waves approach based on density functional theory, within the local density approximation. Elastic constants, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio are calculated at zero pressure. A linear dependence of the bulk modulus and elastic constants with applied pressure is found. As the experimental elastic constants are not available for LiZnX, we have also calculated the elastic constants of GaN, GaP and GaAs, the binary analogues of LiZnN, LiZnP and LiZnAs, respectively, for checking the reliability and accuracy of our predicted results for LiZnX. The obtained results agree well with the available experimental data.  相似文献

First principles calculations of structural, electronic, elastic, and phonon properties of the intermetallic compounds FeSi and CoSi in the B2 (CsCl) structure are presented, using the pseudopotential plane-wave approach based on density functional theory, within the local density approximation. The optimized lattice constants, independent elastic constants, bulk modulus, and first-order pressure derivative of the bulk modulus are reported for the B2 structure and compared with earlier experimental and theoretical calculations. A linear-response approach to density functional theory is used to derive the phonon dispersion curves, and the vibrational partial and total density of states. Atomic displacement patterns for FeSi at the Γ, X, and R symmetry points are presented. The calculated zone-center optical phonon mode for FeSi is in good agreement with experimental and theoretical data.  相似文献

The electronic structure, elastic and optical properties of Cu2ZnGe(SexS1 ? x)4 alloys are systematically analysed using first-principles calculations. The lattice parameters agree well with the theoretical and experimental values which are searched as complete as possible indicating our calculations are reliable. The elastic properties are investigated first and are compared with the similar compounds CZTS and CZTSe due to the unavailable experimental data currently. The variation of the optical properties caused by the increase of Se/S ratio is discussed. The static optical constants are calculated and the corrected values are also predicted according to the available experimental data.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations, based on norm-conserving non-local pseudopotentials and the density functional theory (DFT), have been performed to investigate the behaviour under hydrostatic pressure of the structural, electronic, elastic and dynamical properties of AlP, in both zinc-blende and nickel arsenide phases. Our calculated structural and electronic properties are in good agreement with previous theoretical and experimental results. The phonon dispersion curves, the elastic constants, Born effective charge, etc., were calculated with the local density approximation and the density functional perturbation theory (DFPT). Our results in the pressure behaviour of the elastic and dynamical properties of both phases are in agreement with the experimental data when available, in other case they can be considered as predictions.  相似文献

Electronic properties and elastic constants of AlN in the wurtzite, zinc-blende and rocksalt structures are investigated using an ab initio pseudopotential method based on the density-functional theory with both the local-density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation for the exchange-correlation functional. The numerically calculated results compare well with the existing experimental data. For elastic constants of rocksalt AlN our results are predictions.  相似文献

First principle calculations of structural and elastic properties of ZnAl2O4, ZnGa2O4 and ZnIn2O4 compounds are presented, using the pseudo-potential plane-waves approach based on density functional theory, within the generalized gradient approximation GGA. The lattice constants and internal parameters are in good agreement with the available experimental results. Young's modulus, Poisson ratio, bulk modulus, elastic constants and their pressure dependence are also calculated. As the experimental elastic constants are not available hence our results were only compared with the available theoretical values obtained at equilibrium volume.  相似文献

The third-order elastic moduli and pressure derivatives of the second-order elastic constants of novel B2-type AlRE (RE=Y, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy, Ce) intermetallics are presented from first-principles calculations. The elastic moduli are obtained from the coefficients of the polynomials from the nonlinear least-squares fitting of the energy–strain functions. The calculated second-order elastic constants of AlRE intermetallics are consistent with the previous calculations. To judge that our computational accuracy is reasonable, the calculated third-order constants of Al are compared with the available experimental data and other theoretical results and are found to have good agreements. In comparison with the theory of the linear elasticity, the third-order effects are very important with the finite strains which are lager than approximately 3.5%. Finally, the pressure derivatives have been discussed.  相似文献

