The geometrically nonlinear free vibrations of thin isotropic circular plates are investigated using a multi-degree-of-freedom model, which is based on thin plate theory and on Von Kármán's nonlinear strain-displacement relations. The middle plane in-plane displacements are included in the formulation and the common axisymmetry restriction is not imposed. The equations of motion are derived by the principle of the virtual work and an approximated model is achieved by assuming that the in-plane and transverse displacement fields are given by weighted series of spatial functions. These spatial functions are based on hierarchical sets of polynomials, which have been successfully used in p-version finite elements for beams and rectangular plates, and on trigonometric functions. Employing the harmonic balance method, the differential equations of motion are converted into a nonlinear algebraic form and then solved by a continuation method. Convergence with the number of shape functions and of harmonics is analysed. The numerical results obtained are presented and compared with available published results; it is shown that the hierarchical sets of functions provide good results with a small number of degrees of freedom. Internal resonances are found and the ensuing multimodal oscillations are described.  相似文献

The nonlinear free vibration of carbon nanotubes/fiber/polymer composite (CNTFPC) multi-scale plates with surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators is studied in this paper. The governing equations of the piezoelectric nanotubes/fiber/polymer multiscale laminated composite plates are derived based on first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) and von Kármán geometrical nonlinearity. Halpin–Tsai equations and fiber micromechanics are used in hierarchy to predict the bulk material properties of the multiscale composite. The carbon nanotubes are assumed to be uniformly distributed and randomly oriented through the epoxy resin matrix. A perturbation scheme of multiple time scales is employed to determine the nonlinear vibration response and the nonlinear natural frequencies of the plates with immovable simply supported boundary conditions. The effects of the applied constant voltage, plate geometry, volume fraction of fibers and weight percentage of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the linear and nonlinear natural frequencies of the piezoelectric nanotubes/fiber/polymer multiscale composite plate are investigated through a detailed parametric study.  相似文献

A finite element formulation of the equations governing the laminated anisotropic plate theory of Yang, Norris and Stavsky, is presented. The theory is a generalization of Mindlin's theory for isotropic plates to laminated anisotropic plates and includes shear deformation and rotary inertia effects. Finite element solutions are presented for rectangular plates of antisymmetric angle-ply laminates whose material properties are typical of a highly anisotropic composite material. Two sets of material properties that are typical of high modulus fiber-reinforced composites are used to show the parametric effects of plate aspect ratio, length-to-thickness ratio, number of layers and lamination angle. The numerical results are compared with the closed form results of Bert and Chen. As a special case, numerical results are presented for thick isotropic plates, and are compared with those for 3-D linear elasticity theory and Mindlin's thick plate theory.  相似文献

Natural frequencies of a pre-twisted blade in a centrifugal force field   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, starting with the thin shell theory, the governing partial differential equation of motion for the transverse deflection of a rotating pre-twisted plate is derived. Strain-displacement relationships include the effect of warping of the cross-section due to twist-bend coupling effect introduced as a result of pre-twist in the plate of non-circular (rectangular) cross-section. Then the equation of motion, thus derived, is used to formulate the free vibration of a typical turbo-machinery cantilevered airfoil blade by considering it as a plate of an equivalent rectangular cross-section subjected to a quasi-static load due to centrifugal force field. The analytical derivation considers both the stress-stiffening as well as stress-softening effects of the centrifugal forces on the spinning airfoil. The partial differential equation governing the flexural motion of the plate is transformed into a matrix-eigenvalue form using a Rayleigh-Ritz technique. The plate deformations are represented by a set of ‘admissible’ sinusoidal trial functions, which fully satisfy all the clamped-end constrains as well as the free-edge boundary conditions. The results of the analytical model exhibit an excellent agreement with the previously published test data both for thin and thick plate geometries and even in highly twisted configurations. The results of the eigenvalue solution are presented in a non-dimensional form for plates of varying aspect ratios and different amounts of pre-twist in the plate. The numerical results are directly applicable in determining the static and running frequencies of typical blades used in turbo-machinery.  相似文献

We study coupled face-shear (FS) and thickness-twist (TT) motions of a piezoelectric plate of monoclinic crystals with mass layers on the central parts of the plate surfaces. The plate is driven by a lateral electric field. Mindlin’s first-order theory of piezoelectric plates is used. An analytical solution is obtained. Numerical results are presented for an AT-cut quartz plate, including the motional capacitance of the plate as a resonator and the vibration modes trapped under the mass layers in the central portion of the plate. The relationship between the dimension of the mass layers and the number of trapped modes is examined.  相似文献

