The classical Hele–Shaw (Laplacian-growth) problem is generalised to power-law fluids (satisfying the p-Laplace equation) and a number of results are established that are analogous to some of those involving null-quadrature domains in the former. The results are formal, but suggest a number of avenues warranting rigorous investigation; some of these are formulated as conjectures or open problems. Submitted: May 31, 2008. Let G be an A-group (i.e. a group in which xx α  = x α x for all and let denote the subgroup of Aut(G) consisting of all automorphisms that leave invariant the centralizer of each element of G. The quotient is an elementary abelian 2-group and natural analogies exist to suggest that it might always be trivial. It is shown that, in fact, for any odd prime p and any positive integer r, there exist infinitely many finite pA-groups G for which has rank r. Received: 23 March 2008, Revised: 20 May 2008  相似文献

For k an algebraic closure of the finite field , prime distinct from p and X a surface over k, we prove that the field of rational functions k(X) can be recovered from the maximal pro--quotient of its absolute Galois group – in fact already from the second central descending series quotient of . Decay properties in energy norm for solutions of a class of partial differential equations with memory are studied by means of frequency domain methods. Our results are optimal for this class, as we are able to characterize polynomial as well as exponential decay rates. The results apply to models for viscoelastic materials. An extension to a semilinearly perturbed problem is also included. Received: 9 July 2008, Revised: 16 September 2008  相似文献

In this paper, we get the main theorem: Let p be a prime dividing the order of G and , where and H is p -Hall subgroup of G. Let δ be a complete set of Sylow subgroups of H. If G satisfies the following conditions: i) is a p-group; ii) for any maximal M of P, M is δ-permutable in H, then G is p-nilpotent. Some known results are generalized. A Hankel form on a Hilbert function space is a bounded, symmetric, bilinear form [., .] satisfying [fx, y] = [x, fy] for a class of multipliers f. We prove analogs of Weyl–Horn and Ky Fan inequalities for compact Hankel forms, and apply them to estimate the related eigenvalues, both for Hardy–Smirnov and Bergman spaces norms associated to multiply connected planar domains. In the case of the unit disk, we investigate the asymptotic of some measures constructed by eigenfunctions of Hankel operators with certain Markov functions as symbols. Submitted: May 2, 2008. If F is a family of mod 2 k-cycles in the unit n-ball, we lower bound the maximal volume of any cycle in F in terms of the homology class of F in the space of all cycles. We give examples to show that these lower bounds are fairly sharp. Received: February 2007, Revision: January 2008, Accepted: January 2008  相似文献

For a probability space (Ω,ℱ,P) and two sub-σ-fields we consider two natural distances: and . We investigate basic properties of these distances. In particular we show that if a distance (ρ or ) from ℬ to is small then there exists Z∈ℱ with small P(Z), such that for every B∈ℬ there exists such that BZ and AZ differ by a set of probability zero. This improves results of Neveu (Ann. Math. Stat. 43(4):1369–1371, [1972]), Jajte and Paszkiewicz (Probab. Math. Stat. 19(1):181–201, [1999]).   相似文献

We introduce and study a multi-valued integral of Aumann-type where the selectors are Gould integrals of real functions with respect to finitely additive vector-valued measures. We also discuss the relationship between this kind of integral and the M-Gould set-valued integral with respect to a finitely additive multimeasure M. Let be a bounded simply connected domain with boundary Γ and let be a regular compact set with connected complement. In this paper we investigate asymptotics of the extremal constants:

Subsequently, we obtain asymptotic behavior of the Kolmogorov k-widths, , of the unit ball An of restricted to E in C(E), where H is the Hardy space of bounded analytic functions on G and C(E) is the space of continuous functions on E. Let X1 and X2 be subspaces of quotients of R OH and C OH respectively. We use new free probability techniques to construct a completely isomorphic embedding of the Haagerup tensor product into the predual of a sufficiently large QWEP von Neumann algebra. As an immediate application, given any 1 < q ≤ 2, our result produces a completely isomorphic embedding of (equipped with its natural operator space structure) into with a QWEP von Neumann algebra. In this short note we will provide a new proof of the following exotic shuffle relation of multiple zeta values: This was proved by Zagier when n = 0, by Broadhurst when m = 0, and by Borwein, Bradley, and Broadhurst when m = 1. In general this was proved by Bowman and Bradley. Our new idea is to use the method of Borwein et al. to reduce the above general relation to some families of combinatorial identities which can be verified by Zeilberger’s algorithm [9, 10] that is part of the WZ method. In this paper, we continue the study of almost squares; these are integers n representable as na · b for some . We show that almost all (in the measure–theoretic sense) short intervals [x, x + (log x)12] contain at least one almost square, and we consider related questions. Moreover, a result of Erdős shows that the exponent 12 cannot be smaller than 0.086 .... Received: 26 June 2008; Revised: 22 December 2008  相似文献

On a non-trivial partially ordered real vector space V the orthogonality relation is defined by incomparability and is a complete lattice of double orthoclosed sets. In an earlier paper we defined an integrally open ordered vector space V and proved orthomodularity of . We shall say that is an orthogonal set when for all with , we have . We consider two different closure operations and (ortho and causal closure) and prove: V is integrally open iff for every orthogonal set . Hence follows: if V is integrally open, then . Let be a saturated formation containing the class of supersolvable groups and let G be a finite group. The following theorems are presented: (1) G ∈ if and only if there is a normal subgroup H such that G/H ∈ and every maximal subgroup of all Sylow subgroups of H is either c-normal or S-quasinormally embedded in G. (2) G ∈ if and only if there is a normal subgroup H such that G/H ∈ and every maximal subgroup of all Sylow subgroups of F*(H), the generalized Fitting subgroup of H, is either c-normal or S-quasinormally embedded in G. (3) G ∈ if and only if there is a normal subgroup H such that G/H ∈ and every cyclic subgroup of F*(H) of prime order or order 4 is either c-normal or S-quasinormally embedded in G.
