In this paper, buckling and free vibration behavior of a piezoelectric rotating cylindrical carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTRC) shell is investigated. Both cases of uniform distribution (UD) and FG distribution patterns of reinforcements are studied. The accuracy of the presented model is verified with previous studies and also with those obtained by Navier analytical method. The novelty of this study is investigating the effects of critical voltage and CNT reinforcement as well as satisfying various boundary conditions implemented on the piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell. The governing equations and boundary conditions have been developed using Hamilton's principle and are solved with the aid of Navier and generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) methods. In this research, the buckling phenomena in the piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell occur as the natural frequency is equal to zero. The results show that, various types of CNT reinforcement, length to radius ratio, external voltage, angular velocity, initial hoop tension and boundary conditions play important roles on critical voltage and natural frequency of piezoelectric rotating cylindrical CNTRC shell.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the elastic buckling of stiffened cylindrical shells by rings and stringers made of functionally graded materials subjected to axial compression loading. The shell properties are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness direction. Fundamental relations, the equilibrium and stability equations are derived using the Sander’s assumption. Resulting equations are employed to obtain the closed-form solution for the critical buckling loads. The results show that the inhomogeneity parameter and geometry of shell significantly affect the critical buckling loads. The analytical results are compared and validated using the finite element method.  相似文献

Buckling and vibration analysis of functionally graded magneto-electro-thermo-elastic (FGMETE) circular cylindrical shell are carried out in the present work. The Hamilton principle, higher order shear deformation theory, constitutive equation considering coupling effect between mechanical, electric, magnetic, thermal are considered to derive the equations of motion and distribution of electrical potential, magnetic potential along the thickness direction of FGMETE circular cylindrical shell. The influences of various external loads, such as axis force, temperature difference between the bottom and top surface of shell, surface electric voltage and magnetic voltage, on the buckling response of FGMETE circular cylindrical shell are investigated. The natural frequency obtained by present method is compared with results in open literature and a good agreement is obtained.  相似文献

The effect of partially filled poly ethylene (PE) foam core on the behavior of torsional buckling of an isotropic, simply supported piezoelectric polymeric cylindrical shell made from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and subjected to combined electro-thermo-mechanical loads has been analyzed using energy method. The shell is reinforced by armchair double walled boron nitride nanotubes (DWBNNTs). The core is modeled as an elastic environment containing Winkler and Pasternak modules. Using representative volume element (RVE) based on micromechanical modeling, mechanical, electrical and thermal characteristics of the equivalent composite were determined. Critical buckling load is calculated using strains based on Donnell theory, the coupled electro-thermo-mechanical governing equations and principle of minimum potential energy. The results indicate that buckling strength increases substantially as harder foam cores are employed i.e. as Ec/Es is increased. The most economic in-fill foam core is at η = 0.6, as cost increases without much significant improvement in torsional buckling at higher η’s.  相似文献

Employing Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and the physical neutral surface concept, the nonlinear governing equation for the functionally graded material beam with two clamped ends and surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators is derived by the Hamilton’s principle. The thermo-piezoelectric buckling, nonlinear free vibration and dynamic stability for the piezoelectric functionally graded beams, subjected to one-dimensional steady heat conduction in the thickness direction, are studied. The critical buckling loads for the beam are obtained by the existing methods in the analysis of thermo-piezoelectric buckling. The Galerkin’s procedure and elliptic function are adopted to obtain the analytical solution of the nonlinear free vibration, and the incremental harmonic balance method is applied to obtain the principle unstable regions of the piezoelectric functionally graded beam. In the numerical examples, the good agreements between the present results and existing solutions verify the validity and accuracy of the present analysis and solving method. Simultaneously, validation of the results achieved by rule of mixture against those obtained via the Mori–Tanaka scheme is carried out, and excellent agreements are reported. The effects of the thermal load, electric load, and thermal properties of the constituent materials on the thermo-piezoelectric buckling, nonlinear free vibration, and dynamic stability of the piezoelectric functionally graded beam are discussed, and some meaningful conclusions have been drawn.  相似文献

