The transport properties of coupled Brownian motors in rocking ratchet are investigated via solving Langevin equation. By means of velocity, diffusion coefficient, and their ratio (Peclet number), different features from a single particle have been found. In the regime of low-to-moderate D, the average velocity of elastically coupled Brownian motors is larger than that of a single Brownian particles; the Peclet number of elastically coupled Brownian motors is peaked functions of intensity of noise D but the Peclet number of a single Brownian motor decreases monotonously with the increase of a single Brownian motor. The results exhibit an interesting cooperative behavior between coupled particles subjected to a rocking force, which can generate directed transport with low randomness or high transport coherence in symmetrical periodic potential.  相似文献

A series of experiments on concentrated dispersions of hard colloidal spheres is discussed. The observed phase behavior is analogous to that of simple atomic systems: colloidal fluid, crystal and glass phases are found. The structure of the crystals, revealed by light diffraction, is a strongly faulted stacking of hexagonally-packed layers of particles. Dynamic light scattering confirms that the concentration of the metastable fluid phase for which long-ranged particle diffusion ceases coincides with the concentration where the glass transition is observed macroscopically. In studies of a binary mixture of colloidal spheres with a size ratio 0.61 eutectics, glass formation and the AB13 type alloy structure have been identified.  相似文献

Recently we presented a new technique for numerical simulations of colloidal hard-sphere systems and showed its high efficiency. Here, we extend our calculations to the treatment of both 2- and 3-dimensional monodisperse and 3-dimensional polydisperse systems (with sampled finite Gaussian size distribution of particle radii), focusing on equilibrium pair distribution functions and structure factors as well as volume fractions of random close packing (RCP). The latter were determined using in principle the same technique as Woodcock or Stillinger had used. Results for the monodisperse 3-dimensional system show very good agreement compared to both pair distribution and structure factor predicted by the Percus-Yevick approximation for the fluid state (volume fractions up to 0.50). We were not able to find crystalline 3d systems at volume fractions 0.50–0.58 as shown by former simulations of Reeet al. or experiments of Pusey and van Megen, due to the fact that we used random start configurations and no constraints of particle positions as in the cell model of Hoover and Ree, and effects of the overall entropy of the system, responsible for the melting and freezing phase transitions, are neglected in our calculations. Nevertheless, we obtained reasonable results concerning concentration-dependent long-time selfdiffusion coefficients (as shown before) and equilibrium structure of samples in the fluid state, and the determination of the volume fraction of random close packing (RCP, glassy state). As expected, polydispersity increases the respective volume fraction of RCP due to the decrease in free volume by the fraction of the smaller spheres which fill gaps between the larger particles.  相似文献

Summary Equilibrium sedimentation profiles of concentrated suspensions of charged optically anisotropic colloids are accurately determined by performing depolarized light scattering measurements. From the data we derive the osmotic pressure πvs. the particle volume fraction Φ. The π(Φ) values obtained with strongly screened colloids are in excellent agreement with the predicted hard-sphere equation of state. The data suggest that, besides gravitation, there is an additional force acting on the particles, probably due to the build-up of an electrostatic sedimentation potential. We study the transport properties of particles draining from a silo using imaging and direct particle tracking. The particle displacements show a universal transition from superdiffusion to normal diffusion, as a function of the distance fallen, independent of the flow speed. In the superdiffusive (but sub-ballistic) regime, which occurs before a particle falls through its diameter, the displacements have fat-tailed and anisotropic distributions. In the diffusive regime, we observe very slow cage breaking and Péclet numbers of order 100, contrary to the only previous microscopic model (based on diffusing voids). Overall, our experiments show that diffusion and mixing are dominated by geometry, consistent with long-lasting contacts but not thermal collisions, as in normal fluids.  相似文献

