Using a reductive perturbation technique (RPT), the Korteweg‐de Vries (KdV) equation for nonlinear electrostatic waves in multi‐ion plasmas is derived with appropriate boundary conditions. Furthermore, compressive and rarefactive cnoidal wave and soliton solutions are discussed. In our model, the multi‐ion plasma consists of light dynamic warm ions, heavy cold ions, and inertialess electrons, which follows the Maxwell‐Boltzmann distribution. It is observed that in such an unmagnetized multi‐ion plasma, two characteristic electrostatic waves i.e., slow ion‐acoustic (SIA) waves and fast ion‐acoustic (FIA) waves, can propagate. The results are discussed by considering two types of multi‐ion plasmas i.e., H+–O+–e plasma and H?–O+–e plasma that exist in space plasmas. It is found that for H+–O+–e plasma, the SIA cnoidal wave and soliton form both positive (compressive) and negative (rarefactive) potential pulses, which depend on the temperature and density of the light and warm ions. However, only electrostatic positive potential structures are obtained for FIA cnoidal wave and soliton in H+–O+–e plasma. In the case of H?–O+–e plasma, the SIA cnoidal wave and soliton form only compressive structures, while the FIA cnoidal wave and soliton compose rarefactive structures. The effects of light ions' density and temperature on nonlinear potential structures are investigated in detail. The parametric results are also demonstrated, which are applicable to space and laboratory multi‐ion plasma situations.  相似文献

The cnoidal wave solution of the integrable Korteweg-de Vries equation is the most basic of its periodic solutions. Following earlier work where the linear stability of these solutions was established, we prove in this Letter that cnoidal waves are (nonlinearly) orbitally stable with respect to so-called subharmonic perturbations: perturbations that are periodic with period any integer multiple of the cnoidal-wave period. Our method of proof combines the construction of an appropriate Lyapunov function with the seminal results of Grillakis, Shatah and Strauss (1987, 1990) [17] and [18]. The integrability of the Korteweg-de Vries equation is used in that we need the presence of at least one extra conserved quantity in addition to those expected from the Lie point symmetries of the equation.  相似文献

Solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, appearing as rogue waves on a spatially-periodic background envelope, are obtained using the Darboux transformation scheme. Several particular examples are illustrated numerically. These include soliton and breather solutions on a periodic background as well as higher-order structures. The results enrich our knowledge of possible analytic solutions that describe the appearance of rogue waves in a variety of situations. This work is prepared on the occasion of Prof. Helmut Brand's 60th birthday. He has made significant contributions to the science of solitons and his ideas have inspired our research into localised formations in various physical contexts.  相似文献

Based on the temperature dependence of two-wave mixing, temperature effects on the dynamical evolution and stability of rigid screening (RS) bright solitons in a photorefractive dissipative system based on two-wave mixing have been investigated numerically. Our results indicate that the stability of bright RS solitons depends strongly on the crystal temperature. The RS solitons are stable to small temperature perturbations. They will not evolve into stable rigid screening solitons, however, and their intensity and width vary with the propagation distance if the temperature deviation is large enough. The potential applications of the temperature properties of these RS solitons in optical attenuators or repeaters are discussed.  相似文献

Mutual rectification of two electromagnetic waves, one of which is a weak sinusoidal wave and the other of which is a cnoidal wave, is considered. An expression for the constant component of the density of a current arising in a superlattice in the presence of these waves is obtained. The dependence of the constant component of the current density on the amplitude of the cnoidal wave is analyzed. The case where the sinusoidal wave frequency is twice as large as the cnoidal wave frequency is considered in detail.  相似文献