Structural, phonon, optical, elastic and electronic properties of Y3Al5O12 have been investigated by means of the first principles method with the Cambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) code based on the density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters, valence charge density, bond length and single crystal elastic properties at zero pressure are in good agreement with the available experimental data. The close agreement with the experimental values provides a good confirmation of the reliability of the calculations. Optical, elastic and phonon properties of Y3Al5O12 under pressures are performed. The results that are obtained show the changes of optical and elastic properties under the influence of applied pressure, and proving the dynamical stability of YAG are destructed when applied pressure up to 7 GPa. Moreover, polycrystalline elastic moduli are deduced according to the Reuss assumption. Those elastic constants provide important parameters that describe reliability of both physical model and engineering application at the atomistic level. The result of the density of states explains the nature of the electronic band structure.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic, optical, and vibrational properties of cubic PdGa compound are investigated using the norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation (LDA) in the framework of the density functional theory. The calculated lattice constant has been compared with the experimental value and has been found to be in good agreement with experimental data. The obtained electronic band structures show that PdGa compound has no band gap. The second-order elastic constants have been calculated, and the other related quantities such as the Young’s modulus, shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio, anisotropy factor, sound velocities, and Debye temperature have also been estimated. Our calculated results of elastic constants show that this compound is mechanically stable. Furthermore, the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function and the optical constants such as the electron energy-loss function, the optical dielectric constant and the effective number of electrons per unit cell are calculated and presented in the study. The phonon dispersion curves are also derived using the direct method.  相似文献

We present the temperature-dependent elastic constants of two ductile rare-earth intermetallic compounds YAg and YCu with CsCl-type B2 structure by using a first-principles approach. The elastic moduli as a function of temperature are predicted from the combination of static volume-dependent elastic constants obtained by the first-principles total-energy method with density-functional theory and the thermal expansion obtained by the first-principles phonon calculations with density-functional perturbation theory. The comparison between our calculated results and the available experimental data for Ag and Cu provides good agreements. In the calculated temperature 0-1000 K, the elastic constants of YAg and YCu follow a normal behavior with temperature that those decrease with increasing temperature, and satisfy the stability conditions for B2 structures. The Cauchy pressure for YAg and YCu as a function of temperature is also discussed, and our results mean that YAg and YCu become more ductile while increasing temperature.  相似文献

Detailed ab initio calculations of the structural, electronic, optical and elastic properties of two crystals - magnesite (MgCO3) and calcite (CaCO3) - are reported in the present paper. Both compounds are important natural minerals, playing an important role in the carbon dioxide cycling. The optimized crystal structures, band gaps, density of states diagrams, elastic constants, optical absorption spectra and refractive indexes dependence on the wavelength all have been calculated and compared, when available, with literature data. Both crystals are indirect band compounds, with calculated band gaps of 5.08 eV for MgCO3 and 5.023 eV for CaCO3. Both values are underestimated by approximately 1.0 eV with respect to the experimental data. Although both crystals have the same structure, substitution of Mg by Ca ions leads to certain differences, which manifest themselves in noticeable change in the electronic bands profiles and widths, shape of the calculated absorption spectra, and values of the elastic constants. Response of both crystals to the applied hydrostatic pressure was analyzed in the pressure range of phase stability, variations of the lattice parameters and characteristic interionic distances were considered. The obtained dependencies of lattice constants and calculated band gap on pressure can be used for prediction of properties of these two hosts at elevated pressures that occur in the Earth's mantle.  相似文献

We present first-principles VASP calculations of the structural, electronic, vibrational, and optical properties of paraelectric SrTiO3 and KTaO3. The ab initio calculations are performed in the framework of density functional theory with different exchange-correlation potentials. Our calculated lattice parameters, elastic constants, and vibrational frequencies are found to be in good agreement with the available experimental values. Then, the bandstructures are calculated with the GW approximation, and the corresponding band gap is used to obtain the optical properties of SrTiO3 and KTaO3.  相似文献

The elastic, electronic, thermodynamic and optical properties of the zinc-blende structure aluminum nitride (AlN) under high pressure have been investigated using first-principles calculations. The dependencies of the elastic constants, the bulk modulus, the shear modulus and energy gaps on the applied pressure are presented, and the results are in good agreement with comparable experimental and theoretical values. Also, the energy band structure and density of states under high pressure have been analysed. Furthermore, the optical constants, including the dielectric function, optical reflectivity, refractive index and electron energy loss, are discussed for radiation up to 50 eV.