We determine the phase diagram of a binary mixture of small and large hard spheres with a size ratio of 0.3 using free-energy calculations in Monte Carlo simulations. We find a stable binary fluid phase, a pure face-centered-cubic (fcc) crystal phase of the small spheres, and binary crystal structures with LS and LS(6) stoichiometries. Surprisingly, we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally the stability of a novel interstitial solid solution in binary hard-sphere mixtures, which is constructed by filling the octahedral holes of an fcc crystal of large spheres with small spheres. We find that the fraction of octahedral holes filled with a small sphere can be completely tuned from 0 to 1. Additionally, we study the hopping of the small spheres between neighboring octahedral holes, and interestingly, we find that the diffusion increases upon increasing the density of small spheres.  相似文献

The recirculation flow induced by the rising motion of a bubble stream in a viscous fluid within an open-top rectangular enclosure is studied. The three-dimensional volume averaged conservation equations are solved by a control-volume method using a hybrid finite differencing scheme to describe the liquid phase hydrodynamics. The momentum exhange between the bubbles and the liquid phase is modeled with a source term equals to the volumetric buoyancy force acting on the gas in the bubble stream. The volumetric buoyancy force accounts for in line interactions between bubbles through the average gas volume fraction in the gas liquid column which depends on the size and the rising velocity of bubbles. The fluid flow within an open-top rectangular enclosure is further investigated by particle image velocimetry for a bubble stream rising in a water-glycerol solution. The measured fluid velocities in a vertical plane are compared with the predictions of the numerical model over a wide range of fluid viscosity (43 mPa s-800 mPa s) and gas flow rates. Finally, the recirculation flows resulting from the interaction of two neighbouring vertical bubble streams are studied. New optical measurements of light scattering in the heterophase structure produced by the coexistence of α and β phases in quartz around 573°C, with simultaneous observations by optical microscopy, are presented. The heterophase structure variations are described in a heating and cooling temperature cycle with the two phases always remaining in the crystal.Nucleations of one phase in the other are observed, and the associated effects on right angle and small angle scatterings are presented. Birefringence in the plane perpendicular to the optical axis was measured as a function of temperature and position in the crystal, showing clearly the existence of induced stresses in the heterophase state.  相似文献

Cellular structures, as the rolls generated by Rayleigh-Bénard instability, have always been an important topic in nonlinear science. The diffusion of a passive scalar in a given steady cellular flow becomes an interesting question in the limit of a large Péclet number, often realistic. The main result there is that the effective diffusion is somewhere in between the molecular diffusion and the "turbulent" diffusion. A new added twist to this is the reaction-diffusion case, where the front speed is the laminar propagation velocity (without flow) times the Péclet number to the power 1/4. I refine this last result and give the behavior of the prefactor in the Zel'dovich limit of a narrow reaction zone.  相似文献

 采用二级轻气炮加载手段,在5~79.1 GPa冲击压力范围内,利用加窗VISAR技术对氟化锂(LiF)单晶样品进行了研究,得到了不同冲击压力下的纵波声速、体积声速以及卸载路径。实验结果显示:单晶LiF沿冲击绝热线的Lagrange纵波声速随粒子速度呈线性变化;在5~79.1 GPa冲击压力下,单晶LiF并未发生熔化及其它相变;卸载路径及速度剖面弹塑性明显。  相似文献

This work presents a comparison study of different numerical methods to solve Black-Scholes-type partial differential equations (PDE) in the convection-dominated case, i.e., for European options, if the ratio of the risk-free interest rate and the squared volatility-known in fluid dynamics as Péclet number is high. For Asian options, additional similar problems arise when the "spatial" variable, the stock price, is close to zero.Here we focus on three methods: the exponentially fitted scheme, a modification of Wang's finite volume method specially designed for the Black-Scholes equation, and the Kurganov-Tadmor scheme for a general convection-diffusion equation, that is applied for the first time to option pricing problems. Special emphasis is put on the Kurganov-Tadmor because its flexibility allows the simulation of a great variety of types of options and it exhibits quadratic convergence. For the reduction technique proposed by Wilmott, a put-call parity is presented based on the similarity reduction and the put-call parity expression for Asian options. Finally, we present experiments and comparisons with different (non)linear Black-Scholes PDEs.  相似文献