The nonlinear equations of photorefractive surface waves (PR SWs) with diffusion mechanism are established and calculated numerically for both TE mode and TM mode and their coupling for the first time. The characteristics of TE mode and TM mode are analyzed, such as propagation constants, spatial distribution, penetration depths etc. For relative larger propagation constant, most of the surface wave energy is concentrated on the Ax component of TM mode, and the penetration depth of Ay of TE mode is always larger than that of Ax of TM mode because electro-optical coefficient r13 is always smaller than r33 in general PRC. As a result, the energy of the PR SW is better confined near the surface for TM mode than that for TE mode. When both TE and TM modes PR SWs are present, they will be coupled drastically and the Ax component of TM mode and Ay component of TE mode resonate in the volume of PR medium. As a result, the PR SWs cannot remain decay, and the light energy can not be confined near the surface steadily and the modes are destroyed. The results provide the theoretical instructions and are very significant to generate steady and high density PR SW in practice.  相似文献

We investigate incoherently coupled bright-bright soliton pairs in photorefractive crystals under steady-state condition in both one and two transverse dimensions. The novel numerical scheme according to the Crank-Nicholson method generalized in three dimensions accompanied by the central difference method was used to solve the coupled wave and potential equations in order to find soliton solution and pairs distribution. Simulation of propagation is performed numerically and show that the presence of both components is required for stable propagation. This simulation approach demonstrates beams evolution after decoupling clearly.  相似文献

Algebraic formulas predicting the frequencies and shapes of waves in a reaction-diffusion model of excitable media are presented in the form of four recipes. The formulas themselves are based on a detailed asymptotic analysis (published elsewhere) of the model equations at leading order and first order in the asymptotic parameter. The importance of the first order contribution is stressed throughout, beginning with a discussion of the Fife limit, Fife scaling, and Fife regime. Recipes are given for spiral waves and detailed comparisons are presented between the asymptotic predictions and the solutions of the full reaction-diffusion equations. Recipes for twisted scroll waves with straight filaments are given and again comparisons are shown. The connection between the asymptotic results and filament dynamics is discussed, and one of the previously unknown coefficients in the theory of filament dynamics is evaluated in terms of its asymptotic expansion. A new exactly solvable (1+1)-dimensional complex nonlinear wave equation exhibiting rich analytic properties has been introduced. A rogue wave (RW), localized in space–time like Peregrine RW solution, though richer due to the presence of free parameters is discovered. This freedom allows to regulate amplitude and width of the RW as needed. The proposed equation allows also an intriguing topology changing accelerated dark soliton solution in spite of constant coefficients in the equation.  相似文献

We consider a model in which an electric field induces quantum nucleation of kink-antikink pairs in a pinned charge or spin density wave. Pair nucleation events, prevented by Coulomb blockade below a pair creation threshold, become correlated in time above threshold. The model provides a natural explanation for the observed (i) small density wave polarization below threshold in NbSe (3), (ii) narrow band noise, (iii) coherent oscillations, and (iv) mode-locking at high drift frequencies.  相似文献

Resonant interaction of a soliton (Josephson fluxon) with its self-generated Josephson plasma waves is studied experimentally, numerically, and analytically. An externally applied magnetic field H forms a cos-like potential relief for the soliton in the annular junction. Soliton motion under the influence of the bias current leads to an emission of plasma waves, which gives rise to a resonance at a certain soliton velocity. This resonance on the current–voltage characteristics shows a clear backbending accompanied by a negative differential resistance. Our analysis quantitatively explains the observed effect.  相似文献

This paper presents calculations for an idea in photorefractive spatial solitons, namely, a dissipative holographic soliton and a two-photon-Hamiltonian spatial soliton in one dimension form in an unbiased series photorefractive crystal circuit consisting of a single-photon photorefractive crystals and a two-photon one of which at least one must be photovoltaic. The two solitons are known collectively as a separate Holographic–Hamiltonian spatial soliton pair and there are two types: dark–dark and bright–dark if only one crystal of circuit is photovoltaic. The results show that the two-photon-Hamiltonian soliton in a soliton pair can affect the holographic one by light-induced current and the holographic soliton cannot affect the two-photon-Hamiltonian one.  相似文献