In this paper, a semi-analytical method for the free vibration behavior of spiral stiffened multilayer functionally graded (SSMFG) cylindrical shells under the thermal environment is investigated. The distribution of linear and uniform temperature along the direction of thickness is assumed. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation, which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness. The cylindrical shell has three layers consist of ceramic, FGM, and metal in two cases. In the first model i.e. Ceramic-FGM-Metal (CFM), the exterior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich ceramic while the interior layer is rich metal and the functionally graded material is located between these layers and the material distribution is in reverse order in the second model i.e. Metal-FGM-Ceramic (MFC). The material constitutive of the stiffeners is continuously changed through the thickness. Using the Galerkin method based on the von Kármán equations and the smeared stiffeners technique, the problem of nonlinear vibration has been solved. In order to find the nonlinear vibration responses, the fourth order Runge–Kutta method is utilized. The results show that the different angles of stiffeners and nonlinear elastic foundation parameters have a strong effect on the vibration behaviors of the SSMFG cylindrical shells. Also, the results illustrate that the vibration amplitude and the natural frequency for CFM and MFC shells with the first longitudinal and third transversal modes (m = 1, n = 3) with the stiffeners angle θ = 30°, β = 60° and θ = β = 30° is less than and more than others, respectively.  相似文献

Due to many applications of spherical shells on a circular planform such as the nose of the plane and spacecraft and caps of pressurized cylindrical tanks, in this article, free vibration analysis of a thin functionally graded shallow spherical cap under a thermal load is considered. A decoupling technique is employed to analytically solve the equations of motion. Introducing some new auxiliary and potential functions as well as using the separation method of variables, the governing equations of the vibrated functionally graded shallow spherical cap were exactly solved. The superiority of the relations is validated by some comparative studies for various types of boundary conditions. Also, thermal buckling phenomenon is considered. Using new different material models, efficiency of the functionally graded materials is investigated when the shell is subjected to a temperature gradient. The effects of various parameters such as radius of curvature, material grading index and thermal gradient are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the free vibration of a two-dimensional functionally graded circular cylindrical shell is analyzed. The equations of motion are based on the Love’s first approximation classical shell theory. The spatial derivatives of the equations of motion and boundary conditions are discretized by the methods of generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) and generalized integral quadrature (GIQ). Two kinds of micromechanics models, viz. Voigt and Mori–Tanaka models are used to describe the material properties. To validate the results, comparisons are made with the solutions for FG cylindrical shells available in the literature. The results of this study show that the natural frequency of the material can be modified in order to meet the expected results through manipulation of the constituent volume fractions. A comprehensive comparison is then drawn between ordinary and 2-D FG cylindrical shells.

The focus of this paper is on the analytical buckling solutions of piezoelectric cylindrical nanoshells under the combined compressive loads and external voltages. To capture the small-scale characteristics of the nanostructures, the constitutive equations with the coupled nonlocal and surface effects are adopted within the framework of Reddy's higher-order shell theory. The governing equations involving the displacements and induced piezoelectric field are solved by employing the separation of variables. The derived accurate solutions conclude that bucking critical stresses should go down rapidly while the nonlocal effects reach a certain level. With the enhancing surface effects, the stability of piezoelectric cylindrical nanoshells can be improved significantly. Meanwhile, the induced electric field also plays an important role in elevating the buckling critical stresses. For the nanoshells with remarkable nonlocal effects, boundary conditions, shell length and radius have little influence on the buckling solutions. The detailed effects of the boundary conditions, geometric parameters, material properties and applied voltages are discussed.  相似文献

Parametric resonance of a functionally graded (FG) cylindrical thin shell with periodic rotating angular speeds subjected to thermal environment is studied in this paper. Taking account of the temperature-dependent properties of the shell, the dynamic equations of a rotating FG cylindrical thin shell based upon Love's thin shell theory are built by Hamilton's principle. The multiple scales method is utilized to obtain the instability boundaries of the problem with the consideration of time-varying rotating angular speeds. It is shown that only the combination instability regions exist for a rotating FG cylindrical thin shell. Moreover, some numerical examples are employed to systematically analyze the effects of constant rotating angular speed, material heterogeneity and thermal effects on vibration characteristics, instability regions and critical rotating speeds of the shell. Of great interest in the process is the combined effect of constant rotating angular speed and temperature on instability regions.  相似文献