We use an ab initio full-potential linear muffin-tin orbital method within the local density approximation (LDA) to study the structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties of the antiperovskite BiNBa3. The calculated lattice parameter is in good agreement with previous calculations. The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated; we found a linear dependence of elastic stiffness on the pressure. We estimated the Debye temperature of this compound from the average sound velocity. We also present results of the effective masses for the electrons in the conduction band (CB) and the holes in the valence band (VB). To complete the fundamental characteristics of this compound we have analyzed the optical properties.  相似文献

The hydrostatic pressure dependence of the principal energy gaps and of the optical properties of GaX (X = P, As and Sb) has been calculated using the full potential-linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the exchange and correlation potential is applied. Also, we have used the Engel–Vosko GGA formalism, which optimizes the corresponding potential for band-structure and the optical properties calculations. Structural properties such as equilibrium lattice constants, the bulk modulus, and its pressure derivatives were calculated for GaP, GaAs, and GaSb in the zinc-blende structure (ZB). We have found that the results of the structural properties calculations are in agreement with those of ab initio and experimental data. In general, the pressure dependence of the principal energy gaps is compared to other values. The same is for the pressure coefficient. However, for the same structure, the comparison of our results with those of experimental and theoretical calculations shows good agreement. On the other hand, the effect of the applied pressure is clearly seen in the optical properties especially near the energy transition regions.  相似文献

First-principles study of structural, elastic, and electronic properties of the B20 structure OsSi has been reported using the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated equilibrium lattice and elastic constants are in good agreement with the experimental data and other theoretical results. The dependence of the elastic constants, the aggregate elastic modulus, the deviation from the Cauchy relation, the elastic wavevelocities in different directions and the elastic anisotropy on pressure have been obtained and discussed. This could be the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the elastic properties under high pressure of OsSi compound. Moreover, the electronic structure calculations show that OsSi is a degenerate semiconductor with the gap value of 0.68 eV, which is higher than theexperimental value of 0.26 eV. The analysis of the PDOS reveals that hybridization between Os d and Si p states indicates a certain covalency of the Os-Si bonds.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, and electronic properties of a series of lanthanide hexaborides(Ln B6) have been investigated by performing ab initio calculations based on the density functional theory using the Vienna ab initio simulation package. The calculated lattice and elastic constants of Ln B6 are in good agreement with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. The polycrystalline Young's modulus, shear modulus, the ratio of bulk to shear modulus B/G, Poisson's ratios, Zener anisotropy factors, as well as the Debye temperature are calculated, and all of the properties display some regularity with increasing atomic number of lanthanide atoms, whereas anomalies are observed for Eu B6 and Yb B6. In addition, detailed electronic structure calculations are carried out to shed light on the peculiar elastic properties of Ln B6.The total density of states demonstrates the existence of a pseudogap and indicates lower structure stability of Eu B6 and Yb B6 compared with others.  相似文献

The first-principles calculations are employed to provide a fundamental understanding of the structural features and relative thermodynamical, mechanical and phonon stability of TiAsTe compound. The calculated lattice parameters are in good agreement with available experimental results. We have computed elastic constants, its derived moduli and ratios that characterize mechanical properties for the first time. The calculated elastic constants indicate that these materials are mechanically stable at ambient condition. The minimum thermal conductivities of TiAsTe are calculated using both Clarke’s model and Cahill’s model. Furthermore, the elastic anisotropy has been visualized in detail by plotting the directional dependence of compressibility, Young’s modulus and shear modulus. Our results suggest strong elastic anisotropy for this compound. Additionally, the phonon spectra and phonon density of states are also obtained and discussed. The full phonon dispersion calculations confirm the dynamic stability of TiAsTe.  相似文献
