crystal display. In contrast to the setup in the Ronchi Test, an incoherent illuminating grating is used and an optical slit
is located at the image plane of the tested lens to modulate the aberrated wavefront. With the micro liquid crystal display
generating and phase shifting the incoherent illuminating grating with variable frequency, a higher measurement dynamic range

This Letter demonstrates a photo-addressable, bistable reflective liquid crystal display that is based on a dye-doped liquid crystal (DDLC). Bistable bright and dark states can be attained using the 45 deg twisted nematic (TN) and photo-induced isotropic states (PHI) of the DDLC, respectively. Both the 45 deg TN and PHI states can exist stably for tens of hours, and each can be rapidly switched to the other by the isomerization effect using UV and green light. A bistable reflective liquid crystal display is simply fabricated, easily operated, and rapidly switched. It therefore has the potential to be used in portable information systems. 相似文献

In this paper a novel method is proposed to determine the cell parameters including the twist angle, optic retardation and rubbing direction of twisted-nematic liquid crystal displays (TNLCD) by rotating the TNLCD. It is a single-wavelength method. Because using subtraction equation of transmittance as curve fitting equation, the influence of the light from environment and the absorption by polarizer, the sample of TNLCD and analyser on the transmittance is eliminated. Accurate results can also be obtained in imperfect darkness. By large numbers of experiments, we found that not only the experimental setup is quite simple and can be easily adopted to be carried out, but also the results are accurate. 相似文献

We show an anomalous behavior in a diffractive lens in which the spot size at the focus reaches a minimum at a numerical aperture of ~0.5 and then increases significantly at higher values. Theoretical and experimental results are presented, along with a comparison with refractive aplanatic lenses, in which the anomaly does not appear to exist. 相似文献

We report some preliminary results on the realization of terahertz (THz) nematic liquid crystal (LC) lens with electric tunable focal length. A LC cell with a single circular-hole electrode is driven by an AC voltage to yield the desired spatial distribution of the refractive index. The two-dimensional function of the phase delay introduced into THz wave depends on the AC voltage and the electrodes contacting the LC layer. This lens is operated at room temperature and its convergent optical characteristic is demonstrated at 118 μm. We realize the lens with a clear aperture of 1 mm. The lens matched with a bolometer array is capable of obtaining real-time THz images of a sample without any mechanical scanning. 相似文献

A fast-response in-plane switching liquid crystal display with a protrusion structure 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The widespread use and application of in-plane switching liquid crystal displays (IPS-LCDs) is limited by their slow response. In this letter, a fast-response IPS-LCD with a protrusion structure is proposed. The gray-to-gray response time of the IPS-LCD is reduced by 20% to 30%. The difference in cell gap induced by the protrusion accounts for the faster response. Moreover, the viewing angle and ganmla shift of tile proposed IPS-LCD are simulated and found to be better than that of conventional IPS-LCDs. 相似文献

In order to optimize computer-generated holograms (CGHs) for three-dimensional objects, an extension of the well known Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm is used. Optical reconstructions using an electrically addressed twisted-nematic liquid crystal display are presented. For arbitrary CGHs, reconstructing 3D-objects, we will discuss the problems and solutions associated with periodic replication of holograms. 相似文献

The microstructural and microspectral characteristics of a vertically aligned liquid crystal display (VA-LCD) panel were obtained noninvasively for the first time. With 1?μm axial and 2?μm transversal resolutions, the cell gap profile beneath the patterned thin-film transistor of the VA-LCD panel can clearly be resolved. The thicknesses of the multiple thin-film layers and the embedded defects can also be unveiled. As far as spectral response is concerned, the light transmittance at the layer boundaries can be estimated from the measured reflectance, which is crucial information for the design of a highly transmissive panel. The color shift of the VA-LCD panel due to fabrication error was evaluated. 相似文献

A homogeneous-aligned, high-transmission, and fast-response liquid crystal display (LCD) with three-layer electrodes is proposed. The molecules of liquid crystals are more inclined to rotate above and between the pixel electrodes. This induces a much higher transmission than that of the cell driven by the fringe field switching method and a wide viewing angle simultaneously because of the combined fringe and in-plane electric fields. Furthermore, a trigger pulse voltage is applied between the top and common electrodes to forcibly align the liquid crystal molecules vertically to show the transient dark state, which results in a very fast turn-off time (~1 ms). With high degree of transmission and fast response time, this kind of LCD is a potential candidate for large LCD panels. 相似文献

A polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystal display (BPLCD) with slanted wall-shaped electrodes is proposed. Compared with the traditional BPLCD with wall-shaped electrodes, the electrodes of the proposed BPLCD are slightly angled to obtain phase retardation in the entire cell even at the position of electrodes. A diffractive optical element for off-axis focusing of terahertz radiation is presented. It was designed in a nonparaxial regime and manufactured in a metal slab by laser cutting of curved stripes. The optical function of the structure includes focusing and deflecting the illuminating beam of a chosen frequency in a particular place. Therefore, the element acts as both a spatial and a spectral filter; hence it is especially suitable for separating the terahertz signal from a broadband thermal load in passive detection devices. The experimental evaluation of the proposed diffractive lens by means of time-domain spectroscopy is presented and discussed. 相似文献

We report the fabrication of transparent rigid or flexible liquid crystal dispersion displays driven by electrodes prepared from coating inert substrates with stable aqueous suspensions of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) or multiple-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). The SWNT-coated electrodes exhibit a dense nanotube network with a sheet resistivity ( 25 k) about one decade lower than that of their MWNT counterparts. The electro-optical performance of the SWNT-based devices is at least equivalent to that of an indium tin oxide-based display, whereas those driven by MWNT electrodes operate at slightly higher threshold and saturation voltages. An improved two-stage model of colorimetric characterization for liquid crystal display (LCD) was proposed. The model included an S-shape nonlinear function with four coefficients for each channel to fit the Tone reproduction curve (TRC), and a linear transfer matrix with black-level correction. To compare with the simple model (SM), gain-offset-gain (GOG), S-curve and three-one-dimensional look-up tables (3-1D LUTs) models, an identical LCD was characterized and the color differences were calculated and summarized using the set of 7 × 7 × 7 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) triplets as test data. The experimental results showed that the model was outperformed in comparison with the GOG and SM ones, and near to that of the S-curve model and 3-1D LUTs method. 相似文献

Our research group has developed an ultra slim and bendable backlight system, which was manufactured by a continuous roll-to-roll
process, with a unified component for liquid crystal display (LCD). This backlight system, which has a thickness of 0.26 mm,
is simply composed of a light guide film and an optically patterned film made of photocurable resin with micro particles,
consequently it does not require any additional optical films such as prism sheets or diffuser. In addition, we have developed
a new light guide component which is composed of bundled optical fibers in order to collimate light from the light source
to the light guide film. We found that the backlight system could be radiated uniformly across the LCD surface whether plane
