We give a criterion for the nonpositive sectional curvature of -complexes. As a consequence, we show that certain -complexes have locally indicable, coherent and even locally quasiconvex fundamental groups.

Let (M, ) be an R-contact manifold, then the set of periodic points of the characteristic vector field is a nonempty union of closed, totally geodesic odd-dimensional submanifolds. We exhibit 3-generator Artin groups which have finite two-dimensional Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces, but which do not act properly discontinuously by semi-simple isometries on a two-dimensional CAT(0) complex. We prove that infinitely many of these groups are the fundamental groups of compact, non-positively curved 3-complexes. These examples show that the geometric dimension of a CAT(0) group may be strictly less than its CAT(0) dimension.  相似文献

We derive and study necessary and sufficient conditions for an -bundle to admit an invariant metric of positive or nonnegative sectional curvature. In case the total space has an invariant metric of nonnegative curvature and the base space is odd dimensional, we prove that the total space contains a flat totally geodesic immersed cylinder. We provide several examples, including a connection metric of nonnegative curvature on the trivial bundle that is not a product metric.

This paper is intended to provide concrete examples of concepts discussed elsewhere in this volume, especially splittings of groups and nonpositively curved cube complexes but also other things. The idea of the construction (configuration spaces) is not new, but this family of examples does not seem to be well known. The Weyl curvature is one of the fundamental quantities in Finsler geometry because it is a projective invariant. By determining the Weyl curvature of a class of Finsler metrics, we find a lot of Finsler metrics of quadratic Weyl curvature which are non-trivial in the sense that they are not of quadratic Riemann curvature.  相似文献

The Weyl curvature of a Finsler metric is investigated. This curvature constructed from Riemannain curvature. It is an important projective invariant of Finsler metrics. The author gives the necessary conditions on Weyl curvature for a Finsler metric to be Randers metric and presents examples of Randers metrics with non-scalar curvature. A global rigidity theorem for compact Finsler manifolds satisfying such conditions is proved. It is showed that for such a Finsler manifold,if Ricci scalar is negative,then Finsler metric is of Randers type.  相似文献

We get an explicit expression of curvature operators in terms of at most eight terms of sectional curvatures. Some applications of this result are also given, particularly we improve a result of Chen-Tian related to the first Chern class of admissible surfaces in pinched manifolds.