Free and forced vibrations of triangular plate are investigated. Diverse types of stiffeners were attached onto the plate to suppress the undesirable large-amplitude oscillations. The governing equation of motion for a triangular plate, based on the von Kármán theory, is developed and the nonlinear ordinary differential equation of the system using Galerkin approach is obtained. Closed-form expressions for the free undamped and large-amplitude vibration of an orthotropic triangular elastic plate are presented using the two well-known analytical methods, namely, the energy balance method and the variational approach. The frequency responses in the closed-form are presented and their sensitivities with respect to the initial amplitudes are studied. An error analysis is performed and the vibration behavior, as well as the accuracy of the solution methods, is evaluated. Different types of the stiffened triangular plates are considered in order to cover a wide range of practical applications. Numerical simulations are carried out and the validity of the solution procedure is explored. It is demonstrated that the two methods of energy balance and variational approach have been quite straightforward and reliable techniques to solve those nonlinear differential equations. Subsequently, due to the importance of multiple resonant responses in engineering design, multi-frequency excitations are considered. It is assumed that three periodic forces are applied to the plate in three specific positions. The multiple time scaling method is utilized to obtain approximate solutions for the frequency resonance cases. Influences of different parameters, namely, the position of applied forces, geometry and the number of stiffeners on the frequency response of the triangular plates are examined.  相似文献

The finite element method is extended to the free vibration analysis of laminated thick plates with curved boundaries. Two elements are developed on the basis of Mindlin's thick plate theory in which the effects of thickness-shear deformation and rotary inertia are included. Both elements are derived in polar co-ordinates and can be joined together to handle annular as well as circular laminated anisotropic plate problems. Since axisymmetry has not been assumed, variations in material properties in the tangential direction can be dealt with. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the influence of geometrical shape as well as that of thickness-shear deformation on the free vibrations of both homogeneous and layered plates. Comparisons between the numerical results obtained and those presented by other investigators confirm the accuracy of the new elements. The elements also can be used in the analysis of rectangular plates by assuming very large radii and very small subtended angle values.  相似文献

This paper presents results on the numerical and experimental studies of focusing and waveguiding of the lowest anti-symmetric Lamb wave in micro-fabricated piezoelectric phononic plates. The phononic structure was based on an AT-cut quartz plate and consisted of a gradient-index phononic crystal (GRIN PC) lens and a linear phononic plate waveguide. The band structures of the square-latticed AT-cut quartz phononic crystal plates with different filling ratios were analyzed using the finite element method. The design of a GRIN PC plate lens which is attached with a linear phononic plate waveguide is proposed. In designing the waveguide, propagation modes in square-latticed PC plates with different waveguide widths were studied and the results were served for the experimental design. In the micro-fabrication, deep reactive ion etching (Deep-RIE) process with a laboratory-made etcher was utilized to fabricate both the GRIN PC plate lens and the linear phononic waveguide on an 80 μm thick AT-cut quartz plate. Interdigital transducers were fabricated directly on the quartz plate to generate the lowest anti-symmetric Lamb waves. A vibro-meter was used to detect the wave fields and the measured results on the focusing and waveguiding of the piezoelectric GRIN PC lens and waveguide are in good accordance with the numerical predictions. The results of this study may serve as a basis for developing an active micro plate lens and related devices.  相似文献

This study is an analytical investigation of free flexural large amplitude vibrations of orthotropic rectangular plates with all-clamped and all-simply supported stress-free edges. The dynamic von Karman-type equations of the plate are used in the analysis. A solution satisfying the prescribed boundary conditions is expressed in the form of double series with coefficients being functions of time. The model equations are solved by expanding the time-dependent deflection coefficients into Fourier cosine series. As obtained by taking the first sixteen terms in the double series and the first two terms in the time series, numerical results are presented for non-linear frequencies of various modes of glass-epoxy, boron-epoxy and graphite-epoxy plates. The analysis shows that, for large values of the amplitude, the effect of coupling of vibrating modes on the non-linear frequency of the fundamental mode is significant for orthotropic plates, especially for high-modulus composite plates.  相似文献