The bifurcation of wave-like spatio-temporal structures due to a hard-mode instability at non-zero wave number is investigated for a simple class of driven systems in one space dimension. We find generically a bifurcation of two branches of waves, travelling waves and standing waves, characterized by nontrivial subgroups of the symmetry group of the system. If both branches are supercritical, the wave with the larger amplitude is found to be stable. In all other cases, both waves are unstable for small amplitudes. At the common boundary of the stability regions of the two wave types in parameter space we find a bifurcation of a branch of modulated waves involving two independent frequencies, connecting the branches of travelling waves and standing waves.Work supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation  相似文献

The coupling effect and stability property of symmetric bright holographic soliton pairs have been investigated numerically. Results show that when any one of the two solitary beams from a pair is perturbed in amplitude or width, both beams will be affected by such a perturbation via the coupling effect between the beams, thus resulting in both beams propagating in the medium without a constant shape; however, these two solitary beams are still stable against small perturbations. When both solitary beams from a pair are perturbed simultaneously in amplitude, for some given absolute values of the perturbations, the two beams are stable against these perturbations if both beams are perturbed with the same sign, whereas are unstable with the different signs. When the two beams are simultaneously perturbed in width, both beams exhibit their stability property similar to that when only one beam is perturbed no matter whether both perturbations have the same or different signs.  相似文献

由于其在通信领域潜在的应用前景, 非局域空间孤子一直是研究热点. 但空间非局域暗孤子由于其边界的特殊性, 对其特别是稳定性方面研究甚少. 提出了非局域暗孤子稳定性分析理论, 并对热非线性体介质中1+1维基态和二阶暗孤子的稳定性进行了数值分析和研究, 得到了稳定性图. 从稳定性分析图可知: 在热非线性体介质中, 1+1维基态暗孤子在其存在区域总是稳定的, 而1+1维二阶暗孤子是震荡不稳定的, 其不稳定区域的宽度与传播常数以及介质的非局域程度有关. 为了验证非局域暗孤子稳定性分析理论的正确性, 对加噪声初始输入的传输进行数值模拟得到了传输图, 传输图表明稳定性分析理论的正确性. 关键词: 非局域 稳定性 暗孤子  相似文献

We demonstrate the existence of complex solitary wave and periodic solutions of theKorteweg-de Vries (KdV) and modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations. The solutions ofthe KdV (mKdV) equation appear in complex-conjugate pairs and are even (odd) under thesimultaneous actions of parity (??) and time-reversal (??) operations. The corresponding localized solitons arehydrodynamic analogs of Bloch soliton in magnetic system, with asymptotically vanishingintensity. The ????-odd complex soliton solution is shown to beiso-spectrally connected to the fundamental sech2 solution through supersymmetry. Physically, thesecomplex solutions are analogous to the experimentally observed grey solitons of non-liner Schödinger equation, governing the dynamics of shallow waterwaves and hence may also find physical verification.  相似文献

The effect of mutual rectification of two electromagnetic waves in a graphene superlattice is studied for a cnoidal wave polarized along the superlattice axis and a sinusoidal wave polarized along the orthogonal direction. An expression for the density of the direct current generated by mixing of these waves is obtained. The direct current is studied as a function of the cnoidal wave amplitude. The possibility of varying both the value and the direction of the direct current with varying the cnoidal wave amplitude is shown.  相似文献

A theory explaining the effects of second harmonic generation and rectification of space-charge waves (SCWs) in both space and time in photorefractive crystals and semi-insulating semiconductors is formulated for the first time. The theory predicts two mechanisms of SCW second harmonic excitation. An experimental technique is proposed for second harmonic detection, and the formulas required for interpreting the experimental results are derived. It is found that the effect of complete rectification of SCWs may lead to a change in the current passing through the sample by tens of percent. The results of calculations are in qualitative agreement with preliminary experimental results.  相似文献
