The complex ionic network of 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium trifluoroacetate was simulated by means of the molecular dynamics methods over a time period of 100 ns. The influence of the anisotropy of the shape and charge distribution of both the cations and the anions on the local (molecular) and global (collective) structure and dynamics is analyzed. The distance-dependent g coefficients of the orientational probability function g(r,Omega) were found to be an excellent way to interpret local structure. Thereby, the combination and interrelation of individual g coefficients elucidate the mutual orientation. Dynamics at the molecular level is characterized by the time correlation function of the center-of-mass corrected molecular dipole moment mucm. Upon uniting the set of molecular dipoles to a single collective rotational dipole moment, MD, dynamics on a global level is studied. Decomposing into subsets of cations and anions respective self terms as well as the prominent cross term can be extracted. This decomposition also enables a detailed peak assignment in dielectric spectra.  相似文献

This work reports for the first time the computational, frequency-dependent dielectric spectrum of the polarizable molecular ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium triflate as well as its experimental analogue. In the frequency range from 500 MHz up to 20 GHz the agreement between the computational and the experimental spectrum is quantitative. For higher frequencies up to 10 THz the agreement is still remarkably good. The experimental asymptotic limit ε(∞) is 2.3. The difference in the computational value of 1.9 comes solely from the neglect of polarizability of the hydrogen atoms. For reasons of efficiency the simulations are based on the Lagrangian algorithm for the Drude oscillator model which cannot handle polarizable hydrogens. In the computational analysis the complete spectrum of the generalized dielectric constant ∑(0)*(ν) is splitted into its translational and non-translational components, called dielectric conductivity ?(0)(ν) and dielectric permittivity ε(ν). For 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium triflate both components contribute with equal weight and overlap in the complete frequency range. The inclusion of polarization forces, however, is quite different for the two components: the collective non-translational dynamics is accelerated and hence the dielectric permittivity is shifted to higher frequencies. The low frequency region of the dielectric conductivity is also affected while its high frequency part remains almost unchanged. Inductive effects are not only visible at high frequencies but also contribute in the sub-GHz region. The computational peak found in this region correlates with the experimental OKE-spectrum. It may be interpreted as the correlation between the induced dipole moment of the cations and the local electric field exerted by the anionic cage.  相似文献

The Drude oscillator model is applied to the molecular ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium triflate. The range of manageable Drude charges is tested. The strength of the polarizability is systematically varied from 0% to 100%. The influence on the structure, single particle dynamics, and collective dielectric properties is investigated. The generalized dielectric constant can be decomposed into a dielectric permittivity, a dielectric conductivity, and an optical dielectric constant ?(∞). The major part of the static generalized dielectric constant comes from the collective rotation of the ions, i.e., the dielectric permittivity. The translational contribution from the dielectric conductivity is about 58% of the dielectric permittivity. For the evaluation of the optical dielectric contribution, the computational dielectric theory was adapted to the case of heterogeneous polarizabilities. In case of 100% polarizability, it reaches a value of approximately 2.  相似文献

We report the quality anisotropic intermolecular vibrational spectra within the frequency range 0.5-800 cm(-1) of four C(3v) CXY(3) molecular liquids, CHCl(3), CHBr(3), CFBr(3), and CBrCl(3), by means of femtosecond optical-heterodyne-detected Raman-induced Kerr effect spectroscopy. The results show that the first moment of the intermolecular vibrational spectrum is proportional to the square root of the value of the surface tension divided by the liquid density. This implies that the intermolecular vibrational spectrum reflects the bulk properties of the liquids. To understand the molecular-level aspects of the intermolecular vibrational spectra of the liquids, the spectra are compared with the molecular properties such as molecular weight, rotational constants, and bimolecular interaction energy. Overall, the first moment of the spectrum moderately correlates to the inverse square roots of both the molecular weight and the fast rotational constant. Therefore, the molecular properties are responsible for the intermolecular vibrational spectrum. Plots of the first moment of the intermolecular vibrational spectrum vs the square root of the value of the simple bimolecular interaction energy divided by the molecular surface area and the molecular weight show a linear correlation in the case of the oblate symmetric top molecular liquids, CHCl(3), CHBr(3), and CFBr(3). However, CBrCl(3), which is a prolate symmetric top molecular liquid, does not show the same correlation for the oblate molecular liquids.  相似文献

