We report here the synthesis via Suzuki polymerization of two novel alternating polymers containing 9,9‐dioctylfluorene and electron‐withdrawing 4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole moieties, poly[(4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole‐5,5′‐diyl)‐alt‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)] (PHBTzF) and poly[(5,5′‐bis(2″‐thienyl)‐4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole‐5″,5″‐diyl)‐alt‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)] (PTHBTzTF), and their application to electronic devices. The ultraviolet–visible absorption maxima of films of PHBTzF and PTHBTzTF were 413 and 471 nm, respectively, and the photoluminescence maxima were 513 and 590 nm, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry experiment showed an improvement in the n‐doping stability of the polymers and a reduction of their lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels as a result of bithiazole in the polymers' main chain. The highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels of the polymers were ?5.85 eV for PHBTzF and ?5.53 eV for PTHBTzTF. Conventional polymeric light‐emitting‐diode devices were fabricated in the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al configuration [where ITO is indium tin oxide and PEDOT:PSS is poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonic acid)] with the two polymers as emitting layers. The PHBTzF device exhibited a maximum luminance of 210 cd/m2 and a turn‐on voltage of 9.4 V, whereas the PTHBTzTF device exhibited a maximum luminance of 1840 cd/m2 and a turn‐on voltage of 5.4 V. In addition, a preliminary organic solar‐cell device with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/(PTHBTzTF + C60)/Ca/Al configuration (where C60 is fullerene) was also fabricated. Under 100 mW/cm2 of air mass 1.5 white‐light illumination, the device produced an open‐circuit voltage of 0.76 V and a short‐circuit current of 1.70 mA/cm2. The fill factor of the device was 0.40, and the power conversion efficiency was 0.52%. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 1845–1857, 2005  相似文献

To study the effect of nonconjugation on polymeric and photophysical properties of thiophene‐containing polymers, new light‐emitting copolymers comprising either alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and vinylene or alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and aliphatic ether segments were synthesized. Both copolymers contained 2,5‐diphenylthiophene as the major chromophore and emitted a sky bluish fluorescence in dilute solution (10?2 mg/mL). With a rigid and planarity structure and the concomitant crystallinity, the former copolymer (fully conjugated) possessed a higher quantum efficiency, a higher glass‐transition temperature, and a better thermal stability. In contrast, the latter copolymer (conjugated–nonconjugated) had better solubility and provided enhanced photophysical properties for the fabricated polymeric light‐emitting diode (PLED) device: at 15 V, the maximum current and brightness were 110 mA/cm2 and 4289 cd/m2, respectively, and the electroluminescence efficiency remained constant at approximately 4.9 cd/A in a voltage range of 8 to 14 V. The existence of intramolecular/intermolecular aggregates in the latter copolymer was corroborated from the the UV–vis and photoluminescence spectra of its solutions. With an increase in solution concentration, the shape and λmax of the photoluminescence spectrum were redshifted. In a solution with a concentration as high as 10 mg/mL, the redshift was so drastic that the photoluminescence spectrum was nearly identical to that of a solid‐film. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conjugated polymers containing electron‐transporting, hole‐transporting, and blue light‐emitting units were synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation. These copolymers exhibited excellent thermal and optical stability. Optical investigation indicated that the incorporation of the spirobifluorene units in the polymer main chain could markedly increase the effective conjugation length of polymers. Electrochemical studies showed that the incorporation of spirobifluorene unit could raise the electrochemical stability and improve the electron‐ and hole‐injecting abilities. The electroluminescent results also showed that the introducing of spirobifluorene units could significantly improve the device performance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An investigation into the preparation of poly(9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazole‐3,6‐diyl)s with palladium catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions of 3‐halo‐6‐halomagnesio‐9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazoles, generated in situ from their corresponding 3,6‐diiodo‐ and 3,6‐dibromo‐derivatives was undertaken. Monomers with a range of alkyl group substituents with different steric requirements were investigated and their effects on the polymerization were studied. The effects of the nature of halogen substituents on the polymerization reaction were also investigated. Structural analysis of the polymers revealed exclusive 3,6‐linkage between consecutive carbazole repeat units on the polymer chains. The physical properties of these polymers were investigated with spectroscopic, thermal gravimetric analysis, and electrochemical studies. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Supramolecular polyfluorenol enable assembly into conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs). Poly{9‐[4‐(octyloxy)phenyl]fluoren‐9‐ol‐2,7‐diyl} (PPFOH)‐based supramolecular nanoparticles are prepared via reprecipitation. PPFOH nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 40 to 200 nm are obtained by adding different amounts of water into DMF solution. Size‐dependent luminescence is observed in PPFOH‐based hydrogen‐bonded nanoparticles that is different from that of poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorenes). Finally, white light‐emitting devices using CPNs with a size of 80 nm exhibit white emission with the CIE coordinates (0.31, 0.34). Amphiphilic conjugated polymer nanoparticles are potential organic nano‐inks for the fabrication of organic devices in printed electronics.