We simulate transport of a solute through three-dimensional images of different rock samples, with resolutions of a few microns, representing geological media of increasing pore-scale complexity: a sandpack, a Berea sandstone, and a Portland limestone. We predict the propagators (concentration as a function of distance) measured on similar cores in nuclear magnetic resonance experiments and the dispersion coefficient as a function of Péclet number and time. The behavior is explained using continuous time random walks with a truncated power-law distribution of travel times: transport is qualitatively different for the complex limestone compared to the sandstone or sandpack, with long tailing, an almost immobile peak concentration, and a very slow approach to asymptotic dispersion.  相似文献

The interaction of liquid drops and heated surfaces is of great importance in many applications. This paper describes a numerical method, based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), for simulating n-heptane drop impact on a heated surface. The SPH method uses numerical Lagrangian particles, which obey the laws of fluid dynamics, to describe the fluid flows. By incorporating the Peng–Robinson equation of state, the present SPH method can directly simulate both the liquid and vapor phases and the phase change process between them. The numerical method was validated by two experiments on drop impact on heated surfaces at low impact velocities. The numerical method was then used to predict drop-wall interactions at various temperatures and velocities. The model was able to predict the different outcomes, such as rebound, spread, splash, breakup, and the Leidenfrost phenomenon, consistent with the physical understanding.  相似文献

Cytoplasmic streaming circulates the contents of large eukaryotic cells, often with complex flow geometries. A largely unanswered question is the significance of these flows for molecular transport and mixing. Motivated by "rotational streaming" in Characean algae, we solve the advection-diffusion dynamics of flow in a cylinder with bidirectional helical forcing at the wall. A circulatory flow transverse to the cylinder's long axis, akin to Dean vortices at finite Reynolds numbers, arises from the chiral geometry. Strongly enhanced lateral transport and longitudinal homogenization occur if the transverse Péclet number is sufficiently large, with scaling laws arising from boundary layers.  相似文献

A diagnostics method was presented that uses emission and scattering techniques to simultaneously determine the distributions of soot particle diameter and number density in hydrocarbon flames. Two manta G-504 C cameras were utilized for the scattering measurement, with consideration of the attenuation effect in the flames according to corresponding absorption coefficients. Distributions of soot particle diameter and number density were simultaneously determined using the measured scattering coefficients and absorption coefficients under multiple wavelengths already measured with a SOC701 V hyper-spectral imaging device, according to the Mie scattering theory. A flame was produced using an axisymmetric laminar diffusion flame burner with 194 mL/min ethylene and 284 L/min air, and distributions of particle diameter and number density for the flame were presented. Consequently, the distributions of soot volume fraction were calculated using these two parameters as well, which were in good agreement with the results calculated according to the Rayleigh approximation,demonstrating that the proposed diagnostic method is capable of simultaneous determination of the distributions of soot particle diameter and number density.  相似文献

Energy filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM) has been used to evaluate particle size distributions of different phases in the creep resistant 9% chromium steel P92, aged at 600 or 650°C for up to 26,000 h. Precipitates of type VN, M23C6 and Laves phase were visualised by forming so-called jump ratio images of the elements vanadium, chromium and tungsten. Digital image analysis was used to measure the size of the precipitates at different ageing times. As a complement to EFTEM, atom probe field ion microscopy (APFIM) has been used to monitor the composition of the ferritic matrix. This indirectly gives information about precipitated volume fraction of different phases. In the case of VN precipitates the volume fraction was also determined from EFTEM images and the result was in good agreement with the data obtained with APFIM. The high-temperature stability of the secondary phases present in steel P92 and their relation to creep properties are discussed. To further study the applicability of EFTEM, steel P122 (with a composition similar to steel P92, but with an addition of Cu) was investigated and a Cu-rich phase was found.  相似文献

冷却速率对结晶过程具有重要的影响. 本文采用温敏poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) 胶体晶体体系实时观察了冷却速率对结晶晶粒尺寸的影响. 通过高倍透射明场观察和Bragg衍射观察研究连续冷却下的晶粒形核和生长实时演化过程, 发现随着冷却速率的增加, PNIPAM胶体晶体晶粒尺寸不断减少. 晶粒尺寸与冷却速率符合幂指数关系, 与金属体系具有相似的演化规律.  相似文献