The ionic liquids BMIM+I-, BMIM+BF4-, and BMIM+PF6- were simulated by means of the molecular dynamics method over a time period of more than 100 ns. Besides the common structural analysis, e.g., radial distribution functions and three dimensional occupancy plots, a more sophisticated orientational analysis was performed. The angular correlation functions g(00)110(r) and g(00)101(r) are the first distance dependent coefficients of the pairwise orientational distribution function g(rij,Omega1,Omega2,Omega12). These functions help to interpret the three dimensional plot and reveal interesting insights into the local structure of the analyzed ionic liquids. Furthermore, the collective network of ionic liquids can be characterized by the Kirkwood factor Gkappa(r) [J. Chem. Phys. 7, 911 (1939)]. The short-range behavior (r<10 A) of this factor may be suitable to predict the water miscibility of the ionic liquid. The long-range limit of Gkinfinity is below 1 which demonstrates the strongly coupled nature of the ionic liquid networks. In addition, this factor relates the orientational structure and the dielectric properties of the ionic liquids. The static dielectric constant epsilon(omega=0) for the simulated system is 8.9-9.5. Since in ionic liquids the very same molecule contributes to the total dipole moment as well as carries a net charge, a small, but significant contribution of the cross term between the total dipole moment and the electric current to epsilon(omega=0) is observed.  相似文献

The ultrafast dynamics, including the intermolecular vibrations and the diffusive orientational dynamics, of the neat C(s) symmetry condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids benzofuran, 1-fluoronaphtalene, and quinoline were investigated for the first time by means of femtosecond Raman-induced Kerr effect spectroscopy. To understand the features of these C(s) condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids, reference singular aromatic molecular liquids, furan, fluorobenzene, pyridine, and benzene, were also studied. High quality low-frequency Kerr spectra of the aromatic molecular liquids were obtained by Fourier-transform deconvolution analysis of the measured Kerr transients. The Kerr spectra of the C(s) condensed ring aromatic molecular liquids are bimodal, as are those of the reference singular aromatic molecular liquids. The first moment of the intermolecular vibrational spectrum and the peak frequencies of the high- and low-frequency components in the broad spectrum band were compared with their molecular properties such as the rotational constants, molecular weight, and intermolecular (bimolecular) force. The comparisons show that the molecular volume (related to molecular weight and rotational constants) is a dominant property for the characteristic frequency of the entire intermolecular vibrational spectrum. The observed intramolecular vibrational modes in the Kerr spectra of the aromatic molecular liquids were also assigned on the basis of the ab initio quantum chemical calculation results. In their picosecond diffusive orientational dynamics, the slowest relaxation time constant for both the condensed ring and singular aromatic molecular liquids can be accounted for by the simple Stokes-Einstein-Debye hydrodynamic model.  相似文献

The aim of this study is the analysis of the rotational motion in ionic liquids, in particular, 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate. By comparing single-particle and collective motion it is found that the Madden-Kivelson relation is fairly fulfilled in long-term simulation studies (>100 ns), i.e., the collective reorientation can be predicted by the corresponding single-particle property and the static dipolar correlation factor, GK. Furthermore, simulated reorientation is in accordance with hydrodynamic theories yielding hydrodynamic radii comparable to van der Waals radii. Since viscosity is the central quantity entering hydrodynamic formulas, we calculated and measured the viscosity of our system in order to have two independent cycles of hydrodynamic evaluation, a computational and an experimental one. While the static dielectric constant agrees with dielectric reflectance experiment, the hydrodynamic radii derived from the experiments are much lower as a consequence of enhanced rotational motion. Even more, a considerable dynamic broadening is observed in the experiments.  相似文献