Two series of poly(2,3‐diphenyl‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene) (DP‐PPV) derivatives containing multiple bulky substituents were synthesized. In the first series, two different groups were incorporated on C‐5,6 positions of the phenylene moiety to increase steric hindrance and to obtain blue‐shifted emissions. In the second series, bulky fluorenyl groups with two hexyl chains on the C‐9 position were introduced on two phenyl pendants to increase the solubility as well as steric hindrance to prevent close packing of the main chain. Polymers with high molecular weights and fine‐tuned electro‐optical properties were obtained by controlling the feed ratio of different monomers during polymerization. The maximum photoluminescent emissions of the thin films are located between 384 and 541 nm. Cyclic voltammetric analysis reveals that the band gaps of these light‐emitting materials are in the range from 2.4 to 3.3 eV. A double‐layer EL device with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT/P4/Ca/Al emitted pure green light with CIE′1931 at (0.24, 0.5). Using copolymer P6 as the emissive layer, the maximum luminescence and current efficiency were both improved when compared with the homopolymer P4. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of triarylamine N‐functionalized 3,6‐linked carbazole homopolymers as well as alternating copolymers with 2,5‐diphenyl‐[1,3,4]oxadiazole and benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole was undertaken using Suzuki cross‐coupling polymerization procedures associating 3,6‐bis(4,4,5,5‐tetramethyl‐[1,3,2]dioxaborolan‐2‐yl)‐9‐(bis[4‐(2‐butyl‐octyloxy)‐phenyl]‐amino‐phen‐4‐yl)‐carbazole and, respectively, 3,6‐dibromo‐9‐(bis[4‐(2‐butyl‐octyloxy)‐phenyl]‐amino‐phen‐4‐yl)‐carbazole, 2,5‐bis(4‐bromo‐phenyl)‐[1, 3,4]oxadiazole, and 4,7‐dibromo‐benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole. Both the carbazole homopolymer and alternating copolymer with 2,5‐diphenyl‐[1,3,4]oxadiazole were found as wideband gap materials emitting in the blue part of the electromagnetic spectrum while the carbazole alternating copolymer with 4,7‐benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole had a narrower band gap and emitted in the orange part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The new polymers are thermally stable up to 300 °C. A discussion of the electrochemical and optical properties of the new polymers is presented. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of fluorene‐based copolymers composed of blue‐ and orange‐light‐emitting comonomers were synthesized through palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reactions. 9,9‐Dihexylfluorene and 2‐(2,6‐bis‐{2‐[1‐(9,9‐dihexyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinolin‐6‐yl]‐vinyl}‐pyran‐4‐ylidene)‐malononitrile (DCMF) were used as the blue‐ and orange‐light‐emitting chromophores, respectively. The resulting single polymers exhibited simultaneous blue (423/450 nm) and orange (580–600 nm) emissions from these two chromophores. By adjusting the fluorene and DCMF contents, white light emission could be obtained from a single polymer; a device with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al configuration was found to exhibit pure white electroluminescence with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.31), a maximum brightness of 1180 cd/m2, and a current efficiency of 0.60 cd/A. Furthermore, the white light emission of this device was found to be very stable with respect to variation of the driving voltage. The CIE coordinates of the device were (0.32, 0.29), (0.32, 0.29), and (0.33, 0.31) for driving voltages of 7, 8, and 10 V, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soluble yellow/orange‐emitting poly[tris(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)] derivatives ( 6 ) were synthesized and characterized. These polymers contained oligo(p‐phenylene vinylene) chromophores of equal conjugation length, which were jointed via a common m‐phenylene unit. An optical comparison of 6 and its model compound ( 8 ) at room temperature and low temperatures revealed the similarity in their absorption and fluorescence band structures. The vibronic band structure of 6 was assigned with the aid of the spectroscopic data for 8 at the low temperatures. 6 was electroluminescent and had an emission maximum wavelength at approximately 565 nm. With the device indium tin oxide/PEDOT/ 6 /Ca configuration, the polymer exhibited an external quantum efficiency as high as 0.25%. Simple substitution on m‐phenylene of 6 raised the electroluminescence output by a factor of about 10. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5853–5862, 2004  相似文献