We treat coupled electromechanical problem of finite deformations of piezoelectric shells with the help of the direct approach. A shell is considered as a material surface with mechanical degrees of freedom of particles and with an additional field variable, namely electric potential on the electrodes. This results both in the nonlinear system of equations of piezoelectric shells and in the appropriate numerical scheme. Application of the direct approach is preceded with the three-dimensional asymptotic analysis of a linear electromechanical problem for a non-homogeneous piezoelectric plate, which provides the constitutive relations for the nonlinear theory. As a sample problem, we present finite element analysis of deformation and local buckling of cylindrical panel, equipped with piezoelectric sensors. The latter influence the mechanical behavior and produce signals, which can be interpreted in terms of structural entities. (© 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The problem of buckling instability of cylindrical shells under axial compression is considered. The shells consist of cylindrical sections of smaller radius. The geometrical parameters of the shells are approximated by Fourier series on a discrete point set. A Timoshenko-type shell theory is used. The solution is obtained in the form of trigonometric series. It is shown that shells consisting of cylindrical sections have considerable advantages over circular ones. At a constant shell weight, the choice of suitable parameters of shell sections leads to a significant increase in the critical load. The composite shells considered possess higher efficiency indices in comparison with isotropic ones.  相似文献

This paper investigates the three-dimensional thermo-elastic deformation of cylindrical shells on two-parameter elastic foundations with continuously graded of volume fraction, subjected to thermal load. Suitable temperature and displacement functions that identically satisfy boundary conditions at the edges are used to reduce the equilibrium equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, which are solved by Generalized Differential Quadrature (GDQ) method. Results are presented for two-constituent isotropic and fiber-reinforced functionally graded cylindrical shells that have a smooth variation of volume fractions through the radial direction. Symmetric and asymmetric volume fraction profiles are presented in this paper. The fast rate of convergence of the method is demonstrated and comparison studies are carried out to establish its very high accuracy and versatility. Effects of stiffness of the foundation and variations of different parameters of generalized power-law distribution on steady-state responses of the functionally graded cylindrical shell resting on elastic foundation are discussed. In addition, the effects of the FGM configuration are studied by considering the mechanical entities of different FGM fiber-reinforced cylindrical shells resting on elastic foundation. Some results are presented for the first time and some important conclusions are drawn.  相似文献

A theoretical model is developed to study the dynamic stability and nonlinear vibrations of the stiffened functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shell in thermal environment. Von Kármán nonlinear theory, first-order shear deformation theory, smearing stiffener approach and Bolotin method are used to model stiffened FG cylindrical shells. Galerkin method and modal analysis technique is utilized to obtain the discrete nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Based on the static condensation method, a reduction model is presented. The effects of thermal environment, stiffeners number, material characteristics on the dynamic stability, transient responses and primary resonance responses are examined.  相似文献

The stability of cylindrical shells in axial compression has been experimentally investigated. The glass-reinforced plastic shells were fabricated in various ways: by winding glass strand, from glass cloth, and by a combination of the first two methods. The buckling mode and critical load were determined as functions of the ratio of shell radius to shell thickness. A statistical analysis of the test data leads to a formula with an empirical coefficient for use in practical stability calculations.Institute of Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev. Shell type components and structures are very common in many mechanical and structural systems. In smart structural applications, piezolaminated plates and shells are commonly used. In this paper a finite element formulation is presented to model the static and dynamic response of laminated composite shells containing integrated piezoelectric sensors and actuators subjected to electrical, mechanical and thermal loadings. The formulation is based on the first order shear deformation theory and Hamilton's principle. In this formulation, the mass and stiffness of the piezo-layers have been taken into account. A nine-noded degenerated shell element is implemented for the analysis. The model is validated by comparing with existing results documented in the literature. A simple negative velocity feedback control algorithm coupling the direct and converse piezoelectric effects is used to actively control the dynamic response of an integrated structure through a closed control loop. The influence of the stacking sequence and position of sensors/actuators on the response of the laminated cylindrical shell is evaluated. Numerical results show that piezoelectric sensors/actuators can be used to control the shape and vibration of laminated composite cylindrical shell.  相似文献

The present work is devoted to the stability of liquid filled horizontal tanks. The possibility of substitution of a cylindrical tank with a barrelled one is investigated. A family of barrelled shells was created and subjected to the numerical analysis. The model of the shell was simply supported at both ends and subjected to the hydrostatic pressure. The values of the critical load and the buckling shapes were determined. The advantages of barrelled shells and their behaviour under hydrostatic load are described.