Thermal Z to E isomerization reactions of azobenzene and 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitroazobenzene were examined in three ionic liquids of general formula 1-R-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (R = butyl, pentyl, and hexyl). The first-order rate constants and activation energies for the reactions of azobenzene measured in these ionic liquids were consistent with those measured in ordinary organic solvents, which indicated that the slow isomerization through the inversion mechanism with a nonpolar transition state was little influenced by the solvent properties, such as the viscosity and dielectric constant, of ionic liquids. On the other hand, the rate constants and the corresponding frequency factors of the Arrhenius plot were significantly reduced for the isomerization of 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitroazobenzene in ionic liquids compared with those for the isomerization in ordinary organic molecular solvents with similar dielectric properties. Although these ionic liquids are viscous, the apparent viscosity dependence of the rate constant could not be explained either by the Kramers-Grote-Hynes model or by the Agmon-Hopfield model for solution reactions. It is proposed that the positive and the negative charge centers of a highly polar rotational transition state are stabilized by the surrounding anions and cations, respectively, and that the ions must be rearranged so as to form highly ordered solvation shells around the charge centers of the reactant in the transition state. This requirement for the orderly solvation in the transition state results in unusually small frequency factors of 10(4)-10(7) s(-1).  相似文献

In this work, the collective structure of aqueous solutions of ionic liquids was studied by means of molecular dynamics simulations. Various concentrations of 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate and TIP3P water were simulated at the very same size of the simulation box. For the analysis, the ternary system cation/anion/water was subdivided into binary networks. The local structure of each of these six networks is investigated by atom-atom radial distribution functions as well as by the so-called g coefficients, which reveal the mutual orientation of the network constituting partners. Furthermore, the collective structure of the whole samples was characterized by the contribution of each species to the static dielectric constant epsilon(omega=0) and to the Kirkwood G(K) factor. The combination of the analysis tools mentioned above provides knowledge about the cross-linking of the ionic species with the dipolar water. Thereby, the interplay between charge-charge and hydrogen bond networks is analyzed in detail.  相似文献

Herein, we present a combined experimental and computational study of liquid phenyltrimethoxysilane. A femtosecond time-resolved optical Kerr effect experiment has been performed to study the rotational diffusion of the molecule. A new all-atoms molecular model of the compound, based on the OPLS force field, has been developed to reproduce the rotational diffusion time constant and other physical and dynamic properties available in the literature. The density obtained from the simulations is 1074 ± 4 kg m(-3), which is within 1% of the experimental value of 1062 kg m(-3). The viscosity from the simulations is 1.6 ± 0.1 mPa s while the experimental value is 2.1 mPa s. The average bulk dipole moment of 1.8 ± 0.5 Debye obtained from the simulation matches the experimental value of 1.77 Debye. The average relative dielectric constant from the simulations is 3.86 ± 0.04, which is within 13% of the experimental value (4.4). The rotational diffusion time of the dipole moment obtained from the simulations is 20.39 ± 0.06 ps, which is in excellent agreement with the experimental value of 20 ± 1 ps obtained from our measurements. The new model has also been used to calculate structural and dynamic properties of the molecule not yet determined experimentally.  相似文献

We have measured the dielectric relaxation of several glass forming branched alkanes with very low dielectric loss in the frequency range 50 Hz-20 kHz. The molecular liquids of this study are 3-methylpentane, 3-methylheptane, 4-methylheptane, 2,3-dimethylpentane, and 2,4,6-trimethylheptane. All liquids display asymmetric loss peaks typical of supercooled liquids and slow beta relaxations of similar amplitudes. As an unusual feature, deliberate doping with 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, 5-methyl-2-hexanol, 2-methyl-1-butanol, 1-propanol, or 2-methyltetrahydrofuran at the 1 wt % level generates additional relaxation peaks at frequencies below those of the alpha relaxation. The relaxation times of these sub-alpha-peaks increase systematically with the size of the dopant molecules. Because these features are spectrally separate from the bulk dynamics, the rotational behavior and effective dipole moments of the probes can be studied in detail. For the alcohol guest molecules, the large relative rotational time scales and small effective dipole moments are indicative of hydrogen bonded clusters instead of individual molecules.  相似文献