New electroluminescent polymers (poly(9,9′‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐co‐benzo[2,3,5]thiadiazole) ( P1) and poly(9,9′‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐co‐benzo[2,3,5]thiadiazole‐co‐[4‐(2‐ethylhexyloxyl)phenyl]diphenylamine ( P2) ) possess hole‐transporting or electron‐transporting units or both in the main chains. Electron‐deficient benzothiadiazole and electron‐rich triphenylamine moieties were incorporated into the polymer backbone to improve the electron‐transporting and hole‐transporting characteristics, respectively. P1 and P2 show greater solubility than poly(9,9′‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene ( PFTT ), without sacrificing their good thermal stability. Moreover, owing to the incorporation of the electron‐deficient benzothiadiazole unit, P1 and P2 exhibit remarkably lower LUMO levels than PFTT , and thus, it should facilitate the electron injection into the polymer layer from the cathode electrode. Consequently, because of the balance of charge mobility, LED devices based on P1 and P2 exhibit greater brightness and efficiency (up to 3000 cd/m2 and 1.35 cd/A) than devices that use the pristine PFTT . © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of thiophene‐containing photoactive copolymers consisting of alternating conjugated and nonconjugated segments were synthesized. The 1H NMR spectra corroborated the well‐defined structures, and the copolymers not only were soluble in common organic solvents but also had high glass‐transition temperatures (ca. 130 °C) and good thermal stability up to 390 °C. Introducing aliphatic functional groups, such as alkyl or alkoxyl, into chromophores of the copolymers redshifted the photoluminescence spectra and lowered the optical bandgaps. The electrochemical bandgaps calculated from cyclic voltammetry agreed with the optical bandgaps and thus indicated that electroluminescence and photoluminescence originated from the same excited state. The energy levels (highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) of all the copolymers were lower than those of poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1.4‐phenylenevinylene] MEH–PPV, indicating balanced hole and electron injection, which led to improved performance in both single‐layer and double‐layer polymeric‐light‐emitting‐diode devices fabricated with these copolymers. All the copolymers emitted bluish‐green or green light above the threshold bias of 5.0 V under ambient conditions. At the maximum bias of 10 V, the electroluminescence of a device made of poly(2‐{4‐[2‐(3‐ethoxy phenyl)ethylene]phenyl}‐5‐{4‐[2‐(3‐ethoxy,4‐1,8‐octanedioxy phenyl)ethylene]phenyl}thiophene) was 5836 cd/m2. The external electroluminescence efficiency decreased with the lifetime as the polymer degraded. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 3954–3966, 2004  相似文献

Blue‐emitting poly{[5‐(diphenylamino)‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene]‐alt‐(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)} ( 3 ), poly{[5‐bis‐(4‐butyl‐phenylamino)‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene]‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylene vinylene)} ( 4 ), and poly(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene) ( 5 ) were synthesized by the Wittig–Horner reaction. Although polymers 3–5 possess fluorescent quantum yields of only 13–34% in tetrahydrofuran solution, their films appear to be highly luminescent. Attachments of substituents tuned the emission color of thin films to the desirable blue region (λmax = 462–477 nm). Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices with 3 and 5 as an emissive layer produced blue emission (λem = 474 and 477 nm) with turn‐on voltages of 8 and 11 V, respectively. The external quantum efficiencies were up to 0.13%. © 2005Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 2800–2809, 2005  相似文献