The possible usage of nanoplates in transporting of nanovehicles encouraged the author to propose some nonlocal plate models in the companion paper where the nanovehicle (i.e., moving nanoparticle) was modeled by a moving point load by considering its friction with the upper surface of the nanoplate. In this paper, a comprehensive parametric study is carried out to study the effects of length to thickness ratio of the nanoplate, small-scale parameter, and velocity (or angular velocity) of the moving nanoparticle on dynamic response of nonlocal Kirchhoff, Mindlin, and higher-order plates subjected to a moving nanoparticle. Herein, dynamic response of the nanoplate covers both time histories and dynamic amplitude factors of the in- and out-of-plane displacements. The capabilities of various nonlocal plate models in predicting the displacement field caused by friction and mass weight of the moving nanoparticle are then explored through various numerical analyses for two cases: (i) the moving nanoparticle moves along a diagonal of the nanoplate; (ii) the moving nanoparticle orbits on an ellipse path whose center is coincident with the nanoplate's center. The obtained results indicate that due to the incorporation of small-scale effect into shear strain energy of the nanoplate, an appropriate nonlocal plate model should be used. The results show that the choice of the nanoplate model to use relies on the small-scale parameter, geometrical properties of the nanoplate, and velocity of the moving nanoparticle.  相似文献

In this paper, the free vibrations of rectangular Mindlin plates with variable thickness in one or two directions are investigated. The thickness variation of the plate is continuous and can be represented by a power function of the rectangular co-ordinates. A wide range of tapered rectangular plates can be described by giving various index values to the power function. Two sets of new admissible functions are developed, respectively, to approximate the flexural displacement and the angle of rotation due to bending of the plate. The eigenfrequency equation is obtained by using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The complete solutions of displacement and angle of rotation due to bending for a tapered Timoshenko beam (a strip taken from the tapered Mindlin plate in some direction) under a Taylor series of static load have been derived, which are used as the admissible functions of the rectangular Mindlin plates with taper thickness in one or two directions. Unlike conventional admissible functions which are independent of the thickness variation of the plate, the static Timoshenko beam functions presented in this paper are closely connected with the thickness variation of the plate so that higher accuracy and more rapid convergence can be expected. Some numerical results are furnished for both truncated Mindlin plates and sharp-ended Mindlin plates. On the basis of convergence study and comparison with available results in literature, it is shown that the first few eigenfrequencies can be obtained with quite satisfactory accuracy by using only a small number of terms of the static Timoshenko beam functions.  相似文献

The geometrically non-linear free vibration of thin composite laminated plates is investigated by using a theoretical model based on Hamilton's principle and spectral analysis previously applied to obtain the non-linear mode shapes and resonance frequencies of thin straight structures, such as beams, plates and shells (Benamar et al. 1991Journal of Sound and Vibration149 , 179-195; 1993, 164, 295-316; 1990 Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Recent Advances in Structural Dynamics, Southampton; Moussaoui et al. 2000 Journal of Sound and Vibration232, 917-943 [1-4]). The von Kármán non-linear strain-displacement relationships have been employed. In the formulation, the transverse displacement W of the plate mid-plane has been taken into account and the in-plane displacements U and V have been neglected in the non-linear strain energy expressions. This assumption, quite often made in the literature has been adopted in reference [2] and (El Kadiri et al. 1999 Journal of Sound and Vibration228, 333-358 [5]), in the isotropic case and has been mentioned here because the results obtained have been found to be in very good agreement with those based on the hierarchical finite element method (HFEM). In a previous study, it was assumed, based on the analogy with the isotropic case, that the fundamental carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) plate non-linear mode shape could be well estimated, by using nine plate functions, obtained as products of clamped-clamped beam functions in the x and y directions, symmetric in both the length U001and width directions [3]. In the present work, a convergence study has been performed and has shown that, although such an assumption may yield a good estimate for the non-linear resonance frequency, 18 plate functions should be taken into account instead of nine in the first non-linear mode shape and associated bending stress patterns calculations. This allows the anisotropy induced by the fibre orientations to be taken into account. Results are given for the fundamental mode of fully clamped CFRP rectangular plates, for various plate aspect ratios and vibration amplitudes. The non-linear mode shows a higher bending stress near the clamps at large deflection, compared with that predicted by linear theory. Some experimental measurements are presented which are in good qualitative agreement with the theory.  相似文献

