We have observed multiphoton ionization of the 5s core electron from a 5snd radial Rydberg wave packet of Sr atoms using a short optical pulse. When the outer nd electron is at its outer turning point the inner 5s electron is removed from the atom, and the outer electron is left in a Sr+ Rydberg state, but when the outer electron is at the inner turning point this does not occur. Analysis of the final Sr+ Rydberg states shows that the two electrons interact as the inner electron leaves, so that the outer electron is not simply projected onto the Sr+ Rydberg states.  相似文献

A multizone excitation of a double Λ-system with three lower and two excited states (the so-called M-atom) by an optical radiation field is presented. It is shown that the Raman excitation of such a system can be used to implement an effective atomic beam splitter in one of the lower states. The advantage of the scheme under consideration is that the formation of a space lattice of the atomic density takes place when the atomic system interacts only with the optical radiation field and does not require any additional efforts to select the internal states in which such spatial structures are formed.  相似文献

The effect of a laser field on the cross section of photoionization of an atom by probe radiation in the region of closely lying autoionizing resonances is studied theoretically. The cross sections in the region of the overlapping autoionizing Rydberg states 5p 5(2 P 1/2)6d′ J = 1 and 5p 5(2 P 1/2)8s′ J = 1 resonantly coupled with the discrete state 5p 5(2 P 3/2)7p[1/2]1 in the xenon atom are calculated. The behavior of the shape and position of resonances in relation to the frequency and intensity of laser radiation is studied.  相似文献

An analysis is presented of the Coulomb excitation of low-lying nuclear levels by the electrons produced by strong-field ionization of atoms. It is shown that the resulting short-lived radioactivity can be as high as on the order of 103 Ci for certain isotopes excited by using modern laser systems. Relativistic effects are demonstrated that substantially increase radioactivity as compared to that predicted by nonrelativistic theory results.  相似文献

We study the zitterbewegung of electronic wave packets in III-V zinc-blende semiconductor quantum wells due to spin-orbit coupling. Our results suggest a direct experimental proof of this fundamental effect, confirming a long-standing theoretical prediction. For electron motion in a harmonic quantum wire, we numerically and analytically find a resonance condition maximizing the zitterbewegung.  相似文献

We describe the principles of holographic storage and reconstruction of ultrashort light pulses using spectrally nonselective media. This can be achieved by the application of a 3-D recording medium and by the holography of waves produced by spatial spectral decomposition of light pulses. We also describe various transformations of optical temporal signals based on holographic spectral filtering and nonlinear interaction of spectral decomposition waves.  相似文献

It was shown recently that driving an optically excited quantum well with a terahertz (THz) frequency electric field can lead to higher-harmonic generation in the THz regime: the THz analog of the dynamic Franz-Keldysh effect. We propose a new double-pulse excitation method that not only increases the efficiency of the harmonic generation but is also able to control somewhat the dominant upshifted harmonic of the THz radiation by means of selective excitation of spatially chosen electron-hole relative motion wave packets.  相似文献

With a superposition of a nanosecond infrared-laser pulse and its second harmonic, the threshold of plasma formation in gasses as well as the energy transfer efficiency from the laser field to the plasma can be significantly improved in comparison to purely monochromatic radiation. We present experimental results in air at pressures between 0.4 and 3 bar; in this pressure range, the threshold energy for the superposition is reduced by ≈30% as compared to that of pure infrared radiation, while the energy transfer slope efficiency is equal to the IR efficiency at high pressures and somewhat less at lower pressures. Possible mechanisms responsible for this effect are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss some aspects of the theory of wave packets. We consider a popular noncovariant Gaussian model used in various applications and show that it predicts too slow a longitudinal dispersion rate for relativistic particles. We revise this approach by considering a covariant model of Gaussian wave packets, and examine our results by inspecting a wave packet of arbitrary form. A general formula for the time dependence of the dispersion of a wave packet of arbitrary form is found. Finally, we give a transparent interpretation of the disappearance of the wave function over time due to the dispersion—a feature often considered undesirable, but which is unavoidable for wave packets. We find, starting from simple examples, proceeding with their generalizations and finally by considering the continuity equation, that the integral over time of both the flux and probability densities are asymptotically proportional to the factor 1/|x|2 in the rest frame of the wave packet, just as in the case of an ensemble of classical particles.  相似文献

A method for generating two-photon wave packets (biphotons) with a small width of the spatial intensity correlation function (correlation radius) has been considered. We propose to prepare a two-photon wave packet inhomogeneously broadened in the angle by means of spontaneous parametric down-conversion in an inhomogeneous crystal. Such biphotons are not diffraction limited; i.e., their correlation radius is much larger than the inverse width of the spatial spectrum. However, the correlation radius of such a biphoton decreases as the biphoton propagates in free space, and transverse compression occurs at a certain distance from the crystal; i.e., the biphoton becomes diffraction limited.  相似文献

We demonstrate a protocol to create localized wave packets in very-high-n Rydberg states which travel in nearly circular orbits around the nucleus. Although these wave packets slowly dephase and eventually lose their localization, their motion can be monitored over several orbital periods. These wave packets represent the closest analog yet achieved to the original Bohr model of the hydrogen atom, i.e., an electron in a circular classical orbit around the nucleus. The possible extension of the approach to create "planetary atoms" in highly correlated stable multiply excited states is discussed.  相似文献