Copolymers containing oligo(phenylene vinylene) (2.5), fluorene, and 4,4‐dihexyldithienosilole (DTS) units were synthesized and characterized. The π‐conjugated monomers were joined with the palladium(0)‐catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction, thus forming either biphenyl– or phenyl–thiophene linkages. These polymers were photoluminescent, with the fluorescent quantum efficiency between 54 and 63% and with λmax for fluorescence at ~448 nm in tetrahydrofuran. The presence of 5% DTS in the copolymers had little influence on the optical absorption and emission wavelengths. Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices using these polymers as emissive layers had low turn‐on voltages (3.5–4 V) and moderate external quantum efficiencies (0.14–0.30%). The results show that DTS plays a positive role in improving the charge‐injection characteristics of poly(phenylene vinylene) materials. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new hyperbranched ( P1 ) and linear copolyfluorene ( P2 ) were prepared from 2,4,7‐trifunctional (branching) and 2,7‐bifunctional fluorene monomer, respectively, by the Wittig reaction, followed with end‐capping by aromatic oxadiazole groups, to study the effect of hyperbranch structure. The weight‐average molecular weights (Mw) of P1 and P2 , determined by gel permeation chromatography using polystyrene as standard, were 33,000 and 25,700, respectively. The polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents and exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 400 °C). Optical properties, both in solution and film state, were investigated using absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. In film state, the absorption and PL spectra peaked at 401–425 nm and 480–495 nm, respectively. The P1 showed energy funnel effect and enhanced fluorescence efficiency owing to hyperbranched structure and terminal oxadiazole groups. The HOMO and LUMO levels of P1 ( P2) , estimated from cyclic voltammograms, are ?5.34 (?5.25) eV and ?2.94 (?2.94) eV, respectively. Two‐layer polymer light‐emitting diodes devices (ITO/PEDOT/ P1 /Ca/Al) exhibited maximal luminance and luminous efficiency of 3630 cd/m2 and 0.78 cd/A, respectively, which are superior to its linear counterpart P2 (598 cd/m2, 0.11 cd/A). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four copolyfluorenes chemically doped with 0.1 and 1 mol % 3,7‐bis[2‐thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]phenothiazine ( PFPhT ) or 2,5‐bis[2‐(thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]thiophene chromophores ( PFThT ) were synthesized using the Suzuki coupling reaction and applied in white‐light‐emitting devices. They were characterized by GPC, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, optical spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. They exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 420 °C) and moderate glass transition temperatures (>95 °C). The PhT‐Br and ThT‐Br showed PL peaks at 586 and 522 nm (with a shoulder at 550 nm). In film state, PL spectra of the copolymers comprised emissions from the fluorene segments and the chromophores due to incomplete energy transfer. Both monomers exhibited low LUMO levels around ?3.50 to ?3.59 eV, whereas the PhT‐Br owned the higher HOMO level (?5.16 eV) due to its electron‐donating phenothiazine core. Light‐emitting diodes with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/copolymer/Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm) showed broad emission depending on the chromophore contents. The maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency of PFPhT2 ( PFThT1 ) device were 8690 cd/m2 and 1.43 cd/A (7060 cd/m2 and 0.98 cd/A), respectively. White‐light emission was realized by further blending PFPhT2 with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) (w/w = 10/1), with the maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency being 10,600 cd/m2 and 1.85 cd/A. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolyfluorenes ( PFR1 and PFR2 ), chemically doped with 0.1 and 0.025 mol % 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐bis(2‐thienyl‐2‐cyanovinyl)benzene (MR chromophere) were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction. The PFR s were used to fabricate white‐light‐emitting devices through incomplete energy transfer. Because of the low content of the MR chromophore, the optical, thermal, and electrochemical properties of the PFR s were almost identical to those of polyfluorene, except for their photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties. The copolymer films showed PL peaks at about 428 and 570 nm originating from fluorene segments and MR chromophores, respectively. Compared with the model compound ( MR ), the polymer chains extended the conjugation length of the MR chromophores and exhibited a 20–48 nm red‐shift in the emission band. In addition, the lower LUMO level of the MR (?3.27 eV) was expected to improve the electron injection. The EL devices [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ PFR s/Ca (50 nm)/Al (100 nm)] showed a broad emission band, covering the entire visible region, with chromaticity coordinates of (0.36, 0.35) and (0.32, 0.30) for PFR1 and PFR2 