Ab initio molecular orbital theory is used to estimate the rotational constant for several carbon-chain molecules that are candidates for discovery in interstellar space. These estimated rotational constants can be used in laboratory or astronomical searches for the molecules. The rotational constant for HC13N is estimated to be 0.1073 +/- 0.0002 GHz and its dipole moment 5.4 D. The rotational constant for HC15N is estimated to be 0.0724 GHz, with a somewhat larger uncertainty. The rotational constant of C5O is estimated to be 1.360 +/- 2% GHz and its dipole moment 4.4. Time-resolved fluorescence spectra and fluorescence anisotropy decay of 2-aminoquinoline (2AQ) have been measured in eight room-temperature ionic liquids, including five imidazolium-based aromatic ionic liquids and three nonaromatic ionic liquids. The same experiments have also been carried out in several ordinary molecular liquids for comparison. The observed time-resolved fluorescence spectra indicate the formation of pi-pi aromatic complexes of 2AQ in some of the aromatic ionic liquids but not in the nonaromatic ionic liquids. The fluorescence anisotropy decay data show unusually slow rotational diffusion of 2AQ in the aromatic ionic liquids, suggesting the formation of solute-solvent complexes. The probe 2AQ molecule is likely to be incorporated in the possible local structure of ionic liquids, and hence the anisotropy decays only through the rotation of the whole local structure, making the apparent rotational diffusion of 2AQ slow. The rotational diffusion time decreases rapidly by adding a small amount of acetonitrile to the solution. This observation is interpreted in terms of the local structure formation in the aromatic ionic liquids and its destruction by acetonitrile. No unusual behavior upon addition of acetonitrile has been found for the nonaromatic ionic liquids. It is argued that the aromaticity of the imidazolium cation plays a key role in the local structure formation in imidazolium-based ionic liquids.  相似文献

This work presents first insights into the structural properties of a binary mixture of ionic liquids from the perspective of ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Simulations were carried out for a one-to-one mixture of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium thiocyanate and 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride and compared to pure 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium thiocyanate.  相似文献

We have measured the dielectric relaxation of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) as a rotational probe in supercooled ortho-terphenyl (OTP). Due to the significant dipole moment of TEMPO compared with OTP, its contribution to the loss spectra can be identified already at moderate concentrations. For time scales ranging from 10 μs to 1 s, it is found that the tumbling mode of TEMPO is a true replica of the structural relaxation of OTP regarding average time constant, relaxation time dispersion, and the temperature dependence. While the present dielectric results are consistent with a decoupling of a spinning mode (about the nitroxyl dipole axis) of TEMPO from viscosity, they do not agree with the strong decoupling of the tumbling mode derived from electron spin resonance experiments.  相似文献

