In this paper, we pursue our analysis of the W1+∞ symmetry of the low-energy edge excitations of incompressible quantum Hall fluids. These excitations are described by (1 + 1)-dimensional effective field theories, which are built by representations of the W1+∞ algebra. Generic W1+∞ theories predict many more fluids than the few, stable ones found in experiments. Here we identify a particular class of W1+∞ theories, the minimal models, which are made of degenerate representations only - a familiar construction in conformal field theory. The W1+∞ minimal models exist for specific values of the fractional Hall conductivity, which nicely fit the experimental data and match the results of the Jain hierarchy of quantum Hall fluids. We thus obtain a new hierarchical construction, which is based uniquely on the concept of quantum incompressible fluid and is independent of Jain's approach and hypotheses. Furthermore, a surprising non-abelian structure is found in the W1+∞ minimal models: they possess neutral quark-like excitations with SU(m) quantum numbers and non-abelian fractional statistics. The physical electron is made of anyon and quark excitations. We discuss some properties of these neutral excitations which could be seen in experiments and numerical simulations.  相似文献

In a previous publication, we claimed that a black hole can be considered as a topological insulator. A direct consequence of this claim is that their symmetries should be related. In this paper, we give a representation of the near-horizon symmetry algebra of the BTZ black hole using the W1+∞ symmetry algebra of the topological insulator in three-dimensional spacetime. Based on the W1+∞ algebra, we count the number of the microstates of the BTZ black holes and obtain the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.  相似文献

We study general perturbations of two-dimensional conformal field theories by holomorphic fields. It is shown that the genus one partition function is controlled by a contact term (pre-Lie) algebra given in terms of the operator product expansion. These models have applications to vertex operator algebras, two-dimensional QCD, topological strings, holomorphic anomaly equations and modular properties of generalized characters of chiral algebras such as the W1+∞ algebra, that is treated in detail.  相似文献

We outline a systematic procedure for constructing a dual resonance model for deep inelastic electroproduction which incorporates locality, current algebra, Regge behaviour, Bjorken scaling and the Dashen — Fubini — Gell-Mann sum rule. We illustrate the procedure in terms of a simple Ansatz for theW 2 electroproduction structure function.  相似文献

Constraining theSL(3) WZW-model we construct a reduced theory which is invariant with respect to the new chiral algebraW 3 2 . This symmetry is generated by the stress-energy tensor, two bosonic currents with spins 3/2 and theU(1) current. We conjecture a Kac formula that describes the highly reducible representation for this algebra. We also discuss the quantum Hamiltonian reduction for the general type of constraints that leads to the new extended conformal algebras.Address after September 1990: Lyman Laboratory, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA 02138, USA  相似文献

We study the possibilities of unraveling the underlying dynamics of the symmetry breaking sector through the scattering of longitudinal weak bosons inpp collisions.W ± Z 0 channels are considered in the context of a general approach based on chiral perturbation theory, supplemented by a unitarization procedure. The channels considered here are the relevant ones for symmetry breaking sector dynamics such as technicolor, where aI=J=1 resonance appears in the spectrum. DirectWZ production from quark annihilation viap tc-W mixing is also considered and compared withWZ production from theWZ fusion mechanism.

In this paper we examine the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the generalized KdV-hierarchies. We verify that both Hamiltonian structures take the form of Kirillov brackets on the Kac-Moody algebra, and that they define a coordinated system. Classical extended conformal algebras are obtained from the second Poisson bracket. In particular, we construct theW n (l) algebras, first discussed for the casen=3 andl=2 by Polyakov and Bershadsky.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct the quantum torus symmetry of the KP hierarchy and further derive the quantum torus constraint on the tau function of the KP hierarchy. That means we give a nice representation of the quantum torus Lie algebra in the KP system by acting on its tau function. Comparing to the W symmetry, this quantum torus symmetry has a nice algebraic structure with double indices. Further by reduction, we also construct the quantum torus symmetries of the KdV and BKP hierarchies and further derive the quantum torus constraints on their tau functions. These quantum torus constraints might have applications in the quantum field theory, supersymmetric gauge theory and so on.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct the noncommutative B and C type KP hierarchies using pseudo-differential operators and reducing conditions. Further a series of additional flows of the noncommutative B and C type KP hierarchies will be defined and the additional symmetries constitute the B and C type infinite dimensional Lie algebra W1+∞. In addition, the generating function of the additional symmetries can also be proved to have a nice form in terms of wave functions. Further, the string equations of the noncommutative B and C type KP hierarchies are derived.  相似文献

By quantizing the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction scheme for arbitrarysl 2 embeddings we show that a large set of quantumW algebras can be viewed as (BRST) cohomologies of affine Lie algebras. The set contains many knownW algebras such asW N andW 3 (2) . Our formalism yields a completely algorithmic method for calculating theW algebra generators and their operator product expansions, replacing the cumbersome construction ofW algebras as commutants of screening operators. By generalizing and quantizing the Miura transformation we show that anyW algebra in can be embedded into the universal enveloping algebra of a semisimple affine Lie algebra which is, up to shifts in level, isomorphic to a subalgebra of the original affine algebra. Thereforeany realization of this semisimple affine Lie algebra leads to a realization of theW algebra. In particular, one obtains in this way a general and explicit method for constructing the free field realizations and Fock resolusions for all algebras in. Some examples are explicitly worked out.  相似文献