A simple approximate formula for the natural frequencies of flexural vibration of isotropic plates, originally developed by Warburton using characteristic beam functions in Rayleigh's method, is modified to apply to specially orthotropic plates and extended to include the effect of uniform, direct inplane forces. The initial buckling problem is treated simply by equating the frequency expression to zero. The approach permits the ready determination of reasonably accurate natural frequencies and/or buckling loads for a given plate involving any combination of free, simply supported or clamped edges, without requiring the aid of a sophisticated calculating device or a knowledge of plate, vibration or buckling theory. To illustrate the applicability and accuracy of the approach, numerical results for a number of specific plate problems are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the free vibration of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic plates under combined clamped/free lateral boundary conditions using a semi-analytical discrete-layer approach. More specifically, we use piecewise continuous approximations for the field variables in the thickness direction and continuous polynomial approximations for those within the plane of the plate. Group theory is further used to isolate the nature of the vibrational modes to reduce the computational cost. As numerical examples, two cases of the lateral boundary conditions combined with the clamped and free edges are considered. The non-dimensional frequencies and mode shapes of elastic displacements, electric and magnetic potentials are presented. Our numerical results clearly illustrate the effect of the stacking sequences and magneto-electric coupling on the frequencies and mode shapes of the anisotropic magneto-electro-elastic plate, and should be useful in future vibration study and design of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic plates.  相似文献

A lumped-parameter model of a rectangular plate is developed by assuming fundamental mode solutions and using Hamilton's Principle and the Euler equations to set up the differential equation of motion for the system. The plate theory used may be described as the dynamic analogue of the von Kármán large-deflection theory. Four sets of symmetrical boundary conditions are considered with the restriction of uniform pressure dynamic loads. The model takes the form of a mass on a cubic-hardening spring with each term defined by algebraic expressions of the plate parameters. The results for some specific problems are compared with two previous solutions. This method is less accurate but simpler to develop and apply.  相似文献

The fundamental frequency of vibration of a circular plate of polar orthotropy carrying concentrated masses is determined by using (a) an extension of the Rayleigh-Schmidt technique and (b) a Ritz-Lagrange multipliers method. Numerical results are presented for clamped and simply supported plates for several combinations of orthotropic parameters and values of the concentrated mass to plate mass ratio.  相似文献

We have introduced a modified penalty approach into the flow-structure interaction solver that combines an immersed boundary method (IBM) and a multi-block lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to model an incompressible flow and elastic boundaries with finite mass. The effect of the solid structure is handled by the IBM in which the stress exerted by the structure on the fluid is spread onto the collocated grid points near the boundary. The fluid motion is obtained by solving the discrete lattice Boltzmann equation. The inertial force of the thin solid structure is incorporated by connecting this structure through virtual springs to a ghost structure with the equivalent mass. This treatment ameliorates the numerical instability issue encountered in this type of problems. Thanks to the superior efficiency of the IBM and LBM, the overall method is extremely fast for a class of flow-structure interaction problems where details of flow patterns need to be resolved. Numerical examples, including those involving multiple solid bodies, are presented to verify the method and illustrate its efficiency. As an application of the present method, an elastic filament flapping in the Kármán gait and the entrainment regions near a cylinder is studied to model fish swimming in these regions. Significant drag reduction is found for the filament, and the result is consistent with the metabolic cost measured experimentally for the live fish.  相似文献

New developments in the simplified smearing technique for modeling vibrations of cross-stiffened, thin rectangular plates are presented. The computationally efficient smearing technique has been known for many years, but so far the accuracy of, say, predicted natural frequencies has been inadequate. The reason is that only the stiffeners at a right angle to the axis of angular motion are taken into account when calculating the bending stiffness, whereas the stiffeners that are parallel to this axis of angular motion are neglected. To improve predictions, the parallel stiffeners are taken into account in this paper. The improved smearing technique results in better accuracy for predicted natural frequencies of flat stiffened plates, as demonstrated for both simply supported and clamped boundary conditions. The improved prediction accuracy is demonstrated by comparing results from a numerical model based on the current development with results from finite element (FE) simulations that include the exact cross-sectional geometries of the stiffened panel. In order to demonstrate applications of the improved smearing technique, the predicted forced response is compared with both experimental and FE results. Another improvement concerns the orientation of the stiffeners. The original smearing technique presupposes that the stiffeners are parallel to the edges of the plate, but simple considerations make it possible to relax this requirement. To test the validity of the resulting technique a series of plates are examined for stiffeners angled relative to the plate edges.  相似文献

A phenomenological theory is presented for the lattice thermal conductivity of thin plates (or films) in a contact with another material (e.g. a thin plate covered by an oxide film, a thin film evaporated on a substrate, etc.). In such heterogeneous systems, it is necessary to consider — besides reflections — the exchange of phonons between the phases of which the system is composed. Boundary conditions are formulated for the phonon distribution functions. It is shown that the surrounding material (or the substrate) can exert considerable influence upon the effective thermal conductivity of the plate (film). In conclusion, the authors express their sincere gratitude to . Bárta for valuable discussions on the subject of this paper.  相似文献