We have measured the terahertz (THz) complex dielectric spectra of imidazolium ionic liquids by THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) in the frequency range from 5 (0.15 THz) to 140 cm(-1) (4.2 THz). The ionic liquids investigated are 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium (EMIm+)/trifluoromethanesulfonate (TfO-), EMIm+/tetrafluoroborate (BF(4)-), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium (BMIm+)/TfO-, and BMIm+/BF(4)-. The dielectric values of the ionic liquids in the THz region are similar to those of short-chain alcohols. The THz dielectric values are related to subpicosecond-to-picosecond dynamics. The same trend has been observed in the empirical polarity ET(30) although it is related to the static characteristics of polarity and hydrogen bonding ability. A difference between the two types of liquids is observed in the THz dielectric spectral shapes: the ionic liquids show structured lineshapes but short-chain alcohols show much less structured ones. The structured lineshapes of the ionic liquids reflect the low-frequency motions of interion and/or intramolecular vibrations. When the ionic liquids composed of the different imidazolium cations contain the same anions as counterions, their density-normalized THz dielectric spectra above 20 cm(-1) bear strong resemblance to each other in shape and magnitude. It shows clearly that the THz spectra do not originate from the intramolecular vibrations of the imodazolium cations. All of the intramolecular vibrations of the anions are located above 140 cm(-1) except the CF3-SO3 torsion of TfO-, the band of which alone cannot explain the broad THz dielectric spectra of the ionic liquids. Therefore, we conclude that the interion vibrations rather than the intramolecular vibrations dominantly contribute to the THz dielectric spectra. The results strongly indicate that even in the liquid phase the ionic liquids have local structures similar to their solid-phase structures.  相似文献

Contribution to understanding of the molecular dynamics in liquids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The dielectric relaxation spectroscopy is used for studying the orientational molecular dynamics in the isotropic (I) and nematic (N) phases of two mesogenic liquids composed of the molecules of similar structure and length, but of an essentially different polarity: n-heptylcyanobiphenyl, C(7)H(15)PhPhCN, 7CB (molecular dipole moment mu approximately 5D) and 4-(trans-4'-n-hexylcyclohexyl)isothiocyanatobenzene, C(6)H(13)CyHxPhNCS, 6CHBT (mu approximately 2.5D); advantageously, the temperatures of the I-N phase transition for the two compounds are very close to each other (T(NI) = 316.6 +/- 0.2 K). It is shown that regardless of the differences in polarity of 7CB and 6CHBT molecules and their abilities in dipolar aggregation, the values and temperature dependences of the relaxation time (corresponding to the rotational diffusion of the molecules around their short axis) are very close to each other, in both the isotropic and nematic phases of the liquids studied. Therefore, the data show that the dielectric relaxation processes occurring in dipolar liquids in the isotropic and nematic states lead through the rotational diffusion of individual molecules and the diffusion seems to be not influenced by the intermolecular interactions.  相似文献

Atomistic molecular dynamics simulations were performed on 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium azide [bmim][N(3)], 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium azide [bmmim][N(3)], and 1-butynyl-3-methyl-imidazolium azide [bumim][N(3)] ionic liquids. The many-body polarizable APPLE&P force field was augmented with parameters for the azide anion and the bumim cation. Good agreement between the experimentally determined and simulated crystal structure of [bumim][N(3)] as well as the liquid-state density and ionic conductivity of [bmmim][N(3)] were found. Methylation of bmim (yielding bmmim) resulted in dramatic changes in ion structuring in the liquid and slowing of ion motion. Conversely, replacing the butyl group of bmim with the smaller 2-butynyl group resulted in an increase of ion dynamics.  相似文献

The contact between minor amounts of SO2 and crystalline 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium bromide (BMIBr) causes the almost immediate melting of the ionic liquid (mp 45 degrees C) as well as a dramatic decrease in its viscosity in comparison to the pure molten phase. The same behavior was observed for other halide ionic liquids of higher melting points (70, 135, and 220 degrees C). The Raman spectrum of BMIBr-SO2 clearly indicates a specific charge transfer interaction involving SO2 and the halide. The measurements of ionic conductivity and diffusion coefficients obtained for the neat BMIBr (molten phase) and for the BMIBr-SO2 strongly suggest a higher degree of ionic association in the presence of SO2. Molecular dynamic simulations indicate that although the cation-anion distance is preserved in the short range, there is a variation in the interionic distances in the second shell, leading to a less organized structure in the long range. The modulation of the structural and physical properties of ionic liquids by SO2 and the convenient choice of the ions for gas absorption are suggested.  相似文献