In this Letter, we study the spin-3 topologically massive gravity (TMG), paying special attention to its properties at the chiral point. We propose an action describing the higher spin fields coupled to TMG. We discuss the traceless spin-3 fluctuations around the AdS3 vacuum and find that there is an extra local massive mode, besides the left-moving and right-moving boundary massless modes. At the chiral point, such extra mode becomes massless and degenerates with the left-moving mode. We show that at the chiral point the only degrees of freedom in the theory are the boundary right-moving graviton and spin-3 field. We conjecture that spin-3 chiral gravity with generalized Brown-Henneaux boundary condition is holographically dual to 2D chiral CFT with classical W3 algebra and central charge cR=3l/G.  相似文献

We present a self-contained formulation of the Nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy and its Yangian symmetry in terms of deformed oscilator algebra (Z.F. algebra). The link between Yangian Y(gl N) and finite W(gl pN, N.gl p) algebras is also illustrated in this framework.  相似文献

We prove that an irreducible representation of the Virasoro algebra can be extracted from an irreducible representation space of theSL(2, ) current algebra by putting a constraint on the latter using the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin formalism. Thus there is aSL(2, ) symmetry in the Virasoro algebra, but it is gauged and hidden. This construction of the Virasoro algebra is the quantum analogue of the Hamiltonian reduction. We then are naturally lead to consider a constrainedSL(2, ) Wess-Zumino-Witten model. This system is also related to quantum field theory of coadjoint orbit of the Virasoro group. Based on this result, we present a canonical derivation of theSL(2, ) current algebra in Polyakov's theory of two-dimensional gravity; it is a manifestation of theSL(2, ) symmetry in conformal field theory hidden by the quantum Hamiltonian reduction. We also discuss the quantum Hamiltonian reduction of theSL(2, ) current algebra and its relation to theW n -algebra of Zamolodchikov. This makes it possible to define a natural generalization of the geometric action for theW n -algebra despite its non-Lie-algebraic nature. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Vadik G. We discuss the spin-flavor symmetry in the heavy quark limit from the view of theB-S approach and use the potential model to compute the slope of the Isgur-Wise function at zero recoil and predict masses of theB meson doublet withJ p =1+, 2+ to order of 1/M Q .  相似文献

We investigate the Ward identities of theW symmetry in the super-Liouville theory coupled to the super-conformal matter of central charge . The theory is classified into two chiralities. For the positive chirality, all gravitationally dressed scaling operators are generated from theq–1 gravitational primaries by one of the ring generators in the R-sector acting on them repeatedly. After fixing the normalizations of the dressed scaling operators, we find that the Ward identities are expressed in the form of theusual W q algebra constraints as in the bosonic case:W n (k+1) ,=0, (k=1,...,q–1;nZ1–k), where the equations for even and oddn come from the currents in the NS- and the R-sector respectively. The non-linear terms come from the anomalous contributions at the boundaries of moduli space. The negative chirality is defined by interchanging the roles ofp andq. Then we get theW p algebra constraints.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a newN = 6 superconformal algebra which extends the Virasoro algebra by theSO 6 current algebra, by 6 odd primary fields of conformal weight 3/2 and by 10 odd primary fields of conformal weight 1/2. The commutation relations of this algebra, which we will refer to asCK 6, are represented by short distance operator product expansions (OPE). We constructCK 6, as a subalgebra of theSO(6) superconformal algebra K6, thus giving it a natural representation as first order differential operators on the circle withN = 6 extended symmetry. We show thatCK 6 has no nontrivial central extensions. Partially supported by NSC grant 85-2121-M-006-019 of the ROC. Partially supported by NSF grant DMS-9622870.  相似文献

A non-left-right symmetric conformal integrable Toda field theory is constructed. It is found that the conformal algebra for this model is the product of a left chiral Wr+1 algebra and a right chiral Wr+12 algebra. The general classical solution is constructed out of the chiral vectors satisfying the so-called classical exchange algebra. In addition, we derived an explicit Wronskian type solution in relation to the constrained WZNW theory. We also showed that the A limit of this model is precisely the (B2, C1) flow of the standard Toda lattice hierarchy.  相似文献

TheW KP (N) algebra has been identified with the second Hamiltonian structure in theNth Hamiltonian pair of the KP hierarchy. In this Letter, by constructing the Miura map that decomposes the second Hamiltonian structure in theNth pair of the KP hierarchy, we show thatW KP (N) can also be decomposed toN independent copies ofW KP (1) algebras, therefore its free-field realization can be worked out by constructing free fields for each copy ofW KP (1) . In this way, the free fields may consist ofN + 2n number of bosons, among them, 2n are in pairs, wheren is an arbitrary integer between 1 andN. We also express the currents ofW KP (N) in terms of the currents ofNn copies of U(1) andn copies of SL(2,R) k algebras with levelk = 1. By reductions, we give similar results forW (N) andW 3 (2) algebra.  相似文献