devices, respectively. The emission color of the PFR2 device was very similar to that of a pure white light (0.33, 0.33); and the maximal brightness and current efficiency were 3011 cd/m2 and 1.98 cd/A, respectively, which surpass those found for polyfluorene devices (1005 cd/m2, 0.28 cd/A). A soluble cyano‐substituted poly[(1,3‐phenylene vinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylene vinylene)] derivative ( 9 ) was synthesized and characterized. Comparison between 9 and its model compound ( 10 ) showed that the chromophore in 9 remained to be well defined as a result of a π‐conjugation interruption at adjacent m‐phenylene units. The attachment of a cyano substituent only at the β position of the vinylene allowed the maximum electronic impact of the cyano group on the optical properties of the poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) material. At a low temperature (?108 or ?198 °C), the vibronic structures of 9 and 10 were partially resolved. The absorption and emission spectra of a film of 9 were less temperature‐dependent than those of a film of 10 , indicating that the former had a lower tendency to aggregate. A light‐emitting diode (LED) based on 9 emitted yellow light (λmax ≈ 578 nm) with an external quantum efficiency of 0.03%. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new stepladder conjugated polymers, that is, poly(7,7,15,15‐tetraoctyldinaphtho[1,2‐a:1′,2′‐g]‐s‐indacene) (PONSI) and poly(7,7,15,15‐tetra(4‐octylphenyl)dinaphtho[1,2‐a:1′,2′‐g]‐s‐indacene) (PANSI) with alkyl and aryl substituents, respectively, have been synthesized and characterized. In comparison with poly(indenofluorene)s, both polymers have extended conjugation at the direction perpendicular to the polymer backbone because of the introduction of naphthalene moieties. The emission color of the polymers in film state is strongly dependent on the substituents. While PONSI emits at a maximum of 463 nm, PANSI with the same backbone but aryl substituents displays dramatically redshifted emission with a maximum at 494 nm. Both polymers show stable photoluminescence spectra while annealing at 200 °C in inert atmosphere. The PONSI‐based devices with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al turn on at 3.7 V, and emit at a maximum of 461 nm with the CIE coordinates of (0.19, 0.26), a maximum luminance efficiency of 1.40 cd/A, and a maximum brightness of 2036 cd/m2 at 13 V. Meanwhile, the emission color of the devices is independent of driving voltage and keeps unchanged during the continuous operation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of poly(2,3‐diphenyl‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives containing dendritic side groups were synthesized. Different generations of dendrons were integrated on the pendant phenyl ring to investigate their effect on optical and electrical properties of final polymers. Homopolymers can not be obtained via the Gilch polymerization because of sterically bulky dendrons. By controlling the feed ratio of different monomers during polymerization, dendron‐containing copolymers with high molecular weights were obtained. The UV–vis absorption and photoluminescent spectra of the thin films are pretty close; however, quantum efficiency is significantly enhanced with increasing the generation of dendrons. The electrochemical analysis reveals that hole‐injection is also improved by increasing dendritic generation. Double‐layer light‐emitting devices with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al were fabricated. High generation dendrons bring benefit of improved device performance. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3440–3450, 2007  相似文献

We report the synthesis of a 3‐ethylhexyloxy substituted poly(meta‐phenylene), EHO‐PMP that shows absorption and solid state photoluminescence exclusively in the UV region of the electromagnetic spectrum with an emission maximum of 345 nm. Computational analysis of model oligomers by DFT methods indicates that EHO‐PMP is a wide bandgap polymer with the HOMO being localized on a dimeric (biphenyl) unit and with the LUMO being more delocalized. The energy of the LUMO, however, suggests that inefficient electron injection would occur from currently available cathode materials in standard light‐emitting device architectures, and this was observed experimentally. The computational results, coupled with experimental observation, lead us to believe that efficient electroluminescence from organic polymer UV emitters requires advances in electron transport layers and cathode materials. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
